Customer Service [RANT]

Well, I can say I've just about worked customer service in a grocery store my whole working life. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy the work that I do. However, I can't say that working with pain-in-the-butt customers is what anyone wants to do. I'd love to tell half the customers to shove their requests fair up their clackers but I don't think I should risk having to look for another job. Especially in this economy. My issue is, I guess I just take too much pride in the work that I do. I feel as if I should share the shit I have to put up with daily and I'm sure a lot of you can relate.

I've also come to notice, customers act differently in different places. I'm currently in Southern California. I was warned that some of these people are rude and always in a hurry. The regular's however are fine. I know how you are, what you request and I come to expect nothing less, the rest of you however...

1. Common Courtesy. Everyone seems to lack it these days. I've noticed that the younger generation seem to be more polite than the middle aged twat. Seriously, how hard is it to say 'PLEASE'. I'm tired of all the snotty wankers who walk into the store like I was placed there to serve their ass. Don't come to my counter and say "Gimme a pound of bacon". How bout you smile and say something like "Hi, how are you today? Could I please have a pound of bacon?"

2. Learn to read. For fuck sakes. Don't ask me stupid questions about the product simply because you can't be bothered to read the damn tag. Yes, that salmon is wild, It's written on all the tags if it's wild or farm raised. And for the love of shrimp.. don't say "I want 2 and a half pounds of shrimp" Umm I have over 8 types in my case, which one do you want..? "That one" *smudges fingers all over my clean windows pointing at some shrimp* Oh god, read the friggen tag, what size are you after, my case is far too lowered for me to see what you actually want... ergh.

3. Don't ask for my advice if you your not going to take it. I've worked this job far longer than you think, I'm sure I know what I'm talking about otherwise I would have asked someone else to help you. If you feel that ground beef goes brown because It's old, you obviously don't cook with it enough or come into my department very often. That stuff is ground fresh everyday, then reduced/dumped at the end of the day. It goes brown half way through the day due to oxygen. It doesn't mean it's bad. Tard.

4. When I cook free samples and place them under the heat lamp, I'm actually doing that to boost sales for that product. Not entitle you to a free buffet. Homeless people included. Get a free coffee sample and something I've cooked and bug off. Don't hover waiting for me to put them out then scoff it all down. I don't have all day to cook for everyone that swings past. Seriously, eat before you come to the store, they say you shouldn't shop on an empty stomach. Tosser.

5. Bring it back If you decide you don't want it. I hate you people the most. I don't care if you can't afford it or you find something of better value. If you don't want something don't ditch it in an isle or a freezer. That $20 roast you just had me season and wrap up, now has to be dumped. That's a store loss that comes back on MY department. Asshole.

6. I also hate these people. Your product is leaking. Oh waah. Next time you purchase something frozen and leave it in your car for hours and then realize you forgot it. That's your issue. Don't blame it on us and demand a refund. We now have to dump that product. Fuck-wit.

7. Return a product for a replacement because your unsatisfied. Hey, now I can accept that. Unless your some jerk who thinks they know-it-all. Yeah, that roast you bought this morning was cut fresh, it smells fine. Oh I see you've already started to trim and cut it up, but you don't like the way it smells. Erm, it's fresh. I know. I work 40 hours a week around this stuff. I know how it should and should not smell. Don't tell me off. I don't give a shit if you've been cooking our meat for 40 odd years. Just admit I caught you out on a lie and I'll get you a new one. I'm sorry your husband probably sent you back to the store cause the roast was too fatty. Not my fault that if you don't do it he's probably going to beat you. Don't take that crap out on me. This is my job. I'll have to dump that. Bitch.

8. I really like that steak. You know, the one right up the front of the case. Holy shit. One moment while I put my gloves on and walk out to the front of my case so I can actually reach that for you. This one is common, but sometimes I screw with people and put the old stuff up the front. Suckers.

9. Why did you come to the meat department to ask me what wine goes best with making sangria? Do I look like a bartender? Twat.

