I've been wanting to get my hands on a pair of these palazzo pants all Spring season long, so I figured it was about time I did.

These pants are so incredibly chic. Their over sized appearance gives them a dramatic, boyish feel, but when played up in the right proportions, can show off a feminine silhouette. I knew immediately I wanted these pants, but knowing my proportions, I kept in mind making a pair that would work for my size and height, and not overpower me too much. I'm excited to experiment with these pants this season. Though a fitted top seems to keep the proportions in check, I think a blazer or cropped tee could work too.

With this DIY, I choose a more lightweight fabric because it gets freakin' hot around here during Summer. They aren't as translucent as they seem in these photos, they're pretty opaque, but I liked highlighting just how light they feel and are.

Follow to DIY. You'll Need- Enough material to make some pants, I used about two yards, measuring tape, elastic waistband big enough to go over your hips when stretched, pins, sewing machine, and if possible some old loose pants you could use as a pattern. First, fold your fabric in half. Now fold your pants in half length wise and pin the pattern into place against the fold of the fabric, keep in mind, if you want these to be high waisted, to make sure your pattern allows for that. Cut out. Repeat again, fold fabric, and along fold, pin down the pattern but this time in the opposite way in which you had it folded the first time. This will give you a front and back piece. Pin and sew the pieces together. Sew down a hem at the top where the waist is with enough clearance to run the elastic through, remember to leave a hole in which you can pull the elastic through to create a waist. Just like here. Pull the elastic through and sew together. Trim off any excess and hem your pant legs. There ya go, some super sassy Palazzo pants.

I love rock-n-roll, I really, really do. I mean who doesn't? And come Summer time, my husband and I will have Jimi, The Doors, Stevie Ray, and others on freakin' repeat. It's like our unofficial Summer tradition. Lay out, hydrate, listen to some tunes. Occasionally, on the weekends we'll make our way out to a bar/restaurant to listen to some music and relax, so laid back attire like this, is called for.

If you read my blog regularly you know I like heels, I'm kinda short y'all. So, even when I'm hanging out, you betcha I have some sort of heel on. I like to think of it as, mini toning and sculpting sessions for my gams, hah..

I went with a nude heel to keep it toned down and casual, and to give my legs an extra bit of length (they need it). Then I opted for an easy statement necklace just to keep it fun. Plus, it's a great way to work more glamorous accessories into a daytime outfit. Don't you hate when a gorgeous piece of gem just sits there, waiting for that "night out"? I say wear the darn thing! When you downplay your whole outfit, a blingy piece of jewelry helps class it up a bit. Hope you have a great rest of your holiday weekend friends, and give your old tee a new look.

I have Internet now!! Hallelujah! So excited to be back at it again, I've been designing/brainstorming like crazy, and now I can share. It's weird how odd you feel after not having technology in your life for awhile, I mean we still we had our smart phones, but I can only strain my eyes for so long. I'm just so happy to be back.

I've been obsessing over the draped silhouette lately, especially flowy sleeves. I like the loose, and careless appeal it has, but at the same time, done just right, seems so chic and soft.

Choosing the right draped pieces can really set off your figure too, just think of it as a game of proportion. I choose to pair my loose top with high waisted shorts to accent my figure. If you're body type is curvier, do the same, don't let your body be overwhelmed by the drape, go with a more fitted pant to set off the flow of a blouse. Tops like these are perfect for this Summer heat; they're easy, comfortable and yet still subtly sexy. Give your hand a go at this easy DIY.

You'll Need: at least a yard or more of material, I prefer anything that's not knit, remember the heavier the material, the less light it's going to feel, scissors, sewing machine, pins, measuring tape.

First, determine your measurements. You'll want to measure from shoulder to shoulder, I then gave myself an additional 6 1/2 inches on each side for the drape. I wound up with a piece of material that was exactly 30 inches wide and 30inches long, keep in mind you are going to fold the material in half.

I then measured in from each side 6 1/2 inches to center mark the width of my shoulders, which is about 17 inches, onto the fabric. I placed a pin at these two marks. Carefully flip the material inside out and sew it close from the end of each side, to the pin marks. Cut the head opening out if need be, you may not have to do this if you didn't start at the fold. Ta-daa, you now have neck opening. It should look like a poncho! Now, measure from your armpit to your shoulder. This will give you an idea of how large to make the arm openings. You clearly want them lose, so generously add 2-3 inches extra. Line this measurement up with where you left the neck openings at on both sides. So say your measurement from shoulder to armpit was 10inches, but you want it to be 13 inches. Just take the tape measure and line it from opening of the neck on either side, and pull it down to 13in and pin. Sew from that point down to the bottom of your blouse, now you have a sleeve opening! You're done!! Just sew up the hems and you're good to go. Any questions, please let me know!

