We wouldn’t have thought to ask Nouriel Roubini about Bernie Madoff’s alleged Ponzi scheme. But someone else has, and it’s thrown up an interesting tirade from the master of economic doom and gloom. Reprinted in its full forcefulness below, with selected highlights from us.A reporter contacted me today with the following question:“I am a reporter  and I am doing a story on Bernard Madoff’s life after pleading guilty. As part of this I was wondering if you could comment on what significance he will have in the history of this period. Will he represent more than a scamster who stole a lot of money from a lot of people? As Bernie Ebbers and Ken Lay came to embody corporate greed and deceit, what will Madoff symbolize? I would really appreciate your insights on this”.Here is my answer fleshed out in full:Americans lived in a Made-off and Ponzi bubble economy for a decade or even longer. Madoff is the mirror of the American economy and of its overleveraged agents: a house of cards of leverage over leverage by households, financial firms and corporations that has now gone bust.When you put zero down on your home and you thus have no equity in your home your leverage is literally infinite and you are playing a Ponzi game.And the bank that lent you with zero down, a NINJA  (no income, no jobs and assets) liar loan that was interest only for a while with negative amortization and an initial teaser rate was also playing a Ponzi game.And private equity firms that did over a $1 trillion of LBOs in the last few years with debt to earnings ratio of 10 or above were also Ponzi firms playing a Ponzi game.A government that will issue trillions of dollars of new debt to pay for this severe recession and to socialize private losses may risk to become a Ponzi government if - in the medium term - does not return to fiscal discipline and debt sustainability.A country that has - for over 25 years - spent more than income and thus run an endless string of current account deficit and has thus become the largest net foreign debtor in the world (with net foreign liabilities that are likely to be over $3 trillion by the end of this year) is also a Ponzi country that may eventually default on its foreign debt if it does not - over time - tighten its belt and start running smaller current account deficits and actual trade surpluses.Whenever you persistently  consume more than your income year after year (a household with negative savings, a government with budget deficit, a firm or financial institution with persistent losses, a country with a current account deficit) you are playing a Ponzi game; in the jargon of formal economics you are not satisfying your long run intertemporal budget constraint as you borrow to finance the interest rate on your previous debt and you are thus following an unsustainable debt dynamics (discounted value of your debt growing without limit in NPV terms as the debt grows faster than the interest rate on it) that eventually leads to outright insolvency.According to Minsky and according to economic theory Ponzi agents (households, firms, banks) are those who need to borrow more to repay both principal and interest on their previous debt; i.e. Minsky’s “Ponzi borrowers” cannot service neither interest or principal payments on their debts. They are called “Ponzi borrowers” as they need persistently increasing prices of the assets they invested in to keep on refinancing their debt obligations.By this standard media US households whose debt relative to income went from 65 percent 15 years ago to 100 percent in 2000 to 135 percent today were playing a Ponzi game.And an economy where the total debt to GDP ratio (of households, financial firms and corporations) is now 350 percent was a Made-Off Ponzi economy.  And now that home values have fallen 20% and they will fall another 20% before they bottom out and now that equity prices have fallen over 50% (and may fall further) using homes as an ATM machine and borrowing against it to finance Ponzi consumption is not feasible any more. The party is over for households, banks and non-bank highly leveraged corporations.The bursting of the housing bubble and of the equity bubble and hedge funds bubble and private equity bubble showed that most of the “wealth” that supported the massive leverage and overspending of agents in the economy was a fake bubble-driven wealth; now that these bubble have burst it is clear that the emperor had no clothes and that we are the naked emperor. A rising bubble tide was hiding the fact that most Americans and their banks were swimming naked; and the bursting of the bubble is the low tide that shows who was naked.Madoff may now spend the rest of his life in prison. The US household and financial and non financial firms and government may spend the next generation in debtor’s prison having to tighten their belts to pay for the losses inflicted by a decade or more of reckless leverage, over consumption and risk taking.Americans, let us look at ourselves in the mirror: Madoff is us and Mr. Ponzi is us!

You’re a Ponzi, Nouriel’s a Ponzi, we are all Ponzies now.

