Dowdy's Abandoned Amusement Park

When traveling down to the Outer Banks I came across this abandoned amusement park. I was fascinated by the colors of the park. I was also struck by the idea that someone just one day walked away and locked it up without tearing it down.

What I did on my summer vacation.

I went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Here is a shot of Currituck Bay Lighthouse.

My wife and thought yeah let's go to the top!

For some reason we both forgot that we are afraid of heights...

I also had the thought that if people could afford it more people should build houses out of brick and in a circular shape when they live near a beach.

Water Crane and James River Dam

Here is another shot from my work on the James River. I had the lens out as far as it would go (300mm). I would like to have gotten in further.

I have not check to see how far I can zoom in on the image. If it is acceptable I will post the results.

This shot was made using a tripod with remote control shutter control.

James River long exposure

As you can tell I like taking pics of nature. This is a shot of the James River. This was my first attempt at doing a long exposure. I will have more up from this shoot next week. I enjoy the effect of the blurred water, so it is something that I will play with more this summer.

Haunting Baluga Whales

Here are two of the Beluga Whales at the Georgia Aquarium. The whale in front came from a park in Mexico City where it was in ill health. You can see the a skin lision on the front flipper. Since moving to Atlanta he has greatly improved.

Flying Cownose Stringrays

We traveled down to Atlanta to see the new Georgia Aquarium. It is the biggest aquarium in the world. This is a shot of a group of cownosed stringrays swimming in the largest indoor aquarium. It looks like I took this pic underwater, but the tank is just that big! It is apparently in deepest areas about 30 feet. Simply Amazing!

New Camera

I finally joined the digital age. I went and got the Canon Rebel XT (350D). I must admit it is nice to be able to shot and be able to see the image immediately.

I enjoy that fact it does BW with filter effects in camera. The above cross was shot with a Red filter effect.

I shot this out in the western part of Virginia. It was shot on 35MM, but I attempted to get the sky more blue in Photoshop CS2 but this was the best I can do at the moment.