XO

(P.S it was SUPER windy the day we took photos, sooo that's why it seems kinda off the shoulder in some pics, sorry!)

Ahh! So it's been kinda crazy around here, sorry for the lack of posts. We just moved into our new home, and needless to say, it's busy.

We had just recently bought a new home, did some major DIY remodel work, and moved in; in one month. So still trying to figure out where stuff goes, and if construction dust will ever, ever........ever go away. But I'm back!

Last month, I briefly touched on some gorgeous sheer stuff I wanted to try and incorporate into my wardrobe. Well, I did it. And this DIY is seriously easy, just follow the same steps here, and there ya go. Only thing that changes is the material, I used some black organza that was on sale. (high five!)

This skirt is perfect to take from 8-5, just switch up your tops to give it a different feel. I opted for this thin cotton button down to keep me comfortable.

So I'm about half way through my DIY inspo board for the month with this DIY over sized leopard clutch. I knew I needed one, perfect to take from day to night, and big enough to fit, well, everything. Hah. Oh and these shoes, you know I'm all about the see-through-trend, and when I saw these for $30 I ordered them as soon as I could. Just the right amount of translucence to give ya a little sexy edge, but chill enough to go with just about anything.

Follow how to make the clutch here- only difference is I used a 35in wide and 8 in high piece of material, and folded it in half to create the purse shape. I also used a 17in purse zipper to get the large size I wanted.

Enjoy!

Pretty obvious I'm all up on this trend, ha. I had some do-it-yourself brainstorming, and came up with a way I could do-it-better. Here's a quick little DIY to get your week started, or something to plan on doing for the weekend.

All you'll need: This time, scratch the krylon spray paint, and go with Rustoleum Spray Paint. You can't believe how much of a difference this brand of paint makes. It's actually more metallic like and stands up to wear and tear a whole lot more. You'll also need some chain, in two different sizes, jump rings, clasps (lobster clasps would be a whole lot easier) and some old heeled sandals. Oh, and using jewelry crimps helps too.

Spray your shoes, let them dry for a day. Measure your ankle and separate the chains accordingly. I was able to separate my first thicker chain in half using the pliers. Then I used jump rings to attach the closures by opening and closing the rings. The smaller chain I was able to separate in half and had enough to wrap around my ankles a few times to drape it a bit over my ankle. So it all depends on the size of your ankles, and length of the chain. I would recommend anything over 2 feet at least per chain to make the length worth while.

And there ya go, some cute, ultra fashionable strappy sandals with a little bit of flair. Using the anklets makes these shorter, originally-not-so-cool sandals pretty freaking sweet.

With hints of metal everywhere this season, save your wallet some grief from keepin' up with the trends, with a quick do-it-yourself project. This top is simple enough for day wear but chic enough for a night time prowl.

You'll Need: Depending on size, at least a yard of metallic material, measuring tape, pins, pattern (if needed like a simple square top/tank), scissors and sewing machine.

I didn't really use the pattern myself, only just to get an idea for size, but we'll go through it like you are. 1.Take a top you have that's more boxy like, nothing fancy. This can work with a more tank like top, it's actually a bit easier that way.

2. Lay your pattern out and fold in half, fold your material in half, shiny side up, and place the folded pattern against the fold of the material, pin and cut along the shirt. The boxier the better, we aren't working with zips people so give yourself some wiggle room. 3. When you cut, ta daa it opens up into a big square, don't worry about cutting out sleeve shapes or anything. Now do this again but fold the shirt in the opposite way, pin, and cut, but this time do a little half moon action with the cut at the top for a neck opening, right at the corner of the fold.

4. So now you have two big pieces of square material, but one has a neck opening. Cool, perfect. And remember it's gonna be kinda big, that's how we're gonna get it on and off. Pin these two pieces together at the neck. Now measure from your neck to about mid way to your shoulder, mine was about 2 1/2 inches. Follow this measurement on the material and pin from the neck opening out to that number you got. Bam, you have a sleeve area. Repeat on other side. 5. Measure from your shoulder to your arm pit. Mine was like 10inches, but I pinned to about 11 just to be safe. Place your tape at the end of the shoulder line you pinned, pull it down to that number you just got, and pin there. That's where we aren't gonna sew, so your arms can pop out! 6. Whoohoo. Just like we did the half moon kind cut for the neck, do the same from the end of the shoulder pin, down to the pin for the arm opening. Do this to both sides. You just made a tank top. Now pin and sew up your sides and hem up the arm openings and neck. If need be you can take in the sides if the shirt came out too big, I had to a little but that's cool, bigger is better than too small.

