Finally, New Glasses!

At long last, B replaced his old pair of eyeglasses with a brand new one! We've been putting off this purchase for the longest time out of sheer laziness and lack of time. Whenever we do get some free time; we'd postpone a trip to the optician but yesterday, B was on leave and we decided to finally get him a new pair of glasses. No Boston Laser Eye Surgery for my darling; he still prefers the traditional glasses to correct his vision.

I was there for moral support of course; all the while eyeing the gorgeous new sunglasses that just arrived. But seeing that this was B's day of shopping, I resisted the urge to get new shades for me and focus on B instead.

The store was having a huge mega sale with discounts up to 50% so we spent a good twenty minutes walking around, choosing the best pair for B. We were torn between the Armani and the Hugo Boss frames. Both look good on B and as usual, fickle Mariuca was not much help in helping him decide on the best one!

In the end, B made his selection and we paid for his new glasses. It will take up to 5 working days to have it ready so until then, B has to continue wearing his old glasses. I usually hate waiting but this time it's okay. So long as he continues wearing glasses, old or new; my darling B still remains appealing in my eyes!

Busy but Lazy!

I was talking to my friend Monica earlier and we both agree that the lazy bug is in the air! We're just feeling so sluggish nowadays. For me, that's really not good since I actually have a lot of work on my plate like the new life insurance quotes job I received yesterday. As usual, my deadline is tight and with the weekend just around the corner, it is taking a lot of effort for me to get started on my work.

When I first started working, I didn't know much about insurance at all. I knew that it was important and one should consider it during major life moments like when you're buying a new home or getting married and having a baby but that was about it. I failed to appreciate the importance of insurance in ensuring our comfort in practically all aspects of our lives.

Over the years, I worked on a lot of insurance products, which helped me understand the product better. And now, insurance plays an important part in my married life. When you're in it for the long-run with your other half, you have to make security and protection a main priority. B and I have several insurance plans and I'm not opposed to upgrading when necessary. It's better to be safe than sorry right?

Anyway, I am feeling so lazy despite having so many things to do! I need a pick-me-up to get me started on my new job. Right now, all I can think of is my warm cosy bed. More coffee perhaps?

I'm still so sleepy after my 7-hour sleep; something is not right! I have not done my Adgitize or EC rounds and I hope to be on posting frenzy tonight. Bittersweet Tribute *

I tuned in to Michael Jackson's memorial at 1am this morning. With the rest of the world glued to our TV sets, I paid my respect to our beloved King of Pop as he was given the world's biggest tribute by the best in the music world.

It was an occasion not to be missed by any music lover, for it was the very last time we would see MJ in all his remembered glory, before he was laid to rest. I could not miss it and though B was falling asleep halfway through, I was wide awake.

There were many notable performances given to our King of Pop, starting with Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz who gave a beautiful rendition of I'll Be There. It was just so sad to see Mariah choked up as she sang her beautiful voice and words for Michael.

I was also moved by Brooke Shields' speech and recollection of her memories and lifelong friendship with dear Michael. Giving us a personal insight into her special bond and relationship with Michael, she got us remembering MJ in a fun and loving way. John Mayer gave a beautiful performance as well, strumming his guitar to MJ's hit tune, Human Nature and I was most touched by Usher's Gone Too Soon performance, which I truly felt was the best, most moving tribute and farewell to Michael.

Each performance was significant and beautiful in their own way but I was moved to tears when MJ's only daughter Paris, sobbed her goodbye to her beloved Dad. It was just a choked-up moment for everyone to watch. The love and connection this poor little girl shared with her Dad whom she not only loved, but admired as well was simply undeniable. Truly it was the saddest moment of the whole service and I was glad she had the wonderful Jackson clan to comfort her.

A nostalgic and bittersweet occasion all around, that was the mood felt at the memorial; at least for me who viewed it till the end. I'm glad I did not miss this tearful tribute for MJ. It comforted me to know that the whole world is deeply saddened by the loss of our music icon so I was pleased that Michael was given the proper farewell and tribute he rightfully deserved.

Goodbye Michael! We love you always and truly, you will remain as the greatest music legend of all time.

My Perfume Addiction

Some people take to the bottle for comfort. Others enjoy a puff or two on their nicotine break. My not so secret addiction however lies in my passion and craze for shopping, specifically perfumes. I adore perfume! It's been my passion since I was a little girl and the addiction keeps on growing, year by year.

