Dressing in a stylish way when you have a chronic pain condition.

Bar the fact I like to look stylish, well put together and quite frankly cool as fuck, my number one priority when it comes to how I dress is, to be comfortable.

Having a chronic pain condition, well it sucks. I am always in pain, always trying to best deal with my many symptoms and continually trying to make my life/body as comfortable as possible. Without making this blog post a list of Fibromyalgia side effects, I thought I'd share some of the things that I find keep me as comfy as possible when I am out and about doing my thing.

So, it's January, and I'm going to start with the obvious issue that can make this month/time of year pretty uncomfortable when you have chronic pain... it's cold and wet, and this can play havoc with your joints/muscles! I wrote a tweet last week that basically said I am half in the mindset that I want to smash 2019 and make it the most productive year I've ever had and then I'm half obsessed with staying in, in the warm and staying cosy on my sofa. I feel like this back, and forth is a constant battle that I face due to having Fibromyalgia. Can anyone else relate? There is SO much I want to achieve, and I feel like I am at such a fantastic stage of my career, but it's just sooooo hard to balance everything. I continuously need to pace myself and make sure I rest in between work commitments, but sometimes I am so busy, I need to travel into London every day of the week, and that is especially hard when it's freezing outside, and my pain is heightened.

Clothing

To make sure I keep myself as warm as possible, I layer up. The starting point to most of my winter looks is a coat, and once I've chosen that, I work backwards and put the rest of the look together. I am currently very into this dusty pink wool coat and the fact that although it's thick, I can wear a few layers underneath it. The single breasted coat is a wardrobe staple, it's got a classic cut, and you'll be able to pull it out year after year. The pink coat, especially those fluffy teddy ones have been on trend for a number of seasons, but I feel like this particular pink coat is really chic and won't ever age. The coat comes up big, so I recommend sizing down! If you struggle with the use of your hands/fingers, you'll know the importance and helpfulness of clothes that are easy to do up/close etc. Big buttons, easy to grip zips, velcro are all great features when your grip is an issue. The huge, singular button on this coat definitely makes it easy to do up!

As I mentioned above, layering up is key to staying warm and cosy, and if I have to get out of my loungewear and go into the big, bad world I am sure as hell going to wear the cosiest things! This knit jumper is an absolute gem, it is softer than a newborn baby and makes me look stylish even though it feels like I am wrapped in my favourite blanky. This particular jumper is sadly out of stock online but M&S have tonnes of gorgeous knit wear pieces, take a look here.

Underneath all the trendy items, I often wear thermal vest tops as well as the comfiest bra's I can find. I used to struggle a lot and always wore an underwired bra until I realised that if you can find a good non- wired bra; you'll look just as good and it might help you comfort wise. A tight bra can make me flare up in 5 minutes. My back and neck are where I get most of my chronic pain, a comfortable bra is crucial. I love crop tops for when I'm at home, and this non-wired bra is fantastic!

Hiding underneath a lot of my clothes is often a heat pack. If you know me, you will have gotten used to me carting a hot water bottle around with me where ever I go. Heat from a hot water bottle is the number one thing that helps me when I am struggling. I even take my hot water bottles with me to warm countries. The searing heat from a bottle is the only thing that distracts me from the actual chronic pain. When I am out and about it isn't very practical to lug a bottle around, so my recent discovery of this electric heat pack has really changed the game for me. You can charge this heat pad in 10 mins, you can strap it, and it has little sleeves you can slip your hands into!

Next up, I need to talk about my IBS. Eurghhhhhhh. This is the biggest bane of my life. It affects me every day and makes me feel so gross on a regular basis. Nothing is sexy about sharing the fact that you always have a bad tummy, a bloated stomach and you just never know when a flare-up will happen. Let's just say; I know all the best toilets to use in central London. With this in mind, if I wear trousers or something with a waistband...it needs to be elasticated, pull on is preferable and if it has a high waist; this is even better. I prefer to wear trousers that sit higher up on me so that they don't dig in lower down. These High Waist Joggers are...absolutely amazing. I tried them on in front of my housemate, and I couldn't stop singing their praises. The waistband of these joggers are so comfy, they are pull on joggers, but they also look kind of smart, don't you think? No zips or buttons = fuss free!

Shoes. Shoes are my biggest bugbear in life. I need them to be comfy, but I want them to look stylish at the same time. I have always been obsessed with chunky shoes, I've rocked them for many years and me more than anyone is happy that the "Dad Trainer" is still going strong for 2019! M&S have finally come on board with this trend and omg when I tell you they are the most comfortable trainers I've ever worn; I wouldn't be lying. These Chunky Trainers are soft and padded in the inside and so supportive and make me feel so stable when I'm stomping around London. When my muscles are killing me, and my legs feel like they could fall off, I need my trainers light and not weigh a tonne. These are the kind of trainers that are oddly light, and you wonder how they make them so light!

Velcro shoes, electronic laces and slip-on shoes are also so helpful for people with limited mobility/grip problems. I often struggle with bending down to tie up my shoes, so I am a big fan of shoes/trainers that are slip-on. If I have to wear heels, I do love a good mule. Mules are easy to slip on, they tend to have chunky block heels, and they feel really sturdy.

Carrying anything heavy triggers my Fibromyalgia. I have to be very careful when I go out and about as even lugging a handheld handbag around can flare up my pain. Crossbody bags are my go-to style of bag as I find them the most comfortable. When my pain is at its worst, I like to wear mini backpacks. Back Packs spread the weight of what you're carrying, across your back and keep your arms free. Mini backpacks are compact, and the hard case ones look especially great - really chic!

Hair

Doing my hair is the number one thing that I struggle with when it comes to getting myself ready. I like to wash, blow-dry, straighten and curl my hair and this is what I do when I want to look/feel my best. Sadly, because of my Fibro I can't always do that full process. If I need to do my hair, I'll wash, blow dry and then roughly straighten it (like I did in these outfit pics). My hair is naturally curly, and I also like to leave it to air dry, especially in the summer when I want to have beachier looking natural curls. If I really can't bring myself to wash my hair, I have found the perfect hairstyle that makes me feel chic and well put together. I do a centre parting and slick my hair back into a very low ponytail at the nape of my neck. I either leave it as a, or I do a chignon (fancy word for a bun). I secure it with Bobby Pins and smooth down stray hairs with hair spray. Doing a low bun, is a chic way to style your hair when you have limited mobility and this winter, it has been my go-to style. My arms and neck have been especially bad recently and this hair style has been a life saver.

Beauty

It's no secret, I love makeup, and I love to wear a full face of makeup. When I am at home, I obviously go make up free. I never used to go out and about without makeup on but as the years go on and my pain continues to make my life more tricky I have started to go out without makeup on. It saves me energy, time and means I can rest a bit longer before going out. If I am at peak pain levels, but I still want to wear a full face, I use minimal products and just focus on the three things I prefer to have 'done'. I make sure I do my regular base, minus contouring and to give myself some colour I pile on the blush. I usually like to do eyeshadow, winged eyeliner and lots of mascara. When I do my minimal makeup look, I merely slick on lots of mascara. The final thing I always like to do is my eyebrows; I don't feel like myself without them!

Press on/glue on nails are a life saver I swear to god. My nails often look very flakey and weak due to Fibromyalgia and press on nails take under 10 mins to apply. The silver ones I am wearing in these shots took no time at all to put on and really make me feel/look like I have my shit together.