A hot little trendy item, for a few minutes and next to nothing, enjoy!

Any questions, just holla.

Thrift store shopping can be incredibly fun and rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming and frustrating. Sometimes you can find yourself searching rack after rack, for nothing. A big key I've found to making it work are two simple things: be picky and have an open mind. I know, seems like they kinda cancel each other out, but really you'd be surprised out how these two filters really help out the sifting process. There will be times when you thrift shop and find nothing, leaving empty handed is ok, trust me.

There will be other times though, when ya see something, and it's all sorts of awesome, but maybe it's too long, too big, or could use a face lift. Now, these types of projects are for the brave, but the outcomes can be amazing! This is where an open mind is really important. This skirt was probably like a gazillion sizes too big, and way too long. Some nips and tucks later and I think it may be a perfect everyday summer skirt. So keep an open mind when you're out thrifting. Sometimes something ugly can turn into something incredible.

You'll Need: Old long printed skirt, pins, elastic, measuring tape, and scissors. Measure out the skirt to the length you'd want. I wanted to bring the bottom of the skirt to my waist, so that required me to actually re make the waist using elastic like I did here. If you're lucky and like the print all over your skirt, then really cutting and hemming is all ya need. I'm happy with the results and for a dollar at Goodwill it's cheaper than material.

Enjoy xo!

Short suits. Life seriously doesn't get much better than that, it's like all the power of a suit without feeling too much like a dude, or sweating like one. It cute as heck, and with the hot hot Summer for us just around the corner, what a great way to class up a regular ol' outfit for some cocktails. I really like this idea and I like that it works just as well for a skirt. It looks so effortless, but really put together. I saw this outfit (below) in Vogue last month and I wanted it. Something about the solid cherry red, and the softness of the layers all together jumped out at me. I got to digging and found a budget friendly way to put something like it together.

Goodwill, holla.

Most ladies have a cute red top of some kind, I didn't so I went to Goodwill picked up a red blazer and a soft red tee for $2. Gotta love half off Saturdays. The skirt is from F21 $14. Done. You'd be surprised at the amount of amazing blazers you can find at thrift stores, and for the price you save it is worth every penny to get a blazer tailored if need be. Just saying.

Head to toe in a solid color works for pretty much any body type. It comes off really bold, but at the same time looks extremely polished. It's fun when you can vary the shades a bit too. When you dress in solid colors like this, it sorta does what black does. It leans your lines and thins you out. Take a plunge this weekend and wear a short suit, or try your hand at a solid color outfit, I promise it won't disappoint.

<3 xo

Crop tops, the sexiest thing I've seen in awhile when it comes to trends. It's one of those styles that's just so effortlessly chic, and translates well into so many outfits. But, never, in any circumstance should you rock the crop with a low rise bottom, Ever. I don't care how bangin' your body is. Unless you are at the beach and covering up with a crop and some shorty shorts, then by all means, but to go out, even to the quickstop. No thanks. But..the crop top can be rocked by anyone, really it can. The two tricks are: 1. Go for a crop with sleeves if you aren't crazy about your arm/back area. 2. Always, and I mean always, aim for a higher waist line. High waisted shorts, skirts, and jeans make this top look incredible, and comfortable. Add a tuxedo style blazer for a night out, to give you a bit more coverage and chic if you want it. Either way you will look amazing!

I decided to try my hand at making two pieces today. I had this material lying around and I knew I wanted it for both a top and bottom, but I didn't necessarily want to make a dress. So ta-daa!

These DIYs are super easy, and when you use the same color on top and bottom, I think it really makes you look long and lean. oh and every gal needs that essential pencil skirt in her wardrobe. It's great having a super tailored piece in your closet that you can dress up and down, and will always go with anything. So I owe it to my ladies to show y'all how to make one!

You'll Need: at the very least a yard in material, more dependant on size, scissors, pins, measuring tape, sewing machine, an old pencil skirt for pattern and a loose top with or without sleeves to make the crop top. (sleeves may be a bit trickier, I'm hoping to have a diy up for that asap) and a zipper for the skirt.

