The current Marikina City Hall, located at the heart of Santa Elena, was constructed in 1969.

Marikina City Hall isn't just a center for permits and paperwork; it is a symbol of the city's transformation from a humble "shoe capital" to a multi-awarded, highly urbanized model city.

Before this building existed, the municipal government operated out of the Chanyungco House (a beautiful ancestral home located beside the Kapitan Moy Building in San Roque) and later a smaller building. The 1969 structure was built during the term of Mayor Osmundo de Guzman to accommodate the growing administrative needs of what was then a rapidly industrializing municipality.

This is the back of Marikina City Hall, but it looks as impressive as its facade.

To celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Riverbanks Center in Marikina City is hosting its fifth annual Marian exhibit. This year's event, titled “Aba ‘Ginoo’ Maria: Pag-asa ng aming Bayan” ("Hail Mary: Hope of our Nation") is its largest yet, featuring 96 images of the Blessed Virgin.

The exhibit showcases various Marian images with titles from Antipolo, Marikina, Manila, Quezon City, and Taytay, Rizal. The images on display are owned by camareros (caretakers), some of whom were invited to join, while others voluntarily participated.

The exhibit is a partnership with the San Jose Manggagawa Parish in Marikina. It is open to the public from September 7 to September 21 at Outlet Avenue, Riverbanks Center. Admission is free, and you can visit daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

All are welcome to visit and pray the Holy Rosary, which is recited daily at 6 p.m. in front of the image of Nuestra Señora de Fatima de Marikina.

How to Pay Online Your Real Property Tax in Marikina City

Real Property Tax (RPT) is an annual tax imposed on real estate properties, including land and buildings. It's a crucial source of revenue for local governments, like Marikina City, to fund public services.

The traditional way of paying for Real Property tax is by heading to Marikina City Hall’s Treasurer's Office to have your property tax computed. You can also pay right after an assessment of your property through their system.

One of the more convenient ways to have your real property tax computed and paid is online through the Marikina City government website. The entire process is very straight forward, simple to use, and takes only a few minutes to complete.

Follow these simple steps:

Logon to https://marikina.gov.ph. Look for the online services link in the top menu and select “Online Payment” from the dropdown options.

Sign in with your email and password. If you don’t have an account, click on “Sign Up” to create your new account. Once you successfully create your account, you can login.

Once logged in, click the right side, which says “City Treasury Department," to proceed to the real property tax section.

Click on “Add Real Property Unit” to retrieve details on your lot. Enter your PIN or tax declaration number and click on verify. You can find these details in your previous year’s real property tax receipt. If you own a house and lot, you will be enrolling one entry for your lot (L) and another entry for your house/building (B). You should see two entries if you successfully entered this information from your previous receipt.
Click the checkbox for both entries (left side), choose “1st Quarter” below, and enter the year “2025” to the right. Once completed, click on the "Compute Real Property Tax" button. This will compute the property tax due for that quarter. If you want to pay for the entire year, repeat the process and choose “2nd Quarter,” “3rd Quarter,” and “4th Quarter” to add property tax totals for the rest of the year. All totals will appear below under “Billing Detail.” The grand total will appear at the bottom right.
Click on the “Select Payment Option” and choose your preferred payment options. You can pay via PayMaya or credit card. A small convenience fee will be added to the total for using the E-payment service. After entering your payment details, click on “Complete Order.” Upon successful payment, you will see the screen saying “Payment successful” along with the amount and transaction details.
Click on “Back to Main Menu.”
Return to the list of your properties and click on the blue button under the “Action” column to list all tax payments made. You should see your newest payment listed at the top. Repeat this process for all other listed properties to verify their updates for the upcoming year.

Important Reminders:

Payment Deadline: Be mindful of the deadline for RPT payments to avoid penalties and interest charges. There are discounts for paying early, especially during December.
Proof of Payment: Keep a copy of your payment receipt for future reference.
Late Payment Penalties: Late payments may incur penalties, so it's advisable to pay on time.
Remember Your Username and Password: You can regularly check your real property tax status through the Marikina Online Services portal.

In the November 16, 2024 episode of “It’s Showtime,” thirty of the seventy daily winners have advanced to the semifinals of the “Kalokalike Face 4” lookalike contest. And one of them is Andre Santos from Marikina, who joined as a Carlos Yulo lookalike.

21-year-old Andre Santos has an uncanny resemblance to two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo. In September, Andres became the first daily winner of “Kalokalike Face 4” when the contest premiered.

Andre studied at Marist School in Marikina City. At the young age of seven, Andre developed an interest in sports. He started as a student athlete in track and field during elementary school and later became a varsity player in high school. Andre said that as early as 2020, his friends and classmates told him that he looked like Carlos Yulo. Andre also has an impressive muscular physique, as featured by Slimmers World SM Marikina.

Previously, Andre Santos was also lucky to meet the real two-time Olympic gold medalist, Carlos Yulo. Because of his striking likeness to the olympian, Andre has been a crowd favorite.

Marikina City will implement traffic rerouting schemes from October 31, to 2, 2024, to manage traffic congestion leading to the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

One-way traffic from October 31, 12:00 PM to November 2, 12:00 AM.
Only eastbound vehicles will be allowed on Barangka Flyover to Marikina Bridge.

Take Marcos Highway to Barangka Flyover or Barangka Underloop to A. Bonifacio Avenue.

SSS Village is one of the longtime neighborhoods in Marikina City. a lively residential place that is full of life. But its story doesn't start with builders and plans. Instead, it starts with a lucky break and a dream of owning a home.

A Raffle, A Dream, and 500 Lucky Filipinos: One of President Ferdinand Marcos's new ideas in 1969 was to hold a draw where 500 members of the Social Security System (SSS) would have the chance to own their own homes. The prize? A chance to own a house in a brand-new community called SSS Village. Our family was one of the lucky raffle winners given the chance to live in this Barangay in Concepcion Dos.

Colorful Beginnings: The lucky 500 moved into their new homes in 1975, full of joy. The homeowners' group was faced with their first challenge: naming the streets. Filipino song names were considered but not chosen because they were too long. They then looked at colors, and presto! Streets in Phases 1 and 2 of SSS Village were given bright names like Aquamarine, Green, Tangerine, Velvet, Olive, and Crimson.

From a humble start to a thriving community, SSS Village has grown over the years. As more phases were added, more schools and churches popped up, and people really cared about each other. Many of the people who lived in the village when it first opened saw their children grow up and start their own lives in the same place they knew so well. The village did face its own set of challenges and difficulties, such as floods, road repairs, renovation, and commercialization.

More Than Just Houses: These days, SSS Village is more than just houses. It’s a place where some businesses have sprouted, like a hotel, a convention center, and a couple of restaurants. Schools and places of worship are also accessible within SSS Village.

Countdown to the Big Day

Leading to the big day, the committee has lined up a series of fun and exciting activities for the enjoyment of the alumni. A motorcade kicked off last July that roamed along the streets of Marikina City. There are also mini sports tournaments like bowling, basketball, volleyball, billiards, and a Bingo social. Details of events are announced in the official Facebook group The High School SHOELANDERS.

Registration is now ongoing. Early bird is priced at P500 until September 30, and P700 starting from October 1-30, 2023.