10. It's bad enough that you've dowsed yourself in cheap perfume designed to make people cry and choke on the air that they breathe, but did you also realize that I can still smell that alcohol your trying to cover. I'm stocking the shelf, back the fuck off when your talking to me. Piss-head.

11. Last but not least. No, I don't speak Spanish. I'm Australian. I spreken zee Koala. Don't yell at me for not knowing your language. I can say Hi, Thank you, one moment, and STOP. I understand you pointing at a product and asking for Uno libre, (I think that's how it's spelled) Don't you think that's enough? I'm not going to go out of my way to learn a language. That's what school was for. I was taught German, French, Japanese and Indonesian. I guess Australia didn't think much of Spanish. My bad. I really thought I was trying...

LAST DAY OF THE YEAR BITCHES.

Just wanted to say, how awesome this year has been. Well, not including work. But the rest was great!

I moved to Southern California with my gorgeous husband. Shared our first wedding anniversary in December and started (over and over again) planning our long term goals. Which still includes the unknown decision of whether or not we plan to return to Australia... Who knows whats really on the cards. I'm not bothering with new year resolutions but I don't plan on winging shit either.

I guess, I'll take the crap as it's flung and hope to god I can fling shit back. /women unite.
Damn straight. However, in all seriousness we'll be taking everything one step at a time. If I don't get too lazy I might just keep ya'll updated. Stiff shit if I don't. Perhaps you should send me a message through FB.

It's passed, finally. Christmas, is that magical time of the year which manages to screw a lot of us over. No matter the age, there's always complaints, "I didn't get what I wanted" or the "I'm glad the kids are happy, but you do realize Darling, we're broke". This year, wasn't that bad. Apart from having to catch a flight 10am Christmas morning (Which included one of the roughest landings I've ever experienced, seeing as I've done a better job in a Cessna on a windy day...) was a lame way to start the day, in a hotel, no tree, no gifts, no awesome breakfast. No wait.. The donut shop next door was open. Ham and cheese croissant, FTW. By 8am we were at the airport and by 9am I had downed a smoke or four and headed to the nearest pub. Stella, thank you. The only woman for me. On the plane, I was offered free drinks by two charming men seated next to me, so add to that two scotch and dry's. It's not even 12 yet.

So, no. My Christmas day started off just fine. Liquid courage to meet the in-laws after a year and a plane flight run by stand up comedians. Interesting morning. However, my issue really wasn't with Christmas day. It was one of my gifts. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not being ungrateful at all. The gift was awesome. It's just my instability to use it. So what did I get. *drum roll* SWTOR.

STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC - MMO (Online game, for those who aren't acquainted with gaming lingo)... Oh wait, never mind. I was about to go into a heated discussion about how bullshit it was that the servers were all down for maintenance. I'm in.

Now, serious stuff. Everyone recently seen that post on Buzzfeed about those darn kids bitching about how shit their Christmas was... 'Waa I got a black Ipad instead of the white one, fuck my parents..' or ' I hate my dad, no fucking car.' or 'where was my new Iphone?' or 'I wanted an Ipad, WTF is this Kindle shit?'

Wow. What happened to new outfits and money towards you actually saving up your own bloody money to buy some over-priced gadget that will be out of style in the next 3 freaking months? What happened to being fucking grateful. I never thought I'd be old enough to say (and really mean it) 'God damn you lazy kids, you have it so easy. How bout next year you get the choice of a bullet or a Ugo? Yeah, shoot yourself you dramatic fucking spoiled twat or U go get a Job and U go get a car..'

