Verão

2020-11-09T10:08:00.001+01:00

Is it normal that those who are far away miss the sun and the sea this much? When we are far away, we start to see our home with different eyes. For me, today, Portugal means sun (even in times of rain), fruit, sea and peace. Portugal today has charms that I have never seen before (or gave importance to).

That is why when I go to Portugal, I surround myself with fruit, I spend most of my time watching the sea and I try to enjoy every second close to those who I miss the most.

These photos were taken in the south of Portugal, in one of my favorite places. Is it obvious that I am not the only one who loves to come home?

Estou desaparecida, eu sei.

I've been away, I know. The truth is that reconciling school, work, extra-curricular courses and personal life does not leave much time for other things. Photographing is one of them.
Whenever I have time (and I am up to it) I take the camera and here I go. And these two are undoubtedly a source of inspiration. Joyful, fun, so special. These pictures were taken in February, before the lockdown started. It wasn't that long ago and they are so different already.
Hope you like it.

2020-03-26T20:00:00.000+01:00

A Sara veio ver-me.

These two are already parents and photographing them was such a pleasure.

Jerome is my classmate and as soon as we finished our school exams we arranged this photo session with the whole family, including the four-legged daughter. We decided to go to the forest, which means a lot to them (and to me too).

They are a beautiful family.

I know I've been distant from here, but time is very short nowadays. I try to post more regularly on instagram, so go follow me there!

Exams...

2019-06-02T19:06:00.000+01:00

E começa agora a etapa final.

The exam season began and with it begins the countdown to the end of another year. A year of hard work, dedication and change. This year has brought me the certainty of what I want to do, brought me a farewell to the first team that welcomed me and a hello to the new that, at the moment, welcomes me. It brought me less sleep, less time to photograph, but a lot of knowledge. A difficult but very positive year. And now the final step begins. Thank you for continuing on that side, even though I am so absent from this one. :)

Obrigada :)

I've always heard that time flies. These two are proof of that. Two years ago I was photographing their pregnant mother and now we celebrate their second anniversary. Time passes flying and sometimes it seems like we do not have time to enjoy every moment. And the truth is that I have not had time to come here, to photograph or to be with these two. One month and I promise to dedicate myself to everything I have lost during this year. Thank you for all those who are still here. It's so good to see that you still come here. Thanks :)

Ele.

Him. He is the tiniest love of my life. He's my blood, my heart, the person I wish to see the most during the year. He fills us with joy, with his own games that we already know by heart. He breaks our hearts every time we have to see him go.

How to love something so tiny?

Cupcakes & shhht

2019-03-16T18:39:00.000+01:00

Cupcakes & shhht is where we had our Sunday's breakfast. It is situated in Elephant & Castle and was surprisingly good. We did not know this place before, nor had we heard anything about it, but since we had no place to eat we decided to go there and try it. Delicious! The people were super friendly, the establishment was 100% vegan and the food was to die for, not to mention the wonderful place where they are situated. It is well worth discovering this site! :)

Unity dinner and Borough market

2019-02-26T10:52:00.001+01:00

Valeu tanto a pena!

We went to London, in November, for a weekend. If there's one thing I like about living in Brussels, it's being so close to so many big cities. That weekend went quite fast but it was amazing. It was my first time visiting London and our goal was to eat! Yes, to eat. London is full of vegan restaurants and we wanted to try as much as we could. For me, what I wanted to visit the most was the Unity diner. A non-profit diner that opened very recently whose profits go to support the Surge and to open a sanctuary there. We were super well received, fairly well served, we ate a lot and I couldn't be happier for having finally visited this place. It was so worth it! On Saturday morning, after we arrived, we went to the Borough Market for breakfast before going to the Unity Diner for lunch. The Borough market has quite a few options, not all vegans. I ate a nice burger. My face of happiness when I saw the food made the ladies who were there working tell me "we are also very glad to see you". If you ever go there, these are two places to visit! :)

Pikies pikies

2019-01-17T13:30:00.000+01:00

Chamamos-lhes Pikies, ou pikinikies, ou pikinikikies. Chamamos-lhes macacas, koalas, comilonas.

Chamo-lhes meu amor.

Como não as amar?

We call them Pikies, or pikinikies, or pikinikikies. We call them monkeys, koalas. We call them what comes to our minds, directly from the heart. We call them everything and a few more, because the only desire we have is to squeeze them with all our strength since this love it's too big to fit all in our hearts.

I call them my love.

How can I not love them?

My friends were here - part II

2018-12-25T12:50:00.000+01:00

The second part of my friends' visit was spent in Brugge, a magical city in Belgium. It is considered the Venice of Belgium and is one of the most beautiful places here. You must have seen some posts here in the blog about this city, but the truth is that whenever I go there I get to know another little corner that I had never seen. I've been there many times, but every time I go there I feel like a tourist, just like them.

Have you visited Brugge yet?

E é isto. Experimentem!
And this is it. Try it! I hope you liked it and if you make your own vegan meringues, share it with me :)

#Vegan - meringues

2018-12-13T08:23:00.000+01:00

No entanto amo suspiros.

