Happy New Year everyone, we have just decided on our dates for 2012, with the first being on Sunday 1st April from 10am until 2pm.
We have already had a great number of our regular producers agree to attend this years markets with some new ones on the way to tempt your taste buds too.
We now have fresh bread, how fantastic is this, fresh bread on a Sunday morning, along with jams and chutneys, or maybe a nice piece of topside beef, home reared at Park Hill Farm at hales, just up the road from us.
We are hoping to have Adderley Wharf farm shop attend at this event with Alison's lamb, great time to buy the week before Easter, oh and don't forget Nicola from Tuesdays chocolate shop with her Easter eggs, did you know she also has diabetic chocolate!!
Or will you want to buy that little something different for an Easter gift, I'm sure you will find it here among the producers.

Christmas Farmers Market

Hi Everyone, well its that time of year again and we have had a great response for our next farmers market which is on SUNDAY 11th DECEMBER 2011.
The market will be on its new place of Cheshire Street where we have a street closure for the day, and it will run from 1oam until 3pm.
The Salopian Brass Band will be entertaining us in the afternoon and street buskers in the day time, Steve Chappie and his band of merry men will be entertaining us in "De Shed" once again and we are all looking forward to his warm gluvine.
I've got some really great producers coming along on the day with one of our newest members The Shrewsbury Bakehouse, Sheila is so popular at all her markets and I'm really pleased that she has agreed to come along to Market Drayton to serve us.
Viv at Lymestone Brewery is another new producer with her beers, a must for that Christmas gift for the person you don't know what to buy, We also have Paul from our very own U-Bru shop and he's bringing along his wine, some great tasting chances around Paul's stall, also to try.
For the people who are after something warm we have Paul with Titus Alpaca products, I'll be wearing my socks that I was given last year (my new pressie order will be going in this year too).
Shepley's butchers from Market Drayton is another new producer this year, we're really pleased that Scott and his award winning sausages is able to attend, he even sells sin free sausages too.
Nooch will be here as always with her Thai food and Mick with his Curry stall or go for that traditional home made, hand reared beef burger from Park Hill farm at Hales, so much to choose from, little taster about so please feel free to try before you buy.
And don't forget that little thing to finish of the day a nice cupcake or a woopie cake from The Little Round cake company or how about a gorgeous choci from Tuesday's chocolate shop, there is so much to choose from.
As always Rosalind will be here with her vegan and vegetarian food, get in early as she sells it very quickly and this time we will also have the Nutroast company coming along ready to treat you in time for Christmas.
And just in case the weather is expected to be bad over the next few months we have George popping along with his logs and kindling and Mike who will be bringing along bags of salt grit and also arranging deliveries to your house for you to be prepared for the winter chill.
We have so many coming along to this event too many to mention, but we are sure we will have everything that you will need for your perfect Christmas, from the something unusual like Quince Cheese to the traditional Christmas pud, all local to our Market town.

Another of our successful farmers markets is now over and our new position of being in Cheshire Street proved very successful, four of our independent shops opened for the day including Sherwood Wholefoods, Tuesdays Chocolate shop, Lloyds interiors and the Buttercross tea rooms

We had a great set of girls busking throughout the day and it made it a lovely day with everyone having a leisurely stroll around the town.

I was really pleased with the new producers who all had great looking products and the plant stalls did a great days trading.

Once again the next farmers market is approaching and this time we have decided to move the market a little bit further into the town by holding it on Cheshire Street, which will allow us to have more producers attend and a bigger range of products.
This will also give us the oppertunity to support the town retail shops which will hopefully join us by opening for our next event.
We've had a great response so far with Bow wow baking already confirmed with her home made dog biscuits, Simon will be along with his honey along with all your favourites and some new ones too.
Across the pond will be attending with some fantastic products, pop along and meet them on their stall. More names will be added over the next week.
Another new producers is Vik Carrick and you can find more details about her products on her website http://www.yummymummyliving.co.uk/ Vik makes some fantastic looking products including leather purses with flower details, jewellery and candles to name but a few.
Ann Van Renen will also be attending for the first time with her hand made presentation gifts and baby's bibs with sayings on them, a must for those new mums and dad's.
Bidi Jones from Adderley is well known around the area for her stunning country cottage flowers and she will be bringing along a small range, Bidi also can do flower arrangements to order.

