Here’s one way you can do it.

This is a storyboard collage printed on wood. That’s right. Directly onto wood. In the highlights you can see the grain. Each piece is unique. They print up beautifully. These pieces have been extremely popular with engaged couples – what a gorgeous way to preserve this special time in your life! Simply hang and enjoy. This is a piece that can start in the living room and eventually transition to the bedroom as your family grows. It’s the perfect size for over a couch or a queen size bed.

Here’s my very own wall display…updated to fit our new space.

Who doesn’t love a before & after, right?

You can see my original wall display here. Here’s how I transitioned it to the new space: I added a 16×20″ family photo in the center and arranged the original display around it.

HANGING YOUR WALL DISPLAY:

1. Trace your frames/canvases onto paper (kids art paper is awesome for this!), then arrange them on the wall til you’ve got something you like.

2. Now hang the prints one at a time, right over the papers. You’re going to go ahead & put your nails in over top & then after you’ve got it all lined up you can take the paper off.

See that little yellow thing above right beside my hammer? That’s a very handy tool when doing this type of wall display & hanging with nails. It’s called the Hang & Level and it works pretty slick. Generally I use the 3M Command Strips, but the paint needs to cure before you can use those & I was too impatient! If you’re using the Command Strips, you can skip the paper part. I find they are really simple to use & I pretty much eyeball it when hanging a gallery with those. If you screw up it’s pretty easy to nudge things over using that technology (the strips just snap together).

Here’s the finished product…yes, you can most definitely mix canvases & framed prints…yes, you can create a wall display that will grow with you:

The middle frame was made with love by my Dad using boards from the barn that originally stood on our farm. I love that little piece of my past & my father’s handiwork. And the image that’s framed in it was taken on my parents’ side road thanks to my dear friend, Kate, of Novella Photography (she also shot that wedding image & the family one on the far right).