It seems that is all I hear. I search the prophesy boards to see what God is saying to us.  Favor, Acceptable year of the Lord, rainbows and promises.

Now anyone that knows even a little about us KNOWS we are extreme optimists  and risk takers.  We stand in faith, we seek His face.  Am I bragging?  Nope, just stating the facts so you don’t get the wrong impression.

I watch CNBC daily. Buy, buy, buy at least 80% are saying. But if you check out the economists like Nouriel Roubini you would hear and see a whole different story.  His story is more like the prophets.

Haggai 1:2-11 (NIV)  This is what the LORD Almighty says: "These people say, 'The time has not yet come for the LORD's house to be built.'" 3 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: 4 "Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?" 5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it." 7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways.  8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD. 9 "You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.  10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. 11 I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands."

Hab. 2:8-9  "'Woe to him who piles up stolen goods  and makes himself wealthy by extortion!  How long must this go on?' 7 Will not your debtors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their victim.

So I guess I could say..please don’t blow sweet nothings in my ear, tell me the truth so I can REPENT and then move on to a land flowing with milk and honey. And…I may need to repent for you too, since you think everything is “ok”.

Listen to our podcasts. Hear our words.  We believe God is raising up the Joseph generation. But we are also aware that Joseph, after he revealed the dreams to the Kings men, thought for sure it was time for release. Remember me to your King he said when they were released. And how much more time was spent in prison?  Oh ya.

Prepare for war. This is a season of war over supply and WE MUST WIN. But it will be a battle so put on your armor and get ready. And while you are standing there all dressed in your armor, remember to pray for your brother and your neighbor because they are losing their houses and can’t feed their children. The elderly retirement accounts are wiped out and they are seeking work at Sears.  Need a reality check. Spend more time in prayer and less with TV.

Wow. Sorry.  Just had to lay it out there.

So I say, many have cast their anchor in a sea of regrets and allowed it to be stuck in the mire.  Know the Lord is saying, CUT LOOSE THAT ANCHOR, raise up  your sail of expectation and look to me to send the winds of change to cause  you to move forward to the next season.  Let go of those bruised expectations and allow me to show you the plans I have for you that have not changed.  And remember that those plans are good and not evil.

You see, says the Lord, I am not intimidated with your ability or mistakes you may have made, I knew of them when I formed you, nor does the economics of the world dictate MY PLANS I have for you.  No, my plans are adjacent to my KINGDOM ECONOMICs which has no lack.  So I say to you,

Acts 27-Read first

·       Vs 4 “the winds were against us”, and in this hour it seems financially that this is the case.   (stats) We embraced the prosperity message with every ounce of our fiber, but since the “love of the world” still resided within our hearts the message became a way to obtain the “American dream”.  Visions of big houses, fancy cars, fur coats and diamond rings danced in our heads like a Santa wish list. (The “word” sown in our lives grabbed the hand of the “lust of other things”, those things entered in; all we had heard became unfruitful.)

·       Vs 7 “we made slow headway” every step forward became two steps back.  Plans and procedures that used to work no longer do and every investment, even paycheck, is like Haggai 1:6 “Give careful thought to your ways. (see end notes) you have planted much but have harvested little.  You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have our fill.  You put on clothes, but are not warm.  You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.  We just can’t seem to get ahead. Getting by, but barely.  Starting to sense something is wrong.  Direction?  Did we miss God somewhere?  Did I forget to tithe in an area? No. I follow the law of the tithe to a formula. That can’t be it. I know, I need to give more. 10% not enough. Need to go beyond the tithe to offerings.  Surely that is it.  We can get through this

·       Vs 7b and 8 “when the wind did not allow us ot hold our course….we moved with difficulty and now nothing is working.  Can’t meet the monthly or even weekly obligations.  Washer breaks. Car repairs. Kid’s tuition. Should go talk to someone, but it’s not that bad and we sure don’t want anyone to know we are having financial problems.  Besides it would show a lack of “faith” on our behalf if we “confessed” we were having problems.  Confessions pour forth some mixed with tears, but they are the tears of Esau.  THANK YOU LORD YOU HAVE SUBSTAINED US AND THAT WE ARE GIVERS. LORD I LIFT BEFORE YOU WHAT WE HAVE GIVEN AND I THANK YOU YOUR WORD SAYS THAT BECAUSE I GIVE AND IT WILL BE GIVEN UNTO ME..PRESSED DOWN…denial.  We can get through this.  Not sure how but we can. Wife takes a job, or maybe he takes a second job. Leads to family problems later but is the only path that we can see right now.  Cutting back on all extras.  Less dining out, less travel, discretionary items cut back.  We can get through this.

