NEW DELHI: Let's start with a few questions. Do you value clear and sharp photographs? Will you pay top dollars for images that truly stand out? Do you love your kids in portrait pictures, which have the subject in clear focus and a background that is smooth and blurred? Do you like to take pictures of your friends while you are partying in a dimly-lit bar?

If your answer to these questions is no, Fujifilm X100S is not a camera for you.

If the answer is yes, the X100S may turn out to be the perfect gadget for you. But don't take out your wallet yet. Despite its brilliance, the camera has issues.

We will talk about deal-breakers but first let's take a look at what makes the X100S a really good camera.

Excellent build quality
The X100S has a retro design and it looks exquisite. The grey magnesium alloy and black plastic give the camera rigidity and premium finish that is clearly superior to what most of other shooters offer. The device feels good in hand and the grip, when you are taking an image with it, feels natural and comfortable. It is not big but at the same time won't fit in the pocket of your jeans.

Easy to use
The best part about the X100S handling is the way controls have been positioned. A dial near the shutter-release button can be used to change shutter speed on the fly. The aperture ring on the lens can be used to make necessary adjustment with ease.

Other features can be accessed through buttons placed around the 2.8-inch LCD screen. Of particular note is the Q button, which gives a quick access to more common options and settings like white balance and filters.

Decent viewfinder
One of the problems with any camera that is not a DSLR is the viewfinder. Most cameras don't have it. And while many enthusiast-oriented models have a viewfinder, they use an electronic viewfinder, which is dim and blurry, instead of optical one. The X100S has an hybrid viewfinder, which can switch between optical and electronic mode. The optical viewfinder in X100S doesn't compare well to what you will find on most DSLR cameras but it is good enough. It is bright and clear. And it provides 100% frame coverage.

Fast focus
The X100S has an almost DSLR-like speed in acquiring accurate focus. Though in extremely low light it hunts for a second or two before it can lock on to the subject, it is not something unexpected. In other conditions, X100S is blazing fast. There is a dedicated focus button near the rear screen that allows users to change the focus point with ease. More advanced users can also use the focus ring on the lens and compose the image manually.

Very good image quality
All cameras die or live by the kind of pictures and videos they can shoot. The X100S performs admirably in all conditions. This is largely due to the fact that it houses an APS-C sized image sensor inside its body despite the compact size. Image quality depends a lot on the sensor size and lens. Compared to most point and shoot cameras, the image sensor in the X100S is almost 15 times bigger. This helps the X100S capture and process details and lights in a better way. X100S can shoot 16 mega-pixel images.

We shot hundreds of images with the camera and found that it produced detailed and sharp photos. The camera is particularly good in handling noise, even at high ISO level. In good lighting conditions, the camera had no issue producing images that were detailed and had nice punchy colours. In low light, it benefited from the large sensor and the F2 (big aperture) lens, capturing a lot of light and producing images that had acceptable amount of noise.

X100S shoots fantastic portraits and macro pictures, with the big aperture creating a shallow and smooth background that photography enthusiasts know as bokeh.

If you want, you can shoot in RAW with the X100S.

With videos, the story is same. The X100S can record some quality videos in FullHD resolution irrespective of the lighting conditions.

But there are two big problems with X100S

Fixed focal length
Yes, that's right. The lens in the X100S has a fixed focal length. You can't zoom in or zoom out in a scene. You want your subject bigger? Walk towards it. You want to cover more area? Move back to frame your image. Also, the lens is fixed. The X100S is not a camera where you can change the lens. The X100S lens has a focal length of 23mm (effective around 35mm because the sensor has a crop factor of 1.5). This means it is good enough for most of the scenes. But lack of zoom takes away the fun from the photography. It also means that X100S is not an all-purpose camera.

Very expensive
Another problem with the X100S is the price. Yes, it is an exquisitely designed camera that is capable of taking great pictures. But with an MRP of Rs 74,999, it is too pricey.

Should you buy it?
Probably not. If you are looking to buy a all-purpose camera that can take great pictures, shooters from Sony's NEX series or Samsung's NX series are better deals compared to the X100S. And they cost significantly less. These cameras may not have the elegant and comfortable design that the X100S has but they offer similar image quality as well as an option to change lens depending on the situation. Also, if you are not averse to the bulk of a DSLR camera, for less than Rs 75,000 you can get a great shooter like Nikon D7000.

That said the X100S does have its merits. It is more elegant than a DSLR or a mirrorless camera. It is also much easier to use and tend to produce fantastic images with minimum effort. If you are a photography enthusiast who already has another camera, preferably a DSLR or an ultrazoom camera, and wants something that is smaller and fun to use, the X100S totally makes sense. For others, it is too expensive for what it does.
Mumbai: Zen joins the league of home-brewed smartphone makers offering superior features at an affordable price. The company has launched the Ultrafone 701HD smartphone priced at Rs 11,999, sporting a 5-inch display and running on a quad-core processor.

The smartphone rivals Micromax's A116 Canvas HD, which features a similar set of superior features such as quad-core processor, 5-inch display, 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing camera. However, Zen has priced the device much lower as the Canvas HD is available for Rs 14,999.

Zen continues the latest trend of large screen smartphones by employing a 5-inch HD IPS capacitive display. Fuelled by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor that clocks at 1.2GHz, the smartphone supports dual SIM (GSM + GSM). Just like the Canvas HD, it has an 8MP rear camera, but offers a tad higher 3.2MP front facing camera.

