Sammy was supposed to run along Haile gebresellasie in Germany, which could result in a new world record. He had finished in beijing at 2 hours 6 mins and 32 sec which is incredible for the heat and terrain in china. His death means one gold medal less in London marathon for Kenya.

Marathon world record holder Haile expressed shock over his death, and concern if Althletic fraternity could have avoided it.

But what led to his death is exactly unknown as it could be that he attempted suicide or he could have jumped out of the balcony over rage. Its heard that his wife had found him in bed with another women and she had locked him up.

Not something everyone can do, but this blogger can and does

After long when i searched for longdistancerun on google i happened to see go through the search result description on the search result page and this is what i found on this link.
This is where i ran my First long distanace after a runnersblock and that was in 2007.

This 10km walk is an achievement as i managed to get the company of my wife to do it.Infact this was done for her, rather to bring her into the circuit.

We reached the spot where Hyderabad 10K run begins and parked my bike and then strolled through the exhibition on the ..... grounds and slowly began the walk and we walked on the road and slid to the pathways around the lake whenever we could and went on but by around 4kms, priya was expressing uneasiness but i tried my best to inspire, motivate, encourage and demand as well to go ahead and it went on by the time we reached past 5kms she was getting angry and she wanted to sit and rest and i kept postponing the recess and continued to move, as distance was being covered she was fuming and she had a lot to complain and there were threats of sending the complaint across to my in-laws, to which i pleaded her not to.

I tried my best to convince her about the achievement of completing a 10km walk and coninued after about 6km by the vicinity of marriotts hotel we had our first halt for about 10 mins on a roadside bench and i tired to get close to my fuming wife who asked me to keep distance and asked why this punishment. For a while i thought it was the end of the venture.

After sometime i managed to get her back on her feet and we walked when she requested for an auto, which was being requested ever since she crossed 4kms while i tried to convince her about the achievement and also that we were almost nearing the end. When i looked across i could spot prasad/imax behind the bhuddha statue in the lake, while i knew that we had around 3 kms to walk and each km to her would be like 100 kms to me as she was not mentally willing to do.

I went ahead trying to move ahead further towards the target and it went on until the mirage of line of sight and actual road was deciphered by her around the ntr gardens, but my uncharming attempts to encourage her continued. We reached the junction around prasads but it was not the finishing point as we had to go another few hundred meters ahead, when she requested me to bring the bike back while she waited at the junction as before i managed to get her moving and we reached the parking lot opposite the ground and i declared that we achieved 10kms walk was complete.

Later she began to accept that as a completion of a errand.I need to ask her today (after a week) how she felt about it.I intended to have her run the hyderabad 10k 2010 which is likely to be on last weekend of november.

I began to wonder whether our tastes would meet.
I intend to roam around india date not fixed.
I also intend to roam around the world in 2013 hopefully if i earn enough.

The future of mumbai marathon and the greatest race on earth.

Lately i happen to hear about the scrapping of Standard charted mumbai marathon (scmm),Airtel delhi half marathon, and Sunfeast bangalore 10k run, it wasn't exactly scrapping of mumbai marathon, instead it was about revenue shares between the present organizer procam international and AFI and it appears that AFI has demanded greater share in profits actually greater fee for endorsement of the event.

It appears that the rift between the two is likely to bring a stalemate on the event.

The Bangalore 10K race is the first casualty. The AFI has already withdrawn its support for the May 23 event. The reason cited is the timing of the event, which coincides with the ongoing Open National Championships in Kochi and the preparatory camp for the Commonwealth Games.

AFI general secretary Lalit Bhanot has warned the Indian athletes against participating in the race. “If any of them takes part, we will suspend them. They will not be allowed to take part in CWG,” Bhanot said.

“For now, we are concerned about the Bangalore race. However, the other races will soon come under the scanner. If things don’t get more transparent, we will see to it that the Mumbai as well as the Delhi events don’t take place,” Bhanot threatened.

Bhanot said they want to float fresh tenders to give new companies a chance to conduct the marathons. “Our general body has demanded that fresh tenders be issued to decide the cities that host the marathon and the company that organises it. Why just have two or three cities?”

However procam is not ready to budge and they are planning for retaliation.

Procam, however, maintains that the races were conceived and conducted by them. “After realising that Mumbai Marathon is a global hit, the AFI wants to make it their property. They want to auction off something they don’t own. We won’t let that happen,” said Vivek Singh, joint MD, Procam.

While Singh said that the AFI isn’t technically empowered to scrap the races — as they are recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations — he realises that the AFI can cause hindrance by not allowing Indian athletes to participate. “If they do any such thing, we will use the full extent of the law to safeguard the races, which are our property,” he added.

The above information has been collected from www.dnaindia.com

However there is emergence of IISS (India International Sports Summit), and they are coming up with greater projects and i guess they need to wipe out competition and take over most of these successfully running events.Transfer of organizing may lead to hike in registration fee for athletes and overall a more costlier affair.

If Mumbai marathon were to be scrapped of , as standard chartered is already scrapping of from the greatest race what would be the future of it ? would it be run by another organizer with a different sponsor as in case of hutch delhi half marathon to airtel delhi half marathon.

Can any of these reduce the registration fee for the self financed runners.

IIT Kanpur is holding a Golden Jubilee Ultra Marathon on Feb 21st 2010.
All details are present on their Website

I have planned to do this as i have boycotted Both Delhi and Mumbai Marathons due to hike in their registration fees.

Practice has just begun, I planned to do the 50Kms. It will be a Good experience to be there at IIT Kanpur and to do a 50Km run there would be even Better.

I am still not sure if i would be able to do as i am yet to find a student or alumni of IIT Kanpur to register me for the Event.

Delhi Half Marathon

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT9ohHGqq-8T6yDfOQ38WVOsZJDW_GT5k5ngGZSoQGeNoy0MGDza0gnUhf9G10Yfo3LX28B6AC-nqKGhhUshmnoZ4VqVi4Pu-j2sPLypqU_va8255USbyJnzS8nrYs0wmYs5pBNCYMNXMm/s400/AIRF1177a-dl_cert20x30.tmpl.jpeg"
I have decided to run the IIT Kanpur Golden Jubilee 50Km Ultra Marathon.

Jan 10th

I had been there to the Mumbai Marathon Expo 2010.
This year the speciality was Vertical infinity

Ventical Infinity is a motorised climbing wall whose slope can be altered ie below 90 degree or above 90 degree which is like clinging on to the slope while

climbing.

There was also a stall while distributed the leaflets of comrades marathon
Apparently the stall was put up by amit sheth who has already done a comrades marathon and he already has 11 people this year.Registrations are open for 2011.
Trichur by foot

I am planning to do walk from cochin to trichur on saturday the 4th of April.I have the confidence of having finished <a one district to another. Why am i doing it , just for the sake of achieving it or as what some say my madness.Hoping all goes well i make this announcement.

4th April

As usual before the event there is monkey trying to persuade you to quit, this time the reason is cochin to alwaye bypass would be around 16kms and alwaye to trichur is 66 kms so its not another pushing limits instance so why not call off.

I have my mumbai marathon sling bag ready with a pack of glucose and my company id , if highway patrol bothers me, pan card , Mumbai Marathon BiB and i plan to carry along a pack of biscuits and a bottle or water.

Yesterday i made the announcement as announcing as possible by pinging everyone on gtalk, most wanted to know if i am alright, but a high school friend found it intresting , i am not sure if she was mocking me by saying it is intresting.

awaiting for 4:00pm

April 6th

I couldn't update the blog earlier.

I started the walk @ 4:00pm on saturday as i had intended and reached home @ 8:50am sunday thus completed the distance in 16 hours and 50 minutes.

I had a parchement on which i had scribbled the time at most common locations but strange things do happen in life, my clothes soiled in sweat was dumped into the washing machine which had this parchemnt, creditcards,Ipod, cash,Mobile Sim card, luckily not the mobile,Subhan allah.

I will have to recollect the timings and then do the blog.

