Last night I co-hosted a Stella & Dot jewelry trunk show party with my friend at her lovely home, and I had to share some pics! I did all the flower arrangements, spray painted the dollar store vases and mirror frame for the buffet menu, and we punched circles of plain and glitter cardstock to scatter on the buffet. For the invitation, I used a free downloadable chevron stripe invitation from the Wedding Chicks. I'm hosting an online trunk show for those of you that couldn't make it to my party but who might want to stock up on some super cute (and reasonably priced) costume jewelry for summer!

Inspiration Board: Lemony Aqua

I've long adored this cheery color combination of lemon yellow and a cool aqua. The yellow is warm and sunshiny, while the aqua is cool and crisp. When put together they just pop, don't you agree? A perfect palette for a late spring or summer wedding. Buying bags of lemons to use as place cards and in centerpieces is an easy and inexpensive way to add color, and ribbons and paper poms hung as a backdrop for a dessert table or photobooth is a fun DIY project. And that cake! Keeping the outside a creamy white makes the striped yellow and blue cake layers inside a sweet surprise for your guests.

Inspiration Board: Spring Fern

Being from the Northwest, the fern holds a special place in my heart. When I saw the 'Leaf Specimen' wedding invitation by fellow Oregonian and invitation designer Krista Messer for Minted, I knew I loved it and that I simply had to put together an inspiration board around it. I love the watercolor airiness of the invitation, and the color palette jumped out at me - a range of greens, ambers and peach with a touch of a café au lait brown. The colors are so spring and fresh, and ferns make a lovely appearance not just the invitations but on tabletops, placesetttings, and the hand painted cookie favors, as well as subtly in the bouquet and on the cake. Touches of peach, amber, and café au lait on the tabletop runner, the bride's sash, on the cake, in the bouquet, and in the flower arrangements in amber glass bottles touches of color without going overboard, and keep the thread of a natural feeling running throughout the event.

What I've Been Up To...

Sorry for the sparse postings over the past year (eeek!), I'm in my last year of school for my degree in journalism, and I also do event planning and design, so things (like my blog) unfortunately fall through the cracks. But I wanted to share something that I've been working on for school that is tied to my professional life. I had to put together a four page magazine spread, my first ever, and I got to use pictures from a wedding that I did this past summer! I'm pretty pleased with the final result, and I thought I'd use this as a teaser while I put together a proper post on their wedding.

DIY Valentine's Truffles

A sweet Valentine's idea - stay in and make some decadent DIY truffles with your mate. So romantic (and decadent!) This is also be a fun party idea: have a mini 'make your own truffle' buffet. Serve with brandy, rum, red wine or whisky for the gentlemen.

Amazing DIY Chocolate Truffles from Jamie Oliver

makes about 50 teaspoon-sized truffles

• 1 1/4 cups double cream
• a knob of unsalted butter
• finely grated zest from 1 clementine
• 10 ounces good-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), broken into small pieces
• a pinch sea salt
• a splash of brandy
• a handful of mixed nuts (Brazil nuts, toasted almonds and hazelnuts)
• 3 tablespoons Dutch process cocoa powder, to serve
• 1 pack biscotti, to serve
• 1 bottle of Vin Santo, to serve

Put the cream in a pan over a medium heat and let it heat up. You don’t want it boiling, just hot. As soon as tiny bubbles start to appear, add the knob of butter and the clementine zest. Once the butter has melted, pour this hot mixture over the chocolate pieces, whisking as you go, so the chocolate melts nice and slowly. If the mixture splits slightly, don’t worry, you can bring it right by adding a splash of boiling water.

Add a pinch of salt to the mixture; the smallest pinch of salt actually makes chocolate taste even chocolatier! Stir in a splash of brandy.

Once completely melted and smooth, pour your melted chocolate mixture into a nice little serving dish or bowl. Pop this in the fridge for about 2 hours to set. You can always do this a few days before you need it if you want. About 30 minutes before you’re ready to make your truffles, pull the bowl out of the fridge and let the chocolate warm up to room temperature.

Put your mixed nuts into a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to bash them up quite finely. Get some little saucers or bowls and put the nuts in one and your cocoa powder in the other. Put a teacup filled with boiled water on the tray and pop a few teaspoons in there for scooping the chocolate. Get everyone around the table to spoon their own truffles out of the serving dish and roll them in cocoa powder, crushed nuts or anything else you fancy. Or, you can let them smear their truffles over a biscotti like some posh Nutella! Serve with a few glasses of your chilled Vin Santo.

While browsing through the new Spring arrivals at BHLDN, one of my favorite eye candy haunts, I came across some lovely decor and shoe gems that inspired me to put together a new board (I know, I know finally!!) Hope you like it!

Winter weddings are highly underrated in my opinion. They're cheaper to have, monochromatic color scheme look incredible, and nothing is more romantic than cuddling near a fire to keep warm on your honeymoon. The palette is ivory with just a dash of a blush-y peach, gold and slate which give the wedding a warm yet wintery feel perfect for a pre-Valentine's wedding. Can we talk about how gorgeous the tulle shoes and the lace chuppah canopy are? And that cake! It is a total showstopper and looks even sweeter when served on ivory and gold pierced heart plates. The combined effect is so romantic!

I love this time of year when it is cold outside and that beautiful blue winter light reflects off the snow and comes through the window, then it gets dark early and its time for lovely candles. This board has a Scandinavian feel to it, with the wreath braid hairdo, the rustic branches, plenty of candles and touches of gold. Lovely inspiration for a winter wedding!

