I don’t know about you, but I am planning on becoming financially free over the next few years and in order to make sure that I get it right, no matter what the economic climate is throwing at us over the coming years, I understand that I can not just put all my eggs in one basket, namely only making money on the internet, but that I need to learn about lots of different baskets. Richard Duncan, a well known economist, who is one of Robert’s advisers and who Robert refers to as the modern day John Maynard Keynes, put it into context and words that even I could understand:

“Have different investments working for you to make sure that you don’t get caught up in the coming (inevitable) bust.” Richard suggests to invest in the following areas:

1 – Real Estate, e.g. buy houses and let them out
2 – Debt with a fixed interest rate, e.g. fixed rate mortgage, to make sure you always know your outgoings
3 – Gold
4 – Blue Chip stocks with high dividends, all over the world (not just in one country)
5 – Government bonds (in particular German & US bonds)

It really opened my eyes and although it all sounded gloom and doom, because it really is quite gloomy at the moment, it actually propelled me into action and I have come up with a strategic plan to get myself out of the Rat Race within the next few months.

Do good stuff – not only on the Internet!

So what do I mean with this? Basically, there are two ways how you can launch a new product into the internet marketing world, the right way and the wrong way. Or: The old way and the new way. Or: Using Hope Marketing or the Product Launch Formula.

Are you old enough to remember how we used to launch new products in the olden days? It included writing a good sales letter with a captivating headline, a great story and useful content. Then you would state the benefits of the product and why your customer just can’t say ‘no’ to the offer. Further you would deliver some proof, usually in the form of testimonials. Then you would spell out your guarantee, to make sure people understand that they can’t get it wrong if they buy your product and finally you would include the call to action.

Now all you had to do was to buy a list or ideally have some sort of list already and then send the sales letter out, either via snail mail or via email. Just in case you are laughing, that really was the way how new products used to be launched. And yes, you are right to laugh. Because if you would rely on this ‘Hope Technique’ these days – hope that people will actually open your email or open the letter – you just know that you wouldn’t make a living on the internet at all. Think about it, these people don’t really know you, so why should they open your message in the first place?

Let’s have a look and understand how the new formula will help you to cause a Tsunami in sales and a comfortable living through internet marketing. The most important difference is that instead of putting all our hope in an amazing sales letter that we then hope will get opened and read and leads to action on behalf of your contact, we now know that the money is not in the product any longer, but in the list and to be precise, in the relationship that you have with your list. So what does that mean?

If you build a responsive list of followers you can make sure every new product launch is a success, often it doesn’t even matter if the sales letter is not as good as it could be. The important thing now is trust. If you have looked after your list, you know they trust you. If you put out great content to your list on a regular basis, they are gagging to receive your next message and if you then come up with a new product, you can be sure that your followers want to support you.

So there you have it, the new way of launching products on the internet is through the product launch formula of building and maintaining and then marketing to a responsive list. Make sure you look after the contacts on your list and you can be sure that they will look after you.

Having been working in the industry for a while myself I found that the one question I am being asked over and over again is about creating your own product. Basically, everybody seems to agree that in order to make the real money on the internet you should sell your own product. Affiliate marketing is great of course, and it’s something you can easily do on the side, however, the big money is in your own products, but ‘How on earth could I ever create a product myself?”…. “I wouldn’t know where to start!”… “It’s too difficult!”… I have heard it all.

But I beg to differ. Let’s think about it, if you are running your business by yourself you have got to come up with an idea about which product to tackle next, then write articles and submit them to various article directories, produce videos and submit those, write blogs, keep on top of your social networking, write messages to the people on your list, write auto-responders, potentially send invoices, keep on top of your accounts, tax & payroll, go to seminars and networking events to find potential new JV partners.

You would want to read other people’s articles and blogs in order to know what’s going on in the internet marketing world… and I am sure you could find lots more things that need doing on a regular or even daily basis in order to keep on top of your game.

If you have been working in this sector for a while you know that being a marketer is not an easy job as such. It’s demanding, it needs you to be ahead of the game if you want to make good money, it requires a lot of discipline and most importantly, you need to be able to see the big picture. Don’t let anybody tell you that being an internet marketer is easy. Also, I have heard some of the internet guru’s say before that ‘Anybody can do it’, but I am telling you that in my opinion this is just not the case at all.

Not everybody has the attributes necessary – as mentioned above – to be a successful internet marketer and some people should just stick with their job. However, what if you have all those characteristics and are making some money on the internet, whilst maybe still working your job and it just all seems too much to deal with? That’s where outsourcing comes in for you.