Accessories

When my pain is terrible, I wear minimal or no accessories. I just can't be bothered if I am quite honest with you. Faffing with buckles, clasps, zips, fiddly earrings does my head in, makes me more aggravated and is more likely to cause a flare-up. If I want to wear earrings, I tend to wear a simple pair of hoops that click shut and be done with it!

VERY Last Minute Gift Ideas from M&S

The homeware section is my fave. I've bought pot plants and side tables, candles and reed diffusers and I have found it so hard to part with them all as I want them for myself hahaha. Tips & Tricks: How to shop straight sizes as a plus size person.

A lot of people are often shocked when I tell them that something I am wearing is from a well known straight size shop. Now, for those who are unsure of the term 'straight size', what I mean by this is a shop that you can find on the high street, that typically only goes up to a UK16/18 and that generally doesn't typically cater to the plus size person. Think Zara, Topshop, COS.

As a plus size woman, I have always had to be very creative with where I shop and how I dress. When I was a teenager, I wore a lot of items from menswear shops, I wore stuff from brands that were too mature for me such as Wallis and I learnt how to shop with an open mind.

My first tip for shopping straight sizes as a plus size person is to know your measurements. Knowing your measurements makes online shopping a lot easier. Often, pieces are oversize, cut in a boxy way and could easily work for your shape/size. If you know what you're working with, you can often end up coming away with some fab items that you might never have even contemplated rocking.

Look out for oversize items. I think I had subconsciously been doing this for all of my teens/early twenties, but it wasn't until I lived in Stockholm, Sweden that I truly understood the importance of hunting out oversize items in straight size stores. Scandinavian fashion focuses a lot on boxy, minimal, contemporary cuts and with shops like Monki, Weekday and Cheap Monday - it is no wonder my love of oversize pieces grew once I lived there. I used to spend my lunch breaks trawling the rails of these stores and my love of Monki blossomed. Do your research and make a note of brands that you spot on social media that often produce oversize items.

Letting go of expectations is key! We all know that Zara aint for fat people. We all know that Philip Green doesn't like fat people, so Topshop will never have a plus size range. We know all this. What we have to do when shopping as a plus size person, is let go of what we expect and look outside the box. There are gems to be found on the shop floors; we just have to have the patience to hunt and an open mind.

Head to the charity shops. Charity and vintage shops are a haven of mix matched, oversize, exceptionally random garments. You never know what you're going to get and you can more often than not stumble upon a killer piece - don't forget to look through the menswear racks as well.

Don't forget the indie brands. A few years ago, I bought something from a brand called Isolated Hero's. I hadn't seen anyone wearing this sequin obsessed brand before, but they made something for me, and as soon as I posted about them, they became really popular. That might sound arrogant, but it's how it went! This brand then went on to extend their sizes! Woo Hoo! A few of my fave indie finds can be found on ASOS Marketplace.

Go, Designer. Now, this is obviously not for everyone, BUT it is an option to some, so I wanted to make a note of it. I often browse Farfetch. It is one of my fave online stores to browse, and I can get lost on there for hours. I love looking at all the new in, designer pieces but what I often notice is the fact that although most high-end designers do not like fat people or cater to us; they do often make cool, edgy oversize items that would work on our chub bodies.

Time to Party with M&S

Pass me a glass, the festive season is once again here, and I'm ready to whizz around the dance floor dressed to the nines.

Christmas is the one time of year; I go all out. I like to wear a pretty cool, minimal wardrobe throughout the rest of the year but come party season... give me all the velvet, all the luxe fabrics, all the sparkles and all the glam makeup. If you can't go all out at Christmas...when can you?

There are lots of different vibes you can go with when dressing up for your Xmas parties. I think I will do a few posts in the coming weeks focusing on the different looks you can do, but for today, I thought I would show you a more simple, fuss-free look which is perfect for those of you who aren't into wearing dresses or being overly feminine.

A dressy jumpsuit is suchhhhhh a good partywear option as it's one item, you don't have to faff with it or worry about matching other things to it (like you do with a skirt or top). It's more unique to wear a jumpsuit to something dressy, and you can take a relatively plain one and dress it up with killer heels, a bag and earrings.

SHOP MY FAVE M&S PARTY WEAR PIECES

I recently took part in a fantastic partywear shoot for M&S, and I chose to wear this beautiful velvet jumpsuit. Originally I styled it with an incredible tux jacket, thrown over the shoulders but because we had to dance and wave our hands around for the photographer, I ditched the jacket. The fit of this jumpsuit is out of this world. The chunky tie around the waist works really well at pulling you in, and I love the leg length works really well for my 5"3 frame. You can't see them from the photo below but the black heels I am wearing are my new faves and I might have bought them in leopard print as well. The heels are wide fit and will see you all the way from home to dance floor to the kebab house aha! They have a very comfy, chunky block heel and the velvet means they're really comfy. To finish off this look and give it a really glitzy vibe, I added these big statement square drop earrings. I am so into them as they are super bling-y but kinda cool as you don't see that many square shaped earrings.

Taking part in a Christmas M&S campaign was a dream come true. If you haven't gathered already, M&S are one of my fave brands and to take part in a shoot like this, makes me feel ever so proud. I am so so happy with how the shots have come out as well. The shoot set up was so cool. We had a DJ actually on set, playing 70s disco music and people firing confetti cannons at us as we danced. The photographer was so nice, he put us all at ease and was so complimentary of all of us. The best part...getting to drink M&S fizz while on set... god I love my job!

Need a confidence boost this party season? I've got your back!

If you aren't feeling so festive this year because you are already struggling with what to wear during the party season - have no fear, Danie is here!

Party season is the time to let your hair down, feast on fancy foods, guzzle ALL the fizz (responsibly ;) ) and sparkle your way into the early hours! I absolutely love this time of year as I have my annual besties night out, my work Xmas do, numerous PR dinners and lots of parties to attend. This is all very well if you have a heaving wardrobe full of party wear, but what if you have one go-to dress, that's seen better days and your heels are still covered in mud from that fancy summer barn wedding you attended back in June. It's time to add some on-trend party wear pizzaz into your life, pronto!

If you struggle to know what to wear during the festive season, updating your party wear wardrobe can be quite daunting! To help you tackle some of your party wear hang-ups, the Simply Be community wanted to ask their favourite bloggers what some of their party wear/confidence woes were and I am here to answer one of the most commonly asked questions.

Hang Up #1 - "I am a size 20/22, and I feel like I've lost my confidence. What can I wear to help?"

Right, the first thing I want to say here is: YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE ROCKET at a size 6, or a 26 and I won't have you think any less of yourself!! We can't just go to bed and wake up with confidence one morning, it is something that takes time and work, BUT it is very, very obtainable. Self-love and appreciation for what's inside goes a long way. Try to focus on how you still have the same beautiful soul as you did, before you gained weight/lost weight. Your weight or dress size is not a reflection of of you or how great you are!! I am a size 22 and my gosh, I prance around a party as if I'm the hottest girl in the room. I do this because I genuinely believe it and I wear things that make me feel happy, comfortable and sexy!

With that being said, I want to introduce you all to THE most comfortable party dress I have ever worn. I am, cross my heart, OBSESSED with this dress. When I tried it on, it did things to me...I tell you hahaha! Teamed with some killer heels...my confidence skyrocketed! I was posing for these photos as if I was the hottest IT girl ever to grace that central London Cafe!

This fine knit dress is honestly so comfortable. It isn't thick, so I don't think you'll get hot in it and it's just like wearing your fave loungewear, but out and about! I love that it is a great length, it isn't too short and it just feel so cool, trendy and relaxed but with a festive edge.

