I get a chance to see first-hand which roofing contractors seem to have the most yard signs around town since I live here in Mansfield. I’ll be the first to admit, this isn’t a scientific study, but you’ll be interested to find out what I know…

Usually, you can tell a lot about a roofing company by the number of signs around your neighborhood. Bad roofing companies don’t get 2nd chances because people still talk to their neighbors!

If you’re not going to call me, the mansfield tx roofer, I want to give you the names of some roofing companies and tell you what, if anything, I know about them. I hope this helps you. Remember, if you still can’t decide on a good roofing contractor, pick up the phone and call me at (817) 264-7242.

Here’s my list in no particular order:

Tuttle Roofing

I know the owner of this company personally, most of the people that work in the office and many of the sales personal out in the field. They are a big, nationwide company that can do almost any type of roof, but no roof is too small. They are kind, sincere and personable.

Since they’ve been around the DFW Metroplex since the early 80′s, you know they’ll be there if you were to have any troubles in the future. Good Texas Roofing Company!

Toucan Roofing

I didn’t think I knew anything about Toucan Roofing – I just kept seeing their roofing signs in almost every neighborhood I went into. They’re everywhere!

Turns out I know Mark Daniels. We worked together many years ago for a major roofing contractor who heavily advertised on 94.1 FM KLTY. If you listen to Christian Radio in the metroplex, there’s a good chance you’ll remember the company. That company packed up and moved to Georgia several years ago. Anyway, Mark’s a fantastic guy, he really cares about his customers and you’ll appreciate the way he does business.

Joe Hall Roofing

These guys are a class act. That’s all I’ve got to say about them. As you probably already know, it is a family business. I’ve been out on a few insurance inspections with the guys from Joe Hall and the homeowner’s insurance company. They handle themselves professionally and seem to really care about their customers.

Lon Smith

From the very first day I got into the roofing business, back in 1995, Lon Smith has dominated the local roofing and re-roofing market. They are a big company with lots of qualified, experienced sales people and roofing crews. They probably do more business in North Texas than any other roofing company. They work closely with the major insurance companies and can assist you with your insurance claims.

Quality Tops Roofing

Again, I don’t know too much about this company. I do see their signs quite frequently when driving around. The one thing that stands out in my mind is that they’ve had a local yellow pages ad ever since I can remember – I believe it has always been at least a full page ad. That is expensive to do and you can’t keep doing it unless you’re making money.

Dorsey Roofing

Again, I hate to admit that I don’t know too much about Dorsey. They’ve got an office located in Kennedale – not too far from the Burger Box. I understand he’s a local fellow with a good reputation for taking care of his customers. His signs are everywhere and several people speak very highly of his workmanship.

Quick Roofing

I’ve noticed several yards signs for Quick Roofing in Mansfield too. While I don’t know much about Quick Roofing, I can tell you that they seem to do quite a bit of work in and around the Mansfield & Arlington area. They have an office located just up the road in Kennedale TX at 100 E Broadway… not too far from the Burger Box. From looking at the Quick Roofing website, I see they also have offices in Austin, Houston and San Antonio.

So, there you have my list of 7 Roofing Contractors in Mansfield Texas!

I hope this list has been helpful to you. If you need help replacing your roof or working with your insurance company, pick up the phone and call me. I’ll get you the help you need right away.

There was a huge hailstorm that blew through Mansfield and South Arlington a few weeks ago. The hail wasn’t really that big… a little bigger than marbe size. However, it blew in with such force that it just tore everything up.

My kids have a trampoline in the backyard that was shredded. The padding around the trampoline was ripped up. It looked just like a spa cover that had been through a hail storm. The foam padding that was around the safety poles was shredded too. It was a lot of fun to see that hail bounce off the trampoline. My only concern was it bouncing into my windows.

The other thing that got blew out was my front safety lights by the garage. They had a heavy, heavy glass covering. The covering was blown out and the light was exposed. Fortunately, the hail came in from the back of the house. So, it didn’t have a chance to dent my garage door all up.