April 6th 5:30pm

after a little of recalling the experience i hereby begin to put it on blog.At sharp 4:00pm i left and started to walk with a bottle of Cold water in Hand and a sling bag on my shoulders i continued to walk through the footpath and road and often crossing the junctions as there are many from Ravipuram to starting of MG Road it was 4:30 when i reached there i don't know the exact distance but speed must have been slow as i had to move through the traffic and cross the junction and more i continued to i had to go under the bridge at around north railway station and by the time i reached rbi i had noted the timing on the parchment i was carying but i am unable to recollect the precise timing kept moving to reach kalloor bus stand and then junction followed by deshabhimani junction, edapilly by now i felt a slight strain a kind of effect of warm up, or that is what i wanted to belive as journey had just begun i am only around the starting point but at edapilly bypass i saw the Distance marking on the arches it read 78 so that meant 78 kms to go + mannuthy to home another 6 kms , i wanted to belive that distance between vytilla bypass and ravipuram junction would be atleast 12 kms , questioning and answering this in mind i continued to walk and walk sling bag shifted from my shoulder to my fist and a mouth full of water was occasionally consumed and it went on and on fianlly to reach alwaye bypass by 7:15 pm and then continued to past parambayam and on.Before the Airport Junction i saw a place where they were selling juice i asked them what they had ? only thing which appeared fine to me was grape , i ordered for a glass of it from the begining they were offering to add sugar as i had no time to waste i rushed to take a sip, i spat out and emptied the glass immediately as it was made from overripe or rotten grapes i offered him the money and he was asking if i wanted more sugar i replied its not about sugar , and asked him to pay the balance immediately as i was later, something made him to refund and i continued to walk but airport was like a mirage and i kept walking walked past the airport now it was it was around 8:xx pm i suppose (i told you about the parchment) for some odd reason i expected angamaly town to be very near to airport and i was experiencing the mirage , at every corner or point where the end was not visible i expected the amgamaly junction but it was not that easy and i continued to be disappointed again and again but yet focusing on the speed i was by now experiencing tiredness on my legs but i was nowhere near the half way so i continued it did not matter if i felt fatigue or pain reaching home in trichur was the destination but a calculation to be active needed a dinner so when i reached angamaly by around 9:15 pm i gave myself a 25 mins to have two porottas with curry and to refil my water bottle with glucose and water and continued to walk to the next milestone of chalakkudy, roads were bad and often or very often there was no street lights and where ever there was parapit on the road side i utilised them for safety as i remembered the warnings not to do it due to lack of safety from the traffic, but that was not reason enough for me to stop and so i set forth but now things were quite alarming as there were trucks on roadsides and as i walked past some just took of now i was tired and i kept walking but it was difficult to stop or to speed up, its a state you would experience when you walk a lot it is no nirvana or salvation but you loose control to a small extent and by now i was already experiencing chaffing despite using nylon swimming trunk

but i just couldn't think about calling off for such petty petty issues to gather myself to do this again would be very difficult so its better to endure or crawl or ... on this attempt that think about another chance rehearsal or any other reason to stop this.... i was near chalakudy the signboard near potta read 32 kms it really was a delight , only 32 more kms now with a energy that sprung up when i knew i was nearer i was detemined to make it i continued i reached chalakudy junction at around 12:15am so i estimated that i could reach home by around 4:00 am or 5:00 am unlike the 10 :00 am that i anticipated so i continued for sometime i had been hoping to find a bottle of icecold drinking water as i was thirsty and tired but there were roadside stalls selling tea not water one of them had soda but not cold, to me it was water water everywhere but not a single drop to drink. walking continued and occasionally stopped to take rest for a few seconds i reached around a sign board which read 21 kms and then on somewhere out there i spotted a shop where there was water but it was frozen. :) i fled from there i was around amballur by now i was experiencing sever pain on my ankle and i was limping i had received a few calls from home and they offered to take me home or if necessary to bring water or tender coconut as it is assumed to be very refreshing when you are tired or in fatigue , i declined and continued to walk maybe by now speed had gone down to 3km/hr unlike the average of 6.5 km/hr or lowest of it @ 5km/hr and next milestone of mannuthy rather seemed to far and almost on the verge of giving up but to do all this again , i found the refuge of a petrol bunk from where i got cold drinking water ,i drank as much as i could and also poured on my right ankle and then contniued , i had no choice but to finish it, as there was something else in mind which depended on this thus i staggered, limped and dragged myself as i had to reach my target pain on leg was so intense and i could not move my foot i could move my right leg not the foot, finally i reached mannuthy and it was 7:15 am now it was just about reaching home on about 4 occasions i sat to rest and continued but i the time i reached the last two kilometers it was around 8:30 and i was racing hard with my strained legs to reach before 8:45 by now the pain was subsiding but i couldn't be faster, i was around the police academy by 8:45 when i got the last call from home when i replied i was nearby and finally reached my gates to see 8:51....

A dream accomplished - City to City / Cochin to Trichur ,

but this was the most enduring of all things i have done so far, though less than the 106kms in hyderabad, it was tougher.

many more to accomplish, an ironman 70.3 miles, scaling everest, marathon des sables, some may remain dreams, but i have done a few things which many have not dared to ,

my madness continues ... but my mind is stable and in control, maybe i can dare to do a few things others can't.

Its all about breaking a mind barrier, i wish to go back to kasaragod to settle an old score, and also see if there are ways to sort out at tirur.

Adios

Hastas luego

Zanil Hyder.

noreply@blogger.com What seemed difficult to complete yesterday is now done . As they say you get courage after doing.I had done the Mumbai Full Marathon 2008 last year but yet i was unsure of completing it , i had been practising for this marathon immediately after the Hyderabad half marathon 2008

but i have not yet prepared a blog on my preparation for the Mumbai marathon 2009 like the one i did on preparation for Mumbai marathon 2008 but i will be doing it based on the memory i have about my training sessions.

I had arrived in Mumbai by Friday evening by nethravati express in general compartment, I don't wish to write a 5 page blog on that experience any way travelling for around 26 hours in general compartment is tough especially at this time as trains are dumped with people. I took the courage to do this as i did manage to get in touch with my friend Thejas on thursday the 15th, then it was all about reaching mumbai everything after that can be taken for granted.

Thejas was there at the railway station to receive me with a lot of apologies for being late due to traffic congestions, from there we fled to WTC at cuffe parade to collect my bib but by the time we reached there it was past 7:20 and we did not make a futile attempt and was back at wtc on saturday to collect the BIB, CHIP and the Goodie bag, Bib appeared to be the same although the chip had changed from the one which was attached to your ankles in case of Mumbai marathon 2008 to a circular gadget which had to be fastened to your shoes and it was a one time only for a non refundable Rs 200/- , infact this year the registration was increased from 200/- to 300/-
thus an overall increase of Rs 300/- for the marathon in terms of registration and timing.
Goodie bag was filled with some really good things from Nivea and also some other things which included a very small tube of Volini pain reliever which was very useful for that night.

My last practice was on wednesday the 14th during which i ran for about 3 hours and 15 mins non stop. after that i had decided to rest , but perhaps the journey in general compartment from trichur to mumbai also took its toll and in the evening i was massaging my legs and also had a pain killer, i did set the alarm for 5:00 o'clock i woke up multiple times during my sleep including at 4:57 got ready and my friend dropped me at near azad maidan around 6:15 or so , i left my bag in the baggage counter and went to the collecting area which had all the half marathoners and also some Full marathoners and waited there for the Door to open and then there was a rush to be in front, else it is a bad start and then continued to move by the time we reached the starting point it was 6:46:xx and there was considerable number of people before me, may be they never entered the collecting area and were starting from the CST itself.

As i started to run unlike Hyderabad half marathon 2008 i did not try the burst and pushing your limits as it did not appeal to me, but this time i was running with the mobile in my hand and intention was to run at a steady pace and keep that on to the end. I kept running and overtaking people on the run and i saw the mark 1km when i counted 1 down and 41 more to go but already i felt dryness in my mouth and thus my intention of running without water was quashed even before i attempted crowd reduced as i kept wading through them to come across 2km when i checked the timing on my mobile , but i did not check time at the starting point , but i chose to take it as 5:30 as my mobile time was incorrect and i had done a correction to the possible time at starting point by assuming 5:30 and continued through run past many and now the crowd was getting less denser than before ran past 3km and so on until i reached 5km mark when it was approximated to 30 mins and that was fine , a steady pace of slightly over 10 km/hr and a final burst rather breakout gave me a hope to a sub 4 hour hours, which did not happen.