If all else fails, a faux fur coat this time of year will genuinely make you feel like an absolute babe however you are feeling! Flung on over your shoulders, draped over one arm... they take a relatively simple party wear look to new levels of glam!

How to master tonal dressing

Taking one colour and wearing it head-to-toe, is a sure fire way of nailing the key autumn/winter trend of tonal dressing. Taking-on this trend is very easy as you simply have to dive into your wardrobe, focus on one hue and mix and match your pieces. It's a great way of using items you already have, re-using old faves and it's ultimately a super chic way of dressing.

The most important factor you need to take into consideration is making sure you wear a variety of fabrics and textures, to break up the monochromatic look. The shades don't need to be identical but in the same 'family'. You can also do this with any colour but testing the waters with your fave shade is probably the best place to start.

For this head to toe tonal look, I started with a trench coat that I was gifted a few months back as part of my on-going collaboration with M&S. A classic trench is one of those everlasting styles that will never date, and it's a wardrobe staple that I think looks fantastic on anyone.

I feel that all the pieces I'm wearing for this look are all very wearable, very easy to mix and match with other items in your wardrobe (I'm already dreaming of wearing that skirt with a black sparkly roll neck, and faux fur stole come party season!)

By mixing the soft camel cashmere knit with the slightly darker tan pleather midi skirt, you keep the look interesting, and the pleats mixed with the crisp cotton of the trench also add a different dimension to the outfit. The check on the lining of the coat is also a nice little addition, and I went all out with the print clashing by adding a sheer leopard print sock. I could have worn a nice brown brogue or even a knee-high boot with this look but we all know, I love a white shoe and these shoe boots as so chic, I've been living in them all autumn. To finish off the look, I added even more brown and even more textures! This faux leather and faux fur bag looks really expensive and holds SO much.

I feel that it instantly makes a person look very classy, it gives them a very well put together edge, and I know that when I wear a monochromatic look; I feel very confident and like I look like I've got my sh*t together - something I think we all strive for regularly!

4 Simple Hacks that'll help take your Summer wardrobe into Autumn

Is it the end of summer yet? Who knows?! I'm seriously lost and seriously struggling to understand what to wear when I wake in the morning! Do you need an umbrella? Is the sun going to burn you alive? Will you melt into a pool of sweat?! I can't be the only one who's a little fed up with our temperamental British weather, who's with me?

For me to feel like a slightly better human, I am trying to get more wear out of my clothes. Now, what I mean by this is that I plan on taking some of my summer fashion faves over into autumn and trying to get as much wear out of them before stashing them away until the sun next appears in 2019. This summer I have been buying pieces I specifically know I'll be able to wear long into the colder months.

A lot of things that you wear during the summer months can be rehashed and reworked for autumn/winter and here are my top 4 hacks!

1. Footwear

I have been wearing this beloved floral print dress A LOT these last few weeks. It's worked well when it's been hot and humid, and I have been wearing it with open toe sandals. Come autumn, switch the look up by wearing mules, ankle boots, platform trainers or even knee-high boots and tights. I bet if you had a look through your wardrobe now, you could find tonnes of summery dresses that would work just as well with a more autumny shoe!

2. Layer

Take that little shift dress you have and wear it over a white tee or striped long sleeve top. Grab a roll neck jumper and wear it under a strappy dress. Get creative! I love how a white shirt looks under a v-neck shift dress. There are lots of ways you can re-work a summery look just by building up the layers. Think thin and light - if you wear five thick, chunky layers you'll be a sweltering mess, OK? I LOVE wearing a long shirt dress over jeans and this is definitely something I am going to be doing a lot this autumn! This spotty shirt dress needs to be in my wardrobe immediately!

3. Accessories

Come Autumn you'll still need those sunnies, so don't be ditching them any time soon. I go for chunky accessories when it starts to cool down. When it's hot, I like to wear fuss-free outfits, but something about autumn makes me want to pile on the chains, I love a good belt, hat, scarf, hair accessory... you name it! Pile them on!

4. Underwear

Now, you might be wondering what this hack might be. Is she going to tell us about faux fur knickers, does she prefer velvet bras in the colder months, does she wear a hot water bottle shoved down her pants?! (No, no, yes are the answers to those questions by the way) but in all seriousness, I have come across a life-changing undergarment and thought it necessary to tell you all about it. It's a Reversible Slip Dress with Cool Comfort Technology which I wear under a lot of my dresses if they are a) a bit see-through b) I'm afraid of showing sweat patches on a dress or b) am feeling a little cold and need an extra layer.

This slip is soooooo good, I swear by it, and it's definitely going to help give some extra longevity to my summer dresses.

My go-to Summer Look

Can we please talk about the abnormally hot weather that the UK has been experiencing for what seems like the last 4,340 days. I went away to Miami last week (wow it's beautiful but humid there?!) and when I came back, I thought the heatwave would have moved on but hell no, London is still a furnace, and the underground is even hotter than the sun.

This heatwave has lead me to wonder why I have ever worn polyester before, why EVERYTHING isn't just made out of natural fabrics and why the central line feels like you're on a non-stop train to the centre of the earth. It is warm here, let me tell you and the only fabrics I can bear to wear at the moment are cotton or linen... silk if I'm feeling fancy.

As a plus size woman, I am sadly not afforded the luxury of being able to wear cotton, silk or linen very often. We are often given synthetic, cheaper options, and if you're anything like me, I'd rather die than wear a synthetic fabric right now. They cling to me, they make me sweaty, and they always end up smelling musty under the armpits...is that just me?!

When I was growing up, I really struggled to know what to wear when it was hot or I had to go abroad on holidays. I do find it a lot easier now that I know I am only comfortable in cotton/linen and there is literally NO point buying other garments as a) I'll never wear them and b) it is a waste of money.

Natural fabrics are your best friend.

I am absolutely LOVING this LWD at the moment. A LWD is a 'Little White Dress', and everyone should own one. I have been wearing this particular style non-stop since seeing my own Mummy rocking it recently. We are both as obsessed with M&S as each other and we definitely inspire each other's wardrobes!

This LWD is so light, comfy and floaty and I have been wearing it a lot recently with either my tan or black sandals or my trusty white trainers. The dress can be styled up or down, and it's pretty much perfect for any summer occasion... except for your best mates wedding, wearing this white dress might be frowned upon then haha!

Packing for a city break

I have had the pleasure of going on a few trips recently, and when I mentioned online that I was going away, I received some messages about how I pack for trips, how I outfit plan and if I have any tips or tricks. Instead of replying to them all individually in depth, I thought I'd write a post for you all. Fingers crossed you find it helpful!

When you have limited time away, your packing needs to be condensed (sometimes you only have hand luggage space to contend with) and it needs to versatile. I like to pack items that I know will work with each other and that I can wear numerous times throughout the trip. If you are smart with your shoes/ accessories, you can make one item of clothing look different depending on how you style it for instance.

My travel attire

I often get questions about what I wear when travelling and my answer is always this: something comfy, elasticated and long. If the flight is relatively short, I will typically wear a comfy, elasticated maxi dress. I find my legs get quite cold and achy on trips and a maxi dress does the trick of keeping you cool in the airport, yet covered up on the plane.

If I am flying further abroad, I usually opt for leggings, a long line vest or tee and a zipped up hoody. I am not one of these people that looks chic as hell in the airport... I am ALL about the comfort! I tend to wear everyday white trainers, no matter what I'm wearing to the airport. I can't walk far in flat sandals, and I need support on my feet, so trainers are perfect. I will generally wear these same trainers throughout the whole weekend, saving space in my bag for other shoes.

