mb.com.ph Manny Pacquiao was voted by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as its Fighter of the Decade (2001-2010), WBC’s long time chief Jose Sulaiman announced from the governing body’s headquarters in Mexico City.

Pacquiao beat out Oscar De La Hoya and a few other marquee names for the coveted award.

Although Pacquiao held numerous titles in other sanctioning bodies during the last 10 years, the 32-year old Filipino pound-for-pound king also won several championships under the WBC banner.

Pacquiao briefly held the WBC super-featherweight and lightweight titles and just recently annexed the super-welterweight title to his growing collection after also winning titles at flyweight (WBC), super-bantam (International Boxing Federation), feather (The Ring magazine), super-lightweight (International Boxing Organization) and welter (World Boxing Organization).
The WBC Fighter of the Decade award will only add more luster to Pacquiao’s already proud name, having been given the same accolade by the Boxing Writers Association of America and The Ring magazine for the same feat.
Pacquiao is currently out of the country with his family and is slated to return to the ring on May 7 against Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
A huge favorite against Mosley, Pacquiao plans to embark on an eight-week training camp for what he has described as “a very tough fight” considering Mosley’s durability and vast experience.
Trainer Freddie Roach said he is willing to camp out in Baguio City once again for four weeks and spend the next four at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.

Mosley told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo that he is out dispel reports that he’s become a “washed out fighter” and already at the twilight of his career.

“This will not be my last fight,” said the former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion. “I want to prove to people I still have it.”

Mosley’s selection as Pacquiao’s next opponent has drawn flak from several boxing analysts, who said the bout is merely a “money fight”.

Unlike other possible opponents for Pacquiao like Juan Manuel Marquez and Andre Berto, the 39-year-old Mosley is coming off a loss and a draw from his last two fights.

However, Mosley said he will still be able to give the 32-year-old Pacquiao "war" because of their fighting styles.

“It’s going to be a war, ‘cause styles make fights. It’s going to be really exciting fight,” said Mosley.

“Manny has speed and power, I have speed and power,” he added.

Mosley said he remains a dangerous fighter because he is hungry for a win.

In May last year, he stunned the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. with two vicious shots to the head in the second round of their welterweight fight.

Mayweather, however, battled on in the remaining rounds to beat him by points.

Four months later, Mosley fought Sergio Mora, the first champion of NBC’s boxing reality show “The Contender.” The fight ended in a controversial split draw.

Mosley said he is well aware that Pacquiao is a dangerous fighter.

"I respect Manny, a true warrior. [He] gives 100%,” he said.

Mosley claimed the one who fights intelligently will win.

“It’s going to be a real test of the mind,” said Mosley. “With the way we both fight, it will surely end in a knockout.”

The Pacquiao-Mosley fight is due to take place on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mosley said he will undergo 6 weeks of training in Big Bear, California to prepare against the reigning pound-for-pound king.

Pacquiao-Mayweather non-match is The Ring's 'Event of the Year'

abs-cbnNEWS.com MANILA, Philippines – The so-called "Fight of the Century" featuring boxing champions Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.–the match boxing fans could only wish had happened this year–won the 2010 Ring Fan Poll Event of the Year.

In the online survey conducted by prominent boxing magazine The Ring, the fight that had never taken place topped the results with 60 percent of the votes.

It even came ahead of the actual fight between Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito in November with 21 percent, and the death of Venezuelan boxer Edwin Valero in April with 12 percent.

The fight between Mayweather and fellow American "Sugar" Shane Mosley came in fourth with 6 percent. It was followed by the March bout between Pacquiao and Ghanaian Joshua Clottey with 1 percent.

The in-demand bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather was scheduled on March 13 before both camps reached several disagreements.

In late 2009, the Mayweather camp had repeatedly accused Pacquiao of using illegal substances when the Filipino boxer declined for a random blood testing within 30 days from their fight. Pacquiao countered by filing a lawsuit for defamation against Mayweather's camp including Mayweather, Jr., Floyd Mayweather Sr., and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.

Another round of negotiations took place with Mayweather imposing a 14-day no-blood testing period. However, Pacquiao disagreed and concurred only to a 24-day no-blood testing window.

On January 7, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum had shut off chances for a wanted match.

Later on, Arum had backtracked and set mid-July as the Mayweather camp's deadline to agree with the terms– a plea the undefeated American boxer has never reacted to.

Arum, Roach see no easy fight: Mosley durable, poses big threat

By Abac Cordero, The Philippine Star At 39, Shane Mosley can still pull the trigger.

That’s why Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach are saying it’s not going to be an easy fight.

“Shane is a very durable guy. He has a very good chin,” said Roach, who knows a good match when he sees one.

The multiple winner of the Trainer of the Year award said Pacquiao’s May 7 showdown with Mosley is not going to be a walk in the park because they’re hard to find these days.

Pacquiao insists Mosley is a tough opponent
“There’s no easy fight out there anymore,” said Pacquiao.

“People said the fight against Margarito was going to be easy. Was it easy? You all saw what happened,” added the vacationing Filipino champion.

Yes, Pacquiao has been on a roll, winning his last 13 fights. Most recently, he’d been up against the big boys, Oscar dela Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito.

Mosley, who beat Dela Hoya twice (in 2000 and 2003), lost to Cotto in 2007, and crushed Margarito in 2009, has never been knocked out in his long and colorful career.

The closest the pride of Pomona, California came to being stopped was against Vernon Forrest a very long time ago. He said it won’t happen against Pacquiao in Las Vegas.

“It won’t be easy but I think we can stop him in the later rounds. It won’t be an easy fight. When he beat Margarito everybody thought he was the best welterweight,” Roach added.

The celebrated trainer also told boxingtalk.com that Pacquiao won’t take Mosley lightly, and he wants eight full weeks of training beginning in March.

People have started to liken Mosley to Bernard Hopkins, the 45-year-old boxer who just wouldn’t stop. He came off two early knockdowns to beat 28-year-old light-heavy Jean Pascal just weeks ago.

“I’m ready to go and put on the best performance of my career,” he told boxingtalk.com.

“I demolished Margarito and then I knocked him out. Manny didn’t knock him out after I did and I don’t understand. This will be a great fight and it will be exciting. Everybody who has ever wanted to mix it up with me has gotten knocked out,” Mosley added.

Pacquiao insists Mosley is a tough opponent

Cebu Daily News Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao insists that his May 7 WBO welterweight title defense against former champion Shane Mosley is a tough fight.