Fold your material in half, fold your pattern in half. Place the pattern on the side with the fold of material, and pin in place. Cut. Fold your material again, and fold your pattern again only this time place the opposite side towards the fold. Basically, you are getting the front and back side of the skirt. Pin and cut. Now you have two pieces of skirt. Remember, material like this polyester tends to not give, so be generous in your cuts, don't cut too, too close to your pattern. Then take your zipper and pin on one edge of the fabric. You may have to fold over a piece of the fabric to avoid sewing the raw edge of the material to the zipper. Pin and sew in place. Now do this again for the other side. Make sure to sew the two pieces all the way down past the zipper, unless you wanna leave that open for a slit in the back. I didn't, I actually ended up keeping my zipper on the side, I liked how it looked, and it worked for how I had cut my pattern out.

Sew bottom and top hems and you're done!

Now for the top there are TONS of diys out there, but this one worked for me and the material I had. I used the left over material and folded it in half. I picked an old, loose tank top I had as a pattern. Since I didn't have a zipper for this part, and the material doesn't give, I had to to use a top that I knew was already very loose and still maintain generosity in my cuts. Pin the top of the shirt straps to the center fold of the fabric. Pin the rest in place, and cut. Now you should have this piece of material with arm and a neck opening you can pull your head through. Sew the sides together and hem all other areas needed, most importantly the bottom. Done, and done! Enjoy, and please let me know if you have any questions

Mesh is having a pretty huge moment right now, and I'm diggin' it. I mean, it's kinda out there, a little on the showey side, but I think in a soft way, it can look pretty sweet. I'm sure you guys spied these ads in magazines, and with all the mesh I was seeing on the SS13 runways, I knew I had to give it a go. Mesh is a great trend to DIY, it's pretty easy to work with and is relatively inexpensive. There are tons of ways you can add mesh into pretty much any project, but I went with a trusty skirt pattern I knew would work with most of my closet. Make sure you have some matching under shorts or skirt to make this look work. Don't wanna be showing too much right?

You'll Need: About a yard or so of mesh, depending on your waist size, some elastic, scissors, pins, needle and thread or a sewing machine.

Follow the steps from here to make the skirt. My material drapes a bit since I wasn't working with a perfect square to begin with, but I think all in all it came out pretty swell. Wear it sporty or class it up a bit. Either way, mesh is a great fashion trend to get hands on with. Enjoy!

Happy Friday friends! I hope you're Friday has been a fun one. I am in the process of trying to finish up the day, and hit the sheets, work tomorrow bright and early. I'm sure you guys have noticed some changes on the ol' blog, and I'm happy to announce that I have been working with some amazing local talent to bring this lovely place a nice face lift. With all the craziness in my life, I needed help with getting this blog on track visually, and I think we nailed it.

It's nice, and incredible to see all the changes that have taken place in the span of a year. It makes me excited to see what the future holds, thanks for sticking around and supporting me, always! You guys rock.

If you've ever been down this way in South Texas, you know it's windy. I'm talking, never leave the house without your spanx on under your dress/skirt kinda windy. A girl can't comfortably walk these streets without some sort of stretchy short protecting her unmentionables. Well, at least she shouldn't. Today was no exception, I opted out of the skirt though and went for stretchy pants and a loose sweater. To me nothing is more classy than simple. Clean, long lines, and balanced proportion always make for a pleasant outfit. Stretchy pants can be tricky though, and totally NOT flattering to your body if they aren't the right structure or material. I always advise clients/friends to opt for a thicker material, similar to riding pants instead of cotton leggings, and preferably ones with nice solid seams. These happen to have some great structural seams across the front of the thigh, giving your leg a super long, lean look, and the thickness of the material doesn't make you feel like your butt is exposed, or about to bust a seam.

My rule on top, if you're tight on the bottom and you aren't headed somewhere that requires you to look like a Kardashian, go for something loose and flowy, but not too long my short peeps! Try and stay above the top of your thigh; just enough to graze it and give you that perfect proportion. The fact that a looser top gives ya a break from sucking it in is just an added bonus hah, at least for me.

Florals everywhere, and I'm smitten. Today felt really Spring-y so I wasn't gonna let the opportunity pass me by to rock these babies. This print is bold, and in your face with a super girly feel. I have to admit, I was hesitant. I'm not very tall 5'4" on a goood day, (as in truly 5'3 and 1/2 ish but I'm all about well rounded numbers). Anyway, yea so I thought that maybe this print wouldn't exactly flatter me, but I grew some and took the plunge and now I want more! Shame on me for every second guessing! You guys know I'm not huge into trends, and I DIY where I can, buuut for the price ($16 clearance rack at Target) I couldn't pass them up. Plus, I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of this print for a long, long time, and I'm cool with that. How do you like to wear your florals?

Happy weekend friends. I know, I know it's coming to an end, but just five more days right? And it's Friday again, whoohoo! Hah, easier said. Well, I figured I'd try a little different approach with my DIY fashion posts. I thought I'd attempt to be a little more real with the whole process and where/how I get my ideas.