My handbag is always the same when I go away. I like to take a large shopper, with a detachable clutch bag inside. This clutch doubles up as a bag when you go out for dinner in the evenings!

How many days?

If you're packing for a long weekend away, you'll need your Friday travel outfit, and an evening look. Your Saturday day and night look and your Sunday daytime look (which is potentially your travel outfit as well)

I like to break the days down into day and night looks and I also see if I can use any of my staple wardrobe pieces, more than once. Basics such as Breton stripe tops, jeans and white shirts can be styled in SO many different ways; it is worth thinking about wearing items more than once.

I also pack a pair of undies for each day and night look and one extra pair for good luck.

What's the weather like?

When you're going away, if you're anything like me, you'll check the weather every hour. I need to see how hot and sweaty it's going to be and if I need to pack a brolly or not. The key to packing for a short break is to pack thin layers that you can build up, instead of chunky knits that take up half your suitcase. Brollies are tiny these days, and sunnies are obviously easy enough to slide into your handbag or even wear on your head to/from the airport as I do.

Travel size toiletries

One of my fave places to buy travel size toiletries from is actually M&S. They have great branded products like Pixi, Ren and Nuxe and I always do a last min, next day delivery shop for items before I go away.

I am pretty lax when it comes to taking my entire skincare range with me when I go away. I would instead take minimal bottles to save weight, and I just like to make sure I have all the basics covered. I take face wipes for ease, and they're great in your handbag for freshening up on the flight. I take a little cleanser, a moisturiser with SPF in it and toner/make up remover. Controversially I don't take my eye cream when I go away as the air con in the hotel always makes my eyes puff up and its even worse if I've applied eye cream the night before.

I take my It Cosmetics Mascara, CC Cream, Concealer and I also take travel shower gels and shampoos/conditioners that I have pinched from the last hotel I stayed at.

Until last year, I never rolled my clothes; I just laid them out on top of each other. I am now an avid roller, and the difference it makes in my packing/space saving is huge. I also find my clothes are less creased and look a lot better when it comes to unpacking at the other end.

Packing Cubes

Packing cubes have changed my life. It's not just the cubes that I love, but its all the little zip-up bags and cases that these packing cube sets involve. I love them! I buy mine from Amazon and especially love the 8-piece sets. I keep my dirty laundry separate from everything else, I pack my toiletries in the larger ones, and I pack my jewellery and sunglasses in the makeup bag style ones. They are SO handy, and they honestly make packing so much easier. I even put my hand luggage things like lip balms, face wipes, earphones, chewing gum etc. into one and it saves scrambling around my big shopper bag trying to find all my things.

Mix and Match

When going away for a short break, it is important to pack clothes that you can mix and match and build various looks from. Take items that you can dress up or down by switching from trainers to heels. A cross body bag is great for the day, and if it has detachable straps, you can whip them off and use the bag as a clutch at night time.

The striped dress I am wearing is an excellent example of how you can wear something with flats for the day and then glam it up with a woven bag and white, red or navy heels for the night time.

Long maxi skirts are a great city break essential. You can wear them to the beach, while exploring in the day or glam them up with heels and a beautiful top for a perfect dinner/dancing outfit.

Classic shirts can be worn casually with trainers and tucked into midi skirts but then dressed up with heels in the evening.

Bardot style dresses are the perfect city break dress! They can be dressed down with flats for a more boho vibe and then glammed up with chunky heels when you're ready for dinner.

Act natural

When I go abroad, I try to take items made of natural fabrics as I can get very hot and sweaty when walking around a city. Polyester is NOT my friend. I hate it and hate wearing it abroad when it's hot. Linen, cotton and silk are my go to's, and thankfully they have a lot more items made out of these fabrics for us plus size women.

I've started to buy plain, handheld fans from Amazon for when I need to cool myself down and no matter where I go, people always ask where they're from. They look really chic and save me from melting! Pick one up here.

3 ways in which I recharge, re-set and relax - in collaboration with La Redoute

City life can be exhausting. Heck, life, in general, can be exhausting. It can be stressful, hectic and the weeks can speed past. Before you know it, you're worn out, feeling frazzled, and the only thing you seem to do is work, commute, sleep, repeat.

Now, that's not how life should be. Life is for living and obviously work is a vital part of existing, BUT it's so important to get a balance, so we don't burn out. As I have gotten older and I've learnt how to pace myself (because of my chronic pain condition), I've mastered the art of taking time out to just 'be'.

Taking time out for yourself is so important. You need time to recharge, reset and relax!

When was the last time you did something for yourself? More importantly, when was the last time you did something for yourself and felt no guilt? If you're a busy Mum or Dad or carer for someone, for example, you might find it hard to take time out for yourself.

If you can - I highly recommend booking in some 'me time' asap! Everyone deserves to check in with themselves, top up their physical and mental strength and look after their well being.

Here are a few things that I like to do when I feel like everything is getting on top of me, and I need some r and r time.

Spending time with my friends

I am fortunate in the fact that I live and work in London. Thankfully, most of my friends also live in this city which makes meeting up with pals, all the easier. I tend to bottle things up, which can then resurface in anxiety and worry. I know that if I meet up with a friend or my group of besties, I can share my fears, they can advise me on how to cope and also they do a bloody good job at distracting me from those worries.

I feel SO blessed with the friends that I have. I've been in London for approx 12 years now, and I've managed to collect the most AMAZING selection of friends. Uni friends, old work friends, blogging friends and even friends who I've met via social media platforms like Instagram.

My most favourite things to do with my friends are, chilling in a beer garden sipping on Aperol Spritz', grabbing brunch in one of London's fab food spots, dancing the night away at a gig or devouring a roast in my local pub.

Spending time with loved ones doesn't mean you need to spend any money. Some of my favourite 'friend time' is when they come over to mine, we snuggle up on my sofa, we order a takeaway, and we watch trash tv. It's the little things. I tend to gravitate towards this type of social time when my Fibromyalgia pain is terrible, my mental health isn't so great, and I don't feel like being out in the "real world".

Exploring London

One of my most favourite things to do, is exploring London on my own. I can go at my own pace, I can travel how ever I like and I can do what ever I like. Whilst I'm out and about, I like to stop off for food and drink in cute cafes, scout out places to shoot my blog outfits in, sit outside coffee shops and people watch and find undescovered places to add to my 'places I must go' list.

I like to have a go-to list of well loved places but my fave thing is finding a hidden gem and then recommending it to a friend. I love taking someone to a place they've not been to... I feel well smug ahaha!

Summer in this city is just so so amazing. It is hot and hard work when you have to commute every day and work in the city but when you can, taking time out to just lay in a park, have a bbq by a canal or sip drinks on The Southbank makes it all worth while!

Re- charging with selfcare

My most favourite place is my house. I love being out and about in London, attending events, getting up to mischief with friends BUT I am at my most happy when I am at home, in my lovely little safe place. When I'm at home, I don't need to be "on", I can look like trash, and no one will judge me. I can look after myself, try to contain my chronic pain and totally relax.

Spending time on my own at home, in my garden, in a park...where ever it may be, is SO important to me. Having Fibromyalgia means that I am ALWAYS in pain and for anyone who knows what that's like, it's tiring... really tiring. When I am on my own, I can zone out and focus on myself and re-charge. There's no expectation from anyone, you feel like you don't have to have your 'best face' on and you can take things at your own pace.