Pacquiao was answering a torrent of criticism in a front page story in the Inquirer which reported that criticisms of the Filipino boxing king’s showdown with Mosley “are rising like a tsunami on the internet with ring experts and fans alike denouncing it as a slap on boxing.”

Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley
However, Pacquiao who left for Japan with his wife Jinkee and his kids on a vacation which will also take them to Australia, said that despite the criticism the fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arrena in Las Vegas is 95 to 98 percent certain to take place .

Prior to boarding his flight Pacquiao told ABS-CBN “my opponent (Mosley) is good. It will be difficult but I can handle him.”

Prominent among those who expressed disappointment over the choice of Mosley was WBC founding secretary general Rudy Salud, who believes that if Floyd Mayweather Jr doesn’t step up to face the challenge then Pacquiao should retire and only come out of retirement if Mayweather is ready to face him.

Salud said Pacquiao should not claim he is fighting for his country and people if he fights Mosley which, Salud claimed, was only for the money although he didn’t question Pacquiao’s right to make money while at the prime of his career.

This is the same position adopted by celebrated trainer Freddie Roach, who said that there was no need for Pacquiao to retire at the peak of his career and with a couple of good years ahead of him.

At the same time both Roach and Arum pointed to the fact that Mosley had beaten Oscar De La Hoya twice in “The Golden Boy’s” prime and scored a spectacular 9th round TKO over Antonio Margarito last year.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has indicated that Mayweather has too many personal problems to deal with right now to think of facing the best fighter in the world today. But he also thinks Mayweather is probably waiting to see whether Pacquiao begins to deteriorate and might then decide to step up and fight him.

Jean Pascal: 'Manny Pacquiao is the second best boxer on earth right now'

Manny Pacquiao, best pinoy boxers

eatthemushroom.com This week’s 105th edition of On the Ropes Boxing Radio featured an exclusive interview with WBC light heavyweight champion of the world Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KOs), who is coming off a somewhat controversial draw against Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KOs). Boxing fans are already eager to see a Pascal-Hopkins rematch early next year. Pascal, however, is contractually obligated to have a rematch against Chad Dawson (whom he beat back in August). Pascal spoke about his most recent fight, discussed future rematches with Hopkins and Dawson, shared opinions on the Super Six, and more!
Here is a complete transcript of that interview:
JENNA J: It’s actually time for our first guest on this week’s episode. He is still the reigning light heavyweight champion of the world after a tough fight this past weekend. We are joined by Jean Pascal. How’s everything going tonight, Jean?

JEAN PASCAL: Things are going good for me. Thank you, and you?

JENNA: It’s going great. We’re happy to be talking to you. Let’s discuss your fight a little bit. You fought Bernard Hopkins, the ageless warrior, the legend. It was a close fight. It was ruled a draw. What did you think about the bout?

PASCAL: Actually it was a close fight, but I really think that I did enough to win this fight. I was home and I’m the champion, so every close round you have to give it to the champion. I think that even though that was a close fight that I did enough to win, but the judges saw something else. It doesn’t matter to me. I’m ready to face Bernard Hopkins one more time to prove I’m the best.

JENNA: Alright now before we talk about a potential rematch let’s talk about the bout itself. Early in the first round, it seemed like it was a pretty even contest and at the end of the round you hit him with a borderline shot and knocked him down. What were you thinking then?

PASCAL: The shot was on his ear. I’m not a dirty fighter. Bernard claimed that I was dirty. He’s the one who’s dirty and everybody knows that. I’m not a dirty fighter. I’m a clean fighter and I will always fight clean because I like to win fairly. Like I said, that was a clean shot on his ear and he’s just trying to complain. Every time Bernard is unhappy. He’s trying to say, “I got robbed! I got robbed!” Listen man, you’re 45 years old. Man up! Except that and try to come back stronger. Stop complaining. Stop crying like a baby Bernard, you’re 45 years old!

JENNA: Bernard was boxing a little bit better in the third round and you caught him with a clean shot. There was no doubt about that knockdown. What were you thinking when he went down for a second time?

PASCAL: I was saying to myself, “Everything is going good for me, but I have to stay focused because Bernard is a tough customer and he’s been there and done that”. So even though I dropped him twice, I knew it would still be a tough fight for me.

JENNA: Okay, now it was a tough fight after that round. From the fourth round until the twelfth round Bernard was boxing very well. What were you thinking about the way he was coming back?

PASCAL: Bernard made some good adjustments and that’s where we saw his experience. Bernard has 27 world championship bouts. That was my sixth one, so I’m a young fighter. I learned from that fight and I’m going to come back stronger. Like I said, Bernard, stop complaining that you won the fight. It was a close fight. The judges decided it was a draw. Let’s make it happen again. That’s it!

JENNA: Being that you knocked Bernard down twice, do you feel you’re the stronger fighter?

PASCAL: Actually Bernard is a strong fighter. He’s physically strong. He’s tall. He has a decent punch, also. So I don’t really think I had a big advantage on that because Bernard is a strong fighter himself.

JENNA: Okay now there is a little bit of a debate over who you will be fighting next. You have a rematch clause that you have to honor with Chad Dawson and there has also been huge demand from everyone for you to fight a rematch with Bernard Hopkins. Who do you think you’ll be fighting next?

PASCAL: Of course I’d rather fight Bernard Hopkins because with Bernard it was a close fight and against Chad Dawson it wasn’t close at all. So of course I would rather fight Bernard Hopkins, but don’t worry Chad! I’m not scared of you. I’m not trying to run away. I’m going to respect the clause. You want to do your rematch? Let’s do it, and after that I’m going to take out Bernard Hopkins.

JENNA: Now there was a lot made of the judging for the bout with one of the judges having the tenth round scored even. Do you think being that you fought the last one in Canada that you should fight a rematch with Bernard in the United States?

PASCAL: Listen! I’m a soldier. I’m a warrior and I will fight anywhere in the world, any time, against anyone, and if Bernard can fill up 16,000-17,000 people in an arena, let’s do it in the States. I have no problem with that.

JENNA: Alright! Well Jean, we’re also joined by my co-host Geoff.

GEOFFREY CIANI: Hey Jean! It’s a pleasure to have you back on the show and I enjoyed watching your fight this weekend.

PASCAL: Thank you very much.

CIANI: Jean I wanted to ask you first, what about Bernard Hopkins surprised you most during the fight?

PASCAL: It was the way he made his adjustments. He’s a clever fighter. It helps that he has a lot of experience. He has a lot of tricks and it’s the way he made his adjustments against me. It was great, but like I said, I learned from that and I won’t do the same mistakes twice. So that’s why I want to fight Bernard again to prove I’m a better boxer than him.