Hello again and welcome to 2011 and here's hoping we all have a healthy and stress free year.
Well our next farmers market is going to be on Sunday 3rd April, remember the date does it sound familiar, well its MOTHERS DAY and what better way to treat that certain special member of the family than to bring them along to your local farmers market and purchase those items that bring the family together around the dining table.
We will be also giving all the mothers that attend (subject to availability) a special gift for attending the event, made by one of our own producers and lovingly prepared, a lovely treat for the person who matters most.

Christmas Extravaganza

Wow what a day yesterday was, thank you to everybody who visited our event and made it such a fantastic event.
We brought pride back into our town and an atmosphere to be proud of, a round of applause goes to everyone who visited, producers who attended, shops, coffee shops and pubs who opened especially for the event, Market Drayton Advertiser, The Shropshire Star, BBC Shropshire Radio and all the people who helped on the day, without you all it wouldn't of happened and Market Drayton wouldn't of seen its biggest crowd to the town centre in years.

Well we had @johntyodonty from BBC Shropshire arrive on his quest for the Treasure Quest and yes he did it, it was hidden on the FordHall farm stall, and even though the burgers were cooking away in front of him, Johnty resisted and browsed around the market.
The Macmillan ladies did fantastic with their mystery parcels, raising a large amount of money for the charity to be used locally.
The Rugby club sold a large amount of their charity calenders, they are now available in Sport United Market Drayton if you missed your chance yesterday.
Steve Chappie was *In de Shed* once again and the lads even did a little show for us, these lads are so entertaining, you could watch them all day.
The children from Musicland entertained us all and did a great performance, very impressive for the age of these little ones.
The Salopian Brass Band from Shrewsbury were superb, a real treat to hear all the carols that they played, just what we needed to get into the Christmas spirit.
The children from Music land were a piece of Christmas all wrapped up, what a great treat for them to come along and perform in front of the crowd and do it so well, congratulations kids, you were fantastic.
If you were lucky enough to try the Thai experience stall I believe it was fantastic and sold out so quickly that even I missed out, i also missed out on the cupcakes from Cooke's Cakes who sold out within 2 hours, what a fantastic day Bekki had, thankfully she stayed for the rest of the day and took orders for Christmas, mine included.
For the rest of the new producers i'm told they all had a great day and are all wanting to come back again in 2011.

We have an exciting new producer attending our Christmas farmers market, its Alex Jungmayr and he's a wood carver, I've viewed some of his work and its fantastic.

Alex will be located by Library Square and he'll be showing you his work and also carving new pieces.

I'm sure he'll be getting plenty of commissions when everybody See's his work.

Our next Farmers Market is fast approaching and I'm very pleased to announce that our Cupcake Competition winner Rebecca Cooke will be attending with some of her fantastic cupcakes.
Rebecca has set up her own cupcake business after the response from the judges to her fantastic cakes, and now trades as COOKE'S CAKES, I hope you will all enjoy sampling some
of her cakes especially the winning Marshmallow and vanilla cupcake.

CASEY will also be attending with her hand made chalk boards and heart shaped wooden gifts, a new business which is on the way up.
Claire from DISH DASH BAGS is another newbie from Whitchurch with her lovely arrangement of oilcloth and linen bags, she also makes scented decorations, check out her website in our links column

KERRY JONES will be bringing her hand made jewellery, there are some fantastic pieces, ideal for that special person or just for a nice treat.

CUPCAKE COMPETITION WINNERS

What a day I've just had, every cake lovers heaven, surrounded by some stunning cupcakes.

We had a great response to our first ever cupcake competition and what talent it brought.

The cupcakes were imaginative delicately decorated and superb in texture and presentation.

It was an extremely difficult competition to judge with such talent surrounding us.

The overall prize of BEST IN SHOW was awarded to the Amateur category and Rebecca Cooke with her stunning Marshmallow and vanilla cupcake.

The Youths category was won by Max Ridgeway with his lovely Mint and Chocolate cupcake

And the Professional category was won by Nicola Docksey of Tuesdays chocolate shop with her Chocolate black forest cupcake.

The competition was judged by our new Lady Mayoress Mrs Margaret Smith and Lucy Green a teacher from the Grove High School here in Market Drayton.

