Hi there,

As you all noticed, I haven't been around for a while. The reason for this is that I am very busy working on my graduation projects.

For my graduation I have to do 3 major projects

#1 internship project: redesigning a wind turbine
#2 manufacturing techniques: Design a hair-drier from scratch (1 sketch) which has to be ready to be produced
#3 design your own product which can be chosen freely: I chose for a universal mobile steadicam

This is taking a lot of time.

Besides that I am also working on my own portfolio website, which is under construction and will be ready at the end of the summer.

And the last thing is that I've been added into a developers team for JellyBAM. This is a custom ROM for over 35 android devices which can be "flashed" on your rooted android device. Next to that I am also a forum moderator of the JellyBAM community, so this all takes a lot of time.

For this "job" I have to make several icons and while I am doing that I also learn how to code in HTML, PHP and stuff. So it is a good learning curve for me.

So this is what I've been doing lately and there will no longer be a lot of activity on this blog anymore. All these things will be transferred to my new website when it is finished.

Documentary; Louis Theroux - Nazi's

Really incredible docu about nazi's with a very tunnel-visioned opinion about ethnicity in the United States of America which is made by Louis Theroux.

Louis Theroux is a Britisch documentary maker with a very open opinion which is shown in this documentary. That is why I like watching his documentaries because he is open en honest about his believes whether he is in a Prison with murderers of with nazi's who are asking him "Are you Jewish" on what he answers "Do you mind if I don't answer that?". Even though he isn't Jewish at all but he wan't to make a point that there is no difference between whether he is Jewish or not. While the nazi's don't want a Jewish person in their house although ethnicy doesn't matter. Personality and values matters.
These are the 6 parts which are played automatically after another because it is a Youtube video playlist.

Next to that he is also visiting a family with 2 daughters. Those two daughters are home schooled because the mother is thinking they won't learn the right things in public school. But because they are home schooled by their mother those kids get kinda brainwashed just because they learn everything from their strong believed mother. So those kids won't even get the chance to choose their own opinion because they don't know any better. Very sad I think. But I won't say more. Just watch the documentary and I would like to hear your opinion about this.

Louis Theroux; Nazi's

I also recommend you the documentary about the Miami Mega Jail, this is also a eye opener about how some people can think so different from the "normal" people.

La Luna - Pixar

I am always amazed about how beautiful the animations of Pixar are. Every single movie or short story I saw was amazing and still is.

Animations are creativity at their best, because you can make E-VE-RY-thing in an animation movie. Nothing is impossible.

Here I found a short story from Pixar called La Luna which is the Spanish word of The Moon.

3D printed beak prosthesis for a injured bald eagle

Sometime in 2005, Beauty the bald eagle was shot in the face by a poacher, which damaged her beak badly enough that she couldn't eat on her own. Animal rescue workers found her before she starved to death, and volunteers at the nonprofit group Birds of Prey Northwest nursed her back to health via tube-feeding and, later, hand-feeding with forceps. But it became increasingly clear that her beak was never going to grow back — meaning that Beauty would never be able to feed herself. She was on track to be euthanized.

But raptor specialist Jane Fink Cantwell, who dresses like Indiana Jones, refused to take "dead bald eagle" for an answer. She joined forces with mechanical engineer Nate Calvin of Kinetic Engineering Group, and together with other scientists, engineers, and even a dentist, they designed a nylon polymer beak that would perfectly replace Beauty's lost upper mandible.

Calvin developed the new beak using a 3-D modeling program, then used a 3-D printer to fabricate it. After an arduous procedure to attach her prosthetic, Beauty was able to eat, drink, and preen herself on her own.

It has been a while. How are you all doing?

I found an amazing artist who amazes me very much. He is creating photo realistic images with just a few colored pencils.

Paolo Amico is an Italian artist who is intrigued by BIG pencils. He thinks it's the greatest invention of the 20th century. On his youtube channel he shows us how he draws his pictures. Here is one video I like the most, because in the end it looks amazingly real drawn only with colored pencils.

Everyone!

This year I am about to graduate. To achieve this I have to make my own product. This product needs to be created out of a problem but that's where my problem pops up.

I have some problems to solve but I am curious what kind of problems you have in your daily life? Small problems or irritations like insects in your glass, peeling an orange, pain in your wrist while sitting behind your computer. Stuff like that.

It would help me a lot if YOU can tell ME about your little problem and if it suits me maybe I will solve it as my final project.

I hope you have many problems so I can solve at least one!

two words; AMAZING VIDEO!

I found this video on a dutch fun site with all kind of footage. But this one is really incredible.

It's about shots that you think are digitally made, but they shoot them in real life. Really amazing what kind of footage you get. They use a very high speed camera with a really precise robot called "Spike". Which can turn in anyway you want.

They make the coincidence controllable.

Internship; Circulo

During my internship last week we came up with a new addition to our already existing circulo bench. This bench is designed by GBO DESIGN for Stiels BV (this website is dutch)

The idea behind this bench is that you can place it around a tree. But when you don't have a tree you can also place it on a big square. But than you need something in the middle. For this we came with a big flower pot, so you can decorate the bench with some plants.

Here you've got a 3D impression of the circulo bench with flower pot.

The pot is made out of styrofaom coated with a 3mm layer of plastic. This plastic comes in different colors from red, blue, yellow, green and other RAL colors.

Leap Motion

I found this incredible device that can be used in different kind of computer setting. It's a little device that scans your hand in a 3 dimensional space.

Something like the Kinect from the Xbox 360. But with this you can do several things. Play a game, zoom in zoom uit for example in google maps. But an other great thing is free hand drawing or sketching.

