There must be a reason why some affiliates succeed and some fail, a reason why some affiliates profit moderately and some affiliates profit substantially.

There must be a reason.

There is.

And that reason is this: “super” affiliates start, sustain and strengthen relationships with subscribers.

It begins and ends with a list. Even a small one can be a powerful, profitable mechanism if you follow these 7 guidelines…

1. CAPTURE THE OPTIN FIRST.

Instead of sending traffic directly to your affiliate link, send them to YOUR site where you offer some kind of list for them to join. (Hint: Mini-course works best) Once you have them on a list, they become an asset. If you send them directly to an affiliate page and they don’t buy, they’re gone forever. On your list, you can follow-up with them indefinitely.

Note: You can even redirect them to your affiliate link AFTER they join your list, effectively getting them where you wanted them to go in the first place.

2. DIFFERENTIATE THE OFFER.

Instead of sending out the same, tired, lame advertisement that every other affiliate in the world sends out, write your own. Trust me when I say that many people find it OFFENSIVE when they receive two dozens duplicate emails from two dozen list owners all promoting the exact same thing in the exact same way. And even if they don’t find it offensive, it’s not as effective if you simply rinse and repeat what everyone else is doing.

Hint: Here’s how you differentiate…

3. SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE.

Nothing – nothing – nothing speaks louder than RESULTS. If you want to lose a few pounds, who do you turn to? Someone who is still struggling with their own weight or someone you’ve seen drop 35 pounds? Exactly.

The way you make your mailings / ads different is you speak from your own personal experience. This product or service that you are promoting as an affiliate, how has it been useful to you personally? What results have you personally achieved? When you used it, what happened?

Note: If you haven’t personally used the product, then shame on you for trying to make a quick buck from it hocking it to others!

4. OFFER A COMPELLING INCENTIVE.

Another way to be different – and to dramatically increase your chances of getting a sale as an affiliate – is to offer some kind of compelling incentive if someone buys the offer through YOUR referral link. Whether it’s a special report or access to an audio recording, personalized consultation or advertising, a private training call or existing products and services, this can be a highly effective method of converting fence-setters into paying customers.

In order for it to work well, it must be UNIQUE (I.E. You’re the only one making the offer) and USEFUL (I.E. Something of great perceived value to the reader).

Note: Don’t have anything to offer? Don’t worry! There are many ways to easily obtain extra incentives: conduct an interview, hire a ghostwriter to create articles / reports for you, buy reprint rights to other products, assemble a bunch of free articles and other resources into a private access site, etc.

5. LOOK FOR RESIDUAL OPPORTUNITIES.

Rather than exhaust your efforts on purchases that give you a one-time commission, why not make the most of your marketing by looking firstly for offers that pay out ONGOING monthly commissions for your referred sales?

There are many different residual income generating services such as membership sites (ranging from PT Cruisers to weight loss), stock photos and clipart, hosting, autoresponders, databases (from hiking trails to sermon outlines) online magazines and a variety of other subscription based opportunities that reward you with monthly recurring commissions.

While you definitely want a mix of types of affiliate programs to promote, your priority should be in identifying and promoting those services and programs that will pay you month after month, instead of only one time.

6. BUILD A SALES ARMY.

One of the biggest untapped sources of income in any list is that of “turning subscribers into partners”. In other words, find those on your list who are interested in making money and provide them with training and materials to promote affiliate programs as well.

This has a two-fold advantage for YOU:

* First, if you find 2-tier affiliate programs, you can get your subscribers to join the program through your referral. Anytime they get a sale, you’ll earn a commission as well. You effectively get free commissions from their effort.

* Secondly, you can use their efforts to build your own assets. For example: If you provide them with a 10-page report to give away to promote their affiliate link, you can include a page in the report promoting YOUR list! You effectively get free subscribers from their effort.

7. MONETIZE FOR MULTIPLE STREAMS.

As your own list continues to grow, you certainly want to diversify in your offerings. (Not to the point of bombarding your list with offers every day of course!)

* Promote other affiliate programs.
* Create your own products. (Even short $10 reports will earn profit!)
* Establish joint ventures.
* Co-author products.
* Cross promote.
* Conduct surveys.

There are MANY ways to make money from you list and keep your list growing, growing, growing!

Remember, it all comes down to: starting, sustaining and strengthening relationships with subscribers.

And that’s how you make a fortune as an affiliate promoting other people’s products.

