At first glance it looks like a MapleStory clone and in honesty, that was the very first thing I felt when I started the game. Once you get started your are greeted with three character slots, because this game is still in beta your options are very limited at the time as far as color of eyes, hair, and clothes. The hair and eyes are actually based on the characters class, which you choose at the start and even the stats are randomly distributed to fit your class. (Please do not ask about stat builds because even I am not sure and going on a MapleStory build for warrior, 2dex 3str)

Classes are the same for MapleStory with the exception of Pirate of the newly to be added Cygnus Knights. That being Mage, Swordsman, Scout (Known as Bowman to us), and Thief. However there are two paths each class can take which would be best explained or shown by you guys visiting this link.
Characters

Stepping Inside

Once inside you are greeted with the tutorial for the game, which is pretty straight forward. Just to include though here is a run of the current buttons at start.
Ctrl – Attack
Alt – Jump (Press alt again to double jump)
Arrows to move
Down Arrow and Alt – Jump down
Down Arrow – Pick up items

To my surprise, you will actually be greeted by the NPCs with a small voice clip, which may or may not be a good thing as some of the voice acting for the NPCs are kind of annoying.

As part of the tutorial you will learn how to shop which is yet another easy thing to learn. The shop will display the items for sale, the basket is current items selected to purchase or sell and the very bottom will show your ending total once you hit trade.

Then comes to the shops for armor and weapons. You can browse through all the gear or choose which set of gear you would like to look at so it only shows your class.

Fighting and leveling up will be what all other MMORPGs are known for, kill monsters and complete quests in order to advance to higher levels. Of course you will have your skills and party members (if you choose to party) to help aid this normal routine. If you are injured you will blink and be invincible for a few short moments. As far as enemies being re-spawned you will see an enemy start to blink showing the enemy is about to spawn, nice little warning to move the monsters your currently fighting to another area of the ledge or map.

Stats and Skills

As can be expected, once you level up you will be awarded 5 stat points and a few skill points (I dont know if they increase as you level) The stats are the normal Str, Dex, Int, Luck, as for Vit and Wis, this is to manually add more health or magic to your character.

As for skills you will be given points when you level which can be used within your Basic skills or your class skills. Basic skills have to do with increasing your HP/MP gain while resting as well as your MaxHP/MaxMP gain per level. The skills are built, the best way I can explain it, like World of Warcraft, in which its a skill tree which means if you see an arrow from a skill to another one, you will need the minimum of skill points in the first one in order to get the next.
An example is in the basic with HP up. You need rest to get the hp restore and you need 5hp restore AND be level 6 to start adding into MaxHP up.

Storage and Open Market

You will have a place to store your goods should you find gear for your class and be to low level for it or any other reason you have to use it and space can be increased, however the method to doing so im unsure of. By that I mean I dont know if you need to pay real cash to expand or if you can find the stuff to do so.

Open Market is pretty much a mix of the Free Market and MTS. A big open area for us to use to sell our goods as well as a Sales Agent to sell our goods for us. However at first glance, stuff looked a bit pricey to me, but being new there, thats to be expected im sure.

Unique Stuff (compared to Maplestory)

~There is a PvP system that I’m sure a lot of people will look forward to. Should you meet someone you would like to challenge, right click them and request a battle. When the request is accepted you both will be teleported to a special arena where the battle will be held. There are many more PvP features to be added however currently, I believe its only for honor of being the stronger one.

~There is also a mining system in which you will be digging up gems and minerals which I haven’t explored all that much.

~Monster Cards can be collected as you kill monsters and once you get 3 you can morph into the monster yourself. There are of course stronger morphs available to those who pay cash (as what I got from the loading page that was shown)

The game was alright, I cant say its better than MapleStory and I definitely cant say it is worse as its all about opinion. However looks are deceiving, when I looked at the YouTube videos of it, a part of me wanted to just say no to this game, but once I got inside and actually played it for a bit I changed my mind. It is still in beta and you will need a Beta Key, however just Google for one and you can find web sites giving away beta keys just for signing up for the site. Nexon & GameCheetah

If you’ve been going to game cheetah, a forums/ discussion site, that talks about games and hacks, and private servers, you may have noticed that Nexon has threatened them, or so “may” have threatened them. This isn’t the first hacking site to down/ or threatened by Nexon too.

Exactly what the site said:
Game Cheetah is temporarily down due to threats of legal action by Nexon Corporation.

We expect it to be back online within a few days.

Too Much Fun?

Well we all know MapleStory is one of the most popular games around the world, but is it slowly turning into the next WoW?