Basically, I skim magazines, find what I like, look at the price, realize I know I'll never ever ever ever pay that much, and I think of how I can do it myself. For example, asymmetrical tops are big for Spring, and I want one. I saw a few on here that I love! So I ripped out the page, made notes and got to making. There's actually several things on here, I hope and plan on getting made, but for now we'll start with something pretty basic. That little orange Marciano asymmetrical top on the upper-center of the page.

Here's how.

You'll Need: At least two yards of sheer fabric, or more given your size. I basically doubled it over twice, and then folded it in half again. On the side where the material is folded over I pinned the area where the neck opening would be. Because I wanted the top to be asymmetrical, I made the neck opening closer to one end than to the other in order to leave a lot of sleeve room on one side. I cut the neck out carefully. Then I pinned where the arm openings would be, this will vary depending on how large/small your arms are. Pin one arm opening down, and then pin the other straight across to the other side making sure you leave enough room to get the top on and off, remember this material doesn't stretch so give yourself wiggle room. I turned the material inside out to sew shut the shorter side. I then sewed the other opening with the right side of the material facing up. You'll need to do this so that the material drapes on your arm. I seared the edges with a lighter very, very carefully. to give it a sort of finished hem. Tad-daa that's it. Pretty easy. If ya have any questions, ask me!

XO

Lace is everywhere, and I just can't get enough. I love everything about it, it's soft, feminine, but there's still this hint of va-va-voom. aannnd who doesn't want any of that from time to time?? I had seen a gorgeous skirt earlier this week. skimmin' the mags, with some lace on it, sort of like color blocking but with lace. I liked the idea of draping the lace below the skirt hem, for a hint of skin, but I wanted to use a skirt that I could easily dress up or down. I decided to use an old cotton pencil skirt I had to give me the feel I wanted, and luckily this skirt had a color blocked waist which I think balanced out well, but not necessary of course. Enjoy!

You'll Need: An old pencil skirt, some lace material, pins, needle and thread (I used my sewing machine), and scissors.

I ended up using a lace piece of material that measured about 6 inches wide and about 40 inches long. You won't need all that length but I always like to have a little more just in case. Because my skirt was pretty long to start with, I folded it over three inches from the hem. I then pinned my lace material to the back of the fold, starting at the side seam. After pinning the lace all around, I sewed the lace onto the skirt using an elastic stitch to maintain minimal stretch in my skirt. Cut off any excess lace and you're done! You may need to adjust the length as needed. I did sew the edge of my lace to keep it from fraying over time.

A HUGE part of blogging, designing and really anything you care about for that matter, requires a great amount of change. Ew, I know. Change. It can be quite a chore, but it also can be a savior. I grew up in such a transient lifestyle that I have learned to embrace everything that has come with change, the good and the bad. Not always easy, but definitely worth it. What I do is an expression of who I am, and so just like I'm always changing, adapting, growing; the outlets I use to express myself change along with me. I hope you guys find the updates as exciting as I do. I figured it was just time to do go back to basics, to clear out the excess and focus on simplicity.
It's a mantra we live by, but sometimes I get caught up on some not so simple ideas. I'm trying to stop "looking" so much at other people/things/styles and remember ME. Who I am, what I like, what drives my little ticker.. SOOO, let's do this. Thanks for always sticking around reader friends! You guys rock.

ANYWAY, on to fashion. This necklace is ridiculously easy. For all you fearful DIYers give this one a shot. You got this. This upcoming Spring Season has me drooling over soft layering necklaces like this. Clean lines, delicate, gorgeous.
Enjoy!
MN

You'll Need: An old chain from a necklace, the more delicate the better, but this can work for a thicker chain too. A small piece of straw, I used a coffee stirrer and a silver sharpie. Simply cut your straw to a length you like, color with silver marker and thread the chain through. Ta-daa. Easy. Use a bigger straw for a bigger chain.

I dunno what it is, but I'm feeling extra femme lately. I've been all about lace, bows, neutrals, girlyness. January has something soft about it to me, despite the really dreary weather. Maybe it's that winter glow your cheeks get after being outside for awhile, that rose color that floats to the apples of your cheeks. January is a romantic month to me, I know, strange. Well, all that girlyness led to this. A low back blouse with a stunner bow. I've been seein' a lot of gorgeous bows on gowns, and I thought it would be lovely to try and transition something like that into a top. Fun, femme and casual enough to wear with jeans. I'm happy with the feminine, yet bold look.

ps. I took my pictures inside today, it was wet wet wet all day. Here's how to make it!