The Ultrafone 701HD also brings to you the latest flavour of Android operating system, as it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It offers 4GB of internal space, which is expandable up to 32GB via the microSD card slot. On the connectivity front, one will find support for 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
Have you ever sat down for a Google Analytics analysis session and stopped poring over the results for a moment to wonder exactly how many people are looking at your website, right now? I sure have, and just in case you have too, Google Analytics has been making it easier and easier to find out.

The real-time feature was first rolled out in September 2011, and though other analytics providers had already been providing real-time data for years, none did it as well or as inexpensively (that is, for free) as Google. Recently, Google seems to have been paying more attention to real time tools, leading to some updates to real-time reports back in March, and some new widgets for real-time reporting on April 16.

Why Should Anyone Care About Real-Time Analytics?

In years gone by, traffic was slow to come by and booms and busts were longer in duration. Because of the proliferation of social media the idea of “trending topics” makes everything relevant for shorter periods of time, as one trend gives way to the next. Since trends can spread like wildfire for a short period of time and then be instantaneously doused by the next big thing, it’s important to know about exciting increases in traffic and engagement as soon as they happen. Knowing about dramatic traffic increases as they are in the process of occurring allows you to better capitalize on them – perhaps by highlighting a piece of content to the main page of your site, or offering a limited time discount to your new visitors.

There are also some extremely useful ways to use the new reporting features. If you have implemented tracking code to monitor your advertising initiatives, now you can immediately test to make sure it’s working – meaning you won’t miss out on any valuable data as you struggle to get it working.

Another way to use the real-time features is to monitor the effect of your offline advertising as it’s happening. If you’ve bought a radio or television ad, you can watch your traffic explode during the run of the advertisement and for the minutes after. And if you buy a spot in a newspaper or magazine, you can watch the traffic start flowing in as soon as you’re hot off the press.

Okay, I get It. Now how do I see how Many People are on My Site?

In Google Analytics, you should see Real-Time as an option in the left sidebar under Standard Reports. If you go to the Overview, you will see a summary of what is happening right now on your website – exactly how many active visitors are browsing, what portion of them are new or returning, the top referring websites and social sites, and what keywords they’re coming in on. There’s also a scrolling timeline of your pageviews for the past 30 minutes, a list of the most active pages, and a world map showing the most actively engaged parts of the world.

You can drill down to see locations, traffic sources, popular content, and events in greater detail.

What Other Real-Time Features are Available?

In the March update, Google added several new features. The Events section is new, which pulls from the event actions you’ve defined for your website to show you what is being triggered in real time. Under the Content report, you can now see what type of device is being used to access your website: desktop, tablet, and mobile. You can now create shortcuts for segments you particularly like – for example if you just want to see your United States visitors in real-time, or your mobile users. In addition, now when you drill down to a more specific segment, there is a checkbox above the scrolling timeline that lets you compare it to all traffic.

In the most recent update, Google added the ability to create a real-time widget in the form of a counter, timeline, map, or table. To add a real-time widget to an existing dashboard, navigate to your Dashboards section and choose “+ Add Widget” from the menu at the top. When selecting the widget type, be sure to choose from the four real-time options instead of the standard options.

How are you planning to use Google Analytics for real-time reporting? Share your plans or ideas in the comments!
Mumbai: HTC has unveiled a new phone in Taiwan. Curiously,
however, the phone doesn't follow the current naming trend that the
company has adopted. Instead of the "One" branding, the handset goes
oldschool HTC with the name Desire L.

The phone comes equipped with a 4.3-inch SLCD 2 display with a WVGA
resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It\'s powered by a 1GHz processor.

The handset sports low-end specs and seems to be aimed towards
the budget market. It comes equipped with a 4.3-inch SLCD 2 display with
a WVGA resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It's powered by a 1GHz
processor. For imaging, it's equipped with a 5 megapixel rear camera,
but it lacks a front-facing camera. It also has the Beats Audio drivers
that HTC includes in its phones.

The phone seems to be available in three colours - black, white
and pink. Looking at the pictures, it seems to be running either Sense 4
or Sense 4+. It is unknown whether the phone will get the Sense 5
update.

While the phone has been announced on the HTC Taiwan website, there
seems to be no word from the company regarding a possible international
version of the smartphone.

SYDNEY: Microblogging platform Tumblr has confirmed its entire service had been taken offline earlier this morning, but all network issues have been resolved.

The latest outage is just the most recent of a series of embarrassing setbacks for the company, which began last December, news.com.au reports.

A Tumblr spokesperson told internet news site TheNextWeb that they were experiencing networking issues and are working quickly to remedy the situation.

Tumblr recently boasted it had passed 100 million blogs, with a total of 44.6 billion postings.

The microblogging site however did not give further explanation for the outage.
Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that begins in the breast tissue. Basically there are two main types of breast cancer which are Ductal carcinoma and Lobular carcinoma. Only in rare cases the breast cancer can start in other areas of the breast.

This type of cancer can be invasive and non-invasive. It is the most common type of cancer in women and one out of eight women are likely to be diagnosed with this type of cancer. Some of these points were discussed in medical trade exhibition 2013.

Last year to create awareness for breast cancer, Bollywood hotty Bipasha and macho hunk Milind Somand teamed up and took an initiative at ‘ Pinkathon 2012’ a marathon for women. Bipasha opined that she was delighted to be a part of the event and hopes that every woman comes forward to support for this cause.