CIANI: Now you mentioned how he was able to make adjustments. One thing I noticed, especially through the first three rounds in the fight, you were having a lot of success landing left hooks, oftentimes lunging left hooks that were finding the mark on Bernard consistently. You seemed to get away from throwing that punch. Was that because you were looking for something else, or was he making adjustments that made it more difficult to find the openings with that shot?

PASCAL: He definitely made adjustment but the thing is after that I was too cautious because of his head. I was worried to get cut, because Bernard used a lot of his head and his forehead, and he does have a strong and hard head. So I was cautious because of his head and that’s why I was a little bit careful to throw my punches really close to him.

CIANI: Were there any points where you tired going down the stretch?

PASCAL: Yes, I was tired because it’s a boxing match. Every round I’m going 110% so of course after every round I would be tired. But the thing is I was in shape because after the one-minute break I was ready to get into the next round and I wasn’t tired. That’s why I knew that I was in shape, but to be tired in a fight is normal. It’s part of the game and if you’re not tired after a boxing fight it’s because you didn’t give it your all.

CIANI: Now what do you think was the one thing during this fight that you did most effectively?

PASCAL: Honestly I didn’t watch the fight yet. So I have to sit down, watch it, and see what I did good and what I did bad.

JENNA: Now Jean, you say that you want a rematch with Bernard. What do you think you will do different that you didn’t do this time that will allow you to be more successful against him?

PASCAL: The one thing that I’m going to have on my side while I do the rematch is experience, because I gained a lot of experience during that fight. I’m a more natural boxer. I’m going to be more complete, and of course I won’t be the same. Bernard said every time I fought the young lions it would be the same. Of course I won’t be the same because I will be way better.

JENNA: People say Bernard looked the best he has in years. What do you think allows Bernard to be so successful, even at the age of 45 turning 46?

PASCAL: Bernard is a special case. He’s not the average 45 year old man. He’s taken care of his body, of his soul, of his mind, and he’s a special athlete. He’s a special human being. There are no three, four, or five Bernard Hopkins’ on this planet. He’s a special guy. He’s a special man. I do respect him a lot as a human being and as a boxer, but I have a job to do and I think I am the best and I want to prove that I’m the best.

JENNA: How disappointed would you be if you were forced to fight Chad Dawson next due to a contract instead of Bernard Hopkins?

PASCAL: I won’t be disappointed because Chad Dawson is going to be another challenge. I think Chad’s going to make the wrong move to fight me right away but if that is his team’s view. If he wants to fight me right now I have no problem. After that I will take care of Bernard Hopkins. Or if he wants to step aside and let me fight Bernard and then take the winner, I have no problem with that.

JENNA: You mentioned quite a few times during the interview that you wanted to fight Bernard and you’d do things differently. If you were to predict right now what would happen in a rematch, what would you say would go down?

PASCAL: The only thing that I can predict right now for a rematch is I will win this rematch. I will prove that I belong in the pound-for-pound list and I’m the best light heavyweight in the galaxy.

CIANI: Jean, while we have you on I wanted to get your opinion on some of the stuff going on in the Super Six super middleweight tournament with your former opponent Carl Froch. He’s got a fight coming up in the semifinals of the tournament. He will be taking on Glen Johnson and I was wondering what you thought of that fight?

PASCAL: That’s going to be a tough fight for Carl because Glen, remember, in his 40s is still good. He’s taken care of his soul, mind, body, and that’s going to be a tough customer for Carl Froch. That’s going to be a terrific fight, but I think Carl has the every tool needed to beat Glen Johnson.

CIANI: What do you think it is about guys like Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins that allows them to perform on such a high level at such an advanced age?

PASCAL: It’s easy. Those guys are special. They are special athletes. They are special human beings and there are not many guys or athletes like them on Earth.

CIANI: Going back to the Super Six for a minute, let’s look at the other semifinals match coming up, and that one is between Arthur Abraham and tournament favorite Andre Ward. What are your thoughts on that one?

PASCAL: That’s going to be an interesting match-up, but I think that Andre Ward is too smart, too fast, too skilled for Arthur Abraham and he should win this one.

CIANI: Going back to your fight with Hopkins, a lot of people thought Hopkins didn’t look good in his previous two fights against Roy Jones and Enrique Ornelas. Do you think he was more motivated to look good against a young champion like you?

PASCAL: Of course, because he wanted to have the WBC belt but on top of that, he wanted to make history one more time and that was a great motivation for him. So for sure he was at his best and Bernard loves challenges and I was a big challenge for him.

JENNA: Well Jean, I have just a couple of more questions before we let you go and my co-host was talking about the Super Six and the semifinals match-up, but right now from what you’ve seen of all the fighters, who do you think is going to win it?

PASCAL: Like I said, those guys are really good. It’s a tough tournament and anyone has a chance to win this. I’m going to watch every fight because Showtime did a great job with this tournament and the boxers have so far put on a great show.

JENNA: Well everyone wants to see a match-up between Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch and Andre Ward in the finals. If those two are to meet, who would you favor in that match?

PASCAL: Honestly, that would be really a good fight. That’s a tough call because Carl Froch is a tough customer. He’s physically strong. He’s a heavy hitter. He’s a smart fighter. Andre Ward is a good guy. He’s a great boxer, fast, clever, and both guys are my friends so it’s really hard for me to predict the winner, but one thing is sure—we’re going to have a great boxing match.

JENNA: You mentioned before you want to climb up the pound-for-pound rankings. The top guy right now, Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao is facing ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley in May. What do you think about that match-up?

PASCAL: The pound-for-pound guy right now I think is Floyd Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather is the real deal. Manny Pacquiao is the second best boxer on earth right now. That will be a good match-up against Shane Mosley, but honestly I’d rather Pacquiao face Andre Berto. He’s a young fighter and I think that would be a better challenge for Pacquiao.

JENNA: Now looking at 2011, what is your main goal?

PASCAL: My main goal is to get in the pound-for-pound list. I almost did on Saturday night. I missed on my chance, but it won’t happen again. Next time I will take that chance and I will win the fight.

JENNA: Jean, what do you have to say to all the critics who felt you lost this bout with Bernard Hopkins?

PASCAL: Listen all of the critics come from America and you guys love to criticize people. You guys love to say, “I got robbed! I got robbed!” Listen, the American judge had Bernard winning this fight with one or two rounds and the two other judges had it a draw. So I think that was a fair call. The fight could have gone either way. Even though I think that I won the fight, that was a tough call, a tough fight, a close decision, and that’s why we have to make it happen again.