This year in the initial phase of the marathon they were supplying electrol packets and not electrol mixed in water which meant that you had to throw them off eating electrol powder or glucose from your hand or packet while running is not a good idea as during my school days it went into my nose when i was taking glucose while running. with a steady speed i still continued and even kept the tempo even at pedder road where the inclination starts and went on taking on its inclination and declination and then around this time it was probably surender raut was on his return with a half marathon bib this was when i was around the 8km mark and he was on his 16 kms i suppose it appeared to me as i am running on half his speed, that was estimated as they usually run on an average speed of 20 km/hr and i was trying on a 10 km/hr as i did not want to risk an incomplete marathon. continued to run and by 10 km mark i had taken near 1 hour and that seemed fine and i continued and after sometime the diversion for full marathoners and half marathoners appeared and i continued on my mission to complete this successfully.

by now milind soman was running around me and their was a applause and encouragement for him all throughout and some time he came close and then i continued to pace and so on, and it was like he was my pacesetter and this went on by the time it was 20 km mark the timing was around 7:26 which means less than 2 hours that gave hope to my intention of sub 4 hour marathon and i continued and was running towards the bandra reclamation when a banana was offered to me and there was nothing like it, as it not just about water when it comes to marathon
continued to run as i was about to reach the turning point at bandra reclamation there were SUV's beaming out there and it was the elite marathon runners the pack was out there and they ran past me i tried to trail behind them but trailing a 20km/hr runner by a 10 km/hr runner doesn't last long after some time the leading Indian runner ( not me ) the one who started at 7:40 as per actual marathon timing also ran past me and after some time it was the pack of women runners and so on i continued and by the time it was 30 kms i had taken 3 hours and it was fine but i recollected that it was at 31 kms that i had stopped during Mumbai marathon 2008

but i continued to run by now i was not able to touch the 6min for a km and i pushed myself to 33.5 kms and some where around that i backtracked to collect orange slices then milind had run past me and then kept moving but by around the 33.5 kms i was done with and started to walk although i wanted to run and i had intention to run nonstop.

I began to walk until 35km mark and then at the ascension of pedder road managed to start running again continued running and refused running, well now you are trying to gain control over yourself.

As per my recollection i went on like that till around 38 km and then walked for about 500mts and then again ran from 39 km to 40 km mark by now the heat was on and it was difficult to keep the pace more due to heat walked for sometime when it was the turn to CST from main road i started to run again as it was the ending phase and kept on crossed the 41km mark later on the 600 mts more and then the 200mts when i was sprinting in my mind for sure may be my legs were not doing exactly that but for sure i was running and pace was definitely higher than normal when i reached the finishing point it the clock showed 3:33:xx but i had started with the Half marathon runners so additional 55 minutes or 45 mins or whatever time it took for me to reach the starting point etc have to be added.

As i crossed the line i asked for help as i could not stand and there were no volunteers to do it there were some ready to offer water bottles, I asked them where do i have to report when they pointed to the direction of azad maidan , even despite requests then finally one of the officials i suppose asked a volunteer to take me to the azad maidan, but at the Medal and participation certificate counter i could barely stand and then i had to wait until they asked me for when the
girl out there scored on my bib after giving the medal and certificate, then i turned furious as i keep these bib as a memorablia when procam talk about keeping the timing chip as memorablia for a price of 200 bucks , when they scour on my bib it was unbearable, explanation was that it was a for one time use, but all this can be done behind the bib and not infront, even last year when i went to collect the deposit money of the chip they were about to write on it which i refused and made them write behind.

This time there was no place to rest unlike last year, These B*** don't know the strain a person has after running 42kms , in the scorching sun you can't lie down on azad maidan.

The participation certificate was handwritten and did not have the timing in it unlike last year.

Thus i have completed my second full marathon.
Feel much better although i had missed delhi half marathon 2008.

Hyderabad Half Marathon 2008.

You get courage after doing things. Today i feel better after doing the Hyderabad Half Marathon 2008 and i am looking forward to Mumbai Full Marathon 2009. I wanted to run this ever since i ran the Hyderabad 10K 2007 but as time goes by and other priorities take dominance you are unable to practice, not even mentally. you loose the determination and its difficult to run more than 3Kms Non stop without your determination. Delhi Half marathon was skipped due to ....... and the last practice that i have done was on nov 2nd above 50 rounds in Osmania grounds of which 36 i ran and 12 i walked and then dragged myself to another two rounds and since i did not favour me in the number of rounds i would have certainly done more. I had made up my mind to skip this as i did not practice nor there was anything motivating me to do it.But on Wednesday the 26th by a coincidence i happened to come across Ratnamala Rao my company Vice President who had earlier appreciated my successful completion of Mumbai full marathon. It happened that it was a eye to eye contact and i let out the fact that i am skipping the hyderabad 10k as i was not into practice. But she told me to collect the chip and run and i felt that i should and this influenced me to finally rush to people's plaza on necklace road to register for it to receive the Bib no :99 bought a track pant and found my friend robin's shoe arragements to reach necklace road was lathish's responsibility and it was a sleepless night when i was preparing myself to face the challenge.

I reached people's plaza by around 5:30 am and had my Bib on my T-shirt,but this year the crowd was lesser maybe because i was there earlier for the Half marathon and not 10k which starts late and has greater crowd. I did not get a chance to see the African stallions who are usually the heroes of such races, but army and police runners were there. After the initial address half marathon runners were asked to assemble before the Half marathon start line near the Gate 1 and there the line was done people just rushed in and Elite Athletes from army and police formed the front row which even had surender Bib no : 1 who had participated in Olympics and many other run machines were there at the line up along with a few who perhaps did not know how much a half marathon is there were two of them behind me with a bib of hyderabad 10k 2008but most were with the Red Bib with RFID tag of Hyderabad Half Marathon 2008.

Cameras were ready and retakes of presentators about start went again and again and occasionally the crowd of runners booed at them , and then finally the flag off happened and i took of in a few strides i was on the lead and then i kept the pace and i was leading and i kept the lead as i knew perfectly what i was doing, my intention was to burst and then keep pushing your endurance limits as there was no practice so do not bank upon stamina, and i suppose till the end of 1km i was on lead leading the run but now i said to myself 1 down 20 more to go , then a pack of athletes from army and rest went past by me and kept on as i ran through as time went by so called seasoned athletes ran past me but my intention was to run non stop kept track of the marking and at each i calculated the remaining the count went on but kept away from water it was around 6km mark i suppose when they offered orange and mosambi peels which i accepted and chew them and spat them when i spotted the 10km mark i paced a little to give myself a confidence of the 10km distance and thus it was 10 down and 11 more to go and kept myself non stop and that was the priority ran past around the charminar which was a desire after seeing a few photographs of elite athletes run around it from previous marathons. Continued to run but my leg spans were very small thus many ran past me but some i overtook as they started to walk occasionaly had water but by now i was exhausted i wanted something to eat and not drink
once i asked those serving water for anything to eat he showed me orange peels on other side of the road , but i continued to run i had a thousand monkeys trying to stop me from doing the non stop all throught and its felt more becuase there was no pratice earlier but out of sheer determination i kept my feet in motion and looked to see the next marking it went on until i saw the 2km more i ran past it and after sometime i walked for about 400 mts or so and then again i manged to get my feet in motion and by now i was along the necklace road and running past the lumbini park and on then again after the 1km more mark somewhere i had to walk for about 10mts and then again started to run until i saw the last 100 mts when i ran past many to cross the finish line when the volunteers rushed to cast their RFID bats on our Bib's but there was nothing to eat out there.

when you finish a half marathon first thing you wish to do is eat something. that is what i couldn't do as i did not have money with me and there was nothing on the part of organisers i asked a few people to buy me something to eat until finally i came across Mr Ravi who offered me a pack of chips and later some idly and bonda it was quite refreshing and he was my saviour.