In recent months even long leg beauty Shilpa Shetty has shown her concern about breast cancer. Last month, Healthcare Global Enterprise Ltd held a press conference and introduced the 1st Breast Cancer APP in India. This will also be showcased in medical Events in Taiwan. It will help to dispel the myths about this cancer.

The APP explains about various self examination techniques for women, FAQs on breast cancer and facts on breast cancer. The name of the APP is HCG BCA. It can be downloaded on any Android phone for free from Google play store. It is true that breast cancer is a much neglected ailment in India and rarely discussed in list of medical events calendar 2013. Events like will make women aware of this disease.

Apple has quietly rolled out its media streaming device, Apple TV, in India at a starting price of Rs. 8,295.

With the launch of Apple TV, the company’s full portfolio of Apple products are finally available in India.

Not to be confused with the company’s rumoured television set, Apple TV allows consumers to wirelessly stream media content from their iTunes account to their television.

An Apple spokesperson, who confirmed the development, said that the device would be out in retail stores over the next week.

“Yes, we have launched the product. It will be out in our authorised resellers in the next seven to ten days,” the spokesperson said.

The move comes less than two months after Apple launched its iTunes store in India, selling high-definition movies at prices starting from Rs. 490.

Apple TV is widely expected to be part of a bigger rollout of the company’s rumoured television set as it would help smooth out any possible compatibility issues.

The device faces competition from Micromax’s Smart Stick and Akai’s Smart Box.
Ambala: A trade union leader, who was squatting along with a group of workers near the local bus depot as part of the two-day nationwide strike call, today died when he was hit by a bus in his bid to stop it from plying, a senior Roadways official said in Ambala.

"The incident took place around 4 am this morning when Narender Singh, a bus driver by profession, tried to stop the vehicle which was being taken out from the Ambala Depot despite the strike," district president, Haryana Roadways Workers Union's, Inder Singh Bhadana told reporters.

Bhadana alleged that the district administration tried to forcibly ply the bus, which hit Singh, who was also the treasurer of a AITUC union, killing him on the spot.

After the incident, the other workers resorted to violence damaging vehicles belonging to the Ambala's Deputy Commissioner of Police and SHO of the Baldev police station area, police said.

Meanwhile, Bhadana demanded a case to be lodged against the General Manager of the Roadways. They said they will not allow the body to be cremated until this is done.

In view of the tense situation, heavy police force had been deployed at the bus depot and its surrounding areas.

Earlier, however, AITUC General Secretary Gurudas Dasgupta said that the victim was allegedly stabbed to death by some miscreants.
NEW DELHI: It's been a long time coming, but users in India can finally purchase or rent digital content (Indian and international movies or music) from Apple's iTunes store.

To access the store, users can click on 'iTunes Store' after starting
up the iTunes software on their computer or simply access the iTunes Store on their portable iOS device (iPod, iPhone or iPad).

This also means that the popular Apple
TV device will now 'work' in India - with proper access to digital
content and your own iTunes purchased content. Songs are priced at Rs 12
per track, music videos at Rs 15 each and movies are priced
between.`290 to 490 (depending on popularity and resolution).

If you prefer, you can also 'rent' movies at Rs 80 (Bollywood) or Rs 120
(international). Once you rent a movie, you have 30 days to start
watching it and 48 hours once you start watching it — you can start and
resume the movie within that time frame.

After you download and
watch the movie, it disappears from your drive automatically. Purchased
movies can be watched at any time, on any device, any number of times.
For users who don't have a credit card or don't want to use a card, the
option is to purchase iTunes Gift Cards in denominations of Rs 1,000, Rs
1,500, Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000.

The gift cards can be either
ecards, sent to the recipient over email or actual printed cards,
delivered free. Also available at a subscription price of Rs 1,200 per
year is the iTunes Match service.

iTunes Match uploads
information about your entire music library online in iCloud, no matter
how many songs you have in your devices. These include any songs you may
have copied from CDs that you own or used to own.

Putting your
music library in iCloud allows you to have one single, large music
library that is accessible from all your devices - be it an Apple TV,
iPod, iPhone, iPad or computer.

Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company will move production of one of its
existing lines of Mac computers from China to the United States next
year.Industry watchers said the announcement is both a cunning
public-relations move and a harbinger of more manufacturing jobs moving
back to the U.S. as wages rise in China.

Cook made the comments in
part of an interview taped for NBC's "Rock Center," but aired Thursday
morning on "Today" and posted on the network's website.
In a
separate interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, he said that the company
will spend $100 million in 2013 to move production of the line to the
U.S. from China.

"This doesn't mean that Apple will do it
ourselves, but we'll be working with people and we'll be investing our
money," Cook told Bloomberg.

That suggests the company could be
helping one of its Taiwanese manufacturing partners, which run factories
in China, to set up production lines in the U.S.
devoted to Apple
products. Research firm IHS iSuppli noted that both Foxconn Technology
Group, which assembles iPhones, and Quanta Computer Inc., which does the
same for MacBooks, already have small operations in the U.S.

Apple representatives had no comment Thursday beyond Cook's remarks.
Like
most consumer electronics companies, Apple forges agreements with
contract manufacturers to assemble its products overseas. However, the
assembly accounts for a fraction of the cost of making a PC or
smartphone. Most of the cost lies in buying chips, and many of those are
made in the U.S., Cook noted in his interview with NBC.

