The Nashua Board of Education and Superintendent Mark Conrad have scheduled a budget committee meeting for Thursday, February 23, 2012.

This meeting is devoted to public comment on the proposed operating budget for the upcoming school year. You are invited to attend.

The meeting will begin at 7 pm in the NHS North auditorium.

The meeting will also be broadcast live on Nashua ETV, the local cable education channel, channel 99; and streaming here from my site.

The Nashua Solid Waste Department and the Four Hills Landfill /
Nashua Recycling Center will be closed on Monday, February 20 on
Presidents’ Day. Therefore, collections of trash and recyclables will be
delayed for one day throughout the week.

Operations will resume on Tuesday, February 21 when Monday’s routes
will be picked up. Tuesday’s routes will be collected on Wednesday, February
22, Wednesday’s routes on Thursday, February 23, Thursday’s routes will be
picked up on Friday, February 24, and Friday’s routes on Saturday, February
25. Residents are asked to have barrels and bins at curbside by 6:45 am on
their collection day, and to be sure to clear snow and ice from an area at
curbside for carts and bins, if necessary.

NASHUA – Portland Pie Co. will open its Nashua doors in a week, just in time for the Super Bowl.

The 14-year-old local restaurant chain, a Maine-based company, will open a newly renovated Railroad Square building on Thursday, Feb. 2, according to a company spokeswoman.

The restaurant will hire 50 people to be able to serve up the signature gourmet pies from the former Cattleman’s Sandwich Shop on Canal Street, according to spokeswoman Dianna Fletcher.

The newest location is the company’s fifth restaurant and pub. Since 2006, the company has operated three locations in Maine – in Portland, Westbrook and Scarborough – and one in Manchester, Fletcher said.

Cattleman’s closed in 2009 after a van ran into the historic building and subsequent inspections led to the city condemning the building.

Portland Pie Co. demolished two wings of the building that previously housed Cattleman’s and Speed Queen Laundromat.

The project included a complete renovation of the interior. It will now seat 140 people in the 5,000-square-foot dining room and pub areas. Another 45 seats will be added to an outside dining and lounge deck during the summer, Fletcher said.

Joe O’Neil, the company’s chief operating officer, said four of the company’s five locations required major renovations in downtown areas.

“Although these downtown projects require a much larger capital investment, it’s part of Portland Pie’s mission to bring improvements to downtown neighborhoods,” O’Neil said.

The restaurant also will deliver to all of Nashua and part of Hudson and Merrimack, Fletcher said.