Wow! It's literally been forever. I've noticed that in my absence, other blogs, for some reason, make me feel better about not updating my own blog, because my delusional mind has convinced itself that it is MY blog, because every time I read it I'm like, "HAHA Oh Ava, you've really done it this time... that was hilarious!!" And then I have to remind myself that unfortunately, I don't write this blog. No, no Ava. Your blog is way over there. *points to September* (Totally Stolen from another blog... But it was too true to my own)

However, I'm now officially attempting to get back into the swing of things. Apart from working and trying overly hard to keep the house semi neat... semi, being the fact that I'm lucky if I manage to do a thorough clean up every 1-2 months, I've pursued a rather larger idea by selling my own crafty items over the net. I feel so techie. Now, I truly wish I had a "special" talent and the knowledge to essentially sell myself over the web.... Without taking pictures of myself straddled on the couch armchair like some prostitute from down under of course. (Cause that would be odd and just end up circling the globe for people to laugh at)

Another new item of interest is our Minecraft server upgrade! The new parts started arriving today, so hopefully the Hubby will put together a brand new super PC to host the server.. One with a new FX AMD 6-core processor I might add. Mmmm turbo core technology....

We've also created a new server competition to win My Little Pony coloring books and crayons! Since most of our new registers are Bronies... Oh and we also have the latest Humble Bundle up for grabs. All the rules and info are posted on the forums.

We've also recently allowed people to log onto the server without being whitelisted. Catch is, your unable to do anything, no building no nothing. This just allows new users to view the current map and to choose whether or not they would like to join our community.

Our Noobcraft community has started to evolve over the past few months, allowing Terraria users to join and we've also included our new guild for Star Wars Old Republic. (now accepting applications) This way we can keep the community forums all rolled into one. The forums themselves have expanded and now feature different sections for each of the games.

Right, well I've been a rather lazy bitch when it comes to blogging, ergh, I knew the novelty would wear off once I started working. But alas, I'll continue to strike stupidity and nothingness into everyone's heart.

Anywho, whats left to report on. One day left in May. /sigh. Another damn month. I have this fear that I'll wake up one morning with kids and crows feet or something. Not that I should be worried, that ain't far off when you think about it... Oh shock horror.

Oh gee, look at that, I was magically pulled away from my pc and now it's the 31st. Small things eh?

Anywho, turns out I've been given a new opportunity at work... New department and more hours. Pretty good considering I thought I'd have to pick up a second job. Now, In America they say being put into a new department is essentially a promotion. Umm ok so wheres my pay raise? Ohh if I squint hard enough.. Shit! Is that a WHOLE 15c? Mate, watch out, we're livin' big this year. /sigh.
(Still not sure on my exact raise amount, good chance it'll be 5-10c, but I can dream big right?)

I managed to learn a valuable lesson the other day. I was blowing up balloons for a customer, when I, in some retarded bubbly Aussie accent, asked the customer "Hey, what do you have planned, big party.. wedding?" to which the customer replied, "uh, no my mother died yesterday and we're releasing balloons on the beach as a farewell..." -commence /faceplam- Moral of the story, don't be happy when blowing up white balloons. Goddamn I felt like an ass.

AND SUDDENLY - Something that reminded me of an Ex of mine, lols.

Well, I'm sure I'm overdue for a new post.. Where to start.. Hmmm... Well, I've finally started working. Pretty similar to my last job actually. I guess I'm just glad to get out of this apartment.

I've found it rather interesting, being Australian working in America. I swear I'm just about over telling everyone my life story. Although that's not as half bad as having people ask me to repeat things I've said. I mean, I speak English, I didn't think my accent was that bloody hard to understand. I've tried my darnedest to cut out all of my slang and caught myself mimicking an American accent. My other issue is learning to speak/understand Spanish, every second person speaks it here. I'm sure I'll pick things up eventually.

I think my most embarrassing moment so far was having a manager ask me to get what I thought sounded something like "Turkey Gold". I paused for a moment with one of those 'What the fuuuu' looks on my face and thought to myself, 'Shit, is that something like the Golden Goose.. so maybe it's a type of meat.. no wait, what?'

Turns out she had actually said 'Turkish Gold', not that it would have made a difference. I still didn't have a bloody clue what she was on about. My face slightly blushed when she handed me a packet of Camels cigarettes labeled Turkish Gold.