The
company and Foxconn have faced significant criticism this year over
working conditions at the Chinese facilities where Apple products are
assembled. The attention prompted Foxconn to raise salaries.

Cook
didn't say which line of computers would be produced in the U.S. or
where in the country they would be made. But he told Bloomberg that the
production would include more than just final assembly. That suggests
that machining of cases and printing of circuit boards could take place
in the U.S.

The simplest Macs to assemble are the Mac Pro and Mac
Mini desktop computers. Since they lack the built-in screens of the
MacBooks and iMacs, they would likely be easier to separate from the
Asian display supply chain.

Analyst Jeffrey Wu at IHS iSuppli said
it's not uncommon for PC makers to build their bulkier products close
to their customers to cut down on delivery times and shipping costs.

Regardless,
the U.S. manufacturing line is expected to represent just a tiny piece
of Apple's overall production, with sales of iPhones and iPads now
dwarfing those of its computers.

Apple is latching on to a trend
that could see many jobs move back to the U.S., said Hal Sirkin, a
partner with The Boston Consulting Group. He noted that Lenovo Group,
the Chinese company that's neck-and-neck with Hewlett-Packard Co. for
the title of world's largest PC maker, announced in October that it will
start making PCs and tablets in the U.S.

Chinese wages are
raising 15 to 20 percent per year, Sirkin said. U.S. wages are rising
much more slowly, and the country is a cheap place to hire compared to
other developed countries like Germany, France and Japan, he said.

"Across a lot of industries, companies are rethinking their strategy of where the manufacturing takes place," Sirkin said.

Carl
Howe, an analyst with Yankee Group, likened Apple's move to Henry
Ford's famous 1914 decision to double his workers' pay, helping to build
a middle class that could afford to buy cars. But Cook's goal is
probably more limited: to buy goodwill from U.S. consumers, Howe said.

"Say
it's State of the Union 2014. President Obama wants to talk about
manufacturing. Who is he going to point to in the audience? Tim Cook,
the guy who brought manufacturing back from China. And that scene is
going replay over and over," Howe said. "And yeah, it may be only
(public relations), but it's a lot of high-value PR."

Cook said in
his interview with NBC that companies like Apple chose to produce their
products in places like China, not because of the lower costs
associated with it, but because the manufacturing skills required just
aren't present in the U.S. anymore.

He added that the consumer
electronics world has never really had a big production presence in the
U.S. As a result, it's really more about starting production in the U.S.
than bringing it back, he said.

But for nearly three decades
Apple made its computers in the U.S. It started outsourcing production
in the mid-90s, first by selling some plants to contract manufacturers,
then by hiring manufacturers overseas. It assembled iMacs in Elk Grove,
Calif., until 2004.

Some Macs already say they're "Assembled in
USA." That's because Apple has for years performed final assembly of
some units in the U.S. Those machines are usually the product of special
orders placed at its online store. The last step of production may
consist of mounting hard drives, memory chips and graphics cards into
computer cases that are manufactured elsewhere. With Cook's announcement
Thursday, the company is set to go much further in the amount of work
done in the U.S.

The news comes a day after Apple posted its worst
stock drop in four years, erasing $35 billion in market capitalization.
Apple's stock rose $8.45, or 1.6 percent, to close at $547.24 Thursday.
WELLINGTON: The number of Facebook fans for Ferrari has reached an incredible figure of 10 million in just three years, according to a report.

To celebrate the achievement, the company produced a short cartoon
which features Ferrari's chairman Luca di Montezemolo, Stuff.co.nz
reports.

According to the report, the luxury supercar-maker and Formula One
racer has been on Facebook since 2009, enjoying exponential growth in
the number of fans following the page, becoming one of the biggest
social media realities in the world.

Numbers have grown by
nearly four million in the past 12 months alone and reveal interesting
trends in the usage of this media, especially amongst emerging markets
and among youngsters. In fact 55 per cent of all followers are under 24,
the report said.

Ferrari's biggest fan-base following is in
traditional markets, including the USA, France, Spain and Italy, but
support is remarkably strong from other, newer markets for Ferrari, such
as India which can already count on almost one million fans, it added.

It all starts with Google, doesn’t it? Not really – it’s all about Google today because Google is the most used search engine.

Google, like any other software, evolves and corrects its own bugs
and conceptual failures. The goal of the engineers working at Google is
to constantly improve its search algorithm, but that’s no easy job.

Google is a great search engine, but Google is still a teenager.

This article was inspired by my high expectations of the Google
algorithm that have been blown away in the last year, seeing how
Google’s search results “evolved.” If we look at some of the most
competitive terms in Google we will see a search engine filled with spam
and hacked domains ranking in the top 10.

Why Can Google Still Not Catch Up With the Spammers?

Panda, Penguin, and the EMD update did clear some of the clutter. All
of these highly competitive terms have been repeatedly abused for
years. I don’t think there was ever a time when these results were
clean, in terms of what Google might expect from its own search engine.

Even weirder is that the techniques used to rank this spam are as old as (if not older than) Google itself. And this brings me to a question:

The only difference between now and then is the period of time a spam
result will “survive” in the SERPs. Now it's decreased from weeks to
days, or even hours in some cases.

One of the side effects of Google's various updates is a new business
model: ranking high on high revenue-generating keywords for a short
amount of time. For those people involved in this practice, it scales
very well.