The prizes varied from a large cupcake tin from Wilton, a two tier cake stand and a child's butterfly jigsaw cake tin, other contestants also received a cupcake keyring from The Stroppy Cow badge company.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who entered the competition and I'm sorry that we couldn't have given you all a prize as the work and detail that went into your cakes was magnificent

He'll be selling loads of exciting vegetarian deli-style foods, among the items he sells are:

- Spiced Red Lentil, Porcini and Cheddar Puddings (individual steamed puddings with a lentil and tomato filling, spiced with cinammon and ginger and encased in a vegetable suet based pastry)
- Indian Winter Puddings (individual steamed puddings with a parsnip and chick pea curry filling, and cumin seed infused pastry)
- Staffordshire Crumble (a mixture of grated leeks, Staffordshire organic cheese, carrots and breadcrumbs, baked in mini pudding basins)
- Roasted Carrot, Coriander and Sweet Potato Ball (a mixture of grated carrot, sweet potato, parsnip and breadcrumbs, flavoured with fresh coriander and ground ginger, shaped into a ball and roasted)
- Puy Lentil, Porcini, Sage & Wild Garlic Pate (fairly self-explanatory really!)
- Potato, Celeriac, Porcini and Cheddar Dauphinoise (layers of thinly sliced vegetables, baked with cream and garlic, sold by the slice)
- Baked Polenta with Caremelised Red Onions, Spinach and Mozzarella (effectively a gluten- free pizza, using baked polenta as a base instead of dough)
- Sundried Tomato, Black Olive and Basil Flowerpot Bread (bread baked in flowerpots, two
sizes)

FRANNY'S FOODS

Another new producer to our Christmas Farmers Market is franny's Foods from Macclesfield.
Really excited to see Granola on the Farmers Market a first for us.

The idea for Franny’s Foods (named after our daughter) developed from a love of Granola and following a family holiday in Cape Town in 2008 when we devoured the best we had ever tasted every morning at breakfast. It was on our return home, following fruitless efforts to find anything as good, we decided to create our own version.

We spent a few months tasting the competition and trying different recipes until we were completely happy with a product designed to suit today’s health-conscious consumers.

Our Granola is made at our home in Macclesfield using award winning Cheshire oats with nuts, seeds and spices slowly toasted with sunflower oil and sweetened only with honey. There are no artificial additives, and we don’t add sugar or salt.

Our first farmer’s market was at Cloverbank, Gawsworth in February this year, where we sold out! We now sell at a number of local farmer’s markets, farm shops and B&B’s and our success is based firmly on the quality of the product supported by our loyal customers and enthusiastic retail partners.

Over the next few months we intend to raise our profile further, grow our customer-base and develop and launch a new, complementary product which we hope will prove to be as popular as the Granola.

A NEW PRODUCER COMING TO OUR CHRISTMAS FARMERS MARKET IS JULIE FROM NELLIE'S PATCH

Nellie’s Patch is named after our pet cat Nellie, who wanders through her “patch”, where we grow our herbs and flowers.

These are incorporated into the handmade soap.

We don’t use any nasty chemicals on our botanicals; the only fertilizer comes from our horses Barney, and Paddy, and Fruit Pastel the donkey! Our “boys” graze on the plentiful grass here in rural Shropshire. The area often feels like it has its own micro-climate, sheltered by the Welsh hills. Maybe that is what helps our plants grow.
Our soaps are as natural as possible and rich in shea butter, renowned for its moisturising properties, along with essential oils, herbs or flowers. Our kitchen is full of flowers we are drying, and the smell of fresh rose petals is divine.

We DO NOT use palm oil. We are concerned about the detrimental impact on the environment that a large percentage of palm oil production creates.

The effects on wildlife, particularly the orang-utan, concern us. Remember the “Orang-utan Diaries” on the BBC, and then you will know why we don’t use it.

All our other oils come from sustainable sources, and like all our ingredients they are not tested on animals.

We DO NOT use artificial colours, fragrances, perfumes, sodium suphate, parabens and a host of other unnatural ingredients you will often find in soaps. Nellie’s Patch soaps are made using the traditional cold process and are left to mature, then packed by hand . You can be sure that this is a true artisan soap, made at home from start to finish.

We do not buy in soaps and put our own label on them. Our soaps are all vegetarian and vegan and are not tested on animals.
We support and use local business where we can. Reducing transport miles is part of our business ethos. Even the spring water used in all of our soaps is sourced locally.
Nellie’s Patch soaps have been made with care, patience and integrity.

We hope you enjoy them ,and get a feel for our Shropshire, country lifestyle when you use them.
Our lovely cottage garden flowers, newly planted at the beginning of the year, continue to thrive. These will be sold through farmers markets as they become available. Do remember though we are offering only seasonal flowers. Well known local artist Roy Brocklehurst had a very successful day at the last Market Drayton Farmers Market.