JENNA: Alright! Well Jean, it’s been an absolute pleasure talking to you so soon after your bout and we thank you for your time and wish you the best of luck in 2011.

Pacquiao-Mayweather biggest (non) story of year

miamiherald.com The fight that never happened continued to dominate conversation in an otherwise healthy 2010 for boxing. A Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. dream bout remains just that -- imaginary -- because their representatives twice failed to reach deals on a possible fight between boxing's best two ``pound-for-pound'' fighters.

In this Nov. 13, 2010 file photo, Manny Pacquiao, right, lands a punch against Antonio Margarito during the eleventh round of their WBC light middleweight title boxing match in Arlington, Texas.

After negotiations failed for a first possible match with Mayweather in March, Pacquiao opted for Joshua Clottey and won a lopsided decision. Talks for another possible fight with Mayweather in November never materialized, and Pacquiao instead fought Antonio Margarito. Despite facing a 17-pound disadvantage the night of the fight, Pacquiao pummeled Margarito's face throughout the 12-round match and won a convincing decision and his seventh world title in separate weight classes.

Both of Pacquiao's fights in 2010 were at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiao attracted more than 40,000 fans in each bout, a welcome sight for a sport that usually holds its marquee fights in Las Vegas.
Mayweather's one ring appearance of the year was against Shane Mosley in May. Mosley briefly stunned Mayweather with a powerful shot to the head in the second round before Mayweather recovered, played target practice with Mosley's head the rest of the bout and won a convincing decision.
Mayweather made more news this year for his legal problems, however, including charges of domestic violence involving his former girlfriend and mother of three of his children. He also is facing separate charges for an alleged altercation with a Las Vegas security guard.
Mayweather has pending court dates for both cases next year, which means future fights -- including the dream bout with Pacquiao -- appear on hold.

Pacquiao-Mosley Provokes Selective Outrage from the Boxing Media

associatedcontent.com After two years of aggressive denial and of helping promote the most cynical matchmaking of an elite-level fighter in recent memory, the mainstream boxing media has finally come out loud and aggressive in their condemnation of Shane Mosley as Manny Pacquiao's next opponent on May 7th in Las Vegas.

Manny Pacquiao VS Shane Mosley
But, lest we forget, these very same "experts" actually encouraged Bob Arum's hubris in matching Manny against anyone he damn well felt like. For two years, Pacquiao zig-zagged over three divisions, picking up meaningless belts from the loser's bracket against toothless tigers while the media nearly built monuments to the Filipino Buzzsaw and his greatness.

Dan Rafael of ESPN had this to say about the Pacquiao-Mosley matchup: "Arum doesn't care. He only wants to do what is best for himself, certainly not for boxing. He is going to put Mosley in the ring with Pacquiao soley because of name. It's a move that will squeeze out the last gasps of Mosley's once-outstanding career so Arum can generate another big payday while doing a disservice to real boxing fans who actually care about the matchups and not just a famous but faded name...A one-sided loss [and a draw in an awful fight] is not supposed to be how you land a fight with the pound-for-pound king and the sport's most popular fighter."

Of course, Rafael's statement is the truth, but the difference is that some of us have been saying this since Pacquiao, post-De la Hoya conquest, first started on his road to super stardom. Take out the name "Mosley" from the above quote and substitute it with "Hatton, Cotto, or Margarito" and it holds just as much water.

BLOCK REJECT, THE BEST OPPONENT AGAINST PACQUIAO

boxeomundial.net The year was boxing fan and stayed where it: mulling over their misfortune it was impossible to see which people refer to as "the fight you would like to see": Vs. Mayweather, Jr.

How Funny Would It Be If Mosley KO’d Pacquiao?
Worse, already know Manny Pacquiao's opponent next year, to May if things do not happen, often, ni son fortuitas ni sorpresivas. Shane Mosley is the privileged, because it is a privilege these days face a fighter more powerful than Superman in a demeaning show what the boxing, where we know who will win since the date is announced; but choose the opposite with tweezers and a string of adjustments and requirements so that, or playing, is handling the real possibility that you could lose. Nothing is clean Pacquiao: neither he nor the battle..

Why Mosley accepted the lawsuit without the slightest chance of victory? In fact the sport is full of surprises and perhaps believe in the evil day; possibly understand that can match in speed, resistance and pasted; however, life although any appropriate imponderable, a fighter in the condition it is the Californian, who needed the help of a thousand virgins to develop at Sergio Mora, that neither boxer is, be the last of which was a miserable chyle bet against filipino.

Mosley had no chance of returning to the big fight unless it was with Top Rank, or the money more than generous going to give to receive 600 the 700 dangerous shock, or propaganda fanfare that pulls the Asian. Their conditions, now, the liquidated are deplorable that keeps on trying for a seat would be good 4th. category, maybe in Tijuana and 4 pesos. Then you can say "hit the jackpot without tickets" ... For the award and the risk.

Amir Khan was gelatin from the waist down without being beaten, only to hear the hum; Roach trains him and then gives Maidana "to eat here and go" by the jaw, the head, plexus and supports, recovers and comes out with more speed than ever to last round, a guy who had to finish knocked from the 5th. any assault ... please.

Nobody can beat Manny Pacquiao until 154 lbs. and Martínez 'Maravilla', because he did not accept the fight at that weight and not lose because if Arum and Roach decided to give it in that division, but it would be too much to demolish in a junior middle-class natural fighter of Argentina without, at least 40 % of those who follow him with irreversible blindness, not doubt that rare and inexplicable way that reaches and is an obvious open book.

The only possible for Manny Pacquiao otherwise, the most balanced and clean should be rejected, it impossible to block access if no reliable evidence to continue with this mess that is fraud and eyes open in the ring against men, some, better than him. In life anything can happen, even in boxing; But Mosley has lost, otherwise this fight would not.

Manny Pacquiao: Larry Merchant Says Shane Mosley Is Dangerous

nowboxing.com When boxing fans around the world heard that Manny Pacquiao will fight Shane Mosley on May 7th, most of them immediately wrote it off as an easy win for Pacman. HBO analyst Larry Merchant has always been a huge Pacquiao supporter himself, but he doesn’t see Mosley as a pushover. In fact, he called Sugar Shane the most dangerous opponent possible.

How Funny Would It Be If Mosley KO’d Pacquiao?
Even more dangerous than Floyd Mayweather.