I mean seriously, how the fuck was I meant to know what it was?! Perhaps she knew that I smoked.. not that a smoker knows every brand of smokes.. But c'mon, damn I felt like a dumb ass.

Apart from needing to learn all the different brands of EVERYTHING in an entire store, I think I'll do just fine.. I think.

TXT - THE GR8 DB8 (lesson on Shorthand)

As part of a request I have decided to do a post on the use of Shorthand or as the ‘Y’ generation sees it, txt speak, SMS language or Textese. (also known as txtese, chatspeak, txt, txtspk, txtk, txto, texting language, txt lingo, or txt talk)

There has always been a major debate on whether or not abbreviations should be used and if the use of it causes an inability to spell. Truth is, it’s not all as bad as the older generations perceive it to be. I’ll state a few of the obvious facts below;

Typically, less than 10% of the words are abbreviated in text messages.
Abbreviating is not a new language; instead, it has been present for many decades.
Children and adults both use SMS language, the latter being more likely to do so.
Students do not habitually use abbreviations in their homework or examinations.
Sending text messages is not a cause of bad spelling because people need to know how to spell before they can send a text message.
Sending text messages improves people's literacy, as it provides more opportunity for people to engage with the language through reading and writing.
Abbreviations have been seen to date back as far as the 1800’s.

Shorthand is actually rather easy to read if you already know how to spell. The trick is learning to understand the use of the word in a particular sentence.

For example;

“omg, cnt tlk, PAW, ttyl. Lol <3 u.”

Translates to;

“Oh my god, can’t talk, parents are watching, talk to you later. *Laughing out loud*, love (heart) you.”

After a bit of research on this topic I’ve found a few decent sites to assist in the understanding of Shorthand. (Links are below)

LOL – Laugh out loud	TTYL – Talk to you later

LMAO – Laughing my ass off	BCUZ - Because
ORLY? – Oh really?	WT? – What?
SRS? – Serious?	BTW – By the way

OK, so many of you "bright sparks" will have noticed my recent changes to my page! IKR omg, wow! I'm glad I've finally added a bit of color to the banner, although I've noticed since I've stopped drinking, the name of this blog should be changed to 'Married with Coffee and Bagels'. Cause It's cool to be sober. If your like 14.../sigh

Not that I've got much else to update, apart from half of my readers know that I've recently burnt myself in the kitchen, using boiling water of course. So to cheer myself up I'm reading blogs that make me happy =D

Simply Pathetic - Parenting is Harsh.

There's nothing worse than having someone post foul comments about another person on Facebook. However I've found it rather entertaining to see others become frustrated after having a go at an individual. The best method I've come to use is the non swearing approach, using proper spelling and grammar.

My recent comment ''attack'' was towards a young father. A comment made specifically for him. According to the status updates, he had posted some apparent upsetting news to his Facebook claiming that he had walked in on his ex with some other bloke in bed with her. Now, he and his ex have a gorgeous looking son together but the relationship is, well, you see where this is going.

This is how I responded to his post and the ex decided to have her input. It makes me 'lol'.

Shortly after, another friend attempted to share their input. Making abso-fuckin-lutely no sense.

In the end, you have to bow out and tie the end off with the truth.

Some kids aren't old enough to be having kids. It's hard being a single mother/father. I understand. And with a lot of people having "surprise" babies, It's unsettling to see them in such a struggle, not only with money but relationships as well.

A lot of us have grown up on some form of government assistance. I don't want to be going through that to ensure my child is fed/clothed/homed.

I personally, am glad that I'm married and will be waiting a few years, before I bring a child into this world. My opinion on parenting, ensure the child has a proper upbringing with an unbroken family. That requires a home (preferably owned) and stable well-earning careers.

Well, that Interview didn't go the way I'd planned. Turns out I missed a call just before I managed to get there. Now, lets remember, I don't have a car and I've been rather neglectful when it comes to my bike. So, I'm peddling my little heart out and get there in 10 minutes flat. Only to check my phone for the time to find that I had missed a call. So, naturally, I call the person back.