The roof hardware is dinged and pinged to death. I don’t have any roof leaks, but I did find some shredded shingles on the side of my house while mowing the yard today. There are already a few roofing signs up in my neighborhood. You want to try and hire a mansfield tx roofer. I’m sure we’ll be getting several new roofs around here.

If you need help getting your roof replaced, pick up the phone and call me or fill out this form to get a quote. While I’m not actively involved in roofing anymore, I would be happy to point you in the right direction.

Peace,

If you’ve had hail, you have hail damage!

Roofing Mansfield Texas | Free Roof Estimates

Before you can understand hail damage, you need to understand how your shingles are made. Once you understand, you’ll want to call me. Here’s a brief explanation:

The Fiberglass Mat (Bottom Layer)
Most homes in the DFW Metroplex have a composition shingle (3-tab, 30 year, 50 year, etc.). The foundational material for your shingle is a fiberglass mat. This mat is strong so that it will not tear easily in high winds.

The Tar (Middle Layer)
If you’ve ever driven by a commercial roof job, you’ve probably smelled hot tar in the air. It has a definite odor. That tar is applied to a base. In the case of a residential shingle, the tar is applied to your fiberglass mat. It serves as an adhesive for the next layer of your composition shingle.

The Granules (Top Layer)
The granules are held securely in place by the tar covering your fiberglass mat. These granules are colored so that your roof appears gray, brown, white, etc. However, the main purpose of granules is to keep the tar and fiberglass mat from drying out. Once a shingle roof starts to dry out, it will curl up on the sides. The shingles become extremely brittle as the hot Texas sun dries them out. They will then blow off easily in a high wind.

If you’ve had hail, you have hail damage. The hail came and pounded the granules of your roof… loosening them from the tar mat so that they come off easily whenever it rains (check your gutter downspouts!).

Once the granules are gone, it’s not long until your roof starts to look old and worn out. It is impossible to sell your home because it won’t pass inspection. You are susceptible to water leaks because your shingles won’t lie down flat any longer.

Pick up your phone and call me now.

Do You Need A New Roof?

Roofing Mansfield Texas | Free Roof Estimates

If you need a new, pick up the phone and call my mansfield tx roofing company (817) 264-7242.

Here’s another great article from the web entitled, “Do You Need A New Roof?”:

Your home’s roof is critically important because it ensures the integrity of its structure and protects it from the elements. When it comes to repairs and replacements you want to choose the type of roof and a roofing contractor carefully. Think of your roof as an investment – the cheapest option is not always the best. Although there are several types of durable roofing, for most homeowners shingle roofs are the most economical and come in a wide variety of colors and styles. Shingle roofing materials are composed of a reinforced fiberglass mat and asphalt; however, modern shingle products can mimic the look of slate and wood cedar shake for far less money. Roofing materials have warranties ranging from 30 to 40 and even 50 years. Ideally, a homeowner will only have to replace a roof once or twice in a lifetime.

Steel is another very attractive option and it is becoming increasing popular. It has long been popular in industrial settings, but better styling and its amazing durability have drawn the attention of homeowners. The cost is greater but the roof will last more than twice as long and it improves property values. Most metal roofing manufacturers offer a transferable warranty. Steel or metal roofing also provides better energy efficiency and holds up better against severe weather such as hurricanes, heavy snows, hail and even fires. Some insurance companies even give discounts to homeowners who have metal roofs installed.

Regardless of the type of roof you choose ventilation plays a significant role in the life of your roof. On shingle roofs, the heat build-up in the hot summer months combined with cold winter weather will take a toll if not properly installed. Inadequate ventilation can cause problems such as ice damming and condensation may accumulate from frost and humidity. Proper air circulation prevents buckling, blistering, curling, and ultimately rotting, and dramatically reduces the odds of leaks and repairs. Improperly installed shingles and ventilation may void the manufacturer’s warranty.

