For this week’s video I decided to work on the other side of the album where my Florida vacation photos would be. So it’s another one page spread this time. 
This month was a little more crazy than normal so I’m taking you on an video adventure without a voiceover… just to prove how dorky I am! LOL.

My book is done and now the real work begins.  I’m trying to pace myself… but with all the content I’m scared there’s going to be more than a few sleepless nights in my future.  :)

I’m kinda in love with the wood veneer and the stamp set from this kit.  (99% of my book was made from this kit).

I think I’m going to use this “Field Notes” stamp in a lot of other projects too… especially Project Life.

And my cover… because I’m madly in love with how it turned out.

I think they’re so quirky and unique. I love all the little hand drawn bits. Smash products are part of our special NSD sale! Yay!

Tuesday we were without power for most of the day.  80 mph winds.  Fun times.

What little charge I left on my phone was spent playing with the new A Beautiful Mess app.

Time well spent.

My littlest is an animal lover.  Big time.  We had crazy winds here yesterday afternoon and in the evening he found these two guys in the grass.

After talking to them and naming them he was determined to save them.  He wanted an incubator.  He wanted to find a nest.  He’s fully aware that it’s a lost cause but we both agreed to do our best to help them out.

We went looking where he found them but couldn’t find anything.

We did find a nest by the gas tanks, so Dr. Dolittle climbed up and placed them in.

He’s been back out numerous times to visit and talk with them.  There’s been many tears when he thinks about them.  He wants to save them so badly.

I’m so happy he’s so full of compassion and kindness and willing to try.

But I’ve got a basket ready… veneers in jars, printables printed and a photo ready.

Now.  All I need is some free time.  ;)

This year I decided to record our recent Florida vacation in a mini book rather than in my normal Project Life album.  I decided on a Studio Calico Handbook…. so basically it turned out to be a mini Project Life.  :) I’ve already shared my plan and my cover on this blog and on the Studio Calico blog, and now the project is completed.  :)

But what about storage?  These are all little loose papers.  And even in the little bit that I handled them the color was rubbing off onto my hands.

Through a thread on the Studio Calico message boards I found this video and figured it would be a great idea for me.  I could easily toss them in my trays I used for current kits and thus remember to use them.  And then I could just as easily put them with my other painting supplies when I wasn’t.

I started by opening up my little pack of watercolors.

One side represents the approximate color once dry (although I don’t know how accurate that really is) and the other is the actual watercolor.  Now, the back side is supposed to have the color name and information stamped on it.  Mine don’t for some reason.  So, I honestly don’t have any idea which color is which.

I organized my paints into rainbow order and drew a grid on the backs.

Then I flipped them over so I could use the paint.
Next I took a piece of paper and just quickly swiped a little bit from each color so I could keep everything in order.
I punched these out in little circles and put them on the actual card.  Now I could move any of them around to keep things in the order I wanted them.  It’s interesting to see how some of the watercolors don’t look anything like the color they actually are.  :)
I flipped them over and numbered the backs and trimmed one square off.  This way when I’ve used one up I can replace it with another one.

I glued these down onto template I printed out onto a sheet of white 8.5×11 cardstock.  You can find the template available for download here if you’re interested in creating a palette like this one.
Once I had glued them all down I swiped a color swatch beneath each color.  Then I sewed the template onto an 8.5×11 sheet of kraft cardstock for stability.  To ensure that the colors didn’t smudge off onto others when it was closed I sewed an 8.5×11 transparency onto the top by going down the center.  So, that’s kraft, white, transparency if you’re keeping track.

I think the transparency page will be nice to mix paints on too.
I added the numbers onto the paint swipes once they’d dried.
I haven’t had a ton of time to play with them yet.  Right now I’m still experimenting and using cheapy watercolors to do that.  But once I’m feeling a little more confident… look out!

I also invested in some more brushes and am using those… mostly in my Happy Little Moments class.  I’m really loving how the book paper is taking the paint.

Now… if only I could make it work on cardstock.  ;)