Ingredientes:

- 100 gramas de açucar;

- 6 colheres de sopa de aquafaba (o liquido das latas de grão);

Material:

- Saco de pasteleiro + ponta;

- Batedeira;

- Forno pre-aquecido a 150 graus;

Receita:

Separar o grão do liquido.

If there is something I liked to eat it was meringues. I love to eat sweet stuff, but I'm not a cake or dessert person. However, I love meringues. Yes, pure sugar. Yes, I love it. The traditional recipe takes eggs, and since Mariana does not eat any kind of animal or animal product, I had to find another solution. Honestly? I do not notice difference, it is relatively quick and easy to do and my desires for sugar are thankful.

Ingredients:

- 100 grams of sugar;

- 6 tablespoons of aquafaba (the liquid of the cans of chickpeas);

Material:

- Pastry bag;

- Food mixer;

- Pre-heated oven at 150 degrees;

Recipe:

Separate the chickpeas from the liquid. I use a pasta strainer and a bowl of soup and pour the can of chickpeas, letting the liquid flow into the bowl.

Once the liquid is separated from the chickpeas, I pour 6 tablespoons into my mixer. Usually 6 tablespoons corresponds exactly to the total liquid of the cans that I buy.

I start the mixer at minimum speed and let it mix for about 5 minutes. I increase the speed very slowly and when it begins to form a whitish liquid/foam increase, little by little, the speed to the maximum. I let it mix until the foam gets some consistency. This process should take about 10 minutes. I do not count the exact time, I prefer to guide myself by the aspect of the foam. But don't count with less than 10 minutes.

Once the foam is more consistent, slowly add the sugar. To add the sugar low the speed of the mixer and increase it again to the maximum once you have added the whole sugar. I let it mix for another 10 minutes. Again, it may take more or less time.
For those who like flavors, you can add vanilla to the mixture.

How do I know if it's ready? If you turn the bowl of the mixer and the mixture gets stuck, then you're ready to start doing the meringues! (or you can simply experiment with a spoon)

Once ready, fill the pastry's bag with the mixture and start to make the meringues in the baking tray. To all who are horrible in this part (just as I am), simply worry that the meringues are all about the same size. :)

Put the baking tray in the oven, preheated to 150 degrees, for about 45 minutes. Once the 45 minutes have passed, turn off the oven (but do not open it) and let the meringues inside for another 60 min. In the end, enjoy yourself :)

My friends were here - Part I

2018-11-23T11:29:00.000+01:00

Two other friends who came to visit the country that I call home. And it is always so good to be able to receive those who are important to us here. It is especially good when we realize that although the distance is a lot, the friendship remains the same. And these two have been in my life for quite some time. One came from England, the other from Portugal and we reunited here in Belgium.
Between walks and talks, my heart got warmer and the batteries recharged.

Today I bring you some of the photos we took in the Brussels area and the forests. The rest will come later, in another post :)

Rêve d'Aby

2018-11-07T10:00:00.000+01:00

Rêve d'Aby is an association that rescues mistreated animals. It is an association dedicated not only to saving so many beautiful lives, but also to passing a warning message to all those who visit them at their open doors. It is an association with a work so beautiful and of such great importance to these animals who lived in deplorable conditions. Some abandoned, others treated as objects, others drunk, others tortured. It was there that we met Carmela and Victor, and so many other wonderful ones. Each one with its personality, its history, its traumas, but all open to give another opportunity to the species that has done them the worst. We have so much to learn from them. So much.

These types of associations always need monetary help and help in the field. If you would like to help, look for information on existing associations and help them in whatever ways you can.

For now enjoy the photos I bring you (the first of many, since every weekend I go there to see my Carmelita and my Victor :)).

My best friend's wedding

2018-10-31T10:00:00.000+01:00

A minha amiga a quem chamo irmã.

My oldest friend got married. My friend with whom I shared so many moments, some so good, others so bad, others so-so, others that it is better to keep secret. My friend who saw me grow up, the friend I saw grow up. My friend who accompanied all the changes I've gone through, every moment, every strange taste, every pain, every joy. My friend so different from me, but deep down so equal. My friend with whom I shared secrets, with whom I shared dreams, with whom I realised some and who saw me realize so many others. My friend, whom I call sister. My oldest friend married the only "stranger" that she brought into my life that I ever liked. The only one I met and the only one I love so much. My friend got married, I cried, she cried, he cried and everything was beautiful. How I love you both, my loves.

The love between Lì and Martim

2018-10-22T10:00:00.000+01:00

If there is one person my dog loves, it is my favourite mini-person: Martim. He absolutely loves him. If Martim is present, nobody else is interesting enough for Lì, not even Federico. He follows Martim wherever he goes, naps with him, plays with him, lies down beside him while he watches television, hugs him, waits for him while he eats, gives him his kisses and takes the greatest care of the world with Martim. If there are beautiful things to see, their relationship is one of them. For all those who are afraid of Lì on the street, who change to the other side of the street, who do not dare to come near him, I understand you, but here I show you what you are running from: a mountain of love. How can I not smile over these two?