English is a universal language, therefore blogging in English will get you a much wider audience as compared to blogging in any other languages.

And if you’re running a business blog, the potential is literally endless with bigger and better opportunities and the ability to widen your social and business networks worldwide.

By the way, I’m not a native English speaker (Malay is my native language.) Nevertheless, I do have the ability to speak and write in English… albeit a basic one. No fancy or creative writings, it’s more important that people understand the message I’m trying to put across.

After all, what’s the point of writing super duper English-for-professors when the majority of the readers understand only a word in a 10-word sentences.

Ok now, what if you’re not a native English speaker and your English sucks? What can you do?

I’ve listed three ways below you can use to start blogging in English:

(1) Have a friend proof-read your draft

Write a post, nevermind the bad grammar, weak sentence structure and so on. As long as it’s basically understandable, you may get someone to help edit the sentence for you and improve your work on a whole.

What if you’re in a place where no one understand English?

No worries. There are sites online you may go to connect with native English speakers and partner with them. Below are some of the sites you may go to if this interest you:

(2) Get A Translator

If you really can’t write in English or if people have problems understand your writing, then what you can do is to just write in your own language. Once done, get a translator to turn it into English.

You may also use the sites listed in #1 to get partners and get them to help you with the translation.

(3) Outsource

This is an easy way out…but it can be very expensive too. If you do have the budget, then you may want to outsource the task of writing blog posts to ghostwriters. There are a bunch of sites providing this service and more, like:

So which is best for you?

Here’s my advice:

It’s best if you get a business partner who’s able to write and converse well in English…someone who’s always within reach to edit your post on the spot, rather than having to contact a translator or go online looking for people to help you everytime you need someone to edit your writings.

And you should have a long-term goal of improving your English and set yourself free from having to be dependent on someone else to prepare a post, even if it’s a business partner. After all, he/she still has his own work to do.

Go read English books, start talking in English with friends, watch English movies, etc.

Remember: You don’t have to be great, you just need to be understood.

As you can see, all along I’ve written in simple English. Nothing classy. And I’m sure you understand every word I write, right? If not, please let me know. My grammar too is just so-so…I’m pretty sure there are grammar mistakes within this post itself.

I’m still learning and improving my command of the language myself…and make it a point to complete at least a book every month and at the same time communicate with my contacts in English since most of them are non-Malay speaking people. You should too.

Don’t get me wrong. 

Private Label Rights (PLR) product is good as it allows you to have your own product instantly.

Personally I do use PLR ebooks and articles and have a whole bunch of them to easily create many marketing courses.

But when it comes to PLR video product, then it’s something else. 

Why?

Let me narrate an experience I had previously…Last year, I made a purchase for a bunch of PLR videos package… and really I was overjoyed. Who wouldn’t? Now I have in my hands, opps computer a set of ready-made video products to sell. 

I was thinking of editing the videos and have my name and url inserted…but before I did that, thought I’d better watch the videos first. You need to know what you’re going to sell, right?

And though the contents were good..but for a PLR, it’s not what I wanted. Because…(and this is the main reason I hate the PLR videos)

(1) …while doing the video recording, the guy creating it did make use of his own sites as references and use his own name to fill up registration forms, eg. on forums, article directories, etc…thus revealing who’s the man behind the video creation. 

What happened when I sell the PLR product? 

Literally, I’m only promoting this guy and his business, not mine. And in fact, it’ll look stupid on me to edit the product and have my name inserted as the product creator when it’s obvious who created it when anyone watch the videos.

And later on, I began to realise there’s actually no real benefit for the buyers of PLR video products… it’s suffice to just purchse the Resale Rights or Master Resale Rights to it. Why? 

(2) What good can a PLR be if you can’t make it unique. 

You’d want to be able to edit the contents and create a totally new-look product no one can guess derived from a PLR product, right? 

Sure, you can add your name and url…but basically, that’s about all you can do. The bulk of the contents will still be the same as others who also purchased the PLR products. It’s unline PLR ebook where you can edit and rewrite the contents to create a new product that’s sure to be different from anyone else.

And also for PLR video…

(3) You can’t change the voice, can you? I know I can’t mimic most people’s voices. Unless you have a voice that sounds the same as the video creator, it doesn’t look right to add some stuff with your voice in it.
Yes, it can be done but sure, it’ll sound funny.

