VINCENT – HIS QUEST TO LOVE AND BE LOVED, a multimedia musical, tells of a complex man with a ruthless drive to create and a deep-seated desire to love and be loved. 

Vincent has enjoyed sold out seasons in all major centres in SA and most recently experienced a sold-out West End debut performance in London in August 2025.

Since the show’s first performance in 2022, Daniel has been nominated as a Fleur du Cap finalist, the show received SIX Naledi Theatre Awards nominations, winning three. Vincent also bears a Bronze Standard Bank Ovation Award from the National Arts Festival and played to 5-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023.  A KANNA Award win for Best Musical Production at KKKNK in 2025 has been the most recent award the musical has achieved.

Johannesburg-born artist Dynastee King is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most promising voices in South Africa’s new generation of urban music creators.

Born Siphesihle Trinity Ngoma, Dynastee King has spent the past few years refining a distinctive sound that effortlessly blends Hip-Hop, Afro R&B, Afrobeats and melodic storytelling.

 Emerging onto the scene in 2022, the independent artist is now entering a bold new chapter of his career following his successful rebrand and the release of his standout single, “Pretty Barbie.”

He credits Black Coffee in particular for demonstrating that African sounds can dominate the world’s biggest stages while remaining true to their roots.

Tonicsoundz’s ambitions are equally bold. His bucket list includes performing at major international festivals such as AfrikaBurn, Coachella and Tomorrowland, before eventually launching a flagship festival of his own.

Yet despite his growing success, he remains firmly connected to his community.

 He currently supports youth football and cycling initiatives in QwaQwa and hopes one day to create greater opportunities for emerging artists from the region.

Steve Louw’s latest release stands as further proof that great South African music continues to resonate far beyond our borders. 

From the United Kingdom and Europe to the United States and South Africa, critics are celebrating the album’s songwriting, musicianship, production, and emotional depth. 

The growing international response once again highlights the enduring global appeal of South African rock music and reinforces Louw’s standing as one of the country’s most respected songwriters and guitarists.

Produced by renowned producer Kevin Shirley and recorded in Nashville with an elite group of musicians, Traces of the Flood continues a remarkable creative run that includes Headlight Dreams (2021), Thunder and Rain (2022), and Between Time (2024).

 Critics are already describing the new release as a landmark achievement within Louw’s extensive catalogue.

The praise has been widespread and emphatic.

UK publication Rock The Joint Magazine described the album as “thoughtful, well-produced and full of character,” concluding that it is “best experienced when the roads are quiet and the night is stretching out ahead.” The review praised the record’s storytelling quality and its ability to draw listeners into its cinematic world.

US-based Ink19 highlighted the album’s “superb songwriting” and praised the performances throughout, noting that the Nashville musicians “know exactly when to push and when to let the song speak.” The publication described Traces of the Flood as a collection of songs that feel earned through experience, craftsmanship, and emotional honesty.

Other major reviews have been equally enthusiastic.

Classic Rock Magazine awarded the album 8/10, describing it as one of Louw’s finest releases to date. Blues Matters praised Louw as a “first-class songwriter who writes with depth and emotion,” while Tinnitist called it “one of the strongest records of his long career.” Americana Highways simply summed up its verdict with: “Did I say it’s superb? Yes, it is.”

Closer to home, The South African Rock Encyclopedia singled out the driving single “Time To Move” as “three and a half minutes of pure rock ’n’ roll jubilation,” while legendary drummer Bev Bevan of The Move and Electric Light Orchestra described it in the Sunday Mercury as “one of my favourite albums of the year so far.”

The album also continues Louw’s long-standing collaboration with Kevin Shirley, a musical partnership that stretches back decades.

 Recorded at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio, the project features an outstanding cast of musicians including Bob Britt, Doug Lancio, Greg Morrow, Alison Prestwood and Kevin McKendree.

Oration by the Grand Patron of National Orders President Cyril Ramaphosa at the presentation of the National Orders

Members of the Advisory Council on National Orders,
Members of the diplomatic corps,
Recipients of the National Orders and their families and friends who are with us here today,
Distinguished Guests,
Fellow South Africans, 

We have gathered here this morning to honour those among us who, in many diverse ways, have shaped the country that we call home.

This occasion calls to mind the words of the American poet William Ralph Emerson in his work titled: ‘A Nation’s Strength’. 

He writes that a nation’s strength is not found in fortune, pride or even the sword: 

“Not gold, but only men [and, we add, women]
Can make a people great and strong;
Men [and women] who for truth and honour’s sake
Stand fast and suffer long. 

“Brave men [and women] 
Who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly, 
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.” 

Today we honour men and women who have lifted to the sky our greatest aspiration: to build a democratic South Africa founded on equality, justice and dignity for all.  

It is an aspiration carried by our forebears long before democratic South Africa was born.  

When the first democratic Constitution of South Africa was signed into law 30 years ago, this aspiration became the cornerstone of an edifice that had been built by generations of patriots. 

Like those patriots, the people that we honour today have helped to give life to the dream of a free and just South Africa.  

Their activism has extended to music, politics, sports, literature, culture, medicine, science, education and the advancement of human rights.

In their many fields of endeavour, they have made an invaluable contribution to our national life. 

By honouring them today, we are recognising that the pillars of our democratic order are deep, firm and unshakeable because of the many great South Africans who built them. 

The Order of Ikhamanga is awarded to South Africans who have excelled in the fields of the arts, culture, literature, music, journalism and sport.  

The fact that so many of the recipients of National Orders this year are musicians, filmmakers, authors, playwrights and athletes reflects the enduring ability of sports, arts and culture to capture the hopes and triumphs of a nation.