How Google Ranks Sites Today: A Quick Overview

These are two of the main ranking signal categories:

On-page factors.

Off-page factors.

On-page and off-page have existed since the beginning of the search
engine era. Now let’s take a deeper look at the most important factors
that Google might use.
Regarding the on-page factors Google will try to understand and rate the following:

How often a site is updated. A site that isn't
updated often doesn't mean it's low quality. This just tells Google how
often it should crawl the site and it will compare the update frequency
to other sites’ update frequency in the same niche to determine a trend
and pattern.

If the content is unique. Duplicate content matching applies a negative score)

If the content provides interest to the users. Bounce rate and traffic data mixed on-page with off-page).

If the site is linking out to a bad neighborhood.

If the site is inter-linked with high-quality sites in the same niche.

If the site is over-optimized from an SEO point of view.

Other various smaller on page related factors.

The off-page factors are mainly the links. The social signals are
still in their infancy and there is no exact study yet that clearly
shows a true correlation of the social signals without being merged with
the link signal. It is all speculation until now.

Talking about links they could be easily classified in two big categories:

Natural. Link appeared as a result of:

The organic development of a page (meritocracy).

A result of a “pure” advertising campaign with no intent of directly changing the SERPs.

Unnatural. Link appeared:

With the purpose to influencing a search engine ranking.

Unfortunately, the unnatural links represent a very large percentage
of what the web is today. This is mainly due to Google’s (and the other
search engines’) ranking models. The entire web got polluted because of
this concept.

When your unnatural link ratio is way higher than your natural
(organic) link ratio, it raises a red flag and Google starts watching
your site more carefully.
Google tries to fight the unnatural link patterns with various
algorithm updates. Some of the most popular updates, that targeted
unnatural link patterns and low quality links, are the Penguin and EMD updates.

Google’s major focus today is on improving the way it handles link
profiles. This is another difficult task, which is why Google is having a
hard time making its way through the various techniques used by SEO
pros (black hat or white hat) to influence positively or negatively the
natural ranking of a site.

Google's Stunted Growth

Google is like a young teenager stuck on some difficult math problem.
Google's learning process apparently involves trying to solve the
problem of web spam by applying the same process in a different pattern –
why can’t Google just break the pattern and evolve?

Is Google only struggling to maintain an acceptable ranking formula?
Will Google evolve or stick with what it’s doing, just in a largely
similar format?
Other search engines like Blekko have taken a different route and
have tried to crowdsource content curation. While this works well in a
variety of niches, the big problem with Blekko is that this content
curation is not too “mainstream” putting the burden of the algorithm on
the shoulders of its own users. But the pro users appreciate it and make
the Blekko results quite good.

In a perfect, non-biased scenario, Google’s ranked results should be:

Ranked by non-biased ranking signals.

Impossible to be affected by third parties (i.e., negative SEO or positive SEO).

Able to tell the difference between bad and good (remember the JCPenny scandal).

More diverse and impossible to manipulate.

Giving new quality sites a chance to rank near the “giant” old sites.

Maintaining transparency.

There is still a long way to go until Google’s technology evolves
from the infancy we know today. Will we have to wait until Google is 18
or 21 years old – or even longer – before Google reaches this level of
maturity that it dreams of?

Until then, the SEO community is left with testing and benchmarking
the way Google evolves – and maybe try to create a book of best
practices about search engine optimization.

Google created an entire ecosystem that started backfiring a long
time ago. They basically opened the door to all the spam concepts that
they are now fighting today.

Is this illegal or immoral, white or black? Who are we to decide? We are no regulatory entity!

Conclusion

Google is a complicated “piece” of software that is being updated
constantly, with each update theoretically bringing new fixes and
improvements.

None of us were born smart, but we have learned how to become smart as we’ve grown. We never stop learning.

The same applies to Google. We as human beings are imperfect. How could we create a perfect search engine? Are we able to?

SAN FRANCISCO: Yahoo said it had acquired a small startup specializing in broadcasting video chats or interviews to online audiences.

Financial terms of the deal to buy OnTheAir were not disclosed but Yahoo said the five members of the young company would join the internet veteran's mobile technology team.

"Hiring the most talented mobile product thinkers and engineers is a
big priority for us moving forward," Yahoo senior vice president of
emerging products and technology Adam Cahan said in an email response to
an AFP inquiry.

"We can't wait to work with (the OnTheAir team) to create the best possible mobile experience for our users."

San Francisco-based OnTheAir launched in March with an application that
lets people host online talk shows with the twist that hosts can bring
audience members "onstage" in the form of split-screen chats broadcast
for all to see.

Yahoo! snapping up OnTheAir created the
potential for the Sunnyvale, California firm to field a challenge to the
popular Hangouts group video chat feature at Google's online social
network or enhance mobile gadget services.

OnTheAir announced at its website that Yahoo had bought the company.

"While we haven't yet attained our dream of building a widespread daily
use product, we are just as committed to it," the OnTheAir team said in
a message on its website.

"And this is why we're so excited to
be joining Yahoo...everybody there is committed to making mobile
products the backbone for the world's daily habits."

Prominent Samsung-related blog SamMobile has the latest on Samsung Galaxy S IV rumours.

According
to the
blog the next generation Galaxy S device, likely to be called Samsung Galaxy
S IV, is under development and is codenamed 'Project J' and may launch
as early as April 2013.