Find people to help you for example with article writing, especially if that is an area that isn’t a strength of yours. If you, like me, find it difficult to produce youtube videos, but recognize that they are a must for your marketing strategy, then find somebody who likes making them and so on.

One thing I am currently considering is to give all my affiliate marketing to a guy in the Philippines. He already writes for other people, but quite honestly, I could use him full time and I believe that the $400 a month I’d have to pay him in order to work just for me, he will make back in no time. And in just a few months from now, he will pay for himself plus make me a profit.

And what would stop me taking on a second person to do exactly the same? Once I have a few people working for me I will most definitely hire a project manager and then I am finally free to do what I really want to do and produce my first product! Think about it, it really does make sense.

Given the millions of people who are searching the store every day for the latest must have widget, there is no limit to the amount of money one simple app could make you, even if you only sell it for pennies.

However, before starting to develop your first iPhone application, make sure you follow these useful steps:

Step 1:
You’ll need an Apple Mac to write your iPhone application. Choose it carefully and make sure you can actually run the iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) on that machine. Tip: The SDK only runs on an Intel based Apple Mac.

Step 2:
I suggest that, before you even write the very first word of code for your first application, you study one that is already running and make yourself familiar with the code. Go through it, slowly, and understand the code before you start on your own application. It’s worth taking the time and truly understand all the different elements. Don’t worry though, it’s not rocket science!

Step 3:
Most importantly and a step where lots of people fall short: Design first, develop second. Make sure you know exactly how each screen is going to look like, where the buttons go, etc. Do not miss this crucial step!

Step 4:
Once you’ve written your application, do test it thoroughly. Make sure everything works as it should do. After all the hard work you don’t want your application rejected by Apple. Tip: Follow the guidelines on Apple’s website. They are very good and doing this will save you a lot of effort and time.

Step 5:
Lastly, make sure you tell everyone about your new app. Don’t forget any social networking sites you are a member of, like Facebook and let the world know what you have achieved.

If you follow these steps, there is no reason why your application couldn’t be another great success. The market is definitely there and chances are high that someone somewhere is currently waiting for your app.

Whether you’re a programmer or whether you’re simply a businessman who has access to outsourced developers, creating the application is only half the battle. Once it’s ready for release, we have to consider doing more than simply uploading it to Apples iStore in order to see a good return on our investment (whether time or money).

These are three tips that I hope you’ll find useful for promoting your iPhone apps.

Tip 1 – Build a Branded Website
The challenge when using iTunes is that we have very little control over the placement of our app. In order for our marketing efforts to be truly effective, we need a piece of Internet real estate over which we have complete control. By creating a website for our app (no matter how simple that site is) we suddenly regain control of our brand and have fixed location to which we can drive traffic. From here, it’s a simple matter to link back to the iStore in order for your customers to buy your iPhone app.

Tip 2 – Go Viral
If you’ve been around the Internet for any length of time, I’m sure you’ve heard the term “viral marketing”. This technique is all about encouraging people to tell others how great your app is and can be one of the most effective marketing methods in our arsenal. From a psychological perspective, we’re not just getting people to tell others that our app exists, we’re actually getting an implicit recommendation which carries huge weight.

You can implement this in a couple of ways:

• By using a “Tell-a-Friend” script on your website
• By using a similar technique from within the application itself

Either way, this shouldn’t be a difficult or costly addition from a development perspective, and the payback in terms of increased traffic will more than justify it.

Tip 3 – Make Use of Social Media
This follow on naturally from our previous tip to some extent, as we’re asking people to make a recommendation via such sites as Twitter and Facebook. However, we can take this to another level by utilising Social Media ourselves as an integrated part of our marketing.

For instance, you can talk about cool features of your app on Twitter, or you can create demo videos of your app in action and post them to YouTube. Whatever approach you prefer, it would be a mistake to ignore the power of social media in your marketing today.

Clearly, these 3 tips for promoting your iPhone apps are meant simply as an introduction. However, if you follow them, you’ll have a solid foundation on which to build the rest of your marketing. The camera in the iPhone not only takes great still photos, it also shoots pretty good video. OK, so it won’t be worrying anyone in Hollywood, but it’s certainly good enough to shoot a holiday video or to produce something for YouTube. As with any camera, the results are good if you apply good camera technique.

I particularly love the user interface for manipulating your images which makes great use of the cool gesture interface for resizing, rotating etc.

All in all, I would thoroughly recommend that every gadget lover in the world gets hold of an iPhone as soon as humanly possible!