Other than that, I realise most PLR video creators doesn’t seem to have good quality contents to share..basically, it’s the same ol’ stuff like…

- how to register a domain
- how to get a webhost
- how to do a DNS
- how to…

… you’ll find this all over the place, can even get it for free on some sites.

Personally, I feel these PLR video products are really Resale Rights products disguised as a PLR… as it has a strong demand and the chance to charge a higher price for it.

I love video product but I’d rather get the product for personal use if the information is something I need…not to turn around and sell it.

Sure, I’ll promote the product if it’s good quality with helpful contents but only as an affiliate or selling it as a reseller.

Isn’t it plain obvious who makes the most money online? The majority of those online profit makers have their own products that generate wealth for them. 

The benefits are crystal clear, nevertheless I’ve listed below thirteen reasons why you should consider creating products to sell online:

Reason #1: Branding Purposes

Look around the internet. Study what all the top online marketers are doing. I’ve noticed that these established and successful ones build not just a business, but also a branding that separates them from others who just get by.

Are you wondering what’s all this have to do with product creation? 

Now, the branding they’re building may never materialise without creating products to sell in the first place. It’s the critical opening step to take to build a real online business, let alone to create a brand.

Reason #2: Get an Expert Status

Who do most people follow closely online? Yes, it’s the experts whom we try to model after and learn from in the niche we’re in. 

Next question, what is it that give them the expert title? To be an expert, you’ll need to have an intimate knowledge in the market you’re in…but then again, you can have all the knowledge in the world and yet no one knows about you if you don’t have a way of presenting it to them. 

Experts get to be one for the knowledge and information they possess that is packaged into a product for all to see…and BUY. It can be in any form, eg. ebook, physical book, video, audio, seminar, literally anything.

And the cost they have to pay is…of having large followers tracking their every footprint. How nice.

Reason #3: Total product control

As the product owner, you’re in control of your product. You determine the pricing. You decide whether to have affiliate program for it and if so, how much commission to pay your affiliates. Or maybe you’d like to offer any kind of product rights to your buyers. And so on.

Reason #4: Expand Your Marketing Knowledge

Once you’ve been through creating products, naturally you’d want to have a website ready to sell them on. You’ll also want to get your product graphics done.

You may also like to have an upsell and/or downsell or other marketing strategy set up on your site. Perhaps even automate the whole marketing process, leaving you free to concentrate on other important things. 

By going through the processes to sell your product, you’re actually building a real online business. This can only help to develop your marketing skills which can only do good for you and your business.

Reason #5: Have Your Own Affiliates

With an in-demand quality product with generous commissions, you can easily entice affiliates to promote your product. This ultimately brings home more profits for you. It’s a real win-win situation for both you and your affiliates.

If you’re only looking to make a side income, then it’s fine to just focus on affiliate marketing. But if building a successful internet business is what you’d like to have, then you’ll need to have your own products to sell.

If you’re writing an ebook, you can insert links to other products you promote as an affiliate too as an additional profit generator. I’m sure you’ve read and seen many ebooks with links littered throughout, plus a resource section right at the bottom promoting other affiliate products. 

The only way you’ll get to do the same with other marketers’ products is if they allow you to rebrand it with your affiliate link. Then again, they’ll gain more than you do.

Anyway, the method above doesn’t just apply to ebooks alone…you can also promote affiliate products in any other types of products you create.

Reason #10: Easily Acquire Joint Venture Approval

Once you’ve developed into a product creation expert, you’ll find it easy to get the approval from most marketers you approach to do Joint Venture with. You may offer to create product together with/for them and split the profits. 

Beside, being an expert also mean getting a lot of Joint Venture offers from other marketers who wish to work with you.

Reason #11: Sell Your Service

If you can write, you can offer your service as a ghostwriter. There are many people out there constantly looking for writers to create product for them. Or if your expertise is in audio/video creation, programming or any other type of skills, you may sell your service by creating products for others.

Reason #12: Build A Huge List By Giving Away Free Product

Build your list faster by giving away free quality product you’ve created to your market. One way is to approach list owners whose products complement yours and offer your product as a gift to their subscribers. Or you could give away your product in a giveaway event to generate leads from it. 

There are endless ways you could possibly do with your own product to build your list faster. 

Reason #13: Benefit By Solving Other Peoples’ Problems

One of the good thing about creating product is the ability to solve problems others are facing. Aside from the obvious monetary benefit you gain, your customers will thank you for creating the product if it provides solution and help them in their problems.