Ventilation aside, normal weathering of asphalt roofing shingles will not cause leaking, but problems such as ageing or damaged flashings or wind damage may. It is important to repair damage quickly to prevent more serious problems such as rot. The best way to prevent serious problems is regular maintenance in the form of semi-annual or annual inspections. These inspections can catch problems such as collected debris (which has a tendency to store water), algae, loose shingles and problems with flashings. It is also a good idea to keep overhanging limbs trimmed back. Algae causes discoloration and it plagues homes all across the United States. Algae resistant shingles are one option, but for a roof that isn’t ready to be replaced a thorough cleaning with bleach and chlorine will remove it but it puts surrounding vegetation at risk and it is not the most environmentally friendly process. Zinc strips are another good option. When rain washes over the strips the zinc is released and it washes the algae off the roof over time.

Installing Metal Roofing – The Details Behind the Steps

If you are currently preparing yourself for replacing your old roof on your own, you might already know that the steps of installing metal roofing are fairly easy, which is true. However, there are some people who might not know the reasons why these steps need to be taken. That is why we will be explaining them right now.

The first step in installing roofing is to remove the old roof and clear the surface of all leftover nails and rubble. This is important so that there are no bumps or barbs that can become obstacles to installing roofing.

It is also necessary to check the old wood for signs of termites. Before installing, you have to make sure that the frame of the roof is able to withstand the weight of the new material and the pressures during construction. If not, you should consider replacing the wood first.

Another vital step in roofing is the drawing of guidelines for the laying down of the sheets. This will ensure that the sheets are all laid down straight. This particular step in installing is more crucial when using flat sheets where it is very hard to see if the sheets are laid at the right angle or distance from the previous sheet.

Making each sheet overlap with the next while installing is also very important. This move makes water leakages practically impossible. It will also prevent snow from being blown in during torrential storms. An overlap of at least 5 inches is recommended.

After installing sheets, you now have to attach the metal edging around the perimeter of the roof. Besides giving a completed look to the roof, the edging also serves to seal off the holes between the sheets and the base of the roof.

In order to really make sure that the gaps are all sealed, you can also apply some rubber strips under the edges of the roof. This will prevent the propagation of insects and other small critters inside your roof.

Finally, it is time for the metal cap. This is the very last step in installing roofing. A metal cap is attached to the crown of the roof by using screws. The gaps formed between the edge of the roofing cap and the actual roof surface can also be sealed off using caulk or rubber strips.

As mentioned earlier, the installation of metal roofing is very easy. In fact, we are certain that you will be able to do a terrific job with your own roof.

But now that you clearly understand the reasons behind each of the steps in installing, we hope that you will pay even more attention to the tiny details of your installation process and be even more thorough in doing all the steps. After all, the more successful you are in installing roofing, the better protected your house will be in the years to come.

Here’s another great article about measuring roofs:

Roofing Calculator For Roof Renovation

It could easily be argued that the roof is the single most important part of your house because it serves to protect your home from the elements such as rain, snow and wind. However, not all roofs are created equal and you will see that there are many types of roofing including flat, slanted, dome and ridged. All the types of roof have two layers the inner structure which gives support and the outer structure which shields the building as it is structured in such a way that it does not allow the adverse weather condition to affect the building. The material used for making a roof is also varied it can be plant material which is known as thatched roof, clay along with binding material to marble and metal and various other material which is easily available in that area. Nowadays, due to the developments in the method of building drainage system, flat roofs are preferred in most of the places.

What is Roofing Calculator?

Roofing calculator is a tool which is available on the web for the exact calculation of the material needed to build a new roof or to renovate the old roof. This tool is very helpful as it saves time and money. You do not have to search for the experts in roofing and hire their services to get the exact measurement of the roof and find out the exact amount of material needed for the roof. The roofing calculator gives all the information and the owner can do it online. The rough idea about the shape of the roof and the measurement information idea will do the trick and the owner does not have to be a roofing expert but to get the accurate feedback you have to feed in some basic accurate measurements that will help the roofing calculator to provide the information about the exact cost and material needed for renovation or for building a new roof.

