I’ve been obsessed with iPhonography lately.

Before I got my iPhone, I had a Nokia phone with a pretty good camera on it. But I never really used it. Since I got my first iPhone back in 2011, I started devoloping a taste for photography.

There are so many good things about iPhonography – to name just a few:

I always have my phone with me

the iPhone camera is fabulous AND

offers amazing special applications.

Last year I participated in the iphoneproject365. This app is designed to help us document our life by taking one photo a day for a year. But it also helped me to keep my eyes open – on my daily walks as well as at home or during my travels.

I enjoyed the challenge so much that I decided to go on for another year even though I had also joined the Instagram community (if you are on Instagram, let’s connect!).

Some of my favorite photo apps:

ProCamera, Snapseed, PicTapGo, Photogene2 and Squaready.

Which are yours?

besessenheiten ….

Last Sunday, my husband and I have been celebrating our 38th anniversary > Memories. Sweet, sweet memories (if you want to see some pics of our wedding).

This year we didn’t plan anything at all. But then we heard of a concert aperitif being held before lunch at a small concert hall at the shore of Lake Lugano – 8 members of the Swiss Italian Orchestra playing Vivaldi and Telemann.

It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning.

After breakfast we headed to town and took a long walk along the water. Then it was time for the concert (and the aperitif ). How relaxing – just sitting there and listening to music! We are both familiar with Vivaldi’s work, but we had never heard of Telemann, a German baroque composer who lived from 1681 – 1767. It’s always nice to discover something new.

In late afternoon we went to the Hesse Museum in Montagnola. From Spring to Fall, readings take place every Sunday at 5pm – readings in German and Italian of a selection of passages from works by Hermann Hesse.

Last Sunday’s theme was Spring – what else? – and Lucilla, a friend of mine, was reading the Italian part.

Right when Lucilla was reading about the cuckoo in the chestnut forest, we heard a cuckoo shouting, again and again. Truly magic moments!

On this festive Sunday, I didn’t cook any special meals, we didn’t eat out – but we have been feeding the soul.

In front of the Museum | Vor dem Museum

It was one of those happy coincidences that while I was searching the Internet for information about a specific project, I came across this quote by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright:

As I kept going with my (new…) research, I came across The Shibumi Seven – 7 Design & Creative Principles Inspired by Zen:

Austerity. Refrain from adding what is not absolutely necessary in the first place.

Simplicity. Eliminate what doesn’t matter to make more room for what does.

Naturalness. Incorporate naturally occurring patterns and rhythms into your design.

Subtlety. Limit information just enough to pique curiosity and leave something to the imagination.

Imperfection, asymmetry. Leave room for others to cocreate with you; provide a platform for open innovation.

Break from routine. An interruptive “break” is an important part of any breakthrough design.

Stillness, tranquility. Doing something isn’t always better than doing nothing.

Have you ever given this some thought?

In textile art, the mediums we work with have changed over time. Once it was fabric only, but new products keep appearing on the market – textiles as well as yarns, paints and tools – and many more.

Experimenting with new techniques and tools is fun. And we keep asking ourselves how we could incorporate them in our work.

And sometimes we forget that there is no need to put every new material, every new technique we master into one artwork .

Who knows me well knows that my motto is keep it simple – in art as well as in life. Life may never be hassle free, but so many chores and tasks can be simplified.

What are your thoughts about simplicity – in art as well as in life?

The Shibumi Seven – 7 Design & Creative Principles Inspired by Zen.

Einfachheit. Entfernen Sie alles, was unwichtig ist und machen Sie Platz für das, was wichtig ist.

Natürlichkeit. Integrieren Sie natürlich vorkommende Muster und Rhythmen in Ihr Design.

Raffiniertheit.