But, for the business I study in it is great to have while using a CAD program so you can switch, turn zoom or do whatever you want with your 3D drawing just by moving the "part" in space.

Maybe it sounds like a joke to you right now, but here is a video that explains it a little better.

'Rinser' toothbrush

Rinser toothbrush is a toothbrush with a build-in fountain. With this concept you can brush your teeth and rinse your mouth without using a cup or get into a weird position to rinse your mouth.

Aside from this primary function it also has a different one. You can easy replace the brush heads when they got worn out. You can easily snap of the brush head and replace it.

The price of one toothbrush with 2 brush head is around $22. It is one of the more expensive toothbrushes, but it is an amazing concept.

Strabrecht College: outdoor bench

I am working on this project during my internship at van der Hoorn Buigtechniek and Stiels BV. During this internship I have to do a project for school, but also a project for this company.

This is one of the projects I have to do for Stiels BV. It is a outdoor bench I had to design for a secondary school at Geldrop. This school has an open field in front of the building, and they want to reorganize this area. Stiels already got a bench called the circulo, and they want offer that bench too. So I had to design a bench with the Strabrecht logo with some similarities of the original circulo bench. So they would become a set.

This is the final result, and I think it looks great. Now the only thing I have to do, is placing this render picture into a picture of the area. So they can see how it's going to look in reality.

to create a realistic image, he is pretty big. The longest side from top till bottom is almost 6 meters, and the width is almost 5 meters. So it's a large bench, for a lot of kids. You can sit on both sides, there for kids can sit on the outside so they can watch the other children. But they also can sit on the inside just to talk to each other.

Future shopping; South Korea

Check this out, I found this video about a "fake" grocery store. It's about a store which is the second biggest store in South Korea, but they want to be the biggest store in South Korea without increasing the number of stores.

So they came up with a solution, "let the store come to people!". So they placed a lot of poster in metro stations. On those poster where pictures of food, like meat, or just some cookies. And below each picture you'll see a QR code. With a special app, and a QR code scanner you can add the product to your virtual shopping cart. If you're done shopping you'll send your shopping cart and your groceries will be delivered at your home address.

I think it is an amazing concept, you order the groceries on every metro station and the store doesn't need any real store with real products because the products are virtual.

Ubi Camera, take photos with your fingers

Taking a photo with your fingers, isn't that where a lot of people dream of. Earlier we all did that to make a fake photograph but at Japan's Institute of Advanced Media developed a prototype.

With this 1.0 prototype you can take pictures with your fingers, like you did earlier to make a fake photograph. It works with a little camera which is held by 2 fingers. First you put the devise on your left index finger, and with your right thumb you press it against your index finger.

But it is still a concept, so they want to develop it so far that you don't need to stick your fingers in some device, but still can take pictures with framing your fingers.

Because of the range sensor the device can detect how far your fingers are apart, and detect when your fingers are framing.

things they want to realize:

A lens that is really tiny, which is attached to your fingernail or point of your finger.
When you form a frame with your fingers, the camera automatically turns ON
The shutter could be activated by a different finger, which is touching the palm of your hand
Some other shutter activation "thing" would be nice, if you just say the sound of a real shutter. TJUK or something.

This article about a new iPhone Pro concept designed by Seoul based designer Jinyoung Choi.

It is a mind blowing concept design, which is blowing the rest of the competitors away. He integraded some awesome functions like; 4,5 inch wide LCD and 2 side button. It can use a 3D camera.

It can be used more professionally by setting DSLR lens, a Beam projector, portable speaker and a removable HDD. With the mount on the backside the iPhone is capable of connecting DSLR lenses. Also the beam projector kan use big screen everywhere.

How to make professionally family vacation pictures

I read an interesting article on inspirationfeed about how to increase the professionalism of your "normal" vacation pictures.

One way to give an interesting perspective to a photograph is to frame the subject of your photo, rather of just making random area shots. Instead of making a long-distance shot of a large landmark, zoom in on just a part of it. For example, if you are making a photo of the Statue of Livberty zooms in on only the face and torch. What you also can do is changing your angle of perspective. Instead of shooting a subject from eye level, try to get higher or lower. Something what also works is putting an element in the foreground, such as part of a tree in the corner of your shot. This helps to add depth to your photo.

Some other important thing, is you look through your viewfinder focus it on the subject so it gives your photograph some identity. Like the example I just gave about the Statue of Liberty.

The right equipment
It is always essential to have the right equipment to take excellent photographs. If you are moving around a lot nothing ruins your vacation faster than having a ton of photography stuff in a huge shoulder bag. Not only are you tired of carrying equipment trough the end of the day, although you also leave your photography equipment vulnerable to being stolen easily.

If you investing in a new camera for your trip, or something else. One of the misest decisions you can make is a multipurpose versatile camera, preferable with a build in flash. Most of them are compact, lightweight and not that expensive. They can easily be carryed in your backback or just around your neck with a strap. Always be sure the battery is charged or have some extra batteries.

So if you read this, you are closer to making some awesome vacation pictures without any knowledge of photography. Just choose the right equipment, and pay attention to the little details.

MVODESIGN: Outdoor bench.

During my internship I have my own project, but besides that they also wanted me to design an outdoor bench for a highschool nearby. So last 2 weeks I've been sketching and making a model in Solidworks. Today I finished it, roughly. Because we noticed some issues we have to handle. Some little safety things we have to think about.

But first we need to persuade the customer!

If they choose the design, I will post the drawings and ofcourse a picture when it is produced. But be a little patient because I don't think how long it is going to take. But if they don't choose my design, I will post it anyway so you can see the result. I like it! haha.

I will post the result as soon as possible.