He sold 3 watercolour paintings and had 2 commissions which have now been completed and received favourably.
He has future dates booked for his work at Calverhall, Macclesfield, Market Harborough, Festival Drayton Centre and of course the next Market Drayton Farmers Market.

Fordhall Farm

Fordhall Farm Shop is located on the outskirts of the traditional market town of Market Drayton (A53) in North Shropshire in the picturesque Tern Valley. It was opened in 2004 when an old shippon was renovated into the speciality farm shop.

Both the shop and the farm are now run by brother and sister, Charlotte and Ben Hollins who began their business back in 2004 when they were only 21 and 19 years respectively (their family had tenanted the land here for over 3 generations). They sell all local or organic produce and Ben prides himself in the beef, lamb and pork that he hand rears organically on the farm. Fordhall is also England's first community-owned farm when it was saved from development in 2006. Now owned by over 8000 people from across the country the farm is used as a community resource for education and access, whilst the land is leased to Ben and Charlotte as tenant farmers.

Their cattle and sheep are reared outdoors on a unique outdoor grazing system called foggage farming. This gives the livestock the most natural and happy life, whilst also improving flavour of the meat. They rear aberdeen angus and hereford cattle on their clover and wildlife rich meadows, and have free-range Gloucester Old Spot pigs close to the farmyard.

As well as the beef, lamb and pork they sell their own dry cured bacon, pork sausages free range organic eggs, fresh locally grown vegetables, Shropshire Honey, jams, organic ice cream and local speciality cheeses. Fresh meat is available every week and there is always frozen meat in the freezer. All meat is slaughtered locally and butchered and hung (21 days) onsite. Ben has also ventured into Fordhall Hog Roasts for parties, weddings, special occasions, which is the only way they can expand their extensive farming enterprise.

Park Hill Farm is a family farm owned by Patsy and her husband, John Pimlott. Both the Darlington's and Pimlott's have very long traditions of farming, with both families originating in Cheshire, and moving to next door farms in Shropshire in the 1950's.
At Park Hill Farm the old farming traditions of producing slowly maturing beef cattle, and the love of horses (which both families once used to work the land) have been combined with the farm diversifying into supplying sumptuous beef direct to the public through the Park Hill Farm retail shop and Farmers' Markets.

The Farm is unique – it sells only beef that has been born and bred at Park Hill – guaranteeing 100% traceability, 100% of the time. We offer excellent choice for families or individuals wishing to buy beef that is tasty and tender, with a free (local) home telephone ordering and delivery service being offered to all our customers. For your convenience we also offer credit/debit card facilities.

The shop offers the choice of individual items, such as half a kilo of mince, one steak, or one beef burger, as well as our famous family “Farmer’s Weekender” and “Poacher’s Supper” boxes. These offer excellent value for money, by giving a discount for quantity.

We pride ourselves on old fashioned customer service, and farming in harmony with nature. Below we have highlighted six reasons that show our commitment to providing the “QUALITY THAT TASTES” that sets us apart from other farm shops.

The traditionally reared English prime beef, gives a "QUALITY THAT TASTES", because we keep to the "old" standards of non-factory farming and feed non-genetically modified corn . Each animal is treated as an individual, allowed to be "free range" by grazing on long established grass pastures as long as the weather allows, and matures slowly.
. Being a family concern, this enables us to offer you a very personal service, so that you can order and enjoy our beef, knowing that "QUALITY TASTE" will be repeated order after order.
We think it is important to handle cattle quietly and to keep stress levels to a minimum, as this is well known to enhance the eating quality of the meat. All meat will be hung for a minimum of 10 days, which will give it a darker colour with added flavour and tenderness.
The farm office is only staffed by Patsy and John themselves, which ensures all details are carefully recorded, and questions about the farm, and or meat, can be answered authoritatively.

BUTTERCROSS SHOWCASED AS FARM WITH EXCELLENT STANDARDS OF PIG WELFARE
Heart of England Fine Foods chose Buttercross, as one of only 3 farms in the region to showcase high standards of pig welfare and production to chefs, buyers and press. The group visited the farm on Tuesday 10th February and enjoyed a tour of the farm and butchery, before enjoying a meal of Buttercross pork at Goldstone Hall Hotel. Apparently they were all very impressed with the farm and the food!!!

What is made at Buttercross?