My favourite relaxing things to do for self care are binging an entire Netflix series from the comfort of my sofa, reading or listening to music outside, pampering myself either at home or in a local salon.

You have to remember, it isn't selfish to look after your well being. If you're feeling overwhelmed with life, it's so imperative that you learn to say 'no' once in a while and take time out for yourself. If you carry on pushing and pushing, you'll wear yourself out, and then you'll be no use to anyone!

What to wear to a summer wedding - in collaboration with ASOS

Ding Dong, Ding Dong... Wedding season is upon us, the invitations are rolling in, and if you have one coming up in the next few weeks; this post might be just the thing you need. Dressing for a special occasion is tricky in itself, but add the pressure of the fact it's during a potentially hot summer, you might be struggling to get the perfect look.

This is where I come in, always on hand to help you out...how nice am I? Ahaha but seriously, I understand how tricky it is to dress for a summer wedding, especially if it's a destination wedding.

There are a few things to take into account when dressing for a summer wedding. The heat, being the number one factor. Now, if you're anything like me, you might struggle with wearing overly synthetic fabrics when it's hot. I hate how hot and sweaty they can make you feel - gross!

Fabric type is key!

My number one tip would be to make sure you find a dress where the fabric is something light, airy and where possible, natural (such as linen or silk). This can be tricky as a lot of the more budget occasion wear options tend to be made out of synthetic fabrics, so my tip is to go for a dress that is either floaty or made from a lightweight material.

Recycle your dress

If you're heading to a few weddings this summer, you might want to think about recycling one dress. Weddings are expensive, right? A few summers ago, I had three weddings during the summer and boy can the costs add up! A printed maxi dress is the perfect option if you want to recycle your look. You can wear it with heels, glam earrings and a box clutch for a more formal wedding and then if you have a more relaxed one coming up, swap the heels for an embellished pair of sandals and you're good to go!

Comfy footwear is a must!

You've found the dress, but now it's time to get the footwear sorted. The key thing here is the comfort. No one likes a hot, swollen pair of feet, so make sure you pick the correct fitting footwear for your feet. Try a wider fit if you struggle with standard sizing, think about opting for real leather instead of synthetic (helps with the rubbing) and think about investing in a slightly more expensive pair that you can re-wear. Opting for a lower, chunky heel is always a good idea, and I love wearing a closed, pointy toe heel - saves you from having to spend money on a pedicure!

Suits You, Sir.

Gone are the days when all you could wear to a wedding was a dress and a fascinator - thank god! Mix things up a bit and try out a suit! Suits are perfect for a more casual wedding, and jumpsuits are also a great option. I love wearing jumpsuits for special occasions, and I love the fact it's always a great conversation starter. Stand out from the sea of dresses and opt for something a little different.
My top tip is to dress your summer suit up with a silky strappy top underneath and a classy clutch bag.

Summer Accessories

Box clutches are perfect for a wedding. I especially love an embellished clutch bag, when you have opted for a more minimal look. Go for a statement bag if you want to jazz up your look! Changing your accessories is the easiest way to switch up a look if you are recycling your dress. Changing your shoes or your handbag is often cheaper than buying an entirely new dress.

You can't go wrong with a statement earring, and they are the easiest way to accessorise your summer wedding look. My top tip is to pick a colour out of your dress and try to a find an earring that matches.

How to build a stylish outfit.

When I recently asked you guys to tell me what you'd like to see from me, a lot of you asked for some direction with how I put together an outfit. A full look, from head to toe, accessories included. I feel like I have somewhat mastered this process so I thought I'd sit down and take you through, step by step.

No. 1 Inspiration

Some of my looks come to me organically, or maybe I have picked up inspiration subconsciously while scrolling online, but most of the time, it is because I have documented my style inspiration. I think of it as digitally scrapbooking. Whether this is by pinning on Pinterest or saving pics to my saved collection on Instagram, I always have a go-to place where I can take a look at what outfits have caught my eye. I love finding looks on Insta or in magazines and re-hashing them to make them more 'me'. I tend to love re-working straight size outfits and making them plus size friendly. I love showing you guys that no matter your shape or size, you can make so many of the on-trend looks, work for you.

Flick through magazines, look through the hashtags on Instagram, check out the various Fashion Weeks each season, find what works for you.

Visual Merchandisers work hard to put looks together on mannequins in store. Now, I don't think they always do a fantastic job, but that's just my taste BUT, 9/10 they do help to inspire the less fashion savvy or the people who are in a fashion rut. I love looking at mannequins in stores like Zara and thinking "how can I recreate that look with clothes that'll fit me?"

No. 2 Building the look

Choose the star item - The first thing I tend to do when building an outfit is choose the main garment. It can either be a statement coat, a wicked dress or classic shirt for example. I always pick one item and then go from there.

Whether I am putting together a look for the blog or a day to day outfit, it's the same process for me. I start with the item I want to be the focus and pull together additional items that I want to compliment that star item.

Basics at the ready - Something I have learnt over the years is that basics and wardrobe staples are essential. Check out a recent post of mine here, where I detailed the top must-have items to help you build the perfect wardrobe.

Basics, such as Breton stripe tops, crisp white shirts and plain white tee's help you build a killer outfit because they are the items that are there to help glue a look together seamlessly. Alone, they aren't always the most thrilling pieces but mixed in with the statement pieces; they make a look complete!

Mix & Match - a top tip is to make sure you have pieces in your wardrobe that sing together. Make sure you have items that you can re-work over and over again and that you can pair with heaps of other things in your wardrobe. Statment pieces and on-trend pieces etc. are good, but they can date very easily, and you probably won't reach for them as much as your trusty skinny jeans or throw on t-shirt.

Watch the Weather - If you live somewhere like the UK, dressing for the seasons is kind of hard. Take the weather at the moment for instance. It is hella hot, but pouring down at the same time - this makes dressing appropriately, all the more difficult! Where possible, if you keep an eye on the weather, you'll at least know to stay away from your polyester tops if it's humid or your linen dress if its raining cats and dogs!

Versatile shoes - a lot of the issues I have with building a look, can be because I really struggle to find comfortable shoes. When I do see a shoe or trainer I like, I tend to buy them in every colour and stockpile them hahaha. If you have a versatile array of shoes, you can quickly switch up a look just by changing the shoe. A 'nice top and jeans' look can go from casual (with a trainer) to party ready (with a heel), just like that!

Go - to accessories - I love buying accessories. I am a highstreet handbag fiend, I buy too many earrings, and my recent obsession is sunglasses. The accessories available to us in store tend to be very trend driven, but I always make sure I have the classic go-to's ready and waiting to finish off a look. I like to pick out a key colour in my outfit and let that inspire my accessory choices. If I am wearing a blue/white/denim look, for instance, I will usually wear gold jewellery, white or red sunnies and yellow is also a current obsession! I just love my primary colours!

I would say those classic accessories are pieces that are timeless such as gold hoops, white trainers, your fave stackable rings, black/tortoiseshell sunglasses. Items that won't go out of style and you can wear with hundreds of different outfits.

Try on session - once you've found the star item, mixed your basics in, picked the shoe and accessorised to the gods, it's time for a try on session! Put it all on, get up close and personal with your full-length mirror and get looking! A lot of women tend to shy away from looking at themselves in a full-length mirror. This is something I find exceptionally sad, but it is a reality for many. I think it's so important to look at your body, from all angles and understand that the way we see ourselves is very different from how others do.

Get to know your body dressed and undressed! Before I go on holiday, for instance, I always prance around the house in my new bikinis to see how I feel in them and to get used to flashing the flesh.