A Book and Woodland Themed Baby Shower

I've been waiting to share this beyond adorable baby shower that my friend Cambria Evans of J.Bartyn Design + Event Concepts put together for her sister-in-law, Koseli. While we're mostly about weddings here at Marry You Me, we also love sweet events of all types and you know what they say... First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby! Cambria did an amazing job with this shower, combining the mom-to-be's career and passion (working in the publishing industry and being a writer herself) with a nod to her Nordic heritage and who else but Peter Rabbit. As Cambria puts it, it was "a magical book-themed shower, inspired by Koseli's love of Norwegian forests and good grammar." I often get emails from readers looking for help throwing showers, and there are so many great ideas here - so enjoy!

I'm Thankful For...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones. I know I have much to be thankful for, and one of them is my faithful readers who still look at my blog even though I've been on an extended hiatus. Life got in the way of my doing my blog in the way I've really wanted to, but honestly it felt like a very important part of me was missing these past few months. My blog is one of my great loves, and I want to rekindle my relationship with it, and with you dear readers and friends. Now that my school term is winding down, I can refocus after next week and really work on putting together great content for you all in the new year. New year, new fresh start right? Thanks again for all your support and words of encouragement, its meant a lot and has definitely reinspired me to get back to blogging.

Our Love Session with This Modern Romance - Help Heal Isaac

Yesterday I read a post from photographer Stephanie Williams of This Modern Romance that really affected me personally. Her talented husband and photography partner, Isaac, has been battling with a sudden brain tumor and is recovering from a stroke caused by the tumor that has left much of his left side paralyzed.

I had long admired Stephanie and Isaac's work, and two years ago for our first anniversary Brandon and I were lucky enough to be able to have a day-after style anniversary session with them in Carmel, California where we were married. This charming, talented, funny and down-to-earth duo made us feel at ease and captured some of the loveliest pictures of us I've ever seen. We had such a great time hanging out with them during our session, and would have loved to have gone out for a drink and some dinner after our session with them, but alas they had to continue on down the coast to their home in Southern California. We've always talked of how much fun we had and how great they were to be with.

After seeing Stephanie's post yesterday, I wanted to help this amazing couple in any way I could. They have given Brandon and I (and all of their clients, or those who enjoy looking at beautiful work) an incredible gift of wonderful memories captured perfectly in some of the prettiest pictures ever. Isaac's rehabilitation and medical bills will be expensive, and since they work as a team Stephanie will be soldiering on with work alone. If you can help out in any way (no amount is too small!) - I know Stephanie and Isaac would appreciate it more than words can say.

Vintage Travel Shoot from Chic Design Studios

When Kimberly Watt of Chic Design Studios in Salt Lake City sent this amazing shoot my way, I was so excited. If you know me or have followed my blog for a while, you know that I love me a vintage inspired road trip (see exhibits A and B). This shoot perfectly evokes a vintage-road trip travel theme with a modern splash of color from the lovely green and yellow color scheme, which, being a University of Oregon Duck, I naturally love! Vintage gas stations, country fields, retro dessert buffet, a bright ruffled cake and a splash of vintage Americana make this shoot so awesomely awesome. Scroll on to get lost in this lovely bit of retro road trip bliss...

From Kimberly Watt of Chic Design Studios: "With the age of airplanes and fast travel, road trips are something of the past. We decided to make this our theme - thus the road maps, globe, and travel details. I chose the colors for the shoot because as much as I love soft pinks, peach, and cream, I was ready for something else! The colors yellow, green, white, and black were used to show brides they can achieve that great vintage feel with any color.

The fashion inspiration from this shoot came from the dress. My mother and I found the dress while searching through an old trunk of my grandmothers. We later found out that the dress belonged to my Aunt. I knew then that I wanted to see the dress worn by someone!

The dessert table featured a fantastic ruffle cake along with donut kabobs, cupcakes and old soda pop bottles displayed in a white tin to keep cool. The curly willow backdrop was the perfect accent to the table. The backdrop featured dancing ribbon and a vintage chandelier. The favor was a mason jar filled with trail mix and stamped with a “Thank You” tag. The flowers used in the shoot where orchids, china mum, roses, billy balls, and gerbera daisies. I chose this combination to show that you can mix the more modern orchids with the more rustic daisies and mums.

By adding these vintage details I hope guests will feel a moment of nostalgia and take a moment to remember past memories."

I'm sharing my latest inspiration board today, which I recently guest posted for my friend Melissa of The Loveliest Day. I adore the idea of a summer wedding around a berry theme, and seeing how we are in blackberry season here in Oregon, I felt super inspired to do a blackberry farm inspired board for a wedding. Berries not only provide great desserts for weddings, but also are amazing for color palette and floral inspiration. For a berry inspired wedding, these mason jar printables from Paper Crave via Cottage Industrialist are simply divine (these would also be great for barbeques, kitchen showers, baby showers, etc!) I love the idea of using unripe raspberries as boutonnieres, in bouquets and centerpieces. Use fresh berries in signature drinks like blackberry gin fizz or berry lemonade, in cardboard berry baskets as favors, in desserts like mini chocolate blackberry cupcakes, berry pies or for decorating cakes. A rustic farm setting at sunset makes for a perfect venue for this berry fete.

Vintage Summer Picnic

Because I don't just love weddings but also entertaining in general, I wanted to share this sweet summer picnic that reader Lisa sent my way! She put together a cute vintage inspired summer picnic in the park with a classic picnic menu including sandwiches, fried chicken and macaroni salad.

From Lisa: "I used plenty of little lanterns, old soda crates, fresh flowers, and my mom's vintage tablecloth to set the table."

"Jars are an excellent way to hold picnic food! They transport easily and look much prettier than tupperware. It's a simple way to add beauty to the table and still keep it functional."

"Wrapping each sandwich individually in parchment paper

gives it that extra special restaurant style touch!"

Wrapping plastic cutlery in cute patterned napkins and trying them with twine is such an inexpensive and fun way to bring some cuteness to utilitarian items.