“I think Shane Mosley presents the most danger. You have to remember that Pacquiao is still fighting bigger guys. What would happen if Mosley fought Marquez? If you’re asking who I think he should fight, and who would bring in the most money, then it’s Marquez, but if you’re asking me which of them is the most dangerous, then it’s Shane Mosley,” Merchant said

I agree that Mosley is more dangerous than Marquez, but he’s no where near the most dangerous possible opponent out there. Andre Berto and Sergio MArtinez both pose a much bigger risk than Mosley.

I won’t even waste time mentioning Floyd Mayweather because he’s no longer a potential opponent for Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao vs Sugar Shane Mosley – Review
Don’t buy into the reason being Shane Mosley has the biggest name and will help sell the fight better. Don’t get me wrong Shane Mosley is a nice guy but you won’t be able to sell a fight when both guys are smiling and bashful complimenting each other. Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley would put people to sleep on HBO 24/7. How many times do we have to see Manny Pacquiao being distracted and 50 Filipinos sleeping in a crowded condominium in Los Angeles?

Since Freddie Roach once told Shane Mosley that he was “TOO GOOD” for Manny when Mosley was begging for a fight with Manny Pacquiao even offering to fight Manny at 142 pound catchweight, Roach still declined because he knows his Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao is overrated and not capable of defeating a dangerous prime fighter coming off a devastating win like when Mosley destroyed the feared Antonio Margarito.

Now all of a sudden Roach wants Manny to fight Mosley because Mosley looked horrible against Floyd Mayweather Jr and Sergio Mora, great matchmaking by the Roach.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Shane Mosley knocks Manny Pacquiao out cold? If that happens, I will be laughing so hard and I hope the HBO camera crew zooms in on Bob Arum and Freddie Roach’s faces when it happens.

I would keep replaying the knock out over and over. To finally see Manny Pacquiao get knocked out for trying to cherry pick his opponents would be justice — that’s what he gets for cheating history with catchweight titles.

The more I think about it, I can see Manny Pacquiao acting over confident and thinking he can handle Mosley’s punch, but the moment he allows Mosley free shots to the body and head, Manny might take a dump in his pants feeling a left to the body from Mosley. I guarantee Manny will think twice before letting Shane Mosley upper cut and hit him to the body again.

Will this be the fight where Manny Pacquiao finally gets exposed? All the real true boxing fans like myself already know Manny Pacquiao’s legacy was manufactured, but on May 7 hopefully Shane Mosley shows the world that by knocking out Manny Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao vs Sugar Shane Mosley – Review

Manny Pacquiao: Larry Merchant Says Shane Mosley Is Dangerous
boxingnews24.com There was an authentic Circus around the selection of Congressman Manny Pacquiao´s next opponent, too much names considered but only one choice, the obvious one. Fans around the world had different opinions but at the end there was no surprise and money was the primal factor to determine who would be the next opponent of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion.

Why Shane is the right choice according to the promoters? because this bout will give to all the involved big revenues, besides as it was stated average fans don’t know who Juan Manuel Marquez is, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has too many legal problems, Sergio Martinez is too big and he wont fight below 154 pounds and still be competitive, and Berto cant pull big pay-per-view (PPV) numbers.

Is Shane a real threat to Manny? He will be almost 40 years old by the time he fights Pacman, he will have 18 years as a professional boxer, his best days are long gone (perhaps as a lightweight), he will have only 5 fights in a lapse of 42 months since he lost UD12 to Miguel Angel Cotto (WBA World welterweight) to the date he will fight against Pacquaio. He draw against Sergio Mora in his last fight, he lost by UD 12 to Floyd Mayweather, stopped Margarito in 9 rounds the same night that Antonio was caught previous their fight with illegal hand wraps, he beat Ricardo Mayorga KO 12 in a close fight, and lost by UD12 to prime Miguel Angel Cotto; in his last five fights has a record of W2-L2-D1.

Manny Pacman Pacquiao´s fans wont admit that this is not a competitive fight, they will defend his idol and be belligerent against who ever dares to think opposite to them. Meanwhile Sugar Shane Mosley´s fans will believe and will be certain that Shane is the favourite, these fans wont admit Shane is way past his prime and wont recognize that this is a big payday for Shane to be used as a step stone to glorify Pacquiao´s legacy.

Roach factor – first he will say Pacman will win by decision but also will say that Mosley is still a very dangerous fighter, later on he will say that Pacman can stop Shane in the late rounds; he will hype the fight saying Pacman hasn’t trained properly and finally he will state that Pacman will be able to KO Shane in the early rounds of the fight.

Congressman duties factor – Pacquiao isn’t training as he should, he is been distracted meanwhile Shane is all business in the gym.

Writers and sports journalist will go wild, some will see Shane winning others will see Manny. Perhaps someone will advice Pacman of any accidental headbutt that may ocurr in his fight against Shane. Some writers will say that Shane looks weight drained. Pacquiao will be hyped as the only 8 different weight divisions champion about to beat a current tremendous fighter (not a former). At press conference Shane will look sharp, will look fast and accurate in training, they will say he has the experience and skills to beat Pacman, and many will start to believe that he has a real chance to beat Pacman, Sport press will compare Floyd victory against Shane, to the eventual outcome of the fight.

Reality is: that this is a tremendous business, this fight will sell high PPV numbers, most of the buys will be purchased by casual fans, Roach picked Shane because he is certain they can beat him, this will be a big action fight but wont be competitive, Pacman will win and his fans will crown him as the greatest of all times. At the end who cares about real competition. And if by any chance Shane wins it will be the upset of the century.

No longer a Golden Boy but Mosley grabs golden parachute from Pacquiao fight

Freddy Roach Manny Pacquiao Bob Arum Picture
examiner.com Some workers get a luncheon, where hard rolls, cold cuts and soft drinks are offered up before the Big Bossman praises the employee's long, loyal service.

This is usually followed up by the presentation of a glittering watch that looks like Rolex on the exterior but is Nolex, meaning a cheap Hong Kong made windup model, inside.

Others, those who are more fortunate, roll out of work and into retirement with a golden parachute. But those awesome packages of loot and company stock are only for the already well off, the CEOs and other highrollers who may already have fancy cars and a fractional ownership, at least, in a private jet.

But, every once in a while, the blue collar worker—and even though he will go into the Hall Of Fame, that is what Sugar Shane Mosley's pro career has been, blue collar work at a high level—hits it lucky on his way out the Acme Widget Company front door.

Therefore, I propose we call the May 7 Mosley-Manny Pacquiao fight exactly what it is, which is the Retirement Ceremony for the Financial Betterment of Mr. Mosley, who turns 40 on his next birthday.