"Samsung is having plans to announce the next Galaxy S in April.

According
to older rumors the Galaxy S IV would have a full HD AMOLED display, a
quad-core cpu,the latest version of android, a 13 megapixel camera and
the screen size would be 5.0"

Our insider could not confirm the
specifications at this moment! He only knows the new project name
called: Project J for the next Galaxy."

Earlier
rumours
have indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will have a 4.99-inch Super
AMOLED display with 1920*1080 resolution, giving it a pixel density of
441PPI. That report is in line with other rumours which suggested that
Samsung and LG are working on smartphones with full-HD display, which may be released in first-half of 2013. It
would make sense for Samsung's next flagship device to be its first
smartphones with full-HD display.

Other rumours had
indicated the Galaxy S IV will feature a 13-megapixel camera, a
significant upgrade over the Galaxy S III's 8-megapixel rear shooter.
There's also buzz about the Galaxy S IV featuring a 2 GHz quad-core
Exynos processor and an 8-core GPU.

NEW DELHI: After announcing plans to abolish roaming charges for mobile
users when traveling within India from next year, the telecom
department is likely to ask operators to implement this
consumer-friendly move from March.

Mobile phone companies have
opposed the government's plans to do away with roaming charges, which
accounts for about 10% of their revenues, and have warned they would be
forced to increase tariffs to offset this loss.

According to an internal DoT
note (dated November 23) reviewed by ET, the department has listed this
consumer-friendly move amongst 'key initiatives to be completed within
the next three months'.

By March, the department also wants to
expand the mobile number portability (MNP) provision and allow consumers
to retain their numbers when they move to a new city or any location in
the country without having to pay roaming charges. At present, MNP,
the facility that allows customers to retain their number while
switching operators, is restricted to a circle. For instance, a Delhi
customer can switch to any operator within the metro, as this is
considered to be the 'base circle' for that number.

The
Cellular Operators Association of India, the body representing mobile
phone companies on the GSM platform such as Vodafone and Bharti Airtel,
has criticised the government's plans to abolish roaming charges, and
has maintained that the DoT must first sort out a slew of policy-related
issues, including migration to the unified licence, before asking
telcos to do away with this charge.

Telcos oppose free roaming

Mobile phone companies have cited reasons ranging from higher tariffs,
to security threat, undesirable competition to end of the concept of STD
in opposing the move to do away with roaming charges.

"Currently, the roaming charges are borne only by those who avail of the
roaming service. Operators would need to recover this loss in roaming
revenues leading to tariff increase which will be equally borne by the
non-roaming customer base. To create a new tariff equilibrium, the
tariffs in some non-affluent parts of country will go up and in other
parts will drop," said an executive with a leading GSM operator.

Mobile phone companies also say that removal of roaming charges would
lead to free-flow of SIMs across circles on a permanent basis.

"It is possible that sims or mobile connections of the circle that
offers lowest STD tariff in the country, would be picked up by customer
residing in other circles, who will use these to make discounted STD
calls since the tariff in their own circles are higher. This potential
revenue loss on account of this tariff arbitrage would make it necessary
for the players to adopt a single tariff pan-India, thereby also
resulting in a doing away of 'Local' & 'STD' as a concept," the
executive quoted above added.

Executives with telcos also said
that 'end of STD as a concept would lead to huge revenue impact to the
operators', which the industry would not be able absorb, 'especially in
the wake of high spectrum costs'.

"There are more than 10
national long distance operators (that carry STD traffic) - in the event
of merger of carriage charges with local tariff, the manner in which
these operators will be compensated is unclear. In any case, it is
ultimately up to the operator who will need to absorb this cost. Hence,
it is possible that this might lead to a scenario where the carriage
cost has been removed, but a differential terminating cost would become
necessary because of the interconnection and call-routing issues which
would need to be taken up between operators afresh," said an executive
with another mobile phone company.

The new feature was added to the latest version of Facebook Messenger app for Android.

New Delhi: To take on other popular
messaging apps, including WhatsApps that rumours say Facebook is eyeing
to buy, Facebook has enabled users to create a Facebook Messenger
account without a Facebook account and using only a name and phone
number.

The new feature was added to the latest version of Facebook's
Messenger app for Android. This new log in ability is expected to come
to the Facebook Messenger app on other platforms as well.

The Facebook-free login for Messenger was made possible because
the Messenger app is used for private communication and is not dependent
on other Facebook public features such as the news feed and therefore
similar logins may not be extended to other apps such as the Facebook
Camera app.

The
ability to access Facebook Messenger will not only help Facebook to
compete with other messaging apps but it can also attract new users into
the Facebook flock.

New Delhi: Datawind, the maker of
Aakash tablet PC, on Saturday said assembling and programming of the
low-cost tablet has been done in the country and only some main parts
have been sourced from China. "For the first 10,000 units for IIT, and
for expediency sake we had the motherboards and kits manufactured in our
Chinese subcontractor's facilities, and then the units have been
'kitted' in China at various manufacturers for expediency, whereas the
final assembly and programming has happened in India," Datawind said in a
statement.

The company said it got the approval from the government to
procure components from China. "This was well discussed and we got
approval prior to shipping. The initial devices were assembled and
programmed at our facilities in New Delhi and Amritsar," it said. The
advanced version of Aakash was launched on November 11 by President
Pranab Mukherjee.

