My Hills Debut?

Hokay so.... some of you may know that I partied twice with some people from The Hills (in January) because I'm friends with miss Chiara, aka friend of Audrina on the show.

Both nights that I went out and met "the cast and crew," I was at the club Goa and one of the nights that I went out aired last night!

However, because I'm not at all famous or important (the crew kept pushing me out of the way for the camera shots), I don't think I made the cut. I wore a blue dress with my hair up so I was looking for my curly poof the whole episode yesterday.

After reading miss Hollywood Sucker's blog, I think I may have found myself! Please see the curly poof on the bottom right corner of this screen shot:

The SOTD is a really well remixed version of American Boy (video posted on the 18th). A lot of times remixers go crazy repeating the same sound over to the point where I think it ruins the song. Design for Others

Designing things for others is really tricky:
a. I have no official design training (outside of my half-semester of Intro to Digital Art class)
b. Design seems to always have a personal style/feel to it.
c. It's really hard to get EXACTLY what someone is looking for.

I'm currently working on a cover for my friends' short film, "Magazine Girl" and here are some of the design ideas we've gone through.
Although I don't think we quite have it yet, I think I'm getting closer to what they're looking for.

There's a party in my fort right now. No. Seriously. 5 friends watching Darjeeling Limited (yessss).

I just finished All the President's Men and learned two things. Robert Redford's a hottie, and life would be mizzz without Google. Their research is filled with sorting through phone books and reading millions of reports. ick. Anyway, if you haven't seen it I recommend it. An excellent portrayal of how truth can result from passionate journalists (ahem fellow bloggers).

One thing I love about working from home / online work is my endless access to PRICELESS 90s television.

Growing up as the youngest of three girls, my sisters and I had no choice but to watch Full House. Every problem / topic seemed to relate to us (minus the hot uncle and the goofy ex-boyfriend of Alanis Morrisette see: Joey Gladstone's picture moving in)

I realized today that Denise from Full House (Michelle's girlfriend, niece of Little Richie at one point) is the same chick as the girl from The Great Debaters!
Not only was she amazing in The Great Debaters (a 'Remember the Titans'-esque racial struggle movie with more chill-provoking speeches and good acting) but she's a hottie now too!

Slip Sliding Away

My single-independent-empowerment feeling is slipping awayyy....

It all started with a simple viewing of "Step Up." A movie I've seen a million times, (muscle-y yet kind foster-care boy woos rich petite art-school-student-choreographer and they dance their problems away into the sunset.) As he lifted her over his head in that last "nobody puts Baby in the corner"-esque scene, some cog came loose in my head. The cheesiness affected me. I am back in my terrible state of watching every 'hand-holding' couple closely, envying people's change of relationship status on Facebook, and all those terrible habits of a young woman who's been single for quite too long.
I'm hoping its a phase. I want to go back to feeling independent and free.

I blame the arrival of Spring.

The Car Search Continues

So the future home search may be solved but the car search is certainly not!

Before this weekend, the Mini-Cooper was my decision, I couldn't wait to get out to LA and test drive one and then pick the colors to match my favorite checkered vans.

UNFORTUNATELY, when I got there you couldn't walk two feet without seeing five minis everywhere you looked :(. Now some may have the opinion that that shouldn't bother me and that I should get whatever I want, but I have issues with doing things everyone does. (Otherwise I would've played the clarinet like all my friends instead of the stupid flute.)

My mother is pushing me towards the Prius and rented one for the weekend so I could get a taste and see what I thought. I LOVED driving it, the POWER button, the 'whats going on in the engine thingy', the camera when you're backing, AND we spent 21 dollars on gas the entire weekend. The only problem is I kind of think it's ugly anddd everyone had one. Maybe more so than the Mini-Coopers.

So please help! Does anyone know of a fuel efficient, affordable car? How about the new Mazdas... is the one below too manly? Will people ask me about the transmission and other weird words I don't understand when they see it?

My Top Ten Best Movies That You've Never Heard Of

Some of you film buffs may have seen these but I thought it would be fun to draw some attention to some of my favorite independent and foreign films.

10. Junebug - Slow paced so you have to be in the mood for it but Amy Adams' role makes it worth it.
9. Gloomy Sunday - A dark but interesting story of a song that causes suicides, set in 1930s Budapest.
8. Sex and Lucia - A bit racy but a really crazy and interesting story of love and loss.
7. Broken English - Parker Posey is overwhelmingly lonely and sick of the 'get hit on at a bar' dynamic. I connected with her neurotic character and the difficulty of an inconvenient romance.
6. City of God - A violent but compelling look at young gangs in Brazil.

5. Downfall - A German film which portrays Hitler and those close to him as he goes insane during his last weeks.
4. The Squid and the Whale - I'm a bit biased because Wes Anderson had something to do with this movie and I love him, but it's a unique story of a dynamic family dealing with divorce.
3. The Lives of Others - Really awesome German film where a member of the secret police's views are changed after listening in to "the lives of others."
2. The Valet - Tres cute french romantic comedy where an adorable little man's luck turns.

Okay maybe not the BEST thing. But it's pretty amazing. (drumroll)

FLOCK!

It's a new Internet Browser that integrates all your social network accounts and keeps them on the left side of your browser so you always know whats going on!

I now have my Facebook, Blogger, Gmail, Photobucket, Twitter, YouTube, and delicious accounts all integrated into my browser. I can click the "people" tab and see what friends have uploaded new videos on youtube and changed their status on Facebook and Twitter. For the Web 2.0 obsessed like me, this will make your life easier.