Many seem to have a problem with this Gold Watch presentation arranged by Messrs. Arum and Pacquiao for the benefit of Mr. Mosley but I do not.

Chances are this will be Mosley's final fight as he showed in the Sergio Mora debacle, his last bout, that he is more or less what Sugar Ray Leonard used to refer to as “a punched ticket.”

If indeed it is, if Pacman drives him into retirement as he did Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya, I say, so what?

I say, look on the bright side, look it as Mosley, who aside from his BALCO illegal drug use and then lying about same under oath, has been a real, solid citizen of boxing, a superstar who has mainly brought credit to the so called red light district of sports.

If Mosley grabs himself $7 million before rendering as he must to the IRS and his ex-wife, the effusive Jin Mosley, I say, well bully for Mosley.

Mosley has never, ever not given a 100 percent honest performance with his work gloves on.

OK, so he cheated to beat Oscar and has never really come clean on the issue but even the BALCO mess just typifies Mosley's competitive streak.

It's a discusssion I will never have with Shane Donte Mosley, and neither will any other fight scribe, but my thinking as to the BALCO episode is that Mosley was led there by a trainer/consultant who surely told him that other boxers—maybe even Oscar—were using the same or similar verboten drugs so that they could perform better inside the ring.

Yes, Mosley was a proficient worker who just wanted to perform at a higher level.

That excuses his BALCO trip, his BALCO calendar, his BALCO package of forbidden goodies, at least in my scattered mind.

I feel the same way about Mosley and drugs as I would if we now discover that the great Lance Amrstrong, who I greatly admire, has actually been beating competitors back with the boost of illegal drugs.

Athletes are competitors.

Top level ahtletes want to compete with and beat all the other guys. They're just like those sharks running those big hedge funds.

So much for this Merry Christmas tangent.

Mosley's leaving Las Vegas on May 8 with a heavy, new 401K package. Call it that or call it his Roth IRA or call it his Pacquiao Package.

Every dollar, every penny, every nickel, every quarter, every dime...all the moolah coming Mosley's way, he deserves it.

So he will get what looks like his final big payday in the ring.

Again, good for him.

But, before the Nevada commission inspector hands Mosley his first paycheck in the dressing room, you can be sure Pacquiao will make him pay.

PACQUIAO’S CHANCE TO RELAX A BIT IN MOSLEY

Arum: Mosley still best pick vs Manny
philboxing.com This is it! This is the fight which I posted in PhilBoxing last November 21, 2010, calling it a boring fight. The world’s top fighter in all divisions, facing a boxer way past his prime, come May 7, 2011.

Manny has been facing opponents much bigger than him, with the likes of Oscar de la Hoya, Miguel Angel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, and lately the most gigantic of them all, Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao has fought these foes against all odds. He brawled against the Golden Boy whom many believed as a tough opponent due to his size and experience. He dominated de la Hoya and showed humanity that a fighting Filipino is worthy to be on top of the world.

Pacquiao also stopped Cotto by a TKO which satisfied his fans all over the world. But the fight with Cotto was not a feast day for Pacman as Cotto proved to be a warrior by heart and was not an easy foe to deal with.
All Clottey had to do was to protect his face and his body from the blows of Pacquiao and the African fought not to win but not to loss by KO. It was one lesser opponent and a tune up for the next tougher rival in Margarito.

The Mexican warrior is a combatant by heart and by deeds. His size and strength proved to be a superior weapon against the Pacman arsenal. Though winning by a unanimous decision, Pacquiao failed to knock the Tijuana Tornado down, and the Mexican finished twelve rounds with face badly swollen.

Through Bob Arum’s stroke, Mosley was given the chance to face the pound-for-pound king, even at the dusk of his boxing career at 39. Yes, it will be a boring fight and Mosley has nothing to lose and every million dollar to gain. The fight was all for the help of Mosley, allegedly in a tight financial fix.

But it could also serve as a tune up fight for the next bigger encounters and the subsequent tougher opponents, against Juan Manuel Marquez, Andre Berto, or if he finally comes out of his shell, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Pacquiao has no pressure fighting Mosley and could gain millions of dollars against the popular African-American who could still be a box-office hit despite his age.

The fighting congressman has so many duties to do and so many responsibilities to look into after missing sessions due to his training for Margarito. Being a national legislator is not an easy task and he will be even further pressured if he has to face immediately a big name opponent after a tough fight.

Pacquiao has to relax a bit in facing a slower Mosley as a training or practice fight for a bigger payday against more established rivals – Marquez, Berto or Mayweather.

Arum: Mosley still best pick vs Manny

PACQUIAO’S CHANCE TO RELAX A BIT IN MOSLEY sports fanatic
philstar.com Some called it garbage. Others said it sucks. That it’s a stickup.
Bob Arum, the world’s greatest salesman, said no way. He said it’s none of the above.
Arum said the Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley fight on May 7 will be as good as the others.
That’s what he thinks.
The fight is set at the MGM Grand, not too hard to fill. But this early, some experts see a one-sided contest.
Again, the ageless chief of Top Rank disagreed.
“People are like, ‘Well, what about Mosley’s last two fights?’ Well, what about his last two fights?” he asked.
“Mosley fought (Floyd) Mayweather, and he’s the only guy in Mayweather’s whole career to really hurt Mayweather and to really have him in trouble. So Mosley is capable of hurting Manny,” Arum told boxingscene.com.
That Mayweather fight came last May when Mosley rocked the undefeated American early but failed to carry on, losing a lopsided decision.
Then last September he fought Sergio Mora to a draw.
“Anybody who made that match should be shot. To put Mosley, an older fighter, in with a guy who is completely defensive and just stinks you out is not doing Mosley any favors,” Arum told Lem Satterfield.
“So, as far as I’m concerned, the most competitive guy of the three for Manny is Mosley. And I mean, that’s after looking at Mosley’s whole track record.”

Others who had hoped to land the megabuck fight with Pacquiao were Juan Manuel Marquez and Andre Berto.
Arum said Marquez, of Golden Boy, overpriced himself out of the equation, reportedly demanding a guaranteed $5 million and $5 for every pay-per-view hit exceeding half a million buys.
Arum said Mosley’s style suits Pacquiao.
“So maybe if you put Mosley in there with a defensive fighter at his age, you know, Mosley runs out of gas because he can no longer handle it if you run from him.
“But if he’s in there with someone who comes forward like Pacquiao does, then Mosley still has the bullets and the counter-punching ability and he’s a strong guy who can give anybody like that trouble.”
Mosley said anything could happen in May.
“But for this fight against Manny Pacquiao, it’s up to me to make sure that that he doesn’t have the upper hand and that that isn’t the case. I’m coming into this fight knowing that that is not the case.”
Mosley, of course, is on the same page with Arum.