A typical perfume relapse begins with a smile when I discover a new perfume store. With ambience this cosy and decor this pretty, it's hard not to be enticed by the store sign, so in we go!

Follow me downstairs as we check out what's waiting for me down below. I feel an automatic adrenaline rush, as more addicts do when they know their fix is coming soon!

The sight of all the lovely scent-sational perfume bottles, in all their splendid glory immediately excites my senses and I am in perfume haven. I can spend hours inside a perfume store, savouring each scent and admiring the beautiful bottles they come in.

I am engrossed and in my delicious deliriousness, I end up buying more than I had come for. But that's how an addiction is. It's hard to stop yourself from wanting more!

I ended up with two of these lovely beauties and only then, did I happily leave the store; content with my perfume fix as I wait for another relapse when I discover yet another new perfume store.

I still say my addiction is much better than those hard-core addictions so there is no urgency or need for me to enroll in one of those anonymous recovery groups just yet. If you however have an addiction you would like to overcome, do give InTheRooms Meetings a visit.

June Top EC Droppers **

Entrecard is taking action against bounce rate; which basically means we can no longer drop and run when doing our EC rounds. Dropping and running will no longer earn you credit.

Reducing bounce rate is definitely positive and it aspires towards ultimate success for EC and its members but penalizing me for drop and run by not giving credit is a tad too much. Everybody drops and runs, there is no way anyone can spend so much time reading and commenting on every single blog that drops on our site! And what if we're seriously not interested in the given blog topics? Or what if a blog has not been updated for weeks? We gotta force ourselves to comment and interact?

I am keen to see how this new development works out. So far, this is what Entrecard has to say.

"Starting soon, “dropping and running” will no longer give you credit. We are developing a proprietary algorithm to determine whether or not you engaged in the blog you visited in some way. If you did not engage in the blog, you will not get credit. We won’t be disclosing exactly the algorithm we use, so that people can’t game it easily."

On a happier note, EC did keep their cash out promise to me and I am happy to report that I've received 3 payments from EC so far. It took them almost 2 months to make payment but at least they honoured their agreement so that's good!

Lush Shopping in Japan

Not having the convenience of a luxurious bathtub in my medium-size bathroom definitely did NOT deter me from shopping for my favourite bath products from Lush during my Tokyo vacation last month! I can still enjoy my scent-sational delights when I escape to one of my hotel getaways, which always includes a huge inviting bathtub for me to luxuriate in during my stay. Plus, I am still waiting and hoping for Lush to arrive here in Malaysia so until then, there's really no harm in splurging at Lush whenever one comes my way!

Ready for Lush

I visited two different Lush stores, one in Shinjuku and another in Roppongi. I almost made it a 3-store visit with the Lush outlet at Narita airport but there was just no time for last-minute shopping before we had to board the plane. The two Lush visits that I did manage to squeeze into our agenda however saw me happily stocking up on the scented bath balls and bubble bar slices I love so much!

Seriously, how could I possibly refuse splurging on Lush when everything looks so irresistible and smells so yummy? Each Bubble Bar Slice contains water softening bicarbonate of soda and fine-smelling essential oils. Crumbling a piece under running bath water will leave a very generous amount of foam, filling the tub with delicious scents that not only get me clean and smelling sweet but also leave my skin feeling extra fresh and soft to the touch. The entire bathroom smells so delightful after a luscious Lush bath!

Scent-sational Delights!

I was a little lavish on my shopping but I still say it was money well spent. After all, Lush shopping is not an everyday affair for me. I'm just so happy with all my purchases and now, I can't wait for my next hotel getaway so I can indulge in my scent-sational Lush delights! When will that be?

Singapore Next?

On my recent trip to Tokyo, we stopped by Singapore while waiting for our flight to Narita. With 2 hours to kill, we had a late dinner at Changi airport and I snapped some pictures of Hard Rock Cafe while shopping. I also finally got myself officially into B's HRC shot glass collection by getting him a nice special edition HRC shot glass from Singapore YAY!

The last time I vacationed in Singapore was more than 2 years ago. I'd love to take a short vacation in Singapore again especially next month when B's favourite football team Liverpool is scheduled to arrive for a friendly match and visit to Lion City! It would make a great gift for B, an early birthday present if you will. Me sponsoring him a Singapore getaway to watch his favourite team in action! How great of a present would that be?