I waited further there to see the prize distribution and hoping to collect the Timing certificate but i was told by people part of organisers that it would be updated later on website and as i was in fatigue i choose to sit in the stall along with some of them when i overheard one of them telling a person who inquired that the certificate would be send home, as the participant moved away this person was laughing along with others as though he has fooled someone.

In mumbai full marathon finishers within the stipulated time were given a Medal and a Timing certificate, and also fruits and biscuits but here there was nothing. It was very bad on the part of Organisers.

Thus Hyderabad Half Marathon 2008 was completed.

Haile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xGXPxJzeug&feature=related

Watch the latest videos on YouTube.com
<script type="text/javascript" With all this on a saturday night i made up my mind and started to achieve a feat for myself.

It was June 7th saturday night at 9:00 pm when i started along my usual Training route from Uppal to Cybergateway which goes via tarnaka - mettiguda - begumpet - lifestyle- and turn over to ameerpet - banjara hills - hitech city - cybergateway and return via the sameroute. i managed to reach cybergateway by around 1:00 am and then returned via the same route i reached back home at around 5:00 am to spend around 20 mins in consuming two pears and some water , i was tempted to stop and consider this as a pilot run for the comming saturday to perform the event in style but i knew that i had completed the 53kms and now every step i advance is advancing my personnel record. so i set of again but now there was tiredness but i still managed to walk on to reach near to paradise to have some water and then proceed and then i continued to walk from there and next stop for water was probably in ameerpet and somewhere close to Hitech city barista i had a tender coconut and then i proceeded again and walked further to have water after sometime and reached cybergateway.I proceeded from there occasionally i did sit-ups to relax my legs and i reached back to the same spot where i had tender coconut to have it again and then proceeded to reach Ameerpet to have water again and then somewhere around greenpark i had a bottle of toned milk from a super market and procceded to walk reached around paradise to have a milkshake during each of these instance of drinking i made a point to sit and relax my legs and then i carried myself to walk past tarnaka and finally reached home at around 3:00 pm to have myself with a achievement of walking past 100kms , 106kms to be Precise.

I dream to do a Ironman 70.3 Miles.
I have done Mumbai marathon, which was not possible as per the suggestions many gave me before and post registering. But swimming for 1.2 miles to 4.5 miles depending on the leg of the race is my concern.I have attempted to learn to swim so far i have only manged to paddle or dogswim for almost 30mts and manged 6.5 times of that length in 2 hours.
I had dedicated myself to Mumbai marathon which i did complete and which i did Nonstop for 31Kms and as per the timing certificate i had completed 21kms in less than 2 hours.
I am looking forward to Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon , hope to do it well.

Preparation for Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon

After the completion of Mumbai Marathon i had regained myself to set foot for the VDHM as it is also called.
But for almost 3 months i did not do any practice due to various reasons.
Almost exactly after 3months i did run for about 10 mins on the treadmill. Probably on April 21st or so.
This week i have managed to get back.
Yesterday the 14 th may i did run for 30 mins.
6 min @ 11.X km/hr and then another 25 min again around that speed.
Today the 15th may i did run for 30 mins
15mins @ 12.7 km/hr and then another 15 min again @ 12.7km/hr
not in a postion to run @ 15km /hr and peak it up to 20km /hr.

I need to set the factors on which to improve the run.
There is time for Practive as it is in October. But to be in focus for that long is really tough.

Day before yesterday 20th may
I ran for 30 mins @ 12.7 km /hr non stop.
but yesterday and today no runs.
July 28th
After long time....
there was a 106km walk on june 7th and there was a 1 month attempt to learn swimming.
30 mins on the treadmill ie 23min and 42sec @ around 12km/hr and then again another 7min and 30 sec again on around 12km/hr.

July 30th
spend around 20 mins on jogger, treadmill was not working thus limited it to skipping for a few minutes.

Aug 7th
spend around 15 mins on jogger, treadmill for about 30 min through multiple sessions, there is a significant effect of loss of stamina.

Sep 25th
Much of the practices have not been updated so far. Nothing significant but thre has been few attempts on the tread mill which even caused injury on my knee.
and running on treadmill was substituted by using the stepper, and stepper was used for around 90mins in a stretch and so on.

On Sep22nd i had managed to run for 10 mins on the treadmill at 15km/hr and yesterday the sep 24th i failed to keepup even to that low.
I gasped each time i reacched 4mins or even lesser but i did in 4 sessions of 4mins, 4mins, 2mins and 4 mins and at the end of it when i was coming out of the gym i found myself locked in it, and there was a verbal battle with the security for locking me in , and it even led me to meet his supervisor and complain about him.
To run the 21km strech in delhi i need to get back atleast the the extent that i was when i did the training for mumbai.

Unlike while training for mumbai ligament injury is not the constraint, i am unable to maintain the stamina which i once had, the stamina and determination which i had when i did the 212km in 4 days, which includes a day when i walked barefooted on newly tarred road from cybergateway to uppal.

After months i was on chat with a friend of mine on Gtalk when she asked me about the pratice, at the time i wished if i had done it.I also remember the decision to run the Delhi Half marathon post the mumbai marathon experiecence, but till date i have not registered for delhi and i am not sure about my fitness to do it in grace.

I need to get myself trained to gallop for 90 mins, but it should be GALLOP,and NOT dragging of limbs.

SEP 26th
I have managed to run for a total of 30 mins on the treadmill in 5 attempts first a 10 mins then some cycling, leg press and again 5mins on treadmill followed by cycling and a 5mins on treadmill repeated this for another 2 more attempts of 5 mins sessions.

During the preparation for Mumbai practice was much more strenuous, with the conquest of completing the mumabi full marathon i felt that it was mind barrier.
but as of now may be i am not strong willed enough to do it, may be i should try to do the 106 kms once again to check the endurance.

but today the endurance is about running than walking.

OCT 18th
After long time once again today i mustered courage to take a plunge into running again.
I ran at a speed of around 15km/hr for about 10 mins and then for 10mins i walked, ran ,walked to finish that and then again i repeated the walk, run, walk for 10 mins which was 3mins and 30 sec and another 6 mins and 30 sec.... and then again a final 10 mins of walking ....

with the marathon around the corner i am still unable to get myself the way i was before.

I once completed the Mumbai Full Marathon.... will i do it again ?

Oct 30th.
I managed to run for about 12 min @ 15.2km \hr ie was until the security came knocking and requesting for locking the gym.

Nov 2nd
I have been to Osmania University grounds and ran 36 rounds and walked 14 rounds to complete 50 rounds in the osmania university athletic ground.

Nov 3rd
whole body is aching particulary mascular pain, but what i am worried about is the pain on the knees. which has different implication, muscular pain vanishes in a few days but not the pain on the knees.

Nov 9th
by around 6th i was convinced that i will not be able to make it to delhi, but yet i was hopefull. But now @ 8:15 am today i have come to the reality that i am not running it.

chest number 6601 is still with the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon or Procam Intl authorities.

Striving for Perfection

To complete a Marathon would mean surpassing a level of Endurance. There are various forms of pains ,distractions and overcoming excuses.Pain can range from muscular pain ,ligament injury, pain on the pelvic, knee, ankle, front foot, back foot , Heel, sole of the feet, also pain on the shoulders , and arms .But there are many who overcome these with Goodwill and determination. I have always believed that Mind training to break the mind barriers is very important and i preffered to begin with that.

I have heard about the intresting 10% Theory.

Quite often when people visit a Gym they drop out due to reasons from tracksuits to shoes and tiredness, but people who are not concerned of these tend to stay longer.

Similarly people who focus a lot on speed and stamina fail out while those who are determined to crawl towards the finish line does it.But here its not just determination according to me its about training your mind and yourself that its not going to be a bed of roses but walk above burning coal.

This is all about completion of a marathon.
but to reach perfection its about getting the right actions so as to gain on time and energy.

A log sheet would always be good to keep improving your performance, there by 10% theory can also be applied.

Running has the benefits of Good Health.