DRY-CURED BACON – GREAT TASTE AWARD WINNER
‘Just like it used to taste’!All our bacon is dry-cured using a carefully blended mixture of salts and sugars, which are hand-rubbed into the meat. Available as back, middle and streaky, plain or smoked over oak chippings, all have a wonderful taste and texture. Available in 200g packs, 2.5kg catering backs or whole bacons.

SPECIALITY SAUSAGES – GREAT TASTE AWARD WINNER
Hand made sausages using only the best cuts of pork and carefully chosen ingredients, including specially selected seasonings, spices and locally grown herbs and vegetables. There is a wide range of flavours to suit all tastes from traditional breakfast sausage to the slightly more spicy!

GAMMONS & COOKED HAMS – GREAT TASTE AWARD WINNER
As with the bacon, the meat is cured using a special mixture of salts and sugars and then allowed time to mature and for the flavours to develop – so whether you choose gammons to cook yourself, or our delicious cooked ham, steeped in honey and slowly boiled or roasted to perfection – you will be guaranteed a taste sensation. Gammons are available as whole legs, joints or steaks, and the cooked hams in whole or half joints or ready sliced.

FRESH PORK
Our policies on rearing our pigs in such a natural, free- range environment are well rewarded when tasting our fresh pork, this coupled with experienced and skilful preparation results in succulent and tasty meat in a whole range of cuts.

BUTTERCROSS SPECIALITIES
Not to be outdone by the continentals, we also produce a Shropshire version of PANCETTA – our own belly bacon, smothered in herbs, then air-dried and smoked over oak chippings.

BLACK PUDDING
Made to our own time honoured and unique recipe, packed with flavour and goodness this old favourite is enjoying a renaissance, currently being particularly popular as a starter in many restaurants

ABERDEEN ANGUS BEEF
3 Week matured Aberdeen Angus beef from home reared pedigree cattle is available exclusively in our own butcheries (Shiffords Grange Farm and Weston Park). Available in a range of cuts the meat is beautifully succulent with a true flavour.

WESTON PARK LAMB
Reared with care on the Weston Park estate the lamb is available in a range of cuts and never disappoints with its delicious full flavour.

FREE-RANGE POULTRY
Although we don't rear the poultry ourselves we demand that our producers have the same ethos with regard to welfare of their animals and as such are pleased to supply delicious free range chickens, chicken fillets and portions.

NB Whilst we have limited supplies of homereared Angus Beef and Weston Park lamb, we are able to source locally produced, high quality beef, lamb and poultry for our catering customers..

We know shopping can be a 'toil' at times, however at Buttercross we hope it will be a pleasurable experience as well ~ there is plenty of safe car parking, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the shop where we are just as happy to have a chat about the farm and the produce as we are to sell the products!! Mike, our shop butcher, will give advice on cuts of meat, and will cut meat to your requirements, and, as all the other products are locally produced we can tell you the 'story' of every product in the shop!! In addition, there are rare Large Black pigs and piglets to see on the approach to the shop and resident donkeys in the paddock by the car park to say hello to!!

Welcome to Hungersheath Farm Shop
We are a family-run dairy farm of 270 acres, located on the beautifully rural Shropshire/Staffordshire border, between Market Drayton and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
We started as a pick-your-own in 1986, we then began to grow and cut asparagus for sale in 1988. We now have 25 acres on the farm growing fruit and vegetables.
Enjoy our new Sunday roast
We are now offering a Sunday roast in our tea room between 12.00 - 2.00pm. Enjoy the fresh meat and veg all produced on the for £10 for two courses. Using our own produce we can offer this delicious meal with using less than 20 food miles!

New Swedish cross bread cows

We have started to cross breed our cows with swedish red bulls which will we hope give us a cow that will have better feet and higher fertility so she will stay in the herd for longer. They will also have more calves and although we will lose some milk with this new breed we hope the welfare of the cows will be improved and therefore will live longer

Our Award Winning Asparagus
Hungersheath Farm is renowned for its award winning Asparagus. The first spears appear at the end of April but the season lasts just eight weeks so feast while you can!Visit the farm shop for our highest quality produce this year.

