Thus each logo/image used in a mobile web layout, required a duplicate image, at a higher resolution. Then with a bit of CSS3 Media Query magic, you’d check the resolution of the user’s mobile device and if higher than X, you’d display the higher resolution image.

So not a massive time-sink, but on a site with loads of CSS’d images etc, you can see the potential time required to retina-display-ify a mobile site.

If the Apple rumor-mill is to be believed, the new Macbook Pro and iMac lines could be getting retina displays.

This now means that responsible developers will need to go through all their sites, themes, client work etc and add a new layer of images & code to cater for these higher-resolution displays.

I don’t see any quick way out of this either… Whilst a plugin could perhaps cater for the code side of the required tweakage, it requires a higher resolution image which no plugin is able to do.

So bottom line is us developers and designers – all of us, not just those of us who do mobile sites – are going to have to spend a fair chunk of time preparing our sites for the enslaught of new retina enabled devices. What do you think? Am I making a big deal of nothing?

Blake quickly rose through the ranks of local jocks and a big break was just ahead. Some high profile bookings brought on a chance meeting with Armada Music’s head aficionado Armin Van Buuren. After listening to a few of his original productions, Armin contacted Blake and soon after he joined the Armada artist roster. Since that time Armin has invited Blake on several of his world tours as an exclusive special guest performer. Finally, Blake cemented his relationship with Armada Music when he joined a select group of international stars for full summer residencies at Armada’s weekly shindig at Amnesia in Ibiza in 2007 and 2008.

Last night, in ASOT499, @arminvanbuuren confirmed the set times for his shows. Now, a short while ago he announced an extra show for only 500 people in Cape Town on the 17th. I managed to organize tickets to that event, as well as his press conference earlier on the same day. I was expecting to see only Armin for that small gig but surprise surprise, the whole lineup of DJ’s – with the exception of Super8 & Tab – will be performing short 1 hour sets for the pre-party in Cape Town. Sweeet! :)

It gets even better… They’ve done like a kind of matchbox opening effect that gives you 2 neat rows of individually wrapped gum.

In terms of flavor, its not as vicious as Airwaves, but it holds its flavor for a surprising amount of time, and lets face it, that’s what you’re after – something that lets you chew it for a couple hours, not something that takes your face off for 2 minutes and then becomes a piece of cardboard.

I’m not marketing guru, but IMO its this kind of repackaging that makes people take notice of a brand/product/item that doesn’t have much in the way of brand loyalty. Nice going.