Preparation for Mumbai Marathon 2008

Mumbai Full Marathon 2008 I had completed the Hyderabad 10k on 25th November in 45 Mins which was an achievement to me for the fact that i had returned to long distance run after 13 years and i had run the 10km with a Sprained Knee , a fall during the run and the last lap sprint on the Green carpet to finish the race made me feel that i could do better ,to associate myself with long distance run was inspiring . Above all i was the first from my group thus inspirations, ambitions, deteminations rise and i made a vow to run the Famed Mumbai Marathon. This decision was taken in less than an hour after completing the hyderabad 10k.For almost 2 days i had pain on my right knee and it continued but the pain was not felt while walking and the pain while running continued several days including the eve of Mumbai Marathon.I began to search for details from the net when i came across the official website of Mumbai Marathon and checked for the details and i planned to run the Mumbai Full Marathon. On the 4th December i walked 45 kms ie Secunderabad to Cybergateway and returned from Cybergateway via Secunderabad to Uppal to complete a total of 45 Kms, This was a endurance test but I did not run to avoid further injury to my Knee. But about Registration i thought i would do later as i wanted to run the 43K or 26miles or popular Mumbai Full Marathon. But 43K run is easy to say than do it so there was a inclination to skip to 21K or Half Marathon but i was informed by my Colleague Umesh Rane on 6th Dec that the last date for registration is on 8th Dec and also informed me that Registration is not a sureity to a Confirmed Entry. It was a Hard decision making with Rane suggesting me to enrol for Half Marathon instead of Full Marathon and cautioned me about difficulties in running after 20Kms but i was inclined to and i madeup my mind to register for 43K on 6th dec itself and registerd online identification number 270067543 and i received a reply with the identification number 270067543 they mentioned to check the entry status post Dec 15th. The email showed the countdown 045:05:13:06 days/hours/minutes/seconds .After that i did workout in the Gym on the Treadmill by walking on its Highest grade 20 at speed of 6.5 km and infact on 6th i walked on the treadmill for a total of 2hrs 15 mins on almost entirely on grade 20 and almost entirely on 6.5 Km speed , but i had read about fierce warriors doing 300 Kms a week and 6 days a week they were from the Army and they were also registerd for http://www.thegreatestrace.com/ , but all i wish to say is it don't scare me , I will run.Past few days i have not done anything, solely for a quick Knee recovery.I have been closely watching the countdown now it is 038:04:10:30 days/hours/minutes/seconds. Now my practice is more by reading the blogs and surfing the net on Mumbai Marathon and consuming 'citrus' for the Ligaments to recover. I drank citric acid in its concentrated form with sugar it was hard to swallow.I wish to run the Mumabi Full Marathon 2008I hope to update the Blog with further details on my practice post 15th Dec.Fellow runners do update me about .......On Today the 13th dec when i was out to have my dinner i happened to come across the Senior officials to whom i report to my Hyderabad10k In 45min has brought me fame।And as usual i expressed my intention to run the Mumbai Full Marathon 2008. These days i have been replying to everyone on orkut or Gmail about my intention to Run the Mumbai Full Marathon 2008 , i guess i have had more publicity than i deserve at this point of time. Like a prayer i write here " i hope my Pelvic, knees, and ankles are strong enough to endure the run of 43Kms and i Hope to do my 45 Km walk on sunday the 16th and ....." I need to do it to save myself from disappointing of my wellwishers.I have registered on the Delhi runners Group a mailing group.15th Dec and 16th Dec was two bad days as after resting for for almost two weeks and havind my legs to be comfortable for walking and climbing stairs i had to do a little of Footboard travelling and it wa on One foot that has brought things back to square One but i decided to go ahead after continuing with the foot relaxing posture and swallowing concentrated Lemon extract .....
I had my french 3rd level exam on 16th
My French Exam - Quelle catastrophe
Target 300+ Km in 6 days a week
On Dec 17th @ 4:00 am i started my rigourous practice to Walk a 53 Km. I walked from Survey of India Uppal to Cybergateway and back thus a Total of 53 Km in 7 Hours and 45 Mins. But this Time there was no bag on my Shoulders and when i checked my Timing @ secunderabad it was only 6 hours and 45 mins for the approximately 43 Kms.Now i will wish to push this speed of 7.5 Kms/Hr to 8.x Km/hr and in this week i should do 6 days a week and around 318 Kms.Once my Knee is recovered i should be able to get my runnning speed to anything between 2.5 times to 3 times my walking speed. On Dec 18th @ 4:00 i started to repeat the previous experience with a change of Shoes but that did not help much instead my timing went down to 8hours :45 Mins but @ the 43Km mark it was almost 6hours and 50 or so,but it delayed to reach the 53Km.I also happened to meet Dr Rama , in about 1 hour i would be starting my next journey and on completing i would be meeting him again, there should be something that i could do to my leg to RUN the Mumbai MarathonOn 19th Dec my experience was fine in reaching upto Cyber gateway I reached there in almost 3 hours and 50 mins thus touching the First day speed ,but hell broke Loose as I had to walk Barefooted due to a shoe bite i had Blisters formed on my toe abd the Right Sole was paining as though loosing my foot structure.
Return journey on barefoot was an experience of a Lifetime.Barefooted journey from Cyber Towers to Uppal which comprised of freshly tarred road with small sharp stones .They are no Good for a barefoot pedestrian as these small rocks poke the soles of your feet and sometimes even stick to it making it a more strenuous excercise as you have to clear your feet occasionaly. On occasions i did feel pain that made me stop and shake my legs i finally reached in 9hours : 45 minsBut a Feat of walking 26 Kms on Barefoot was accomplished. In around 1 Hour my next attempt would begin.20th Dec I started @ 3:00 pm to reach Cybergateway in 3 Hours : 48 Mins but the starting point was changed thus about 1/2Km was lesser. but on Return it turned out to be 9hours : 30 Mins , and a remarkable observation is made since 18th on return there have been pain on the Heel or Sole of the Feet, 18th it was thought that it could be due to change of shoes, and 19th again. But then shoe was thought of as the reason , and shoe was changed but now it is assumed that it could be else probably overworked feet. The pain was severe , i am constrained to take rest for the following day and the pain on the knee has surfaced again which had been the biggest obstacle since the begining.Pain so intensive that i am to led to think that i may not be able to run on Monday as per my schedule. Thus 21st dec Walk schedule was not done, with BakrI'd as a reason to excuse, and i admit my leg is awfully painful at the Heel and it is difficult to take a step as well.22nd Dec My leg show no signs of recovery. I am willing to drag my leg or Hop the distance but that is not the feat that i am lookgin for after all i had walked a distance of 26Kms barefoot on 19th. That has left its impression in its own way as even today there are tiny stones and tar or soot remaining on my leg even after repeated cleaning, as a practice after finishing the walk i make it a practice to wash my legs which includes the thighs, shin and foot in cold water, at the moment since it is winter i am delivered Ice-cold water free of charge.I wish to ponder over the Technical Strategy in doing the run.Mental fitness i pass with Flashing colours or outstanding results as per my evaluations.
