Stillwater's book is a gentle and humorous parody of the ever-popular A Course in Miracles, coupled with a warm wisdom of its own. Needless to say, Stillwater used the garden metaphor to the maximum.

The Latin name for marigolds is "Tagets," after the ancient Etruscan prophet Tages. Tages was a founding prophet of Etruscan religion. He revealed a cosmic view of divinity and correct oracular methods of ascertaining divine will concerning events of public interest. Divination was undertaken in Roman society by priestly officials called haruspices. Political officials also, such as the augures, were constituted with some responsibilities for divination. — Wikipedia - Tages

The sacred texts recording the revelations of Tages were called by the Romans the Etrusca Disciplina. None of these wrtten works survived the Christian book burning of the Fifth Century A.D.

Part of the Marigold Millennium is to beautify abandoned or neglected public spaces with marigolds.
I nominate the I-65 embankment on Brook Street directly across from Unity of Louisville.
Or, it is thought of as a thousand-year period of holiness mentioned in Revelation 20, supposedly during which Jesus and his faithful followers are to rule on earth. The first definition given here, "a hoped-for period of joy, serenity, prosperity, and justice" is not a measurement of time, it is a measurement of people.

A millennium is the number of people needed to assure a period of joy, serenity, prosperity, and justice, however many people that may be.

Maybe it is only a thousand people. Maybe a thousand united in heart and mind are enough to make joy, serenity, prosperity, and justice prevail. But, maybe it only takes two, you and me.

I'll do my part. Please join me in this aspiration.

- oOo -

Tom Fox
Louisville, Kentucky

Receive new posts by Email

Tom Fox on Facebook
