The year ended with the fulfilling task of programming the films for Mujeres en Direccion, a young festival in Cuenca, Spain, focussing on the work of women directing film and videoart. Cuenca came as a great surprise to me with lovely museums and a passionate film audience and the wonderfull team around the directór of the festival Marta Belaustegui.

The Sevilla European Film Festival  and its artistic director Javier Martin Dominguez let me coordinate their Industry Forum again and I was happy to welcome some great women experts on the panels! 
We also organised the II Conference Women in the European Film Industry in collaboration with CIMA (Association of Women in Cinema and the Audiovisual Media in Spain) during the Sevila Film Festival.

In October I proudly presented the second PORYES Feministic Porn Film Award in Berlin and enjoyed a lot of humor and knowledge of the sexuality of women acompanied with their films.
“PorYes“ is the label for films made in accordance with certain feminist criteria, showing the diversity of sexual expressions.

2011 was a year with lots of work and not always easy for any of us and therefore I can only offer my guesthouse in Almeria/ Spain again for all of those who need to Dream, Relax & Reconnect  every so often!

Due to my family-related passion for the Polynesian people I am writing a story about the childhood of Margaret Brander, who was born on December 31, 1856 on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia.

The blog hopefully will motivate the Islanders as well as friends and experts to contribute to this story, recalling this time and age of the second half of the 19th century in the South Pacific via letterstotheisland.net

Tras la conferencia de apertura ayer 7 de noviembre sobre “Financiación internacional del Cine Europeo” con Christophe Vidal, Jerzy Skolimowski, Javier Martin Dominguez, Soren Staermose y Roberto Olla y el Foro de “Mujeres en la Industria del Cine Europeo”, el dia 9 de noviembre continuabamos con “La Historia es lo primero. Los pasos del guion” en la Casa de la Ciencia, Pabellón de Peru, Sevilla.

El dia 11 de noviembre seguimos con “El Encuentro andaluz de marketing y distribución internacional con 4 sesiones en las que  participarán Claudia Landsberger, Elin Sander, Hannes Stoehr, Pilar Ortega, Meinolf Zurhorst, Pieter van Huystee y Manuel de la Roche, entre otros. Igualmente contaremos con la participación de empresas como First Hand Film, Wide Mangement y The Festival Agency, A+K-Agency y Storydocs.

Der aus einer Hamburger Kaufmannsfamilie stammende Jan Schlubach arbeitete nach Kriegsdienst und Gefangenschaft zunächst als Bühnenbildner an verschiedenen Münchner Bühnen. Da es noch keine funktionierenden Kunsthochschulen gab, blieb er Autodidakt und lernte in der Praxis. 1948 begann eine langjährige künstlerische Partnerschaft mit dem Intendanten und Regisseur Heinz Hilpert mit über siebzig gemeinsamen Inszenierungen, erst in Konstanz und von 1950 bis 1959 am Deutschen Theater in Göttingen. 1959 verließ Schlubach Göttingen und arbeitete an Theatern und Opern in Berlin, Hamburg und Köln, u. a. mit Rudolf Noelte, der ihn auch zum damals noch neuen Medium Fernsehen brachte. Neben der weiteren Tätigkeit für die Bühne entwarf er hier ab 1960 Szenenbilder für Rudolf Noelte und Ludwig Cremer, v. a. aber für den Regisseur Peter Beauvais, mit dem gemeinsam über vierzig anspruchsvolle Werke entstanden, darunter die erfolgreichen Filme “Im Reservat” (1971) und “Deutschstunde” (1973) nach Siegfried Lenz.

Seit den 1970er Jahren war Jan Schlubach dann international für Kino, Fernsehen und Bühne tätig wie bei “Die Unerreichbare” (1982) von Krzysztof Zanussi oder “James Bond 007 – Octopussy” (1983). Ein Höhepunkt seiner Karriere war die langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Stanley Kubrick, u. a. bei “Barry Lyndon” (1975), und “The Shining” (1980). Weitere herausragende Arbeiten als Szenenbildner waren der Film “Fabian” von Wolf Gremm, für den Schlubach 1980 den Deutschen Filmpreis erhielt, sowie “Der Rosengarten” (1990) mit Liv Ullmann und Maximilian Schell, der für den Deutschen Filmpreis und den Golden Globe nominiert wurde.

Schlubach, der auch als Filmpädagoge wirkte, war seit 2000 Mitglied der Akademie der Künste und stiftete das Alfred-Hirschmeier-Stipendium der Akademie für junge Filmszenographen.

Das Jan-Schlubach-Archiv umfasst ca. 20 Regalmeter. Bühnen- und Szenenbildentwürfe zu einem Großteil seines Werkes von über 70 Filmproduktionen, aber auch nicht realisierten Projekten, finden sich darin ebenso wie Korrespondenzen, u. a. mit Stanley Kubrick, Heinz Hilpert, Rudolf Noelte, Gustaf Gründgens, Brigitte Horney, Volker Schlöndorff, Leonhard Steckel, Michael Hampe, Marcel Marceau, Siegfried Lenz, Tatjana Gsovsky, Carl Zuckmayer und Boleslaw Barlog. Besondere Erwähnung verdient die umfangreiche Korrespondenz mit seinem Bruder, dem Architekten und Hans-Poelzig-Schüler Edgar Schlubach.

Die herausragende Bedeutung Jan Schlubachs für die deutsche Film- und Fernsehlandschaft wird in den nächsten Tagen erneut gewürdigt; er zählt zu den 40 Filmschaffenden, die auf dem “Boulevard der Stars” am Potsdamer Platz einen Stern erhalten.
