LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) is inviting residents to his next coffee hour on Friday, Jan. 28, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Biggby Coffee in Okemos. Meadows holds regular coffee hours in the community to meet with constituents and discuss their thoughts, ideas and concerns. Biggby Coffee is located at 3520 Okemos Road, Suite 7 in Okemos. Meadows Unveils Legislation to Prevent Abuse of Bridge Cards: Lawmaker aims to ban their use for lottery tickets, alcohol and tobacco products

LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) has introduced a bill in the Michigan House of Representatives to prohibit residents from using the Michigan Bridge Card to purchase lottery tickets, alcohol and tobacco products. It will also prohibit users from withdrawing cash from an ATM. Meadows introduced similar legislation during last year's legislative session. "The Bridge Card can be a useful tool in helping families afford vital necessities and make ends meet," Meadows said. (click for more)

LANSING – In an effort to reduce the financial burden on communities across Michigan, State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) today joined his Republican colleagues including Eileen Kowall (R-White Lake) in introducing a bipartisan plan to stop unfunded statutory mandates. As the former Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Meadows was instrumental in crafting a similar plan during last year's legislative session. "Unfunded mandates have become a heavy financial burden that our communities simply can't afford," said Meadows, Democratic Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Committee. LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) today announced the winners of the 69th District Citizenship Award for December. The monthly award is given to local high school students who exhibit strong leadership within their schools and communities; demonstrate a mutual respect for others in the school community; and exemplify hard work and responsibility in the classroom. This month, Meadows is also recognizing the lives of Joshua and Whitney Eady of East Lansing High School (ELHS), whose lives were cut short by an automobile accident in October. (click for more)

LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) has introduced legislation (House Bill 6425) in the Michigan House of Representatives to restore guaranteed health care benefits for retired teachers and other public employees in Michigan in order to help provide them with a secure retirement. "I recently voted against school employee bills that had nothing for current school employees except a reduction in their pay," Meadows said. "I am now confronted with another bill for state employees that also has nothing for active employees except a tax on existing employees' wages without any corresponding benefit in retirement health care.
