CSubbalakshmi Lakshmipathy Foundation is a charitable trust in corporate form incorporated under Section 25 of the Company’s Act 1956, in the year 1989.

It was established with the objects of providing education to the poor, to establish, maintain, run, conduct, supervise, carryon institutions for the purpose of teaching in the Arts, Sciences, Studies relating to Accounting, Engineering and other branches of knowledge.

CMET prides in itself in teaching you what you need to know to be a competent Sailor/ Nautical Officer / Engineer Officer. The foundation stone of the institute was laid down by Capt H. Subramanian , then Principal , LBSCAMSAR, Mumbai on 10th April 1999 at its present place . Formerly the institute started by the name of Indian Institute of Maritime Studies , Lucknow . At the behest of DG Shipping, the name was changed to “CENTRE FOR MARITIME EDUCATION & TRAINING” in Year 2003.

CMET has a commitment to quality training. The Institute is ISO 9001:2000 Quality certified by Lloyd’s and rated Good institute by CRISIL Grading. All the courses offered at CMET are approved by Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India It is established in more than 3.5 acres of land in the city of Lucknow.CMET is the only institute in entire North India to offer a prestigious course like “Advanced Fire Fighting course”. Apart from AFF, CMET is offering about 12 Modular courses & 1 competency course approved by DG shipping,India.

The CMET is headed by Capt. Noor Iman Beg, Master Mariner ,who is Ex T.S. Rajendra, Master Mariner in Merchant Navy having 28 years of total experience . Having sailed with best companies in the Industry for 28 years out of which 18 years as Master mariner.

The faculty consists of 16 Full / part time members who are highly professional and having a vast working as well as teaching experience

Profile of MERI

The proud edifice at P-19, Taratalla Road, Calcutta 700088 Symbolizes the birth of Marine Engineering training in India.

The Institute was established at the onset of Independence in 1947 to satisfy the growing need of marine engineers in India. The Institution earlier named as Directorate of Marine Engineering Training had its headquarter in Calcutta and a branch at Mumbai, under Ministry of Shipping (Government of India). The Institute has been renamed Marine Engineering and Research Institute in 1994.

The Institute was a dream project of a new India as she was expanding her horizon in the maritime field, starting with an initial intake of 60 cadets, today about 300 young highly motivated Engineers are passing through her hallowed portals.

After 50 years since her inception Marine Engineering and Research Institute is regarded as the most acclaimed Marine Institute around the world. Starting off as a four year-training course, today, MERI’s students receive a Degree in Marine Engineering, duly approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The Institution takes immense pride in her alumni who at present apart from being regarded as one of the finest Marine Engineers around the globe, presently manning Shipping world over. She is also satisfying the present need of STCW-95 Convention of IMO and on the threshold of gaining recognition of ISO-9001. Profile of GRSE

The Company came into being in 1884 as a small factory on the Eastern Bank of the river Hooghly. It was renamed Garden Reach Workshop in 1916, and was incorporated as a Company under the Indian Companies Act of 1913 with effect from 26th February 1934 (Registration No. 7891 of 1933-34). The company was taken over by the Government of India on 1st April, 1960.

The Company was put on a dynamic path of growth and diversification and to reflect its multifarious activities in a true sense, the Company’s name was changed to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited with effect from 31st December 1976. GRSE has gradually expanded and modernised to meet growing maritime needs- particularly those of Indian Navy and Coast Guard.

Profile of Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

Cochin Shipyard was incorporated in the year 1972 as a fully owned Government of India company. In the last three decades the company has emerged as a forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding & Shiprepair industry. This yard can build and repair the largest vessels in India. It can build ships upto 1,10,000 DWT and repair ships upto 1,25,000 DWT. The yard has delivered two of India’s largest double hull Aframax tankers each of 95,000 DWT . CSL has secured shipbuilding orders from internationally renowned companies from Europe & Middle East and is nominated to build the country’s first indigenous Air Defense Ship.

Shipyard commenced ship repair operations in the year 1982 and has undertaken repairs of all types of ships including upgradation of ships of oil exploration industry as well as periodical lay up repairs and life extension of ships of Navy, UTL, Coast Guard, Fisheries and Port Trust besides merchant ships of SCI & ONGC. The yard has, over the years, developed adequate capabilities to handle complex and sophisticated repair jobs.

The Shipyard also trains graduate engineers to marine engineers who later join ships both Indian and foreign as 5th Engineers. 100 are trained every year.

Haldia Institute of Maritime Studies & Research (HIMSAR) is the first Maritime educational centre in Eastern Region offering Bachelor in Nautical Science (degree) programmes Degree is awarded by West Bengal University of Technology, widely recognized as one of India’s pre-eminent centres for Technology education. Profile of ONGC

In 1989, the Institute of Petroleum Safety, Health and Environment Management (IPSHEM) was established with the objective of promoting standards of safety, health and environment in petroleum sector in India. The Institute is committed to upgrade and develop human resources with a view to minimize the overall risk to human life, damage to property, process and the environment.

The main functions of the Institute are Training, Research and Development, Consultancy Services, Data bank and Information services and by serving in an Advisory capacity in evolving standards and procedures. The Institute offers training courses in Basic & Advanced Safety and Environment Management, Fire Safety, Offshore Survival & Safety and Coxswain Boat Handling etc. The offshore survival and safety and COXSWAIN program are practical training programs for offshore going personnel. It includes a certificate course in First Aid and Fire Fighting.

The picturesque IPSHEM site spreads over 101.5 hectares with an exclusive sea front 1.15 km is situated about 60 km away from Dabolim Airport at Betul village, South Goa, in close proximity to the well known Mobor Beach.

The Institute is being further upgraded by introducing Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) facility. Statistics show that 85% of accidents are caused by shortcoming in the system. It is, therefore, imperative that personnel engaged in this high risk and hazardous industry are exposed to latest issues and concepts involved in safety and environment management.

IPSHEM’s scientific and systematic HRD training programs are carefully conceptualized in theoretical and practical aspects to suit the requirements of target groups.

IPSHEM also plays an advisory role in a number of committees appointed by the Government of India for the purpose of framing of regulations, review of environmental plans, formulation of guidelines, etc.