No. 3 The boring stuff

Keep on top of your laundry - this is so simple but so helpful. I try to do my washing regularly so that I know what I have clean and know what I have available to wear. There is nothing worse than planning a look, only to find your beloved piece is in the laundry basket, and you have to start from scratch.

Invest in a steamer - Guys, ironing is killer. I hate it. I have a chronic pain condition, so it really hurts when I have to iron. A steamer has changed my life. Honestly! I keep it in the corner of my bathroom, and I pull it out whenever I need to get an item of clothing ready to wear. I used to buy a dress or a shirt and literally wear it once because after I washed it, I'd have to iron it and I am so lazy/in pain that it would just sit in the clean laundry pile or wardrobe, unworn. Now that I have a steamer and it takes minutes to make an item look brand new and crease free; I wear things over and over again, how they should!!

Find a tailor - Does anyone else have a pile of clothes that they love but they cant wear because they're too baggy or too long in the leg? I used to have this pile...well drawer full, but last year I found a seamstress in my local dry cleaning shop, and now I always get things altered. This has opened up such a variety of garments that were previously unwearable and I now have a lot more choice!

Dry Cleaning visits - I used to buy statement garments, wear them once and then they'd sit at the bottom of my laundry basket getting all musty and gross. I would say "I'll go to the dry cleaners next week", but then forget time and time again and never re-wear them. I now make a conscious effort to round up my dry clean only clothes and my clothes to be altered and take them to the shop. Now I know that I can actually re-wear my killer standout pieces and not just let them go to waste.

16 key pieces to help you build the perfect plus size wardrobe.

I think it's safe to say that no matter how many clothes we own, we all have those "I don't have any clothes to wear" kind of meltdowns! Am I right? I have wardrobes, drawers and cupboards heaving with clothes and somehow there's always an event or situation where I feel like I have nothing appropriate to wear. Now for a fashion-obsessed woman like myself, I am resigned to the fact I will always want new, fashion-forward pieces, but what I have also come to realise is, I need a fail-safe, go to wardrobe where I know I will ALWAYS have an outfit, perfect for pretty much every situation.

I recently started the mammoth job of sorting through all of my clothes, selling and giving away lots of unworn/lightly worn pieces and it has reduced what I own, considerably. I still have a long way to go till I have everything down to an amount I'm happy with BUT, what it has done is that it's allowed me to find gems I'd forgotten about and it's allowed me to see what I own easily.

Reducing my wardrobe down has allowed me to focus on what it is that I tend to wear on a regular basis and what I reach for, time and time again. A useful tip for this is to look to your own Instagram accounts, for reference. As someone who regularly shares what they wear, I found it helpful to have a collection of my outfits presented in front of me, and it made clearing out my wardrobe a lot easier. As the years have gone on, my style has obviously changed and evolved and looking at what I often wear helped me get rid of those pieces I know I will never wear again... this has given me an idea for a future blog post!

All this spring cleaning and wardrobe reducing lead me to think of this particular blog post. With everything neatly on show, it got me thinking. I made a list on my phone of all the classic, wardrobe staples that I have and felt like this could be a great checklist for anyone who is struggling to minimise their wardobes or even add to it if they're missing key pieces and often struggle to outfit build.

Wardrobe staples are the foundation of anyone's wardrobe and they really help to make outfit building that little bit easier. When I was in my late teens/ early twenties, I honestly didn't own half of the pieces I have listed below. I was really chaotic in how I dressed, how I stored my clothes and my life has honestly changed since ridding myself of those "wear once" statement pieces and building up my essential, "wear everyday" kind of pieces.

Now, I'm not suggesting you purge every statement piece from your wardrobe, that would be silly! But what I am suggesting, is that if you make way for a few more go-to pieces; you will most certainly end up getting more wear out of those statement pieces. You will have more items to mix and match with them, and there will be more ways to keep them current and on trend.

16 key pieces to help you build the perfect wardrobe.

This list could indeed be edited down, but I am a clothes fanatic and keeping things streamlined has never been my forte. You can naturally remove pieces you wouldnt wear, but I just wanted to give you a personal list of my fail-safe, wardrobe staples.

I feel like this is a good starting point for anyone who wants to build the perfect wardrobe. I also believe that this list is made up of items that anyone, no matter your size/age can wear. Fashion is for everyone!

Breton stripe top

For years and years, this was a simple item that wasn't available for us plus size women. Infuriating, right? A simple, fuss-free Breton stripe top is something you will wear time and time again, and there are countless ways to wear them. Tuck into a midi skirt, layer under a denim pinafore or pair it with jeans.

Trench coat

I feel like the trench coat is a perfect, all year round coat. It is light enough to wear in the spring/autumn, and it is a style of outerwear that will never, ever go out of trend - trust me! You see trenches in the store every year, and there are so many different versions, there will definitely be one suited to you.

Black ankle grazers

A stylish, cigarette style pant is an essential item in any wardrobe in my opinion. You can wear simple black trousers to the office, with heels for a night out and paired with a crisp white shirt. If you have ankle grazers, you are halfway to a simple yet stylish outfit, fit for all occasions!

Leather jacket

A leather jacket is a life-changing item of clothing. Never have I reached for a jacket as much as my fail-safe motto jacket. There are endless ways you can style them, and you can wear them EVERYWHERE!

Plain jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is an item of clothing that took me a while to warm to, but now that I have a simple, black jumpsuit, I can't imagine life without it. Pair it with your leather jacket and white trainers for a fresh, relaxed look or grab some strappy heels and hit the dance floor!

Culottes

If you don't own a pair of culottes... you need to sort that out, fast! Every time I see a pair of culottes on a plus size woman, I think how good she looks to myself. Your Breton top, leather jacket, trench coat, classic knit, duster jacket (and everything else) will go with these and trust me; you'll get so much wear out of them.

Classic knit

A round neck, knit is something you might not have thought about owning, BUT trust me, they are so great. I wear mine with midi skirts, over my shirts, under my denim jacket and with my skinny jeans. They are simple, yet very effective. Be careful when you come to wash them, I have ruined a few!

Everyday shirt

It took the plus size world a while to get to grips with the classic shirt, but I am happy to report, they are now readily available, and everyone should own one. Make sure you get one that fits well and doesn't gape. I currently own classic white shirts, as well as more fashionable ones which look great paired with jeans (as shown in my photos).

Skinny jeans

Finding jeans is a bloody nightmare, isn't it? For years, I didn't even wear them, and couldn't find the perfect pair. I can now report I have found the perfect pair and wear them week in and week out. Thank you, Levis! When wearing jeans, your looks don't need to be dull and frumpy though... pick some jazzy statement tops or wear with a Breton and a trench and voila, you have a perfect outfit!

Cool blazer

Now I'm a newcomer to the world of blazers, but I am thoroughly involved now. I love how they jazz up a jeans & tee combo, and they look amazing worn over a roll neck and paired with a midi skirt. Roll up the sleeves and watch how donning a blazer can really boost your confidence.

White tee

You can find a classic, white tee in most plus size collections nowadays and boy will you get your wear out of it. I think you can pair it with almost everything on this list and you can find ones on every budget.

Shirt dress

I have yet to see someone who doesn't suit a shirt dress! There are so many variations of this style that you are guaranteed to find one that works for you. They look great layered under knitwear, jackets and coats and you can also dress them up with heels or down with trainers.