Here’s an article about an addict with a serious problem:

In another crazy gamers news story, this time we go to Japan where an addicted Maple Story player goes off on parents after his parents try to disable his account.

Here is an excerpt from a column from the Daily Mainichi:

A third-year junior high school student, her son became obsessed with the online role-playing game MapleStory last fall. He had gotten good grades up to that point, and his parents, who had had high hopes for him, panicked when he stopped going to school. When they asked the game’s publisher Nexon Corp. to disable their son’s MapleStory log-in capability this past April, their son turned violent, prompting them to call the police. The boy, frantic, leaned out a second-story window and screamed that he would die if he couldn’t play the game. Worn down, his parents pleaded with Nexon to reinstate the account.

The boy now sits in front of the computer 15 hours a day. Once outgoing and expressive, now “he has a stern gaze and looks like a different person,” his mother laments. “He’s brusque with us, but sometimes, when he’s facing the computer screen, he’ll suddenly let out a chuckle…”

Without self-control, you will lose lots of time. Make sure you take a break at some point or you might end like the poor boy.

Banned for “Misconducting”?

Misconduct-improper conduct; wrong behavior.

That’s what many people got a 24 hour ban for today. Sadly, there’s a main reason why they were all banned. I was on Basil today (Yes, I like to Basil) when I saw all these posts about people getting banned. As I read them all, most of them had mentioned about being leech or giving him/herself leech.

A reason about this… was well… yeah giving leeches. Is Nexon taking leeching seriously? Who knows but just beware that getting leech could lead to a ban as we might know of.

Schools Out Summer Events Still Going On!

If you haven’t already seen our awesome Schools Out! Summer Events then you must have been living under a rock the past few weeks! Our fanfiction event has concluded, but there is still 9 days left for the banner event and 19 days left for the video spot event!

Hackerphobia?

Since the Maple Leaf Watch people from yesterday, lot of people complained about being hacked in an unusual way:

1. You are asked to trade in one of the FM rooms.
2. Once you go in, you disconnect and you go back to the login page.
3. You try to log in but it says someone is on your account.
4. Next thing you know, you log on a mule and you find your main either dropping the equips, being stripped naked, riches being snatched, etc etc etc.

There has not been proof shown if this is real or not, but people over at BasilMarket are still talking about it. Apparantly, the targets are “very rich people who look like they are very rich”. (RICH, I SAY!)

When I was browsing through some of the topic, an interesting question was asked:

“What if these aren’t FM hackers, but instead people paid by Nexon. With the threat of being robbed just by entering a map, people will panic and rush to the cash shop to buy item-locks [coincidentally just added, I might add]. With this, nexon will have a boost in cash shop sales that was not expected(or was it), because Item locks are kind of useless(no offense to anyone who uses them). While I don’t think this is what happened at all, it was an interesting idea that one of my friends brought u and I expanded.”

Well that does bring a good question in mind. Is it really Nexon doing all this? Others say it was the Maple Leaf Watch abusing their powers. We might not know, untill time tells us.

Also, my friend Robin told me that these hacks are packet-edited.
(What’s his proof? Friends of the Dark Side.)

This hasn’t been confirmed if it IS true or not.
Maybe people are joking around about this, panicing others. Possibly people are doing this for a rollback.

Shadow Goes On A Firing Rampage After Fears of Disloyalty

Someone close to the action who wishes to remain anonymous tells Maple-News.com that the recent fears of disloyalty amongst the DestinyMS staff are driving Shadow to the brink of insanity. Rumor has it that the current downtime on their site is not due to a DDoS attack, but to give Shadow time to weed out the moles in his staff. Has he gone to such lengths as to shut down the server for the purpose of finding out who in his staff are disloyal?

Shadow has been known to lie in the past about the legality of his server in the Netherlands. What is really happening to his crumbling empire? Are things going south? Is his real destiny failure? We can only speculate at this point.

Tryst of DestinyMS Now Working With Lloyd Korn

Tryst, a GM (Game Master) of DestinyMS, was caught dropping illegitimate items in the DestinyMS private server leading to her prompt demotion. She later packet edited which she was finally banned for. Tryst threatened to do ‘bad things’ to DestinyMS. It is not confirmed whether she is the cause of the recent DDOS attack on DestinyMS’ website.

It is confirmed that Tryst has now joined Lloyd Korn, NEXON America’s General Counsel, in the fight against private servers. This could be detrimental to Duncan (Shadow), the owner of DestinyMS who is rumored to be experiencing symptoms of paranoia, considering she was a Game Master and most likely knew much about what went on in DestinyMS. How long can DestinyMS keep things up until their time runs out?