It is a testimony also to the diversity and richness of the South African experience and the many ways in which the life of our nation is interpreted and expressed.

The Order of Mapungubwe recognises South Africans who have attained excellence and exceptional achievement for the benefit of the country and beyond. 

The achievements of all our recipients this year speak to our country’s growing international standing as a global centre of scientific and medical best practice.

Their achievements remind us that scientific endeavour is inseparable from the pursuit of human progress and well-being.

We seek knowledge not for its own sake, but to protect lives, to improve health and to build a better life for all.

The Order of the Baobab recognises South Africans who have played a formative role in business and the economy, in science, medicine and technological innovation, and in community service.  

This year’s recipients have made their mark across a range of fields that were the building blocks for the society we have today. 

The Order of Luthuli recognises dedication to a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa.

It recognises the men and women whose activism lit the path to our freedom and to those who continue to keep that flame burning. 

This National Order is one we particularly cherish, for we are determined to honour our veterans and stalwarts while they still walk among us. 

Though the passage of time has robbed us of many of the brave men and women who were at the forefront of the struggle for liberation, we celebrate those who are still here: to tell their stories and to impart a living legacy to the next generation.

I would like to acknowledge the families present here today and thank them on behalf of all South Africans for lending us these great sons and daughters of the soil.

By bestowing this award, we affirm once more that the story of our freedom should not pass into distant legend but should continue to be carried by successive generations into the future. 

The Order of the Companions of OR Tambo recognises eminent foreign nationals for friendship shown to South Africa.

We did not win our freedom alone. 

We were carried by a great tide of human solidarity that stretched across our continent and the globe. 

We owe a great debt to the many leaders, peoples and nations who supported us.

By honouring them with National Orders we reaffirm our enduring commitment to peace and friendship with all nations, based on our shared values of equality and dignity.

We welcome our recipients of the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo who are with us today and the families of those who have passed away.

On the day that the Constitution was adopted 30 years ago, I said that it is the mirror of South African society, reflecting both the history from which we have emerged, and the values of human dignity, equality and freedom we now cherish. 

By equal measure, those men and women who are today are being bestowed with the highest accolade this country can give, are also a mirror of South African society.  

Their life works and their achievements reflect those same values we hold dear and that continue to guide us along our journey as a people. 

Just as our constitution was written from the contributions of millions of South Africans, it is the people of South Africa who decide who is bestowed with a National Order.  

In a land of innumerable heroes and heroines, the South African people have decided that it is these men and women they will lift to the sky. 

This is the greatest honour.  

Under the powers vested in me by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996), I now confer the Order of Ikhamanga, the Order of the Baobab, the Order of Luthuli, the Order of Mapungubwe and the Order of the Companions of O.R. Tambo.

The recipients shall henceforth be honoured as esteemed Members of the Orders.

The people of South Africa salute them all.

The Presidency announced that Dr Jones is being recognised for his “contribution to musical arts and cinema through his composition of highly acclaimed scores for internationally successful films, and for opening his home in London as a place of refuge for many comrades of the liberation movement.”

Born in Cape Town, Dr Jones has enjoyed one of the most distinguished international careers ever achieved by a South African composer. After leaving South Africa during apartheid, he studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music before becoming one of Hollywood and Europe’s leading film composers. 

His body of work includes acclaimed scores for films such as The Last of the Mohicans, In the Name of the Father, Notting Hill, Mississippi Burning and Labyrinth.

Over several decades, his music has helped shape some of cinema’s most memorable moments while flying the South African flag on the global stage.

The National Orders are South Africa’s highest honours, awarded to citizens and distinguished foreign nationals who have made exceptional contributions in fields including arts, science, sport, democracy and public service.

Her career spans music distribution, publishing, licensing, supervision, and artist development, making her one of the key behind-the-scenes forces shaping the modern African music industry.

Before joining The Orchard, Mpumi led the creative department at Sheer Publishing, specialising in music clearances for film, television, and advertising. 

Her impressive portfolio as a music supervisor includes major productions such as Blood & Water, Reyka, Rhythm City, iNumber Number, Beyond the River, and the popular How To Ruin and Yoh franchises.

From her early career beginnings in Los Angeles with Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) to her influential role at legendary independent label Ghetto Ruff, Mpumi has built a reputation as a passionate advocate for African music and creators.

On 12 May 2026, legendary British synth-pop pioneers The Human League will bring their iconic sound to the Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, delivering a night of pure 80s nostalgia – complete with the anthems that defined a generation.

Formed in Sheffield in 1977, The Human League became one of the most influential electronic bands of all time, shaping the sound of modern pop music. “Across The River” is a slow-burning, emotionally resonant track that blends Louw’s signature storytelling with stripped-back instrumentation and  atmospheric depth. The song explores themes of longing, separation, and  transcendence, anchored by imagery that is both intimate and expansive.  With its recurring motif of crossing over, physical, emotional, and perhaps  even spiritual, the single captures a sense of inevitability and enduring  connection. 

Driven by poetic lyricism, the track unfolds like a quiet reckoning. Lines such  as “These four walls all I see / And I think of you” and “We’ll meet across the  riverside” suggest both confinement and hope, while the refrain “I’ll be with you, my love” lingers as a promise that transcends circumstance. The  narrative is deeply personal yet universally accessible, allowing listeners to  project their own interpretations onto its layered meaning. 

Musically, “Across The River” leans into a minimalist arrangement, allowing  Louw’s voice and lyrics to take centre stage. Subtle textures and a measured  pace create a sense of tension and release, mirroring the emotional arc of  the song itself.