Denim jacket

If you don't own a denim jacket... you seriously need to sort yourself out hahaha! They are the perfect layer for when you go on holiday as they look great over summer dresses and they also go with your jeans, midi skirts, jumpsuits, culottes...

Check the men's section and main ranges for oversize styles... I guarantee there's a style out there suited to everyone, no matter your age.

A LBD

Every woman needs a LBD. They are my go-to when I'm going out-out or when I'm going to an event. I think your chosen LBD should be versatile and relatively minimal.

Midi skirt

I've not met a midi I didn't like. They are the most versatile of all the skirts in my opinion. They look so cool with t-shirts or crew neck jumpers, and they suit every shape and size!

Duster jacket

A Duster is such a wearable piece. I wear a duster jacket every week. They look great draped over your shoulders for a night out or worn normally with your more casual looks. A duster jacket is a great transitional piece, and I promise you will get so much wear out of a simple, black one.

My Career history and How I got into Blogging.

On a recent Instagram post, I asked you, my readers for a little bit of help. I asked for some blog post ideas as I lacked in inspiration. Boy oh, boy did you guys come through! The post had hundreds of fantastic, inventive ideas below it and it ignited something inside of me.

I have mentioned before that I worry about my writing capabilities, but it's time I just shut up and got on with the task at hand. I CAN write, I CAN articulate myself and let's not forget, I am in charge of what goes on this blog, so I need to suck it up and get typing!

One of the ideas shared, was for me to write about my career prior to blogging as well as how I got into blogging. This idea stuck out to me because it was something personal and it meant me sharing a side of me that I haven't touched on before. I am an oversharer, and I find it very easy to do this face to face with people, why not bring that over to my blog more?

As I have progressed with my blogging career, it has dawned on me that people are inherently nosy and love to learn things about my life, how I choose to live it as well as the type of clothes I like to wear.

If I end up helping even just one person with my words, to feel inspired or less alone; I will be happy.

My writing is never going to win any awards, but it's not a competition is it? I just have to keep reminding myself why I started this blog and how you're all here to support me and to ignore the niggles in my brain that tell me I'm not good enough or that others say things better than I do.

This is me, like it or lump it!

My Career History

Anyway, onto the focus of this post! Let's start at the beginning... (a very good place to start). When I was at school, I was atrocious in the sciences, maths and pretty much anything that wasn't arts based. I excelled at Art and Design and decided I needed to harness this talent I possessed and apply for a Foundation Course. I wanted to move to London. If I was going to go to art school, it HAD to be in London. Luckily I got accepted onto a Foundation Course at Chelsea College of Art and Design which is part of The University of The Arts London. I was made up! I moved to London, got stuck into my Foundation Course and was in my element. I came to the decision pretty quickly that I needed to study an applied art. I didn't have the confidence or motivation to study Fine Art, so I applied to do Textile Design at Chelsea. I passed my Foundation and got accepted onto the Textile degree, and after having a taster of stitch, print, knit and weave; I decided to specialise in print. I felt like this was a very natural path for me to choose as it would allow me to draw/paint and bring my drawings to life in print form. After a tumultuous three years of hard work, excessive partying, a near breakdown, the beginnings of a chronic pain condition and a dyslexic diagnosis; I passed my textile degree with a 2:1 and wow... I didnt think I'd get there.

For my Degree show, I designed jungle themed, unisex bomber jackets and luckily these attracted the attention of some of the team at H&M who came to look round our final degree show. The Head of Print Design called me a few days after the show, I went in for an interview and bamn! I was offered my first ever job in fashion, straight out of Uni! I started off working for H&M in the UK office, before moving to their Swedish HQ in Stockholm.

Working for H&M was an eye-opener. I had previously been used to just getting by at uni, I hardly even knew how to use photoshop and wasn't used to being creative on demand for a commercial brand. It was very different from having the creative freedom of being at university. I half loved living in Stockholm, and half hated it. I loved Sweden in the summer, but come winter and -21 degrees; I wasn't as enthused. During my time at H&M, I designed printed textiles for the lingerie dept, kidswear, their plus size dept (which was called BiB back in the day) and also for their maternity range. I have to admit, I really struggled. I had a lot of responsibility, and I struggled with stress a lot. I also missed my life in London, my friends and family and I knew I'd never stay there forever.

While I lived in Sweden, I started to become very unwell, and this is where I believe I first started to see signs of Fibromyalgia. I will talk more on this in another post, but I went undiagnosed for the whole time I was living in Sweden, and it made my decision to move back to London, a lot easier.

After working for H&M, I then moved back to London and was lucky enough to get another print design job for Monsoon. I have to admit; I absolutely hatedddddddd this job. Wow, I could write an entire post on this but let's just say, I hated every aspect of the job, and as I continued to show more signs of having a chronic pain condition, I really struggled. After a year and a half of designing prints for Monsoon Kidswear, I HAD to get out of there.

Designing prints for the commercial sector actually killed my love of designing/drawing. I felt stressed and uncomfortable any time I went to design, and I hated that working in this field actually made me want to run away from my skills and never draw again. I plucked up the courage to hand my notice in and during my time of unemployment; I decided I needed to try a change in career.

Through a friend, I started on the journey of training to become a social worker. I started off by volunteering at a care home for teenagers and this lead to me studying for an NVQ. I loved the change of pace, I loved working with the kids and learning an entire new skill base, BUT my health got in the way so badly; I had to give it all up, move home to my parent's house in Devon and quit my London life for a few years.

How I got into blogging

While I lived at home and I underwent a proper diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, I came to the decision that I wouldn't be able to hold down a typical 9-5 job. My Fibro symptoms were at their worst, and a lot of the time, I was immobile, very sickly and very depressed. My parents and I did everything we could to get me back on track, but it was hard.

The one thing I always loved doing while I lived at home, was sharing my outfits on Instagram. I have been plus size since I was 13 and after becoming obsessed with plus size bloggers like Gabi, Nicolette and Stephanie Zwicky; I decided I wanted to be like them! I wanted to help inspire women around the world. Growing up, I didn't have anyone, who looked like me, to look up to and wanted to change that. I wanted to show women that no matter what they looked like, no matter their size; they could still look and feel great...and dress bloody amazingly!

Instagram connected me to so many bloggers across the globe and most importantly to the UK plus size blogging community. I shared my outfits with gusto, tagging brands and using hashtags and making online friends with fellow bloggers. The next step for me to take was to start a blog.

Looking back, I'm not sure why I chose Tumblr as a platform to host a blog, but that's what I did and so began my blogging career!

In 2013 after posting on my Instagram and blogging on my Tumblr, I was invited to my first ever blog event. Oh my god, I was so excited, and I remember this event like it was yesterday. I met lots of the friends I had made online, including my BFF Callie and even though I was in pain for every minute of the event; I knew this was a world I wanted to be part of.

That blogger event, hosted by Evans ignited something in me. I returned home to Devon and tried my hardest to grow my blog. Even though I was ill most days, (and I still am to this day) I tried to build my online presence and shoot my outfits, travel up to London for events and make it in the blogging world. As the months went by at home in Devon, I knew that I wanted to be a full-time blogger.

Throughout the two years that I lived back home in Devon, I focused on getting my Fibromyalgia under control (where possible), and my long-term aim was to move back to London and become the best blogger I could be. I worked hard, networked my ass off, collaborating with brands and got my name out there. By the time it was time for me to move back to London, I had, in my opinion, secured myself as a strong contender in the plus size blogging world.

