There are a number of ways to make money with affiliate marketing. Some use articles, some do videos or podcasts, blogs are always a great idea, and your opt-in mailing list should always be your biggest source of affiliate marketing commissions.

Internet Marketing Advice To See You Through The Current Global Recession

Here's some Internet marketing honesty you won't see many places: right now online marketing sucks. Oh, it still beats pretty much every other form of work-at-home business, but the numbers are way off compared to a year ago.

If you're an old pro at Internet marketing I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but as an industry we seem to be afraid of telling newbies that things aren't all champagne and roses at the moment. The truth is, even with sales down so badly as a result of the recession, there are still plenty of 6, 7 and 8 figure marketers online - we're just not making AS MUCH as we were until the recession hit.

While the worldwide scope of Internet marketing protects us from most localized downturns, a global recession HAS to impact us, and every big marketer I've talked to agrees sales have been off 50% or more since the last week of April, compared to earlier this year or last year. But nobody's talking about it publicly, and it's become the 'elephant in the room' that no one can ignore.

You can see evidence of it all over the online world - in fact, to a big extent it's separated the order-takers from the marketers. The order-takers - those without a marketing background - are trying to compensate by dropping their prices to $1 and $2.95 to try and get more people to buy. This creates a negative spiral - they're still not getting enough total income to survive, and have to be constantly rushing new products (mostly resell rights products) to the market. You see them sending out a new product every third day now...

Don't misunderstand - these are people that were doing well before the downturn hit. It's just that they come from all walks of life before coming online, and don't have experience marketing through a recession. Most of this group got by entirely on resell rights and private label rights products, and don't have their own materials to throw into the pot.

The true marketers, on the other hand, haven't dropped prices, but instead have added value to both their sales process and their products. From releasing great training videos to offering free e-books, they've upped the ante and moved the 'free line' to pay it forward by offering helpful content BEFORE the visitor even sees a salespage. Then they've added more content to their product or included bonuses to beef up the value while holding the price line.

All of that hasn't protected them from the recession, but at least it allows them to make as much as possible during this period and maintains the perceived value of their products. And it's a lot less work than preparing a different product every 2 or 3 days...

Mind you, the smartest ones are putting in extra effort now too - looking for marketing tactics they haven't yet incorporated into their strategies, such as podcasts, videos, press releases, etc. When Willie Crawford and I recorded the Top Traffic Tips we highlighted 15 different ways to promote your site and products, and few of us use all 15 regularly. But a little extra time now to develop additional targeted traffic streams can pay off both instantly and down the road.

Each of us in Internet marketing is at a different point in what we do, same as each of us has different goals for the future. But some steps have been shown to be a part of the Internet marketing success path no matter who we are or what we want from our online marketing efforts...

B) They pretty much followed the same Internet marketing path to success as what I'm about to show you - the route most take to go from newbie to six-figures a year online and beyond.

Step One: As you start to learn the online marketing business, your first profits come from affiliate marketing, since it's the easiest and cheapest way to get started in your own business online...

In Internet Marketing, there's no denying that list building is perhaps the most important aspect - after all, how often have you heard that the ‘money is in the list’? Every morning, like clockwork, I send out our e-zine and by the end of the day have banked another few hundred dollars on average. Twitter has taken the Web 2.0 social networking to a whole new level, and taken both the Internet marketing industry and Internet users in general by storm. As a result, it's also become one of the best tools for Internet marketers - IF you know how to use it correctly for Internet marketing, niche marketing and/or affiliate marketing. In fact, advanced Twitter marketing is one of the fastest ways to get targeted traffic to your sites, blogs and affiliate links and to build your opt-in lists.

To start with, Twitter is known as a 'micro-blogging' site, as it limits your posts, called 'tweets', to 140 characters. While this might seem overly restricitve, remember that the original intended use for tweets was just to answer the question 'What are you doing right now?'

It does take a bit of practice, but once proficient at Twitter you'll find you can convey your message in those short tweets - or at least give people a link to your blog post on the subject. If you're not using Twitter yet, or not familiar enough with the system it employs, start by checking out the information on the Road To Twitter Success website, designed to introduce marketers and businesses to using Twitter commercially.

Twitter is essentially a social site, used by most people to socialize online. But their user base has become so large that any and every viewpoint and niche is now represented well there. Since it can be quick and easy to build a following on Twitter, it has attracted many of the marketers that have found it tough to build a following for their own blogs.

I won't go into the merits of blogs vs Twitter here, because I've already covered that in my post Twitter Marketing or Marketing On Your Blogs - Which Is Better? For our purposes here today, let's just summarize that info and say that for Internet marketing purposes blogs and Twitter should be used in tandem for optimum results.

The secret to success for any business is to provide solutions to your target market. This is true of your Twitter marketing too. If your posts are mostly about the weather, what you had for dinner or what music you're listening to, you won't be building a following that's conducive to marketing on Twitter - you'll be attracting the lonely hearts club who just want someone to interact with online.

Instead, keep the bulk of your posts friendly, informative and niche-focused if you're using Twitter for marketing purposes. Pass along information that helps your target market, including links to your blogs and sites. Pass along informative tweets from those you follow, too. Called 'retweeting', done right this isn't plagiarism but is actually encouraged as one more way to share information. See the blog post Twitter Marketing - Retweet Etiquette on Twitter for the do's and don'ts of retweeting on Twitter.

As you become more proficient at using Twitter for marketing purposes, you'll rapidly find it becoming a major source of targeted traffic - sometimes rivalling the traffic a site or blog gets from the major search engines, especially if the site doesn't score that well on the search engine ranking pages. But while a lot of small business people, Internet marketers and affiliate marketers are using Twitter more and more, most are getting either no or lukewarm results from it becase they have yet to grasp the bigger picture of Twitter marketing and how it ties in with their overall online marketing practices and strategies. As they become more adept at using Twitter and learn the techniques of advanced Twitter marketing they'll see those results improve - often drastically!

Twitter Fast To Stop Worm - Inspires Confidence in Marketing Community!

Over the weekend, four separate attacks were made against Twitter by a hacker's worm - Read more about it here.

The Twitter staff responded lightning-fast, clearing the accounts and removing thousands of potentially harmful tweets. Full kudos to the Twitter team - that type of instant response and thorough follow-up, coupled wth complete transparency so users knew what was going on, protected most users with almost no interruption in service.

Their actions on this matter show they'll do everything possible to protect Twitter users and their accounts, and has to inspire confidence in the popular Web 2.0 social networking site within our online marketing community.

You may ask how you can succeed and profit from affiliate programs when there are so many other people selling the same products or services. Actually, there are many ways to beat the competition, but the first thing to realize is that the affiliate marketing competition isn’t as fierce as you may think.

First, you should know that of the people who sign up for an affiliate program, only about 10% of them will actually work to market the product or service. When first starting out in Internet marketing, affiliate marketing, niche marketing or any other work-at-home online business startup, one of the hardest things to do is to get targeted traffic to your web sites. One of the best ways to do that is to offer free downloads.