I have done the 53kms repeatedly at 3:00 am in the morning in Hyderabad winter.Physical fitnessI have already walked 45 Kms twice and 53Kms four times on continuous days.So i would certainly complete the race.Would i comlplete the whole race running ?There are people who run much of it and then walk a small portion, or significant portion. That would determine the Time to complete the race and your position in the overall ranking.Would i complete the whole race on a Non stop ?To my observation non stop is better than the so called Run followed by walk and repeating that cycle in a loop to till the finish line.I give a better probability for non stop at constant pace than run and walk or its superlative form of Sprint and walk.I hope to introduce a form of sprint and stroke - sprint would be to run at full speed while stroke would be to use max leg span. There is another serious alarming issue. Before the run i drink water, i wish to say i drink a lot of water - i hope i am.That result in a tendency to urinate after about 30 Kms or so it is often during the return 26km that i face this.So if i run fast enough so that the race is covered before the 3Hours : 45Mins i can avoid this situation.how do i cover the uphill and downhillDown hill should be utilised throught speed and stride. While Uphill by Stride but how to prevent being Exhausted.Today i buried my boycott of MNC brands like Nike, Reebok, Addidas etc however unable to get to a conclusion as the range of shoes goes upto 5,***/-, 6,***/- and even 7,***/- somehow those in the range of around 3***/- seems less impresive after seeing the higher end, and now there is a consious pricking issue on bargains and intention is to buy the best and not to save on cost.25th DecemberTroubles change the Dimension , pain on my knee is less prominent but there is a undeniable,Unpretendable pain on my Heel or Soul of my Right Foot.I have been Dipping my feet in Cold Water during the past few days but the pain does not give away. Now my Mind is Troubled the willpower to Overcome the performance barrier are Squeezed to a point where i accept that it requires practice in systematic order as prescribed by those Gurus of Training. But i covered 212 Km walking in Four Days,if these pains had not attacked me i would have done. This is like a Morally crushing before the Battle.I need to fight against Time by Speed and also against Pain.28th Decemberno signs of recovery nor any further efforts to practice. It appears to me that it I may not be able to make it30th DecemberThere are no pains in walking, but i dare not try running to avoid further injury before complete recovery.2nd JanuaryI was pinged on sametime in office by my friend asking me about the state of afffairs about my run.If i do not run.i will be let down my well wishers.I need to run for them.7th JanuaryI did some work out on the Treadmill after around two weeks, a 10min run @12.5 Km/hr and another 1.5 minutes @ 20Km/hr, the determination with which i walked from Uppal to Cyber gateway and back is not there and there is a continuos fear of pain on my Leg.8th JanuaryToday i repeated the Workout on Treadmil though with a fear about strainming my leg .20mins @12.5Km/hr and another few seconds on 20Km/hr there is stiffening of the muscles which is ok , but i hope that does not reach my ligaments.
9th January
A i had targetted to Run 1hour @ 12.5 Km/hr and another 10mins @ 20Km/hr
but i did the 1hour with with 12.5Km /hr runs and walked @6.5km/hr for 50mins and then stopped to drink water and did another 10mins with walk and run there was also short burst of 20km/hr for a few times.
Good resons give way to better reasons.
Pain on my knee is not prominent but as i mentioned before there is fear about it in every step.but now pain on my heel is dominating, previously i stopped the practice because of it.and that gave a gap from 22nd dec to 7th Dec.
Atleast i have a pain to blame else what would i do ? I least want to say i can't do it.
I will Run the Mumbai Full Marathon after so much of hardwork i cannot turnback.
but today's run makes me think about changing the strategy run and walk , or Run , run slow , Run. but how can i include the Bursts of sprint into it and do the race on non stop.I believe non stop is important. But cooling or resting methods without stopping should be adopted.
so close but so far away it is not all that difficult if i want to break that barrier.
There is a lot of expectaion in doing a good run in mumbai marathon.
I had a brief chat with Dr rama krisha who mentioned about plantar fascites - a membrane or cartilage sort of covering over the heal which can get injured in case of athletes especially runners.
10th January
Pain on my heel kept me away from practice.I am on pain killer but i did not feel the pain on my Knee I hope that is healed.
Plantar fascitis is the new concern
11th January
Today i did Run / Walk together for 2.5 hours with a Speed of 13.0 km/hr to begin with and there was a lot of walking as well @ 6.5 and by the end the speed while running went from 13.0 to 13.4 and further to 14.0 and finally @15.0 Km/hr.and i managed to stay on the treadmill for 2.5 hours. But i am unable to do the Non Stop which was my strength.
there were times when it was impressive but on the whole i need to improve further. Now i feel that the time is insufficient.
There are also pain on my heel and on my knee but they are not alarming as before.
I wanted to take the pain killers to keep myself fit for the race, but unfortunately the office shift and other things around does not let me do the warm water massage for my legs and to have pain killer.
12th january
There is light pain on my heels , there is musular strain but muscular strain is expected of the 2.5 km Run yesterday,i may needed the pain killers.
I am heading for a company get together so even the hope of doing the practice @ night is ruled out.
I was rewarded by a momento by Warun nayar during the Townhall. When i recall about the factor that inspired me to commit to running hyderabad10k - Warun nayar was a factor behind me running the Hyderabad10k 2007 although i had an intention to run in 2005 , in warun's language monkey kept me away from running. Reasons are many from Good shoes, tracksuit, practice to ...........
Warun nayar is famed for his initiatives like Anti smoking Campaign , Fitness @ IT services and many more. For some reasons his initiatives and his famed powerpoint presentations are Inspiring and has resulted in fellow employees making an effort to quit smoking and an improvement in attendance in the Gym.
13th January (Sunday)
There was no practice which was done on sunday other than some stretch excercise.
14th january
another day of disaster , there was slight pain on the knee thus i could not do my rigourous practice that i had planned for the last week myself.
15th january
I did a workout on the treadmill for about 31 minutes non stop except for water after 10mins and 20 mins and speeds between 11.5 to 17.5 much of it was on 11.5 and 15.0 with 15.0 as the time for short spans and then rest on 11.5 , but there was walking to fill up the intervals.
focussing on speed makes me feel that the ability to withstand the strain to do a non stop is out of focus.
16th January
Today I have done a very good workout
I started a Run at 20km/hr for about two mins and then switched to 15km/hr for almost 30 mins and then 15mins of walk @ 7.5km/hr on grade 20 and then walked and ran for another 10 mins @ 10km/hr then again i ran @10km/hr for 34 mins and again i repeated it. then ran and walked most of it for about 22mins.Thus an overall workout of 2hours and 30mins approximately.
My different training schedules have failed due to Knee injury and also pain on the Heel and finally inability to keep up with the High and hard to achieve targets there were instances when i wanted to simply get out of it.when i felt that this may not work out , and also the new excuse to accept the training schedules by trainers which demand atleast 6 months of Practice. But for various reasons today's practice has made me stronger and induced confidence in me.
Can i touch a 15km/hr for 2hours and 30 mins. This is a very hard to achieve target and this would mean lifting the Olympus. But tommorrow would be the last day for practice , the last chance to prove the Mettle before thhe Famed Mumbai marathon to Compete with the Horses out there..
January 17th
Today doesn't seem to be a good day for practice there is muscular pain and slight pain on the knee although not very serious.
May be before Midnight i would make an attempt.
I have managed to get the tickets for mumbai but they are in waiting list.
18th January
I hurriedly left home after waking up at around 10:30 to catch the Train @ 1:20 pm
luckily i managed to travel in the sleeper compartment till night and then managed to get another berth.
19th January
I was staying in my friend Tejas mathew's home in Mumbai there was pain on my knees and soles of my feet though they were not considerably alarming. but unlike after the wednesday's practice now i am with fear , uncertainity and lack of confidence.
A Fear that i may suffer from leg aches or an inablility to finish the race.
Around the 18th Dec when i started to walk the 53km i was determined to break the 300km in 6 days a week of strong athletes, i walked due to knee injury and when i walked i was confident that i could run , when i had to stop after 4th day , it was to avoid further injury and delay in recovery before marathon. Infact i had walked the 26km stretch from cyber gateway to uppal barefoot.
But now close to the race and i even reached Mumbai and i now i have the Monkey trying to turn me away.