"We finished this batch of 10,000 units and delivered them to IIT
and will be starting another batch of 20,000 units for them in two
weeks," the statement added. The new version 'Aakash 2', is powered by a
processor running at 1 GHz, has a 512 MB, a 7-inch capacitative touch
screen and a battery working for three hours of normal operations.

The
first version of tablet had processor with 366 Megahertz, 256 MB RAM
and 2GB flash memory. It has WiFi based Internet connectivity option.
The first one lakh devices will be provided to students of engineering
colleges and universities and subsequently these will be distributed to
others.
Cost: Rs 32,549

Rating: * * *

Specifications: 4.3-inch (1280 x 768 pixels), 1.7Ghz dual core, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, 12MP/1.3MP camera, Android 4.0, 144 grams, 1750 mAh

Positives: Pin-sharp display, well built and stylish, high quality stills from the 12MP camera

Negatives: Steep price, no expandable storage, confusing feather touch Android buttons, poor quality video recording

NEW DELHI: Back in 2011, when Sony Ericsson
launched the Xperia Arc and its successor, the Xperia Arc S, they were
doing hardware upgrades to make sure that the devices could hold their
ground against increasing competition. Along the same lines, Sony has
now launched the Xperia SL, successor to the Sony Xperia S.

The SL is a replica of the Xperia S in terms of design but has an
upgraded processor. It is still a great looking phone, but continues
with the oddly-placed feather touch Android buttons that are a pain to
get used to. The 4.3-inch touchscreen is responsive & thanks to the
enhanced 1280 x 720 resolution, it is pin-sharp & boasts of a higher
resolutuion than the iPhone's Retina display (342 vs 330 pixels per inch).

The performance is great with the faster 1.7Ghz dual core processor,
but there is no visible difference between the Xperia S and the SL's
performance on a day-to-day usage.

Existing owners of the Xperia S have no reason to upgrade.

It also features the same 12MP camera as the Xperia S. The camera
starts quickly, autofocus locks on in an instant and the pictures have
rich colors with sharp details. However, the phone's video recording
capabilities are disappointing.

The videos are good to view on
the phone, but when viewed on a large TV, they lacked details and seemed
blurry. With calling, audio/video, camera and social networking, the
phone's battery lasts less than a day — be prepared to carry a charger
around since the battery is not removable.

Even though the hardware has been upgraded significantly, the Xperia SL
seems pricy compared to new (and very capable) quad core smartphones
from Samsung, LG and HTC. We recommended that you spend just a little more and go for the Samsung
Galaxy SIII. It has a larger 4.8-inch screen, faster quad core
processor, expandable storage, better overal camera as well as better
battery life.

Sony is trying to make a comeback in the mobile space banking on its
Android line-up after launching a handful of mid-range smartphones like
the Xperia neo, Xperia U, Xperia P, Xperia Ion and Xperia sola. Now with
the launch of the Sony Xperia tipo and Xperia tipo dual, the company is
eyeing the entry level Android market, while also aiming to bring
dual-SIM devices.

In terms of specifications the only thing that sets
apart the Xperia tipo from the Xperia tipo dual is that the latter has a
dual-SIM slot. Also, Xperia tipo is available in a handful of colour
options - black, white, red and blue, while users opting for the
dual-SIM version will have to be content with just the black and white.

So
is Sony Xperia tipo a worthy entry level Android device or does one
need to look at other options available in the market? Here's our
review.

Design/ Hardware

At first glance, the Xperia tipo
reminds us of a nursery rhyme "I am little teapot (read: tipo), short
and stout". This is an apt description for this smartphone. In a world
where smartphones are eyeing to get a bigger screen and slimmer profile,
Xperia tipo is a bit of an exception.

It has a 3.2-inch screen
that makes it look a bit smaller than most of the smartphones being
launched. Not to mention that it is also a bit chubby at 13mm.
Thankfully this chubbiness does not reflect in its weight as it feels
light at just 99 grams.

The smartphone has a full plastic body and
its back has a soft, matte coating that feels slightly rubberised
allowing for a good grip. The Xperia tipo does not have a great build
but still feels sturdy.

As already mentioned the smartphone comes
with a 3.2-inch display, which is made up of a mineral glass that helps
protect the screen from scratches.

Just below the screen are the
three capacitive Android buttons - back, home and menu. The right panel
has the USB/charging port and the left houses the volume rocker (and the
SIM swap button for the Xperia tipo dual). Xperia tipo dual supports
both GSM SIMs and the SIM swap button helps in changing the default SIM
by just one click.

The top panel has the power button and a 3.5mm
jack and the back has the 3.2 megapixel camera. Overall, it is not a
bad looking smartphone and its size makes it easy to pocket.

The
Xperia tipo runs on a single core 800MHz processor and has 512 MB of
RAM. The internal storage available on this smartphone is around 3 GB,
which can be expanded up to 32GB through microSD card. There is also a
1,500 mAh battery on-board.

Display

The Xperia tipo has a
3.2-inch display, which offers a resolution of 480x320 pixels. The
resolution and the viewing angles may not seem great, but when you look
at the competition (the likes of LG Optimus L3, LG Optimus L3 dual,
Samsung Galaxy Y and Samsung Galaxy Y Duos), you'll find that the
display is pretty good for the price.

Under sun visibility on the Xperia tipo was decent. The screen used in this smartphone is reflective.