You'll Need: an old stretchy blouse-to keep the shape, some sort of material to match for your bow, about a 12x12in square, (pick something with a little stiffness to keep the shape, or just double up on the material like I did). Pins, needle and thread, measuring tape, and scissors.

Start by cutting out your low V back. Keep in mind not to go too low, unless ya like it like that, and not too wide or you risk your shoulders falling all the time. Don't worry about getting this part too perfect on the cut, we'll fix that. Once cut, gently roll the material between your fingers to soften up the rough edges. Now, cut a one inch strip from your bow material all way down the length of it, this will be used to tie your bow together. Take your bow material and if it's a little weak like mine, meaning not stiff, fold it over on itself to give it more thickness. I cut a little here and there to get it to the bow size I wanted, go big or go small, it's up to you. I ended up with about an 8x8inch square once I cut off all the extra. After you get it to the size you like, simply pinch it in the center to form a bow shape. Take that strip you cut and wrap it around the center and knot it the back. Cut off the excess material from the knot. Ta-daa ya have a bow. Now, using your needle and thread sew it on to the back of the shirt. Sew the tops of the bow along the top edge of the v to keep it from flopping down on ya. And there ya go!

Enjoy!

Well Happy Happy Happy New Year friends!! So, I'm back, I know it's kinda been awhile. I didn't mean to leave y'all hanging, I just needed a small vacay from the blogosphere for a few days. Trust me, I missed you all so much, but I just needed time to rest and re-set. I spent my days enjoying my husband, my family, and myself, so it's been nice, but truth be told, I missed writing and getting caught up in my creativity. The break though, has given me a new clear vision, and I'm ready to get started making away! So hello again friends, let's get started!

Red is one of those colors I just can't get enough of, ever. It's sexy, beautiful, bold, and looks good on just about anyone. Truly you can never go wrong with red. I've had this red fringe for awhile, and I figured I needed to do something with it. Recently, while I was pinning away for, ohhh I dunno, 10hrs it seemed, hah, I saw this awesome Sparkle&Fade top with some majorly cute fringe. I wanted it, so I made it. Easy.

You'll Need:
an old top, any color, but I like red. At least a yard of fringe, pins, measuring tape, scissors, and sewing machine or needle and thread.

Take your fringe and pin it from one side of the shirt shoulder to the other, stay close to the inner corner but not on the neck line.Pin it down into a nice sloped V, not too low, unless that's how ya roll. Sew into place with the sewing machine. Double back around with a second layer just about an 1/2 an inch or so above the first fringe, pin and sew in place. Carefully cut out the excess chest material and the collar area. Gently roll the shirt material between your fingers to give it a soft edge once you're done cutting; and you're done! Enjoy!

XO

Happy Friday friends! Hope you guys are ready to enjoy your weekend, I know I am. I'm ready to get a little sleep in time at some point. This time of year usually always has me wiped out, but in a good, accomplished kind of way. Today, I went into F21 to get a few things for a party this weekend, and of course as usual, I see like a bazillion things I love and want to take home with me, one of which was a pair of glittery shorty shorts. I saw them, I wanted them, soo I decided to make some, plus I had been wanting to try some of this spray adhesive stuff I've had for awhile. This is a perfect little pair of shorts you can make for the holiday season, or just going out period! Glitter, in my opinion, is perfect for any occasion. Throw on some heels, a nice blouse and you're ready to go.

Enjoy!

XO

MN

p.s the sparkly-ness is much greater than it appears ;)

You'll Need: old shorts, spray adhesive, sealer spray (not necessary but I use it for all glitter projects) and some fine glitter.

Simply spray the shorts, sprinkle the glitter and let dry. Use the sealer spray on top after 24hrs of drying to keep the glitter locked in.

Hello again! Well, as the days fly off the calender, the fear/chaos/madness starts to set in. Yep, tis the season. So, if you're one of the many who is frantically trying to figure out what to get your bff for xmas even you're sister, here's a little something you can't really go wrong with, plus, it looks super luxe, feels gorgeous, and won't cost ya more than $10. I call it a faux fur collar, but I guess it's kind of a scarf like thingy too, whatever works for ya. For us Gulf Coast Southerners down here in big ol' Texas, it doesn't really get too cold, so this is a perfect little accessory to have in your wardrobe to make you feel like it's December, without making you sweat buckets. (Yep I was laying out yesterday in 86 degree weather!) Enjoy y'all, this one is easy peasy.