Los Angeles was our last stop. The purpose of this trip was more to see the parks, the nature, not the cities. I did not expect much from Los Angeles, and to be honest we did not invest much on this day.

Our first experience in Los Angeles was a NBA game. And we were lucky enough to be there in the last game of the league. The experience was revolving, the atmosphere was amazing, I had the opportunity to see in live this sport that I grew up with, but the game was a bit bad.

Our second experience was the gigantic availability of vegan food. Oh, I was so happy during those two days without worrying too much if I had something to eat.

Our third experience was a walk along the Hollywood Strip. It's cool. It is not much more than what you see in the pictures and it is too commercial.

Our fourth experience was watching a 4D movie at the TCL Chinese Theatre with popcorn entitled to refill. The cinema is beautiful, the 4D was fantastic and I would repeat the experience.

As for the city itself, I did not see anything. Maybe one day I'll come back with more time and spend a few days visiting it, but this time it was not the priority and I do not regret it.

And you, would you like to visit Los Angeles? Have you visited?

San Francisco

2018-09-28T08:10:00.000+01:00

Durante o dia andamos a passear, sem nada planeado, so a vadiar.

San Francisco is everything I did not imagine. Yes, I did not. Maybe because I had a misconception of what this town was, but San Francisco is not the touristy city I expected. It is a touristic town, of course, but at the same time it is familiar. It is a city full of life with a relaxed vibe, where vegan food is not a problem, where we can walk for hours, where the gentleman of the corner cafe knows the name of all the customers, where the same cafe offers you some fresh fruits to eat with your Americano. It is a city in which I could see myself living, it is one of the only cities I would visit again.

We went to SF because we have a friend living there. During the day we walked, without anything planned, just to hang around. We went up on inclined streets, we suffered with the heat, we ate very well and, for the first time, they asked me for my identity card to serve me an alcoholic drink. For those who do not know, I'm 25 years old, and the barman thought I could be under the age of 21, how nice !!

From SF I bring good memories, a few photographs, the sympathy of unknown people and a great desire to return one day.

Thank you Zé and Rhea, for giving us a place to sleep and for having advised us of wonderful places to see and eat.

A morning catching Pokemons

Some of you must have rolled your eyes, others even identified yourselves, others are indifferent, right? Here at home we play and we take advantage of the long walks with the dogs to do it. Between playing and walking there is always time for some photos and of course my dogs are the protagonists.

How many of you (still) play?

Martim

2018-09-12T10:00:00.000+01:00

The little one was here this year. He came after my exams, and if I could, I would have him here forever. He brights up the house, Lì loves him, Bolacha tolerates him and we would love to have him here, every day, with us. Whenever he comes, I like to take him to places different from those he has in Portugal. This time we took him to a giant park in the middle of nature, surrounded by forest and we took him to the Rêve d'Aby (maybe I will talk about them in another post). The weather was not very good and it did not give us the chance to do much more, but I know that he always leaves with good memories, good experiences and above all, I know he feels we are his family. It makes me happy, refreshed and even more willing to have him here a next time.

Yosemite

2018-09-06T11:45:00.000+01:00

Yosemite was for me, together with the Grand Canyon, the highlight of this trip. We had a hotel booked near the Valley, we had plans, days full of hiking ahead. And actually nothing was as planned, I did not walk where I wanted to walk and did not see what I wanted to see. Is it necessarily a negative thing when our plans do not go as planned? Maybe not, we are often surprised and this was one of those times.

The day we arrived in Yosemite, the access to the Valley was closed due to heavy rain and would remain closed during the days when we were staying in Yosemite. This meant two things: we could not go to the hotel and all our plans would not be possible to realize. It was 10 PM, the nearest town was more than 1 hour away from the barriers that closed the access to the Valley. It rained a lot and we did not even have a signal to be able to call our hotel. Fortunately Yosemite is equipped with telephones and we were able to contact them. They informed us that it would not be possible to access the Valley until Sunday and that they were evacuating the zone: the river had transshipped. Not knowing very well what to do, we went back and prayed that the hotel inside the park was not absurdly expensive and had a room for four people. The hotel not only had a room for us, but it was cheaper and beautiful! The people were super friendly and they helped us with everything. We explained what we wanted to do, that we wanted to hike, see nature, and see the sights from up there. They advised us of waterfalls nearby - Chilnualna Falls - and they told us that most people were disappointed because the water never ran very strong, but since there had been so much rain, we would be lucky enough to catch them at their most beautiful point. And it was. The force of the water was frightening, the noise was wonderful and it was not even too warm. I was sad not to see the Valley, but I was glad to have had the opportunity to witness and experience this wonderful nature. Yosemite is a park I want to go back to. A week, maybe. Walk as much as possible. See every corner, every tree, every animal. It's beautiful, it's so beautiful.

For the more curious, we stayed at the Big Trees Lodge and I strongly recommend it. We chose rooms without bathroom, since they were cheaper and I advise everyone to do that. The bathrooms are incredibly clean.