The farm consists of 200 dairy cows that are milked twice a day giving 7,100 litres of milk on a fairly extensive system relying on our light land to produce quality grass and forage maize. From these girls we produce the beef animals that provides our meat for the farm shop. The farm has 270 acres of land used for both grazing and crops.
Each year for the shop we grow:
14 acres of asparagus 4 acres of Strawberries (1/4 acres poly tunnels, autumn strawberries)1/2 of an acres of Raspberries (1/4 acres poly tunnels, autumn raspberries) 1/4 of an acres of Blackcurrant and Redcurrants1/4 of an acres of Gooseberries
We also grow Rhubarb, Peas, Beans any many many more veg to supply to our shop.
The Farm Shop opened in 2004, with a full butchery, selling our own and local meat. Much of the produce in the shop comes straight from the farm or locally, and we pride ourselves on supporting local businesses. At present, we buy from over 30 businesses within a 35 mile radius. Indeed, even our dedicated staff of ten all live within three miles of the shop too, so we couldn’t be more of a “local shop”!

The Tea Room opened in 2007, converted from a traditional carthouse building. It’s a fantastic setting to enjoy a morning cappuccino, a light meal, a strawberry cream tea, or a traditional Sunday roast. Most of the food prepared comes from the Farm Shop, so it is also local, and it is prepared fresh to order.

Nick and Helen Furnival
We are most famous for our asparagus, and visitors come from far and wide to sample it. It is always such a joy to see our loyal asparagus customers return each year, seeking the ultimate “king of vegetables”, as Nick puts it. “The important time for this year’s crop of asparagus was last summer, after we had finished picking. The fern grew very well, indicating a potentially healthy crop this season. We are also very excited about the new 3 acre patch. This, and the mild weather that we have been having, will give us an early start”

We are a first generation family farmers based on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Tarporley in Cheshire. In 2004 we set up Tiresford Guernsey Gold with the intention to provide the best yogurt and cheese that we could, and show off the top quality milk of our award winning herd of pedigree Guernsey cows. We hope you will enjoy the results ...

The milk from the Guernsey cow is a sweet, creamy milk, as anybody who has ever tasted it will testify, and this means that no sugar (or God forbid, artificial sweeteners) are necessary to sweeten the yogurts that we produce. Added to this is the fact that although our yogurts are a wholemilk product they are lower in calories than many of their 'low fat' counterparts. The yogurts are also 'live' meaning that as well as retaining their superior taste and quality, there are the substantial benefits of a mild pro-biotic culture which helps aid digestion. Our 'Natural' yogurt, a winner of the silver award at the Nantwich Show, is made with just the milk and the culture.

We provide four flavours of yogurt; Strawberry, Raspberry, Black Cherry and Natural each with their own unique taste and qualities.
The Natural yogurt, which forms the base for the fruit yogurts, contains milk and culture with no other added ingredients.
The cultures used are mild Bio Cultures and consist of:
Streptococcus Salivarius ssp Thermopilus
Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Bifidobacterium Longum.
The fruit in the fruit yogurts is stabilised to prevent secondary fermentation, using a standard 'jamming procedure'.

The ingredients are listed in order of percentage of inclusion.

The fruit content is never less than 7.5% of the fruit yogurt
Our fruit yogurts are available in 140g pots (15g more than most similar products) with our Natural yogurt available in 400g large pots. We are also looking at making the fruit flavours available in the larger pots in the future.

Tiresford was also recommended by the 'Savvy Shopper' in the Daily Telegraph as a place to buy additive-free yogurts. Rose Princes article said 'Guernsey milk contains a very high proportion of healthy beta-carotene, which is actually visible in this delicious, golden-coloured yogurt.

As well as our range of yogurts we are also able to offer a Brie cheese developed from Guernsey Milk.

We call this Golden Brie due to the distinct yellow colour of the cheese, which deepens as the summer progresses. This has proved a big hit with customers at Farmers' Markets who are attracted both by the natural colour of the cheese, and the unique properties of Guernsey milk. These properties ensure that unlike most other cheeses of this kind, the product continues to mature and develop even when cut into!
In addition the Golden Brie has also been successful beating both the French and Somerset Brie at the Bath and West Agricultural Show.

About us
Lightwood Cheese is set in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside, a stone's throw from the birthplace of Edward Elgar.

Originally based in Cotheridge, Lightwood Cheese moved just up the road to Lower Broadheath in late 2006. The new premises are purpose built for food production, and are designed to meet today's stringent food safety requirements.

At Lightwood Cheese we employ traditional artisan cheesemaking methods, and our cheeses are entirely handmade and unpasteurised. We have policy of not doing business with the supermarket chains, instead preferring to deal with local farm shops and delicatessens. The business is also expanding through specialist outlets further afield, and I am keen to contact more. I invite you to sample our products at one of the outlets listed.