The keyboard on the smartphone feels a bit cramped and the speed and the accuracy take a hit because of the same.

Camera

The
Sony Xperia tipo comes with a decent 3.2-megapixel shooter. The picture
quality of the images taken in daylight from this smartphone is decent.
However, there is no flash in this smartphone so one should not even
expect to click picture when the light is low.

Another downside
is that there is no auto-focus in the camera. The device lacks a
dedicated camera button. The camera app is accessible through the lock
screen swiping left on the lock screen.

The camera on-board
offers various modes such as Night scene, Beach and Snow and Sports to
click pictures. Basic camera settings are present such as Self-timer,
White Balance settings, Metering to aid photography. The clicked
pictures can also be Geotagged.

The quality of videos taken through this smartphone is average.

Software/ Interface

The
biggest advantage that the Xperia tipo has is that it runs on Android
4.0. Sony has also added a layer of its TimeScape UI on the smartphone.
There are five customisable home screens to fill with apps and widgets.
The UI feels quite smooth.

Sony has also pre-loaded quite a few
apps on this smartphone such as Bollywood Hungama, CricBuzz, WhatsApp
and Office Suite. There is also a PVR Cinema app thrown in that helps
check out show timings and book tickets.

Another app thrown in is
appXtra, which helps in downloading apps such as Satyamev Jayate,
Romance with Kareena, SRK with love and Romantic Salman. What this
really does is give access to the TV show Satyamev Jayate and lets users
watch free songs and videos of their favourite Bollywood stars.

For
the ones that believe in astrology, an Astro app by Bejan Daruwalla's
of GaneshaSpeaks.com fame is also pre-loaded. It shows the daily
horoscope depending on your sun sign.

Performance/ Battery

Sony
Xperia tipo comes with an 800 MHz processor, which is not earth
shattering but is quite decent for an entry-level device. The
smartphone's performance is in line with its price, and offers a
reasonable multi-tasking experience as well. The browsing experience
using the stock browser is fast and smooth.

Sony is promoting the
audio playback of this smartphone and that is indeed the highlight of
this device. You can play widely known formats such as MP3, MP4,
AAC,WAV, OTA, OGG and AMR audio formats. The audio quality is good both
on the headphones and the loudspeaker.

Sony Xperia tipo comes
with a 1500 mAh battery, which is better than the HTC Explorer (1230
mAH), Samsung Galaxy Y (1200 mAh) and LG Optimus ME (1280 mAH). The
battery easily last a full day on a single charge.

Verdict

If
you're looking for a decent Android ICS smartphone for under Rs. 10,000
then this is the smartphone to go for. It
definitely has an edge over Samsung Galaxy Y, LG Optimus Me, LG Optimus
L3 and HTC Explorer, which run on the dated Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
Not to forget that it has a good battery life and a great music
playback. However, do keep the relatively smaller screen size in mind
while considering the Xperia tipo.

Pros

A sub Rs. 10,000 Android smartphone

Good music playback especially from the loudspeaker

Cons

Underwhelming camera

Price of Sony Xperia tipo: Rs. 9,999 and Xperia tipo dual: Rs. 10,449

Ratings (Out of 5)

Design: 3.5
Display: 3
Performance: 3.5
Software: 4
Battery Life: 4
Value for Money: 4
Camera: 2.5
Overall: 4

Logitech India has unveiled a range of accessories optimised for Microsoft's new operating system Windows 8.

The
accessories are the Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400, Logitech Touch
Mouse T620, Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650, Logitech
Wireless Touch Keyboard K400R and Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated
Keyboard K810.

The Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400 is a
traditional two-button mouse with a glass touch surface in between. The
touch surface is designed for horizontal and vertical scrolling with
your fingers, and you can click anywhere on the front of the touch zone
to go directly to the Windows 8 Start Screen to access your favourite
apps.

Logitech Touch Mouse T620 is an all-touch mouse
(reminiscent of Apple's Magic Mouse). You have the freedom to gesture
wherever your fingers rest on the mouse - even on the edges - so
everything you do feels natural and intuitive, including horizontal and
vertical scrolling, and app switching. The T620 features a laser-grade
optical sensor that ensures precision tracking on most surfaces.

The
Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650 is a trackpad (not
dissimilar to Apple's Magic Trackpad) that comes equipped with a large,
ultra-smooth glass touch-surface that supports Windows 8 gestures, and
speeds up navigation among windows while giving your fingers more room
to roam. You can perform basic point, click and scroll functions
anywhere your fingers rest on the touch surface, while also taking
advantage of Windows 8 gestures, such as edge gestures for app
switching, app bar and charms bar activation, pinch-to-zoom and
three-finger swipe to take you back to the Start Screen.

Logitech
Wireless Touch Keyboard K400R is a portable keyboard cum trackpad combo
that targets users looking for a more convenient way to type on/
navigate their home theatre system. The keyboard features one touch
function keys for media control and Windows 8 as well, while the
3.5-inch built-in touchpad makes vertical and horizontal scrolling
intuitive. The device works over 2.4GHz wireless connection with a range
of 10 metres.

The Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810
is a rechargeable backlit keyboard. The device is able to connect to
three Bluetooth devices, with dedicated buttons to switch between the
devices quickly. The Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810 comes
loaded with specific keys to help you easily navigate the new Windows 8
operating system, such as the App Switching function key that allows you
to quickly switch among your open apps.

Pricing and availability