Why is Pacquiao fighting Mayweather’s leftovers?

Mosley no easy prey, says Pacquiao
boxingnews24.com Why is Manny Pacquiao suddenly fighting all of Floyd Mayweather’s leftovers? First it was Ricky Hatton after Mayweather had beaten the taste out of his mouth in 2007, and now it’s Shane Mosley, who Mayweather easily beat this year by a horribly one-sided fight. Doesn’t Bob Arum have any other ideas for his fighter than to put him in with guys that Mayweather badly schooled in the past? Mayweather does a number on these guys and they don’t look the same afterwards.

And then Pacquiao comes along and fights them and basically picks up what’s left of them after Mayweather’s masterful performances. And when Pacquiao isn’t fighting Mayweather’s leftovers, he’s fighting guys that nobody wants to see him against, like Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito. Do you honestly think Mayweather would waste his time against either of those guys? I’d love to be a fly on the wall to hear a conversation between Mayweather and his promoter if he were to mention those guys as possible opponents for him.

I think it would be short conversation with either one or two words and that would be it. Mayweather has a nose for picking out guys at the top of their games. Unfortunately, they don’t stay that way afterwards. Why doesn’t Pacquiao set a new trail and forget about Mayweather’s leftovers and take a risky fight by going after WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez or maybe Timothy Bradley? I’d even settle for Paul Williams right now. Anyone but Mosley.

I’m sure Pacquiao and Arum could convince Martinez to melt down to some strength draining catch weight if they waived enough money in front of Martinez’s snoot. As long as it’s not some rediculous catch weight number like 142, I’m sure he’d take the fight if he’s given enough money. At least Pacquiao would be fighting someone that boxing fans want to see him against. Heck, I can’t remember the last opponent that Pacquiao fought that anyone really cared about other than his diehard fans. The Miguel Cotto fight was seen as a mismatch ahead of time because Cotto had been pulverized already by Margarito and had barely survived Clottey.

HBO Boxing 2010: Floyd Mayweather VS. Shane Mosley VIDEO
Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday, May 1, 2010. ProMMAnow.com did the play-by-play and we scored rounds one and two for Mosley, although the first round was close.

The most exciting round was round two, especially if you were rooting for Mosley. He hit Mayweather harder than he’s been hit in a long long time, actually wobbling the undefeated fighter. It appeared for a moment we might actually see Mayweather get knocked out.

As round three began, Mayweather made an adjustment. Whatever advantage Mosley had earned began to fade. The small flame of hope Mosley had earned in the second round faded with each consecutive round.

Mayweather was younger, faster, his jabs were much harder, and his punches much tighter and crisper. The defensive Mayweather showed he could stand toe to toe with a strong welterweight and beat him in a real fight. As the fight ended, after twelve rounds, Mayweather was not even breathing hard.

What this fight did was make people want to see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao even more. If fans were hungry for the fight before, now they are starving for it.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley Might Be Pacman’s Last Fight in America

Roah: It Won't Be Easy But Pacquiao Can Stop Mosley
nydailynews.com The Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather is no closer to happening then it was earlier in the year, when negotiations were said to be underway. So for now, boxing fans will have to settle for the next best thing -- a fight with "Sugar" Shane Mosley.

With Pacquiao unable to get a response from Mayweather to gauge his interest in a fight every boxing fan wants to see, the Filipino boxing star has chose to take on former champ, Shane Mosley, in a pay-per-view bout on May 7th in Las Vegas.

Pac-Man's promoter, Bob Arum, made this announcement this week, saying that Mosley has agreed and both camps are finalizing the paper work.

"Shane has agreed to everything and now we're circulating the paperwork for final signatures, the drafts have been sent to his lawyer," Arum said. "Whether it gets signed tomorrow or the next day, it's done.

"I believe it will be an exciting fight," he told ESPN in a separate interview. "Shane knows how to fight and how to deal with the speed. Manny is in for a hellacious fight. I really believe styles make fights."

The fight will take place at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds, so Manny doesn't have to fight at any larger than he's fought in the past.

Mosley is hyped about the upcoming fight, and despite his age of 39, he says don't underestimate him.

"I know that they think I'm an old man and that Manny is going to beat me. Let them think that," Mosley tells ESPN. "I still have power and speed. They thought I was done before I knocked out [Antonio] Margarito, too. So they can think whatever they want. I know what I can do."

Sports critics, and some fans, feel that Mosley is past his prime. He was beaten by Mayweather in May, and earned a draw against Sergio Mora in a junior middleweight fight in September.

Mosley, however, thinks otherwise.

"Pacquiao? Come on, man. I'm a bigger guy than him and he gets hit. And you saw how I hurt Floyd," said the former lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight champion. "Manny is going to come forward and I will hit him on the chin at some point. His defense is not like Floyd's. Manny will come at me, and I will knock him out."

According to reports, Pacquiao was also contemplating a fight with either lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez and welterweight titlist Andre Berto, but in the end, he and his promoter felt Mosley was the biggest draw of the three.

During Manny's last fight in November, he won a lopsided decision against Antonio Margarito, winning a vacant junior middleweight belt and cementing his boxing legacy and smashing records by winning titles in eight weight divisions.

Mosley knocked Margarito out in the ninth round of their fight in January 2009, one fight before he lost to Mayweather.

After Pacquiao defeated Margarito, Arum says that he tried to see if they could make a fight with Mayweather happened, but said he could not get a response from his camp.

Roach: It Won't Be Easy But Pacquiao Can Stop Mosley

Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley Might Be Pacman’s Last Fight in America

boxingscene.com Trainer Freddie Roach is predicting that his boxer, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, will stop "Sugar" Shane Mosley on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mosley has been down in one fight, against Vernon Forrest in 2002. The goal for Team Pacquiao is to accomplish something that no other fighter has been able to do, to stop Mosley.

Roach says it "won't be easy." Mosley is known to have a very good chin. He fought some of the biggest names in the sport, including Winky Wright, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricardo Mayorga, Antonio Margarito, Fernando Vargas and many others. The only fighter who had him seriously hurt was Forrest.

"Shane is a very durable guy. He has a good chin. It won't be easy but I think we can stop him in the late rounds. It won't be an easy fight. When he beat Margarito, everyone thought he was the best fighter at welterweight. We're going to train very hard for this fight. We don't take any opponent lightly," Roach said.

