<itunes:summary>Ondine is the first of 3 compositions for the piano composed by Maurice Ravel, each of the pieces are inspired by a poem from A. Bertrand.

The poem "Ondine" is a tale of a water fairy singing to seduce the observer and accompany her to visit her kingdom deep at the bottom of the lake in the triangle of water, fire and earth.

You can download the Ondine - Ravel MP3 for freenbsp;right here. (If the download doesn't work, right click the link and choose : Save as).

As usual, this is a recording of a live performance by Marina Scalafiotti. For the amateurs : at the bottom of the post there's a video I made with this Ondine - Ravel MP3.

Here's the original "Ondine" poem in French, with translation in English:
......................Je croyais entendre
Une vague harmonie enchanter mon sommeil,
Et pregrave;s de moi s'eacute;pandre un murmure pareil
Aux chants entrecoupeacute;s d'une voix triste
et tendre.

CH. BRUGNOT.mdash;Les deux Geacute;nies.
................. I seemed to hear
A vague harmony enchanting my sleep
A murmur spreading near me
With songs interspaced by a sad
and tender voice.
par les mornes rayons de la lune;

mdash;laquo;Listen! Listen! It is me, it is Ondine
brushing with drops of water the resonant lozenges
of your window illuminated by the gloomy rays of the moon;
Here is, in my watered silk gown
the castle's Lady, admiring from her balcony,
the beautiful starlit night
and the beautiful lake asleep.
laquo; Each wave is an undine swimming in the flow,
Each flow is a path swirling towards my palace as a snake
my palace is liquid, on the bottom of the lake,
In the triangle of the fire, the earth and the air.

laquo;Eacute;coute!mdash;Eacute;coute!mdash;Mon pegrave;re bat l'eau coassante
ou se moquent du saule caduc et barbu qui pecirc;che agrave; la ligne.raquo;
Listen! Listen! My father beats the croaking water
With a green alder branch,
Whilst my sisters, with arms of foam,
Caress the cool islands of grass, of water-lilies,
And of gladioli, or mock the willow,
Bearded and decaying as he's fishing.raquo;

Her song thus murmured,
She implored me to have her ring on my finger,
So as to be husband to an Ondine,
To be able to accompany her to her palace
And be king of the lakes.

Et comme je lui reacute;pondais
que j'aimais une mortelle,
boudeuse et deacute;piteacute;e,
elle pleura quelques larmes,
poussa un eacute;clat de rire,
et s'eacute;vanouit en gibouleacute;es
qui ruisselegrave;rent blanches
le long de mes vitraux bleus.
But as I answered
that I loved a mortal,
Sulky and put out,
she shed a few tears,
Burst out laughing,
and vanished in spray
which trickled white,
down my blue stained windows.

<itunes:summary>The eight piano Sonata composed by Sergei Prokofiev in B-flat Major is composed of 3 movements:

It's the 8th of the 9 piano Sonatas that Sergei Prokofiev wrote. Unfortunately the tenth piano Sonata he was writing was never completed.

This 8th piano Sonata was composed in the period between 1939 and 1944, starting in the same period as Prokofiev's sixth and seventh piano Sonatas. All three sonatas are signed by the dark years of the war. The 8th Sonata was completed in 1944 and first performed on 30th December that year in the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory by the young pianist Emil Gilels.

Although not as popular as the Sixth and Seventh, the Eighth Sonata stands as perhaps the greatest of the cycle. Richter called it "the richest of all of Prokofiev's sonatas. It has a complex inner life with profound contrapositions."

Prokofiev made use of themes sketched in 1939, presumably associated with his first meeting with the woman to whom the work is dedicated : Mira Mendelsohn, who became Prokofiev's second wife years later.</itunes:summary>

This is the result. A bit unsatisfying, the microphone was too close to the piano, but still I think we'll be able to do great stuff with this toy.

And regarding Marina playing Liszt's Jeux d'eau agrave; Villa d'Este, what can I say, it was as always a joy for me to listen and record her music. I hope you can enjoy as much as I have been able to catch with the new microphone.</itunes:summary>