Me: "Hi, I just missed a call from this number?"
Store: "Oh yeah, Sorry to inform you, but your interview has been canceled for today."
Me: "Ahuh...." -.-
Store: " We'll, we were hoping to inform you before you made it all the way out here."
Me: " Alright, well I'm here, I just rode in.." -panting like a fat kid chasing someone with cake-
Store: "Well unfortunately I have to be somewhere else very soon but I'll be in contact with you next week."
Me: " Great. I guess I'll talk to you then >_>"

I mean c'mon, she had two days prior to tell me this! Whats with the massive lack of communication?
So while I wait for your call Ma'am, I'll continue to play Minecraft. Here, I knew I built this for some reason...

It's that time of year again...

In through the lips and onto the hips. It's a bit like Christmas or some other holiday, that allows us to eat copious amounts of shit food till we finally roll over into a food-coma. Actually Easter and Christmas, hmm not that I'm religious as such, but it has just struck me that the birth and re-birth of "Jesus" is a day for feasting. That bastards just out to make us fat, not once but twice a year! How are we expected to recover from such things?!

OK, I think that was it for my spiritual insight to Easter. I apologize If that was offensive to anyone. Still trying to cover a range of audiences. Blogging isn't always easy.

In other news, I have a job interview lined up =D Yay for meee. Right before a holiday. Quality. Here's hoping I don't go straight into full-time work. >_> I have a ham to cook for Bunny day... and I wish to enter into a food-coma after finishing my bottle of wine.

Oh well, If there is a higher being (please let it be cool sexy Vulcan-like aliens, probing me in my sleep) They will give me my Bunny Day.

Motivational Issues

Pssh, I wish. One day I will invent the 'motivational' pill. I don't think since I left my last job, that there has been a day where I felt truly motivated and determined to do something successful. Unless you class spending 30 minutes with a vacuum on full blast, slowly sucking at every square inch of the couch to rid of the damn cat hair, successful?

So, whats the definition of motivation anyway? To be excited to get up each day and face the world with a giant smile and say "Fuck yeah, this is AWESOME, living and being alive is GREAT!!!!1"

I think not. The majority of my mornings/afternoons cause me to walk around like a ninety year old bitch, mumbling to myself about things I could or should do..

Although the idea of a magic pill that boosts this so-called motivation kinda already exists - I'm not talking about speed, cause being high is bad for you - My form of motivation used to dwell in the bottom of a cup. It's called coffee. The motivational juice. Or so I thought. That stuff just doesn't seem to work the way it used to when I was 14.

Everyone suggests I eat better and do more exercise. Well I rebel against your wishes! Give me magic! And I want it in my Alice in Wonderland mug. Ktanx.

I think it's fair to say that after several 6hour car trips, pointless interviews and waiting months for a piece of paper, I think I finally have it. Assuming it's all approved.

Green Cards, a lot harder to come by than just your average visa. Here's hoping I'm getting mine sent to me within the month. So, while I wait my next step is job hunting and damn I'm way out of practice on this one. Not to mention, America, you have the most REEEEE-diculous system for applying to jobs.

After several hours of just filling in the info about yourself, dating fucking 10 years* back or so, you hit another wall. Pages upon pages of pointless questions to do with fuck all. Well actually, if 1/3 of the population had half a brain and had some sense of self initiative, the applications probably wouldn't ask the same bloody question 20 times in a row.

Bugger it, I don't need to work out or clean the house today. I just filled out one application to a shitty nothing store, that will probably hire some loser dickhead that doesn't have a clue how to relate to customers but happens to have half a degree in bullshittery... Several wasted hours later - I'm hittin' the sheets. Why do we bother seriously. Australia, you've got one thing good going for you at the moment, lots of jobs with applications that take 20mins to fill out, GOD I miss you.

* Note - in the past 20 odd years I've actually moved over 25 times.. So dating back 10 years of housing and jobs is utter BS. For me anyway..