I have another blog on the Mumbai marathon 2008 - the Run itself.
it was a run with pain killers and lack of confidence, and uncertainity due to pain on my legs, but i did it.

I have completed the full Marathon in 4 hours and 40 mins to be ranked 183 among chip holders.

Marathon World Record

Marathon World Record is presently held by Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia by a timing of 2:04:26, this record was set during the Berlin Marathon. border="0" />

I managed to arrive in Mumbai on 19th Jan Morning by train from Hyderabad. My tickets were booked only just one day in advance and thus it was not confirmed but i managed to get into the Sleeper coach and occupy a berth and later on to bribe the TTR to get a berth which was to be vacated soon,I received call from Tejas, and finally i suggested him to go for his tuitions and he provided me his brother's number, i arrived in Mumbai Vicotria Terminals by around 7:30 am then loittered around to click a few snaps of mumbai vt and also the pigeon pen near it.It was nice to watch people ripping open packets of grains and grams to feed the Pigeons which were in large numbers and often made peculiar distinct sounds as they flew in and out of the enclosure.

Then i called Tejus's brother Thapas and got to know about the bus number 81 which was to be boarded from the Times of India Building side of Victoria Terminals and managed to reach the Kemps corner Junction and then proceeded ahead but had to call thapas again reached his home to be greeted by Thapas and his Mom.

I had begun to experience the Monkey effect , i began to feel the pain on my legs, i had my second round of breakfast and then i set out to buy the pain killers, something strange about mumbia or Kemps corner , they do not sell tablets loose they are only sold in sheets.I had the Tablet and then i went to WTC at Caffe Parle to visit the Mumbai Marathon Expo, there was a few stalls but i did not get any insider information on the event and intention to have a navigation of the course did not happen as they could not suggest me the Bus no's.

Fear, Uncertainity and lack of Confidence in completing the race had filled me.I went back had my Dinner with Tejas and his family and then had my second dose of the painkiller and slept to wake early around 5:30 and then had a bath followed by prayers and then left for Azad Maidan all paths towards it was blocked and we returned to previous locations to finally get down and walk towards it.

Mumbai Full Marathon 2008
Azad Maidan was crowded but not what i expected as the Half Marathon was Flagged off Around 6:45 and i was there around 7:05 and then i managed to keep my bag and change into my Running attire. There were people around and the Kingfisher team was into their review of the Costume comptetion.

I pulled into the Holding area there were many out there but i did not get to see any elite runners or the African Athletes except for one or two female runners who were probably lost from the Elite runners group. There were a number of men who wore the Bangalore ultra Marathon T-shirt and i heard one of them murmuring he is the guy who ran the 100kms in Bangalore from morning to evening. After sometime all of us crowded towards the gate of the Holding area and prepared to push out. but we were lead in a pack covered by security and held for sometime when those elite runners ran past us and continued when a few among our lot manged to slip out and run behind the elite runners. Those moments when we were held by the security, time passed away very slowly i could feel millli seconds in a seconds as you feel seconds in a minute. All of us were eager to Dash and after sometime the security men moved away and we started to run i started to pace and i was not overtaken by many as i expected in a Marathon like that of Mumbai and continued to run crossed the Junction close to mumbai VT and then further on running past the 1km mark when i said to myself 41.2 more to go and continued to run tried to maintain my footspan and the speed regulated to what i sensed as optimal and continued. I was adviced to drink a lot of water thus i started to take the water bottles and initially i only gargled my mouth with it and spat the water out and continued this on multiple occasions and i continued to run i was telling myself to keep that pace steady and then completing the race would not be a problem and thus continued and after sometime there were people who overtook me but none of them had a crushing effect like how jack tihara had on me during hyderabad10k and many of them i did overtake again during this run along the marine drive the course was flat and there was no tiring effect other than the monkey trying his part and suggesting me to stop running. The people or the crowd was very cheerful and often they encouraged us and many smiled and waived at us as though we knew each other and i made an effort to wave back when ever i could.

I am unable to give the description of the place or the km marking there was a turn and then on the left there were a lot of people walking the were the left outs of the half marathon but they walked on the left side and the right side was clear and thus we did not have difficulty in running and thus continued and tried to maintain the pace and now it was a little encouraging as many have already faded out and i was still in form thus continued and then entered the pedder road inclination where there was runners in slow pace but there was enough space for anyone to run past them but the inlination began to take its effect and the calf muscles started to warm up , but not in pain as of now and i watched the km marking and continued. I ran past the 16km marking and then the 18km probably but after some time i saw the 26km marking which was a disastrous one done by the authorities as after that i did see the 22km marking atleast thrice on different location i was vexed with this and it began to take its toll my concentration on my footspan and pace slipped away and my speed and footspan reduced but sometime before or after i did see the pack of the lead runners they were advancing with huge steps there were around 3 of them and they were sourounded by two bikes and a sumo and after sometime the indian lead runner was following the trail with a bike as his escort and i did see a some more of those but i did not pay attention to them and continued
and finally reached the bandra reclmation point to see the dreaded 22km again.

How many times can you have 22km marking , this might be a very casual issue for the authorities but for me it had a devastating effect. i do not recollect the location or the distance covered when i asked some one about the time he replied quarter to nine thus in 1 hour.... i am unable to recollect what exactly could have been the distance covered is it around 16km or above 20km or ...... but for certain the race was still in grip and it continued after some time the steps turned even slower and thus continued to run but now i was looking out for the km marking which was not turning up as my speed had gone down it took a lot of anticipation to see myself cross the 28,29 and so on and by now i was running rather slow when the monkey was giving me the idea to walk and sprint but i refused and continued to be in motion but enroute i was drinking water and thus when i saw the toilets at the 31km mark i decided to use it thus stopped.

But after that i could not gather myself to run again and i tried to walk faster and with longer strokes but people ran past me and i was experiencing pain on my legs and i feared whether i would fail to complete the race but i was determined to walk and finish as i have walked multiple times 53km lengths and thus i continued and around 35km when i was descengin the pedder road flyover i managed to gain the inertia to run and tried to maintain it for sometime and then on i managed to run and walk and i was able to run faster that i was around 31km mark but there was pain on my legs and thus i had to stop and walk and then again run and that cycle went on.Then while going i remember asking a girl who was walking alongside for water when she gave the bottle of it and asked to take it along. That was an experience of Kindness i continued to run and walk and thus started to overtake some of those who ran past me after i started to walk and thus i continued to advance but as it was nearing noon temperature was rising and now i was fighting tiredness, pain on my legs and the heat. i did not have track of time and at juctions traffic had resumed but often stopped as the athletes came across but by now there were people around cheering us and telling us that we are close to finish and only 4km more and so on thus continued to run and walk towards the finish this went on finally to see the 41km mark and later the last 200 mts mark but i could not spirnt the last two hundred mts but finally managed to speed up a little as i saw the finish line and clock ticking 4:40:36 and on after i finished i asked people where i should go, they pointed to a direction but i could not make out and i asked for someone to accompany me after waiting for sometime it maybe less than a minute but it was quite annoying to find that people who crowded around the finish line was not there to accompany us to the officials.

I was accompanied by someone from the crowd and he finally led me to the retiring area where we were provided with biscuits , banana and apple.

Thus i completed my 1st Full Marathon.
It was not a success as per my targets but as this was my 1st full marthon and as i had been with pain on my legs for quite sometime and as warun nayar had written me that i am a winner. I am trying to rejoice at the success of the race and planning to prepare for the Vodafone Half marathon in October and Hyderbad10k in november and if i hope to run the Mumbai Full Marathon 2009.

I am indebted to Tejas and his family for the Hospitality during those two days, else i would have succumbed to some excuses and not run the Marathon.
I wish to thank the several people who cheered the runners.
Three cheers for the Mumbai Cheering Crowd.
Overall it was a well maintained event except a few minor events like when the water bottles were provided which were not opened, Electrol was supplied in abundance but not in every outlet.Distribution of Biscuits and banana during the final phase could be improved as unexperienced runners may collapse.

Monkey is a fictional character that i refer to in this blog. I did not run with a Monkey in a bag or on my shoulders but it is used to indicate that i resisted myself from excuse.

Hyderabad10k 2007

Hyderabad 10k. i was familar with this name since Nov 2005 when i saw a banner in Imax mall during a visit to imax during my early days in hyderabad. I wanted to run to win, but that was to prepare for a long distace after about 11 years. In 1994 porbably in sep/oct i won the cross country race in school after that i proceeded no furhter in athlectics as Computers,Networks,Software technoparks and Spiralling Businesses were my areas of intrest, during the next 11 years after the cross country race i walked distances like 13 Kms ie( Kasaragod town to Povval -North Kerala) , i ran behind buses to board the running buses, i ran behind trains to board a running train which spectators later objected me. I walked Kannur and Kasaragod (Kerala, India) railway coridors with heavy luggage to chase my Targets and Dreams.I walked a lot, I developed a liking to walking. "Winners never quit","Where there is a will there is a way", "Strive to succeed" ,I can say many more.I walked a lot during those 11 years of my Life after school which i spent on Business and studies together. But it turned me around to Hyderabad in Oct 2005, to be correct i landed in Hyderabad on 22 Oct. Joining in Genpact was exciting but above all there was someone in Hyderabad who was my inspiration to move into Hyderabad.Hyderabad 10k was one good way to go ahead with my Launch in hyderabad but that did not happen and my inspiration left hyderabad on Dec 6 2005. As i was comfortable with walking i even walked from Secunderabad to Habsiguda about 8Km ,I always walked back home after night shifts i was neither frightened of darkness, nor lazy to walk during initial days policemen would question me, but later they got accustomed to seeing a lonely walker in St no 8.