How to Go About Measuring Your Roof Correctly

To measure a roof correctly you have to know the basics about the shape of the roof. It is easy to measure a flat poof, but for a slanting roof you have to measure the slope which is known as the pitch and the distance between the centers of the roof to the outer end which is called the run. The best way to get the exact measurement without climbing the ladder with a measuring device is to calculate according to the measurement given in the blue print. But do not worry if you are weak in mathematics it is not a big problem as there are various sites on the internet which act as roofing calculators and the measurement is done by them automatically by feeding in some basic details about your roof which can be obtained from your roof plan. The roofing calculator can also be used to estimate the exact amount of paint or coating required for the roof.

The State of Texas (as of this writing) does not have a formal licensing procedure for roofing contractors. If you are looking for a reputable contractor roofing mansfield tx, pick up the phone and call me today (817) 264-7242.

Here’s an article that you may find helpful when selecting your roofing contractor:

Roofing is one of those construction areas that gets lots of bleed over from other construction practices. While many think they can provide roofing services, you are crazy to use anyone but a licensed roofing contractor.

A light rain storm rolls through your city one weekend. You are walking down the hall and step in something wet. You look up and groan. There is a stain on the ceiling and water is pooling there. Yep, you’ve got a roof leak.

Fortunately, the storm passes by without much more damage being done, but you know you need to get the roof fixed. You ask around and a friend knows someone who should be able to do the job. That person says it will be no problem and quotes you a price. The job is done and you think nothing else about it.

A year later, storm season hits again. Everything is fine for the first few storms and then, wham!, you’re roof starts leaking again. You call the person that fixed it, but can’t find them. You’ve got a problem. Alternatively, you find them and they tell you the work was done as is without warranty and they’ll need more money to fix the repair they made!

So, what are your options? Well, you don’t really have any since you didn’t used a roofer licensed with the state. You could file a lawsuit against the person, but the fact they don’t have a license usually means they don’t have insurance or many assets. In short, you are going to have to find a real roofer to fix the problem and, of course, pay again.

Using a licensed roofing contractor is critical when it comes to roof construction or repairs. Why? A couple of reasons. First off, roofing work is not cheap. Do you really want to risk using a hack who might or might not do the job right? Paying for the job twice is going to be expensive.

More importantly, a licensed roofing contractor is very consumer oriented because there really isn’t much choice. In a majority of states, a roofing contractor must be bonded and insured to get a license. If the roofer subsequently does bad work, you are going to get your money back or proper work done.

Licensed roofers do excellent work as well. Many are so confident in their skills that they will guarantee it in writing. As long as you don’t get on your roof and start swinging an axe, they’ll repair any damage for 10, 15, 20, 30 years or more depending on what they guarantee. Yes, they will put it in writing.

It is okay to use less formal options in many parts of our life. Roofing is one area where you really don’t want to be cheap. Use only licensed roofers to protect yourself.

Roof Hail Damage Insurance Claim Denied ?

Roofing Mansfield Texas | Free Roof Estimates

If the insurance claim for your roof’s hail damage was denied (even though your neighbor got a new roof), I’ve got good news for you… It’s gonna be okay! Go ahead, breathe now.

The first thing you need to do is to get a 2nd opinion. Invite a professional mansfield tx roofer out to take a look. Most will give you an honest opinion without asking for any payment.

If they can find proof that your roof did indeed suffer terminal damage, ask them to take pictures and show you what they’ve found.

Next, call your local insurance agent to let them know you are not satisfied with the initial report. Ask to have a new adjuster come out and meet with you and your professional roofing contractor. Be sure that they schedule a time when you can meet with them in person.

When the day arrives, introduce your roofing contractor to your new adjuster. State your case simply and let the adjuster know what you expect out of the meeting. Then go inside and let your roofing contractor go to work for you.

It may take a few minutes or a few hours but in many cases this will be enough to get your roof replaced.

If you have any questions, feel free to call for help.