Manny Pacquiao Vs. Shane Mosley – Five Predictions For The Fight

<img alt="Manny Pacquiao Vs.
Andre Berto’s name was also in the preliminary mix, although he was viewed as a pretty long shot since he is yet to have a high profile fight against a household name like Pacquiao.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum did not make it much of a secret that Mosley was his favorite choice, seemingly intrigued by the draw the fight will get because of Mosley’s name value.

Many fans were turned off when they heard the latest news, since Mosley has the look of a guy who is past his prime.

Out of 11,238 voters, as of noon on December 22nd, 53% were “not interested” according to an ESPN Sports Nation poll that asked “How interested are you in the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight?”

A mere 13% responded “very interested”, while 34% responded with “somewhat interested.”

Mosley hung tough, and one could even argue that he was beating Mayweather, in the first two rounds of their fight in May. However, he completely fizzled out from there and got owned by the Pretty Boy from their on out.

His subsequent fight with Sergio Mora did little to restore his credibility, as the winner of NBC’s first season of “The Contender” battled Mosley to a draw in September.

While a good portion of fans and analysts alike felt that Mosley deserved the W in this one, many also agreed that Mosley in his prime would have easily picked Mora apart.

Mosley remains confident that he has not lost a step, stating that "I still have power and speed. They thought I was done before I knocked out [Antonio] Margarito, too” and went on to say he would knock Pacquiao out.

Should we believe the powerful puncher, who will be 40 years old when this main event fight takes place?

Probably not, but let us take a look at five realistic predictions for this MGM showdown in May.

Manny Pacquiao's bout with Shane Mosley hurts boxing, but increases earnings for promoter Bob Arum

Mosley no easy prey, says Pacquiao
nydailynews.com For all those who thought Manny Pacquiao would be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time or even getting into the ring against a young, fast welterweight champion like Andre Berto for his next mega fight comes the disappointing news that the PacMan will be meeting 39-year-old former welterweight champ Shane Mosley in Las Vegas on May 7.

For all of those, like me, who never thought that promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank would let his cash cow get into the ring against someone who is remotely competitive, or seemingly competitive, the news of Mosley being the next Pacquiao opponent isn't surprising or disappointing. Actually it makes perfect business sense - low risk, big reward.

It is merely par for the course with how Arum promotes Pacquiao, but if you want to blame someone for Pacquiao fighting Mosley, blame Pacquiao because ultimately he's the one who decides who he wants to fight. All Arum does is outline the financial particulars and negotiates the contracts with the various parties involved with staging the fight.

Of course Mosley is the path of least resistance for both Arum and Pacquiao. Mosley recently parted ways with Golden Boy Promotions, a hated Arum rival promotion company, and Mosley looked bad in his two most recent fights. He was dominated by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and he looked old and disinterested against the talentless Sergio Mora.

Arum gets to keep everything in-house since he doesn't have to negotiate with another promoter and he gets to run the show the way that he wants. Of course he doesn't have to share any of the profits from the promotion either. It's a win-win for Arum and Pacquiao, who doesn't go into the fight worrying about ending up face down on the canvas.

It's bad news for boxing, which has already been stiffed twice with the failed negotiations for the only match that anyone wants to see - Pacquiao-Mayweather.

When the biggest attraction in the sport is involved in another match that is perceived as not being competitive, then what's the point for most boxing fans? Of course Pacquiao has a blind, loyal legion of followers in the Philippines who view the newly minted Congressman as some kind of athletic deity. Maybe they will be the ones who plunk down $50 or $60 a pop for the pay per view.

But how many times can you sell Pacquiao against the Joshua Clotteys, Antonio Margaritos and Shane Mosleys of boxing? Arum aims to find out before he is forced to make a meaningful match for his singular sensation.

It's amazing how quickly Arum's view of Mosley changed when Mosley's promotional circumstances changed. After Mosley beat Mora, Arum dismissed Mosley as not a viable opponent for Pacquiao, deeming Mosley too old and slow to make a marketable match. As soon as Mosley dropped Golden Boy as his promotional partner, he became the best option for Pacquiao.

Mosley no easy prey, says Pacquiao

Mosley thrilled to face Pacquiao
philstar.com From his family vacation, in the beautiful island paradise of Boracay, Manny Pacquiao yesterday said his May 7 fight with Shane Mosley is not going to be an easy fight.

Pacquiao was asked to comment on the thoughts of boxing experts that Mosley isn’t the wise choice when there’s Juan Manuel Marquez or Andre Berto calling his name.

Pacquiao paused for a couple of seconds.

“Magaling si Mosley (He’s good),” was the pound-for-pound champion’s delayed answer.

“Hindi easy fight ‘yan (It’s not an easy fight),” added the 32-year-old Pacquiao, who will spend Christmas in his favorite nest in Boracay, the posh West Cove Resort.

The reigning WBC super-welterweight champion had to remind everybody that Mosley knocked out Antonio Margarito in the ninth round of their January 2009 fight.

For 12 hard rounds, Pacquiao threw bricks at Margarito last Nov. 14 at the Cowboys Stadium, but failed to send the 5-foot-11 Mexican down on the floor even once.

Mosley also defeated Oscar dela Hoya twice, in 2000 for the welterweight crown, and in 2003 for the light-middleweight title.

“Wala namang easy fight dyan (There’s no easy fight out there),” said Pacquiao.

Sugar Shane Mosley - I'm going to knock Pacquiao out

Sugar Shane Mosley VS Manny Pacquiao Fight Results
cnn.com "Sugar" Shane Mosley has vowed to knock out Manny Pacquiao when the pair face each other at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on May 7.

Following confirmation that Mosley will challenge for Pacquiao's World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title next year, the American believes the Philippine legend can be beaten.

Speaking to Boxingscene.com website, the 39-year-old Mosley, who was beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier this year, said: "Pacquiao's defense is not as good as Floyd Mayweather's defense.

"I think I can probably win a decision but I am going into the fight to knock Manny out," Mosley added.
"I am pretty sure that Manny will be trying to knock me out as well -- that is why it is going to be a great contest. We are two guys who are willing to fight."

With Pacquiao's long-anticipated fight against Mayweather Jr. still no nearer to becoming a reality, veteran Mosley -- who has held world titles at lightweight, welterweight and light-middleweight -- was seen as one of the few viable aternatives, despite his unimpressive draw against Sergio Mora in September.

Mosley has lost six of his 54 fights while 32-year-old Pacquiao, viewed by many as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, has only been beaten three times in his career and will be seeking his 14th consecutive victory.