·       Vs 9 “much time had been lost and sailing had already become dangerous…Paul warned them.” Now you know something is wrong.  The messages coming forth are to check your hearts.  To realign with the Spirit of God.  About this time a critical spirit begins whispering in our ears.  “The leadership is not in touch with the Spirit of God”, it says.  “Why don’t they change the church services to…and…” it rattles over and over in your ears all the faults of others. 

You hear news messages of foreclosures and debit problems.  You begin thanking God you are a giver and that no harm comes near your dwelling, but there is still that gnawing feeling that something is wrong and God is telling you to GET OUT of DEBT.  But how can I?  I can’t meet my monthly obligations and anyway it is just gas, some eating out, which we deserve, (justification), and car repairs.  We can get through this.

·       Vs 10 …I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to the ship and cargo and to our own lives also second warning sign.  You start noticing that others could be going through the same thing as you are.  Not only those in the world, but in the church.  More “giving” messages come.  Your own giving has been less because, lets face it, your income is less and what there is just does not go around for even the basics.  You realize others possibly are in the same boat as you and you are somewhat “comforted”.  You begin sharing with them the hardships. At first in a joking manner but when they take the bait the conversation turns to just how “tough” it is.  Anyone at this point in the journey who has broken out and made it over you avoid  Why would God bless them and not me you ask, (quietly to yourself, of course)? 

·       Vs 13 when a gentle south wind began to blow, they thought they had obtained what they wanted…finally a break comes.  A new job offer, an investment opportunity that would double what little you could scrap up. Knowing fully that you would be investing precious bread and not even scare seed, your mind convinces you that a great harvest will come out of this opportunity and you risk what little you don’t have. There is not quite enough for the investment so you borrow some of it on credit cards with the assurance, to yourself, that you will pay it back shortly. This is finally our break.  THANK YOU LORD.  You jump both feet into that new job or investment and….

·       Vs 14-15 before very long, a wind of hurricane force….swept down…the ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind so we gave way to it and were driven along. The job was not of God. It was deceptions to carry us further off the path than before. Those we sought counsel with had warned us, but only gently.  Confusion sweeps in like a flood and we can not even determine any paths let alone the right one.  The investment goes bad and all is lost. We had wagered not what we had extra but our very living itself. Now all is lost and we are worst off than before.  Messages come forth that when you are in a storm go back to the last placed you “MISSED” God and start over.  This storm is SO bad, you think, that I can’t even tell where that place was let alone how to get there.  At this point we rely on the scripture where God told Moses to stand still and he would see the salvation of his God.  We try to stand still, but the storm is driving us.  Carrying us further and further into the depths of despair.  We meditate in Job.  He begins despising even life itself.  We remember the life insurance policies and wonder if it still pays with suicide.  An accident maybe? 

Nighttime, the hours of darkness are the worst. As we lay on our beds the peaceful sleep promised is not there. Torments of failure, disgrace and possible bankruptcy and foreclosure run over and over in our heads.  What do we pay first?  We have to have the car to get to work, if we still have a job, or to look for work if we don’t.  We can not survive without the car.  Have to have the house for the children, my wife, (husband).  Ok, pay the car, house and utilities and cell phone everyone else will have to wait. 