You'll Need: Some super super soft faux fur fabric, usually $5-$7 a yard, my measurement was about 10 inches wide by 32 inches long. Scissors, needle and thread, some snap on buttons, fabric glue if you're lazy, measuring tape, and pins.

Basically, fold the ends of the fabric inside towards the wrong side of the fabric so the ends won't fray. Pin down and head to your sewing machine and sew close, or if ya want, use some fabric glue. Fabric glue works well, it just takes too long to set up for me so give yourself drying time if you go this route, and some books to lay over it flat while it dries. I think the sewing machine is the easiest/fastest way. Now, fold your material in half, hot-dog style, so it now measures five inches wide, pin down and sew shut. Ta-daa you have fur scarf now! Wanna make it a collar? Simply take some snap on buttons and hand sew them into place with your needle and thread. I just sorta eyeballed where I wanted it to snap close, try to even them up as much as you can. Now you can snap your collar close. ANNNND, if you want, you can actually take safety pins and pin this to your coat collar or cardigan to give it a little faux fur action, just a thought. Since it's so freakin hot down here, I just wore it around a plain white tee to sorta feel like it's December.

Happy December friends! Gosh, can't believe it's already that time of year. I'm glad that I got going on a lot of family gifts actually on time this year. Whoohoo! Buuuut, that doesn't mean I'm safe yet, I didn't take into account all those parties, get togethers, you know all those fun socializing things that spring up tenfold around this time of year; and as usual I never have anything to wear. (my husband would say that in a sarcastic voice) Really though, it never fails that some part of the holidays I'm scrambling to figure out these things. My solution, Make it your self, duuh Nadine. So I rummaged around my closet found this old, old dress bought some feather trim at Jo-Anns for about $4.00 and sewed it on with my machine. Want to know an even better trick, buy fabric glue, the kind for T-shirts and stuff and glue the trim on.Let dry and done. Boo-yaaa! It's fantastic how easy this project is, and if you want you can toss it, keep it, spill Martini all over it, do whatever you want with it cause it'll more than likely cost ya less than $8.00. Hope this helps save ya money, and you know, maybe spend that extra on a little something for yourself.

MN

You'll Need: Scissors, feather trim about 1 yrd but go for two if you think you'll need more you can always use extra feather trim, trust me. Pins, and/or fabric glue if ya don't wanna sew it on or can't.

Pin the trim to the dress, sew it on with your sewing machine using a zig zag stitch and pulling lightly as you go along for all stretch fabrics to maintain elasticity. If you're not sewing, simply glue the trim in place with fabric glue (I love Aleen's Flexible, Stretchable Fabric Glue), let dry for 24hrs, trim excess. Done!

Hello Hello! I Can't believe it's already the start of a new week again, but I guess that's ok since it means holiday time is getting closer and closer! Hot chocolate, cozy sweaters, and gift making, some of my favorite things. Tonight, we are currently in the process of de-frosting our wedding cake to take a bite out of it for tomorrow, I'm sure it won't taste fantastic, but we're excited to try it out. Here's to many many many more years of awesomeness with my best friend.

With the gloomy weather we've been having on and off here, it has given me the opportunity to get some projects done. I've had these heeled oxfords for awhile now, and I thought they needed a little bit of an upgrade. The plain patent leather look just wasn't working for me anymore. I had some left over velvet material from a dress I made yesterday to get dinner with my husband (diy up later for that), I used that and some glue to sort of "wallpaper" the material onto the shoes. You'll love this make it, the options are endless.

Enjoy

xo

MN

You'll Need: an old pair of oxfords, E6000 glue, scissors, pins, paper, pen, and velvet material, less than 1/2yrd will do.

First, take the piece of paper, tracing paper works even better for this if ya have it. Tape it to the shoe as best as you can, and use your pen to get a relief of the area you are wanting to fill with material. Cut this piece out, now you have your pattern. Pin the pattern to the material, (note: by flipping the pattern over when pinning you'll have a pattern for both sides of the shoe without having to re-trace it). Cut the pattern out of the material. In total you'll need four cut outs for each side of both shoes, plus the toe caps of the shoe if you're wanting to do those as well. Now, apply your E6000 glue to the surface of the shoe and begin applying the material to the surface. Use firm pressure and smooth out any wrinkles as you go along. Once done, trim off any excess material carefully. When gluing down the toe cap parts, you may need to make small slits in the material at the very tip in order for the material to smooth out nicely. Ta-daa! New fancy shoes.