Perfume Shopping in Japan! **

I'm back and what a wonderful time I had in Japan! What was memorable for me this time around while shopping for my perfume gallery here was that I remembered to bring along MPG on this trip! If previously Mariuca went to New York, this time it's MPG's turn to head over to the Land of the Rising Sun!

I bought only 10 perfumes this vacation and though I wanted to buy more, most of the selections are already in my collection. I can't tell right now just how many perfume bottles this brings my current total to but I am loving the pic here! Don't they look splendid? I took this picture the very same night I bought all my perfumes, obviously excited with my new buy! Indeed, Tokyo was another scent-sational vacation for Mariuca and Mariuca's Perfume Gallery YAY!

Well what else can I say except that I truly adore the new MPG makeover given to me by the talented and the lovely LadyJava of LadyJava Creations!

After much conferring with LJ, I decided to go with this current template you see here as it is more user-friendly than the one I initially wanted. However, LJ did her magic and turned the second template into exactly what I had envisioned for Mariuca's Perfume Gallery! I totally love my new look and while I am still playing around with my sidebar widgets, it is simply perfect. MPG has never looked or felt more scent-sational than she is right now and it's all thanks to none other than my BFF, the blog makeover Queen, Lady Java!

I just love the way MPG looks now; she does seem more lively and welcoming with this lighter pink theme. If you noticed, I also changed my background to a subtler pink. While still keen on a pink theme here, I also wanted a lighter background to lift my spirits, which works beautifully for I feel totally relaxed and inspired every time I peek inside my Perfume Galley now!

MPG also got herself a new menu bar with sub-menu items. And now, there's finally a Twitter button at the bottom right corner of my page. So if you have not followed Mariuca on Twitter yet, you can easily do so now just by clicking my new Twitter button.

Overall, I am truly pleased and 100% satisfied with my MPG's new look. Getting a makeover for my perfume blog was exactly what I needed to rejuvenate my blogging spirit and now I am even more inspired to post here. I urge each and every one of you to get a makeover for your blog so you too can experience the heady feeling of excitement, thrill and pure pleasure I am feeling right this minute with my beautiful new look!

As my final post at MPG this month, I've decided to go with a cool new quiz from Blogthings. This one is perfect for me seeing that I'm planning to get a new look tomorrow! So I happily took the test and my answer is brown, which is actually the colour I'm toying with right now. Thanks Blogthings, I'll be able to walk into the salon tomorrow with more confidence now; knowing that I made a good choice with brown!

Another Makeover? *

I am contemplating another makeover for MPG! A little rejuvenation is in need here especially after the recent PR update, which although elevated Wishing on a Falling Star to a PR4 and bestowed Meow Diaries with a very encouraging PR3, left poor sweet Mariuca's Perfume Gallery stranded with a big fat 0!

A makeover pick-me-up is what I need to refresh my perfume blog, which I hope will inspire me to post more often here. Beautifying MPG with a new template is bound to make me feel better about my scent-sational blog, which unfortunately seems to be neglected by Mr. G ever since she moved to her own domain.

So I'm in discussion with my webmaster LJ about a new template and facelift for MPG. I don't trust anyone but LJ to do my makeovers by the way and if you drop by LadyJava Creations, you'll know why. Her work defines complete professionalism and expertise so a non-HTML person like me would feel totally safe and secure to let her handle the full switch from my current template to the one I have yet to decide. Whatever it is, I know I'll be in excellent hands with LJ handling my makeover but you can still wish me luck if you like!

I am in the mood for a little Don Henley tonight. This is definitely one of my favourite picks from this sexy husky-voiced singer. Doesn't this one just take you back in time to when you were deliriously happy; surrendering to reckless abandonment with that special someone that one hot summer?

The song begins after about 10 seconds into the video, so be a little patient while you wait for the video to load. This isn't the original music video either, but it's really nice to watch anyway. As mentioned at my other blog, I'm in the mood for some 80s music this week, so enjoy this one from 1984 and happy Music Monday!

My friend Monica is adorable! She loves taking Blogthings quizzes but she's never had one at her blog before. Few days back, while chatting online with her, she asked me to have another quiz from Blogthings soon. I am happy to oblige of course since Blogthings totally rocks!