·       Vs 17 ….fearing they would run aground they lowed the anchor and let the ship be driven along….We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day we began to throw the cargo overboard..  We look around the house. What can we sell to get a little more cash to make ends meet?  Let’s have a garage sale.  We go through cabinets, drawers, and closets pulling out the little stuff. Unnecessary things. Extra bowls, toasters, coats, snow skis and water boards.  We unplug the 3rd refrigerator and put that in the sale.  An ad goes in the paper and a sign by the road.  Success. We are swamped.  Selling a few big items and all the little extras gets us a step further down the road and more distance from foreclosure. As we look around in the following weeks we notice garage sales everywhere, and no one is at them.  Toys are lined up on the road ways and in parking lots for sale.  It’s starting we say to ourselves.  THEY have to sell everything.  WE are so glad that WE have the “promises” of God.  WE are so glad that WE are tithers.  WE are so glad that we are not like they are.  God will come through……

It is about here that we notice the gnawing in our hearts.  Something is wrong.  Not with others, or the church, but inside. We can’t put our finger on it but God is working out some deep heart issues.  We cry ourselves to sleep at night.  Words of faith that we speak seem empty and the fight against that begins also.  This throws everything into confusion, wavering and we just can not find our direction from here.

·       Vs 19 ….on the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands.  Unable to find the ends to meet together, we start unloading the big stuff. Extra cars, jewelry, coats, guns, extra appliances, yard tools, tractors, snowmobiles.  We take our guns to Cabela’s to sell and find out over the weekend they had 300 come in to that store alone.  The price they will pay has dropped, but desperate, we take anything.  Designer watches, diamonds and exotic trinkets  go up for sale on eBay, scrap gold goes to the coin dealers, and we dig our old coins up out of the safe.  The market we are finding out is saturated and no one is buying anything.  The house has been for sale all year and no one even looked at it.  We drop the price, then drop it again.  The second mortgage is now behind and we barely make the 1st.  All the credit cards are 30 days late and it is time to sort out who gets paid. Then starts the next phase.

·       Vs. 20 when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.  All the promises seem distant and so does God.  We jokingly say “He’s late”. But despair has set in.  Church is now not a regular routine.  We don’t go Wednesday, and miss a few Sunday’s. Bitterness has taken root and is expressed everywhere.  At each other, at the church, yes, even at God. Why doesn’t he deliver us?  WE did everything right. WE followed the formula; we loved, served and gave religiously.  When we do go Sunday the message on giving makes us even bitterer.  We gave, we tried giving our way out, and the storm still came against our house. We don’t understand why God is upset with us.  We haven’t a clue where we went wrong, where we missed God.  We have lists of what we could have done and what we should have did. Mistakes. They were all mistakes. One right after another and now they condemn us.  Husband and wives begin to drift apart, blaming each other and worse yet, themselves for the disaster they are in. 

·       Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Prov. 3:5 The Spirit of God keeps saying.  The heart is beginning to change. Through the prompting and wonderful Holy Spirit we are realize that all along what we really wanted was all the “stuff” back.  We wanted our lifestyle back the way it was.  We wanted to unknowingly return to serving God and mammon.  We expect Him to be the “Sugar Daddy” in the sky who fulfilled all our wants.  We had taken the prosperity message, hook, line and sinker into the bottomless pit.  There we molded it to our own desires and called them God’s.

 “Rend your heart and not your garment”, He speaks gently to our souls. Joel 2:13 God is not after your wealth or your giving* He is after your heart.  He wants you as His friend and lover.  He wants to spend time with you and enjoy conservations with you.  He wants you to lay aside the things of this world and its desires, trading them for Him.  God wants you.

*You MUST know that your giving is an expression of your love for God and for His Saints.  You give not of obligation, but because you love and it is not of measure but of all because…you have been bought with a price and you are no longer your own.  We are bond slaves and ALL we have belong to the Master.

 Packing is the hardest.  3 pairs of jean, 5 pairs of shorts, piles of t-shirts, cute little dresses and then there's shoes. How do I know which pairs I will want to wear?  We always pack too much and end up wearing only a few things.  (Kelly is worse than I am.)

 As we face the entry into the land God has prepared for us are we over packed?  Or do we have baggage we need to leave at the gate?

In Luke 5 Jesus had asked the fishermen, (Peter and John) to cast their nets out one more time.  They were exhausted and at the end of their, if you will allow me  here, NETS.  They had fished all night, all week, maybe all year for all we know, yet caught nothing.  Why would one more time work? What was different about this time?

