Sheffield-based boutique dealmaker Strategic Corporate Finance has acted as lead deal adviser in completing no less than three business transactions within as many weeks. 

The dealmaker, which specialises in acquisitions, disposals and management buyouts across wide-ranging sectors, for company founder Steve Roberts on selling his remaining substantial shareholding to conclude a management buyout of Sheffield based Environmental Monitoring Solutions.  

One day earlier, Strategic Corporate Finance concluded the sale of fourth-generation family-run Doncaster printer Askew Design and Print. 

Finally, the dealmaker acted as match-maker between lifting equipment manufacturer Penny Hydraulics and winch specialist R&L Systems, which makes equipment to raise and lower chandeliers. Strategic Corporate Finance facilitated and negotiated the deal after being commissioned to identify complimentary acquisition opportunities for Penny Hydraulics, which is based in Chesterfield. 

Managing director Andrew Coates said: “So far this year has been a very exciting one, with these three deals completing within days of each other. It’s especially rewarding to note that these businesses have received a boost that will enable them to flourish in the future. 

“The first quarter of this year has seen a huge increase in appetite for company disposals, management buyouts and acquisition searches. Looking at our transactional pipeline, this indicates to us that the M&A market is now seeing levels of appetite that haven’t been experienced for several years.”

New research has found that nine out of 10 people see the directive as a step forward for consumers, research from IMRG and eDigitalResearch found.

Of the consumers who were polled online, 75% were not aware of the EU cookie directive.

Just 16% of those who had heard of the directive were fully aware of the alterations which will come into effect on May 26.

When those people were alerted to what the new directive entails, 89% said they believed it to be a positive step for consumers, while 79% said the changes were necessary.

As both brands and retailers prepare for changes, the knowledge and awareness of consumers surrounding cookies and their use is rather blurred.

One in three (33%) of those who were surveyed thought that cookies could be used for Trojans and viruses.

A cookie is a piece of data stored by a website within a browser, which is designed to ensure sites remember things a browser has previously done.

JBC Open Day

Hall-Fast, the industrial supplies company that was recently honoured as the Midlands Exporter of the Year, has struck a new partnership with the Green and Whites’ community department to deliver coaching into North Nottinghamshire.

Nottingham Rugby community department manager Steve Smith is proud to join forces with Hall-Fast, running programmes with junior clubs in the area and in primary and secondary schools.

Among the clubs to potentially benefit from the Hall-Fast and Nottingham Rugby’s Development Project will be Mansfield, Ollerton, Ashfield, East Retford, Southwell, Worksop, Chesterfield and Newark.

With community coach and Worksop resident Josh Salathial delivering the initiative, the program will have a truly local feel.

Nottingham’s first team stars will also be enlisted as guest coaches, to help tap into a hotbed of talent that has produced Under-20 England Counties fly-half James Stokes (Mansfield), former young England international Tom Calladine and former Newark and Green and Whites back Greig Tonks who has since gone on to star for Northampton and sign for Edinburgh.

The program will kick-off during the June half-term, and will quickly be rolled out into schools in the area and plug directly into club pathway project.

“By working with Hall-Fast, a booming local business in the region that is keen to deliver something special to the community that it works in, we have teamed up with one of the best,” Smith said.

“It’s a hugely exciting program for us because it’s a project that works outside our immediate catchment area. But with Hall-Fast managing director Malcolm Hall’s enthusiasm and local knowhow and Josh’s eagerness to work where he has grown up playing the game makes it’s a special initiative for all involved.

“We will deliver a variety of programmes to support the development of schools rugby their involvement in competition and improve their links to local clubs and opportunities for young people to participate in the game.”