With Christmas time here, I find myself pinching my purchases in every way I can, especially in the wardrobe department. Which is good, I don't like to spend a ton on stuff like that anyway, but ironically somehow, during this time, you always are in need of stuff. A party dress here, a sparkly top there, you know tis the season for get togethers and wanting to look goooood. So, to save you some extra dough for the holidays, I thought this would be an easy and cute way to make a plain top, well, not so plain. I saw tons of these look-alikes in the mall for about $25-$30 but here, is my version for about $7.00.

You'll Need: An old top, some gems a small bag will run you about $2, and jewel glue, I used a brand called Jewel -It. It works really well just takes about a full 8hrs to cure.

Get a general idea of where you want the placement of the gems and simply get to gluing. That's it! Super easy, super cheap and instant cute. Add a little sparkle to your holiday wardrobe.

Enjoy!

Whohoo Happy Thanksgiving week y'all. Cause you know you celebrate pretty much all week long. Or maybe that's just me and I'm weird. I LOVE this time of year, it means family, food, more food, our anniversary, food; it just makes me feel super happy and excited. So sorry if it's been a little quiet around these parts, I'm just enjoying the down time I do have, it's refreshing. I hope this week is a pleasant one for you all.

I wanted to share this basic little sewing job I like to whip out once in a while when I'm in a pinch, or need something new. This skirt shape is perfect for so many occasions, and as you can imagine, the limits are endless. I tend to lean towards silks/silk blends when I can dish the cash on a few yards here or there, so I thought this would be the perfect project to tackle with some pretty silk blend material I had lying around. This is a great project to try if you're new to sewing. It's easy as eating pie, lots and lots of pie!

You'll Need: Almost double the length of your waist in material, length wise (I'd say more like your waist plus 3/4 of it, but I'd just double), some elastic in 1/2in size is fine, scissors, pins, needle and thread or a sewing machine.

First, cut your material to the length you want the skirt to be. I wanted to go from my waist to above my knee, so about 18in, plus leave an additional inch for the hem, so in my case 19in. Fold the top hem down over towards the back side of the fabric, about an inch or so, pin all the way down. Head over to your sewing machine and sew it close, but don't close off the ends on either right or left side, you 'll need those open. Now the fun part, take a safety pin and pin through the end of a piece of elastic cut to about an inch or so less than your waist. I cut mine about 18ins long since my waist is about 21in. Remember it's elastic so it gives. Close the safety pin and thread it through the opening of the hem/tube you sewed on the skirt. Basically, you'll push the safety pin through one of the openings, gather fabric and pull, gather more fabric and pull, so on and so on like an inch worm, just remember to hold onto the elastic at the other end or you'll just pull it through. Once that's done, head back to your machine and sew the two pieces of elastic close, sewing from the back side of the garment. Follow this hem all the way down to close off the skirt. Finish your hem with whatever stitch you like, I'm lazy so I just did a plain ol' zigzag all the way around the end. Ta-daa! The best sewing trick to have in your arsenal of get-by-on-the-least-amount-of-effort sewing, at least for me it is.

Enjoy!

Monday, it's the day I frantically try to finish up everything I should of done Sunday. Mondays for me are love/hate. Sometimes we are in office, sometimes not..so when we aren't it's kind of like a weird Sunday, and I'm okay with that. The other times we are working, and usually out of Corpus, away from our sweet, sweet bed. Today we were home, yay!

Have you ever had the hankering to wear men's dress wear? Honestly, the edges of a crisp blazer, the folds of perfect pleats, the freshness of bold and powerful prints and lines just swoon me on some days. Sometimes, the design and structure of menswear makes me daydream the transition of adding some of that to my wardrobe; hence, these babies. The Tuxedo Skinnies. So I love a tuxedo pant, but I wanted one that would echo femininity, not so masculine. I figured why don't I just take some old stretchy skinnies of mine, and some satin ribbon and see what happens. Well this did, and I'm happy for it.

You'll Need: Old pair of skinnies, preferably ones with stretch, satin ribbon in black, pins, scissors, and needle and thread. (you can use your machine, but it's a B)

This is easy as eating pie. Lay out your pants, lay out your ribbon on top of pants. Pin ribbon in place right under the belt line, and fold to avoid fray. Pin all the way down. Cut ribbon and leave about an inch or so wiggle room. You can attempt to sew the ribbon on using your sewing machine (using a zig zag stitch to maintain stretch), I did it, and it was difficult; more annoying really because you really have to pay attention to what your doing. I say hand sew the ribbon with some black thread. It'll take a little longer but I think overall a little more easy. Trim off the excess ribbon and sew down to avoid fray. That's it! Sexy little skinnies you already had, with a dash of chic. Throw on a sheer blouse for cocktails, or chambray top for a relaxed look. Wear black heels and make your gams look extra extra long.

Enjoy!