4. Vs. 7 signaled to partners to help and filled both boats so they began to sink

6. I need you to go fishing 1 more time I realize you have been fishing all night long but I need you now on my command to go cast your net 1 more time.

1. I know you feel that you have failed these many times year after year you tried all the formulas of men
2. Your failures to you were counted as loss but to God they had great value in them
3. For many the season of extraction is coming to an end
4. He wants us to a place where our only desire is to please Him
5. I still have your dream Paul waited 17 years in isolation with no recognition and didn"t have it going on
6. David waited on kingship in a cave dodging Saul’s persecution of him

3. There are spiritual inheritances and assignments that have been abandoned and unfulfilled but are available to be picked back up again (KJS has one of these)
1. In the days ahead the Lord is going to direct many on how to access these unused treasures There is an appointed time of Favor that comes in the day of salvation
2. A designated time which the Father is investing into Jesus inheritance (which is doing His will here in the earth and taking ownership)
3. God wants to take many people through a resurrection process He wants to bring to life divine purposes that we have placed on the altar and killed
4. It is time for our faith to be stirred up again God is going to bring a resurrection anointing to us
5. It will come first to dreams that have died, it will end in a manifestation of true resurrection anointing
6. Isaiah 49:8 In the time of my favor I will answer you and in the day of salvation I will help you I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the peoples to restore the land (marketplace) and to reassign its desolate inheritances (Vs. 9 to say to the captives Come Out)

4. The promise will make way for the purpose
1. Micah 2:13 one who breaks open the way will go up before them they will break through the gate and go out their King will pass through before them the Lord at their head
2. We are not going to make it into the new place that God desires for us unless He moves us forward. 
3. He has to break open the way into the new thing that He is calling us to
4. Sometimes this requires for you to burn your map
5. I long to go where only you can bring me

5. There is a certain weariness of carrying so much purpose without a natural manifestation
1. This too will be removed in a moment of time at release
2. I didn’t think I could get up and go fishing one more time
3. Just as God held nothing back from Solomon He will hold nothing back from the generation who longs to bring Jesus everything that belongs to Him
4. These kinds of riches or resources or stewardships cannot be trusted to those who seek their own success
5. Nor those who tithe their small percentages on earth,
6. Rather they will be allotted to those who live sacrificially
7. those who will give their last (mite for the temple offering)
8. If your deeds are to be recognized before God they will be born out of a Holy sacrifice with no strings attached.
9. To boast of your works before God and demand restitution is an insult

6. Heavens resources are being poured upon those who will unselfishly give Jesus His reward
1. God wants us to give according to the desires of Jesus heart
2. The heart attitude describes a people who give beyond their own ability spoken by Paul
3. God is calling for a people who will build their storehouse in heaven
4. He is seeking a people who have a reworked eternal value structure that does not revolve around the world’s economy
5. Jesus burning desire is so threatening to those who possess anything that many encounter the heart of this beautiful man only to depart like the young rich ruler
6. This rich man could not give according to Jesus desire because His value system was entangled with the worlds and cost much to high

7. God is so faithful to deliver the fruit of our womb
1. Isaiah 66:9 Do I bring to the moment of truth and not give delivery?, says the Lord, or Do I close up the womb when I bring to delivery?, says our God
2. God will birth everything He has conceived in our spiritual being He Is Faithful
3. Even more than you see
4. Isaiah 49:6 It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring those of Israel I have kept  I will also make you a light for the gentiles that you may bring my salvation to all the ends of the earth
5. Isaiah explained how the lord prepared him for a specific purpose but because the Lords favor came on him he received an expansion of that purpose
6. Even larger stewardship here and an inheritance in heaven

8. Proclamation over You
1. Isaiah 62:11 the Lord has made proclamation to the ends of the earth says to the daughter of Zion see your Savior comes see His reward is with Him and His recompense accompanies Him
2. Micah 4:13 Rise and thresh O Daughter of Zion for I will give you horns of iron, I will give you  hoofs of bronze and you will brake to pieces many nations
3. You will devote their ill gotten gains to the Lord their wealth to the Lord of all the earth