I only wish they had more social networks integrated into Flock but I'm sure they'll have more in new versions...

I never thought I'd be the type of person who was TBTB (too busy to blog)... but alas it has happened.

I always took pride in my exorbitant amounts of free time. In high school I'd spoil myself by making banana smoothies, laying in the hammock in my room while watching audrey hepburn movies. In college I sit in my blue fort and listen to Joni Mitchell "Blue."

Unfortunately today is a day where I am in fact TBTB.

I may be a newbie to the Blogger world but I've definitely become an addict.

Lately, in an attempt to find new blogs that I'd be interested in, connect with possible new readers, and find quality (but not obnoxious ads) I've done a ton of advice column reading and social network joining.

After some boredom this weekend, I'm now a member of (I still have a lot more work to put into my profiles etc.): Newsvine, Furl, Feedburner, Squidoo, LA Bloggers!, Twenty Something Bloggers, myBlogLog, Twitter, Technorati, BlogCatalog, Digg, Reddit, del.icio.us, Zimbio, Bloggers' Showroom, BlogHer, StumbleUpon, and Mixx.... oy. I didn't realize it had become that many.

This may seem kind of crazy but I've always been really curious about the design and inter workings of different 2.0 websites. I, at least, have the excuse that my job deals with Online Marketing and I'm doing "research," but I think I'm just an addict.

Fellow Bloggers: I'll keep you updated on which 2.0 sites are worth it...
So far my favorite is definitely 20 Something Bloggers. It's membership is really active and encouraging and there are a lot of people with really unique insight on different topics.

College v. Real Life (conclusion)

OK. So what I'm hearing from responses from the last post and several others is the sentiment: DON'T LEAVE COLLEGE. Everyone wishes they were still there.

After reading the advice everyone left for me, a lot of things sunk in. Trying to make college 'the best years of my life' shouldn't be a burden but rather an exciting realization that it's a completely unique time in my life. There are things I can take advantage of and appreciate without also looking forward to the future.

I'd like to thank everyone who gave me advice namely:

srah: I guess for me the best thing about college was having friends living in close proximity, and being able to get ahold of somebody at pretty much any hour of the day to go do something. My time's a lot more structured now, and I don't have that kind of casual friendship where you just show up at somebody's door.

gunn: Yes, university was good, very good in fact, all the things that most say it was that makes it the best years while you're in it. What makes it THE best however, is finding yourself after, fitting into what you are happiest doing career-wise, sure maybe marriage/ kids, etc.,etc..
Being happy and comfortable and fulfilled in what you do with life after university is what gives that time the aura that one remembers after with so much clarity and fondness.
Someone said "Follow your bliss", don't know who, but it fits.

theycallmecurlysue: I hear ya! When I graudated from college it was like reality bit me in the butt..and hard! I moved to a completely new town (Colorado Springs) and only knew some family. I've been here three and a half years and even though I'm a social person by nature, I have found it very hard to make good friends and ones who aren't come and goers. Oh, and the whole 9-5 bit is such a downer ;)

In an attempt follow their advice. I've begun making a list of ways to remain young and fill my last two months with "productive" fun.

Numero Uno: Build a Fort for friends to gather in. (check - pictures of its amazingness below)

Numero Dos: Plan and execute a Beer Olympics. (planning is underway)
Numero Tres: Appreciate having many friends nearby as much as possible. (check)
Numero Cuatro: Realize I'm surrounded by the best friends I've ever had. (check)
Numero Cinco: Relax and "have a good tiiiiiime."

College v. Real Life

Something that comes up a lot with my group of friends is this fear of graduation/real life. College is this unique oasis where you're free from most responsibilities (and for some, financial responsibilities). Take my apartment for example, we had friends over last night we've got garbage all over the apartment but we're going to turn off the lights and watch movies and play video games until we're in the mood to clean. Maybe that sounds gross to you but I consider it a part of the indulgence that college embraces. Like our neighbors who took their mattresses outside when it snowed and used them as sleds. They may have eternally soaked mattresses but it was fun and we're in college and therefore it's socially acceptable.

The other side, though, is that living in Los Angeles or New York, Panama, the Virgin Islands, and the other exciting places my friends will live are far better than this little town of Elon, NC. Although real life brings rent, 9-5 jobs, does proximity to new people, beaches, live music, museums make up for it?

It's been awhile since I've done a movie post soo I thought I'd blog a bit about the shenanigans I've been watching.
The People v. Larry Flint
Although it's a bit risque, I dug this movie. It happened to be EXTREMELY pertinent to my Media Law class where I just took a test on the Supreme Court case, Hustler v. Falwell. Woody Harrelson did an excellent job but it was a little eerie how natural of a role it was for Courtney Love.

The Darjeeling Limited
I'd already seen it in the theaters and LOVED it but now that I own it I'm on a new level. For the past five years or so I've watched Royal Tenenbaums regularly (probably 10 times a month). I have no idea why, theres just something comforting about Wes Anderson's style of slow-paced, well soundtracked movies that makes me want to watch them over and over again. ANYWAY, Darjeeling Limited is no exception and I looooove the Indian scenery, soundtrack, and bright colors. Watched it this morning and will probably watch it tonight :).

Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day
Oy. This was a pick of my sister's. It was pretty cute but verrry cheesy, kind of along the same line as a musical. One good thing about this movie is that it introduced me to actor Lee Pace (below). He did an excellent job of making you love his character from the first second he was on screen.