Hyderabad 10k of 2006 went almost unnoticed except about the registration facility in Genpact Cafeteria however it did not raise the excitement to cross threshold to participate in the run.But i made certain conquests of my own Judgement ie to walk from Punjagutta to Cyber gateway , and also an intention to walk from Uppal to Cybergateway. Which did not happen as situations did not demand and I didn't want to display weird strengths. There was a email communication inviting employees to participate in Hutch Delhi Marathon but the program incharge Rachana Gupta hardly knew anything more than the email and refused to talk, but that finished with a call conference, and Rachana Gupta dissapeared.Hutch Marathon happened the way it should have been but without my participation. But lately after the hyderabad 10k 2007 i heard that for the previous delhi hutch marathon they did not have runners, despite offering flight tickets to delhi.Perhaps allotment is to those who don't need it.There was also some program conducted by a hospital which was a awareness program on Heart diseases but i could not turn up for that due to office work.

Hyderabad 10k of 2007, it ignited me when i attended a Health fitness initiative Program when Shashank mentioned about Warun Nayar exisiting record of 1hr 7Mins and his present intention to set a new record to 1 hour. I made up my mind to Run the Hyderabad 10k, after checking up the website i had decided to run the Half marathon and i started my Practice.

This is about the Revival of my Long distance running.
On 1st nov i ran on the Threadmill for 30mins and then Cycling for 30 mins and then stepper for sometime.
I began to experience pain around my Knee.
On 2nd i walked on the Threadmill for 90 mins @ grade 12 and speed 10Kms.I walked and avoided running for my Knee Recovery.
On 5th Nov at 6:20 i started to run from Survey of India,Uppal by the time i reached Genpact my knee was paining and i reached Tarnaka at 6:40 and i proceeded to run via meetiguda and then i reached near marredpally at 7:10 i suppose and then my knee was paining too bad but i had a desire to run 26 Kms ie to Cyber gateway with a determination i continued to run i manged to cross Begumpet and futher to Life style but by the time i reached the overbridge @ lifestyle i could not raise my Right leg so i had to drag my right foot and cross the Bridge and then continue to walk and i had gulped two bottles of maaza and continued to walk, it was walking with left foot and dragging the right foot via ammerpe and banjara hill to cyber towers and finally cybergateway @ 10:50 and then drink a glass of juice and return to bus stop and then return to Uppal by bus.

For a few days i was handicapped with my right leg and then the pain on my right leg was almost gone, but i could not run thus the practices were mental and not physical.

I had made up my mind to run the 10Km instead of the 21Km run.

On 18th Nov after my French class at Marredpally i walked to secunderabad railway station and started to walk towards Cybergateway , i started from secunderabad at 3:10 and reached cybergateway at 6:40 i spend about 20 mins there seeking an alternate to leave my bag with someone and then collect it later at uppal but no luck so i proceed from cybergateway @ 6:50 and then walked all the way and reached uppal at 11:40 thus a conquest of an estimated 45 Kms on foot was Recorded before myself.

On 23rd after noon i took 2 painkillers to keep the pain at bay during the run.

On 25th Nov at 4:30 am i left uppal in Varun Goud's car after a massage by Tojo we reached there at people's plaza by 5:30 and it was already crowded with stout looking athletes whose Height and Structure indicates an aura of speed and stamina i missed the flag off of 21Km run , people's plaza was getting crowded by every minute and finally the bib or chest numbers were distributed , i was given 19292.whole area was crowded , later i read reports which mentioned that 34,000 had registered and 30,000 had participated. A group of us were waiting @ gate 5 and the 10k run was flagged of and somehow i managed to get into the swarm of runners and start to advance myself and i remember overtaking warun nayar and running past lumbini park when i saw probably jack tihara in green shorts and green sweatshirt galloping past me like a stallion, the Necklace road which is a broad road atleast around Lumbini park and it was littered with runners when he ran past like a footballer takling opponents and going past , he went around zig zag crossing people and in a speed which made me compare him to a stallion. I was going at a steady speed and i was gradually overtaking many but his advancement crushed me and made me feel i should give up. Now my knee started to pain but with a determination i continued to run and i started to slow down but still running there were some who ran past me some were kids, some were probably athletes while there were also many from police and army i guess.
I was dragging my right foot and running with my left foot then at a point i fell but i got up almost as qucikly as i fell and continued to run and then when i saw the green carpet at the finishing point i sprinted, i sprinted like a 100 mts dash covering about 4 or 5 runners before me and as i crossed i caught hold a person by his hand and asked him for time , he showed me his watch but i somehow could not read the time on that dial as it was facing him and thus i repeated " what is the time ?" he replied 8:10 , then i asked "when was it started ?" he replied 7:25 , i calculated 45 mins then i looked at his face it was Gopichand the badminton player, i smiled and left the scene , 10 Km in 45 mins was not bad after a Knee sprain and a fall during the run. I did notice anyone from Genpact who crossed me while running and i was searching for anyone around, i walked inside the people's plaza to find no one and when i returned i saw Umesh rane just finished and sitting down at the pavement.I enquired about the presence of others who finished the race but he hadn't seen any.In a short while Warun Nayar finshed the race in Grace and Style in 55 mins. in a short while ratnamala rao finished the race along with Ajith Padhi and later or before my friend warun goud also finshed, in a short while we were forming a crowd with satish parichuri, jayesh barai, anupama kothapalli and many more all heaving a sign of relief and achievement.I remembered warun nayar's popular quote " when was the last time that you did something for the first time ?"

when Jack Tihara ran past me i thought Long distance run was not worth a serious effort. But 10Km in 45 Mins and First from Genpact Honour Inspired me to Run Further I had decided to run the Mumbai Full Marathon 43Km or 26 Miles as westerners call it.This decision was made within half an hour after completing the hyderabad10k.

I happen to come across the Reults of the Hyderbad10K 2007 both the 21Km & 10Km

http://www.hyderabad10k.com/results2007/RepOverrall21.htm

http://www.hyderabad10k.com/results2007/RepOverrall10.htm

From the timings here i suppose i would be ranking around 73rd postion in 10km Run as i had clocked it in 45 mins. But going thorugh the list i come across so many young girls and young boys who have done very well.
but again it is the ranking of people who ran with the chip i suppose as i am unable to find my Race no 19292
instead it shows a series of numbers from 2**** maybe that was the series of numbers given to athletes with Timing Chip. Those of us who ran as Part of corporate team ( not corporate challange ) are not included in the list, but initially the mention of 'details not collected made me think otherwise.A postion of (73 + number of runners without chip within 45 mins in 10Km).

On January 12th during Igrind a company Townhall i was rewarded by a momento by Warun nayar. It was an honour to receive the Momento from one Great Man like Warun Nayar.

Warun nayar is well known for his initiatives like Anti smoking Campaign , Fitness @ IT services and many more. For some reasons his initiatives and his famed powerpoint presentations are Inspiring and has resulted in fellow employees making an effort to quit smoking and there was an improvement in the Gym attendance.

I have read in a marathon blog by Tanvir Karzmi a runner from Delhi that "The marathon, it has been said, is a journey, not a destination. This blog shares the experiences of my journey towards my first Marathon, and maybe many more beyond that."

These blogs do serve some purpose as i have received a mail from warun nayar's friend who lost contact with him, and wanted me to connect him to warun nayar.