“You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

So, go ahead and create your quality product and help as many people as possible.

The cheapest and easiest way to promote your product is through joint ventures. Make use of other people’s lists, other people’s relationship with their customers, and other people’s traffic. When you want to promote your product, the easiest way to get out there is to set up 50/50 deals with list owners that sell to your target market (this method is so powerful it’s often in your benefit to even do the deal even if you have to give up 70% or 80% of the money to the list owner).

That’s a basic joint venture. Today I want to share you a few other ways you can profit from other people’s traffic and lists without using the “normal” joint venture (these 7 come from the 21 shared in the Email Marketing Mastery course).

1. Sell Reprint Rights to a product of yours.

License your product to others. For example, I sell a master reprint rights license to my “Create a Life You Love” product at http://www.betterthangoals.com. What’s my motivation? Of course I use this low cost license as an incentive to buy the product. I also want to share this information with as many people as possible.

What’s my other motivation? I want to get my materials in the hands of potential customers. There are links to my other products inside the package…so I get additional backend sales when other people sell the product. By licensing off this product, I may lose out on a little income from it, but I gain all that income on the backend with no advertising expense or risk.

2. Have 3+ Experts Hold a Teleconference Together.

Team up with other experts and hold a free teleconference where each of you shares several of your best tips on the subject. After you share your tips, make a free or low cost offer to get people to respond at your site.

All the experts on the teleconference let their subscribers know about the event. I recently added 300+ free subscribers to my list through a teleconference like this. How could you hold a win-win-win teleconference in your niche?

3. Create an autoresponder message to add to their series.

Many business owners are using some type of email follow-up now. If your potential JV partners aren’t willing to do a full mailing for you, you could suggest they simply add your already written email simply be added at the end of their current follow-up series. No cost for them…only a minute of work to add it in…and you send them their share of the money from now on.

I love long-term consistent money, so I especially like this method even when someone does a mailing for you. Most people concentrate on the one-shot promotions and income. If you get your email added into a high traffic email series, you can create sales every day…not just one time.

If you come accross a business person who doesn’t have an email series, you could offer to give them a basic one that thanks their customers and then makes your backend offers.

4. Write a product review about their product that their affiliates can use.

A key to getting joint ventures is to fill in the gaps and offer value to the people you want to joint venture with. You want a relationship with that well known expert in your field. Offer to do something for them…such as writing an exclusive article just for them or writing a product review about their product. They get valuable content that increases their sales.

What do you get? You get exposure in front of their whole audience. You get the byline and resource box as the writer. In the resource box you offer something from your site (a freebie to get them on your list). You also now have an established relationship with them for your future joint ventures offers.

5. Do direct mail to their customers for your product.

It’s sad. Sending out a snail mail piece to your Internet customers can create dramatic profits, but many people simply don’t do it. They refer to themselves as “Internet businesses” thinking that their whole business is online. That’s why I always use the term “Internet based business” as no business should ONLY promote online. The Internet is a marketing tool, not your entire business.

This of course creates an opportunity for you. Go to a popular business in your niche and offer to mail your offer to their clients. They can handle the list if they like, or they can let you do it all…under the understanding you will not use or keep their list for anything other than the one-time agreed upon mailing. You put together a sales package and mail it out using http://www.usps.com/netpost and split whatever profits occur above the mailing expenses.

6. Do telemarketing for them to their customers.

This is similar to the above strategy. Most online businesses aren’t using the mail. Even fewer are using the phone. You can offer to call all their customers each day, thanking them for their order…and offering them a special discount on your product if they order today. You of course split the profits with the business owner.

The concept here is you’re doing the customer a service. You thanking them and offering them an upgrade price only available now. You’ll find this can often generate 30% to 40% taking the upsell offer.

7. Include your product in someone else’s product package.

I’ve done this several times on both sides of the joint venture. You offer a product you sell as a bonus with someone else’s product. You don’t get any money from the sale, but you do get the exposure and backend sales from the offer. In most cases when I’ve done this, we’ve also shared the profits from the backend sales. I’ve done it both with digital products (an ebook bonus or mp3 audio) and physical products (my book, CD, and DVD).

The customer gets an additional bonus…the product seller gets something to help improve their conversion…the person giving the gift gets exposure and backend sales from an established traffic source. Everybody wins as long as the product being given is valuable and useful (not just a sales pitch for other items).