From the moment I moved back to London and was able to meet more brands, attend more events and work with even more companies; my career took off at a nice pace. I was able to support myself and went full time. Fast forward to 2018, and I CANNOT believe the opportunities that blogging has given me. It blows my mind that I can now call myself a blogger, designer and consultant.

From a dark place, I managed to crawl out of it, and I now have the best career I could have. I am very privileged to be able to rest when I need to, work when I can and take things at a pace that is manageable. Living With Chronic Pain...

Over the Christmas period and more recently, because of the freezing cold weather, my chronic pain (Fibromyalgia) and chronic fatigue (CFS) were off the charts. I struggled SO badly and it really, really affected me physically as well as mentally. In order for me to preserve any energy/sanity, I kept myself to myself for a lot of the time. I had to leave my brother's house on Christmas Day to crawl into bed as the pain was so bad. I had to spend Boxing Day by myself instead of going to Winter Wonderland with my family and I spent the days after Christmas up until New Year's Eve, on my own.

Who else hides themselves away when their chronic pain or mental health is in pieces? I find that when it's all too much for me; I recoil and shut myself in. The reasons for me doing this are varied, but mostly it's so that I feel less of a burden on those I'm with. I get fed up of lying and saying I'm fine when really I'm not. It is easier not having to explain myself/my pain. I know if family members or friends were to read this they would tell me not to be so silly, BUT it's something you have to battle with when you have chronic pain or a disability and no one can take those sorts of feelings away sadly.

Whilst I was on my own and lying in bed I made a list. I compiled a list of just some of the thoughts I have about living with chronic pain. This is a list of what I personally feel chronic pain does to me. It's a list of what chronic pain does to my brain as well as my body.

I try my hardest to not let my chronic pain define me BUT it's damn hard. It's not all doom and gloom, I generally have a fantastic life with friends and family who love me but...

For me, this is what living with chronic pain is like...

Procrastinating and putting off things. AKA posting this post that I wrote back in January!

Spending the festive period on your own because sometimes, even being surrounded by people who love you; can be too much.

Having a kettle by your bed so that you don't have to go down 3 flights of stairs to make a hot water bottle.

Grieving for the life you once had, before you were constantly in pain.

Cancelling date after date because you fear they'll run a mile once they find out you're in agony, every day.

Feeling like you let EVERYONE down, all the time.

Postponing and cancelling on people until they stop asking.

Lying in bed, supposedly the most comfortable place on Earth and it might as well be a bed of nails.

Wondering if your friends are sick of you being the "special" one. The one who needs the comfy bed when you go away, the one who can't attend 50% of your get-togethers.

When you know a hot bath or shower would help relieve your pain, but getting up, undressing & turning the taps on/off is too much.

Feeling like you're triple the age you really are.

Being surrounded by piles of washing because doing the laundry is far too much.

Wondering if you'll go to the toilet on yourself because you can't get to the toilet quick enough.

Feeling like no one will ever want to be with you.

Apologising/forgiving, even when you know you're not in the wrong because being in an argument for any longer; will just cause you too much anxiety & even more pain.

Spending days and days in loungewear.

Being jealous of your peers and how much they achieve daily, weekly, monthly.

Feeling like you're a let down to your family because all you do is complain and whine to them.

Being in so much pain, you stutter because you can't get your words out properly.

Not doing your hair because you can't face lifting your arms for that long.

Wondering if you'll ever have a day when you wake & your first thought isn't pain.

Cancelling something you have wanted to do for weeks.

Feeling like you hate everyone, even the people you love.

Watching one channel on television for hours on end because the remote control is too far out of reach.

Being unable to carry your own suitcase

Leaving your DSLR camera at home every day because it's too heavy for you to carry.

Ordering uber eats 3X a day because you can't face cooking/preparing anything.

Taking taxis everywhere you go because travelling by public transport/walking is too much.

Being skint because all you do is take taxis & order take away food.

Having scars on your back, stomach and legs from years and years of hot water bottle burns.

Wondering every week if your management is going to let you go because you're always sick & you're not achieving enough.

Having no space in your brain for anything else other than pain.

Not being able to screw the cap off some medicine, because you have no grip.

Taking a hot water bottle abroad even though it's 30degrees +.

Planning out every single journey so that you know every single minute detail.

Turning down travel opportunities because the thought of the travel/flight is too much.

Worrying so much about all of these things, that it gives you IBS for over 9 years.

Thinking everyone just thinks you're lazy.

Pretending you're ok when really you'd prefer to not be alive.

Lying awake, even when you are shattered but your central nervous system is so hyped; it won't let you go to sleep.

Being in so much pain, you throw up.

Wanting to achieve everything & feeling like you achieve nothing.

Looking at your friend's lives and being so jealous you wish something shit would happen to them, just for once.

Knowing you'll probably never have kids because even babysitting relatives for a few hours, leaves you in agony.

Keeping all of this to yourself because it's easier than telling someone.

Having no short-term memory because your brain is occupied by pain signals.

Having no sex drive because all of the above, just isn't very sexy now, is it?

Having a high sex drive but even just lying down in bed hurts.

Telling everyone you're "fine" when really, you're far from it.

Losing countless friends because you can't keep up with them all & they expect too much of you; so it's easier just to let the relationship slide.

Not texting anyone back because then you have to face up to why you've been ignoring their texts.

Wondering what it feels like to have a pain free hug from someone.

Wanting to exercise but being unable to.

Sitting on the tube because you're in agony but giving your seat up because no one can see you're in pain & you're worried about looking unkind/unsympathetic to somebody else in need.

Using a hot water bottle minus the fabric cover because the burning sensation/pain distracts you from your chronic pain.

Being in such a good mood, you want to cry because you know this feeling isn't going to last.

Being sick of your own thoughts.

How I cope

As I mentioned above, there are good days. There are days where the pain is manageable and I don't let it control me. It's very, very hard though. It is something that I am still trying to get to grips with and I do wonder if things will ever get better.

Lots of people private message me about how I cope with my Fibromyalgia and the one thing I constantly say is - pace yourself. You need to realise what your limitations are and what it is that will trigger your symptoms. For me, I know that stress, cold weather, travelling and walking/standing for a long time & dancing on a night out are my worst triggers - there are tonnes more, however. I then make sure that I plan as much as I can if I know I am going to do any of those things. I try to alleviate the stress of situations where possible by thinking about how every stage will affect me. If I am travelling for instance - I plan my journey, I pre-order my cabs, I take a pillow/hot water bottle with me and I make sure I carry as little as possible... the list goes on.

~ Seize the day ~

When I am having one of my good days - I really have to make the most of it. I have to seize the day! Shooting content with my photographer is an example of this. I have been struggling for a good few weeks since London Fashion Week and have been wanting to shoot these denim jeggings from Matalan since receiving them back in February! Sadly it's taken longer than I wanted - but I just had to listen to my body and wait it out. Finally, I felt strong enough last week, slugged through the snow and shot this snuggling, comfy, classic outfit.

Some days I like to dress in a striking, edgy way and some days I like to be comfortable, timeless and relatable. Denim and a Breton jumper is the perfect combination for that 'done but not too done' look, in my opinion.

London Fashion Week AW18

London Fashion Week was short and sweet for me this season. I only managed to attend 2 out of the 5 days, which even for me (somoeone with a chronic pain condition) is pretty crappy. My Fibromyalgia has hit me really hard recently and it has severly restricted the amount of work and fun I've been able to have.

For the two days I did attend, I of course slayed my outfits and loved what I managed to do/see; so not all was lost! There is a lot of preparation that goes into Fashion Week, maybe I should write a post on this another time? There's the applying for shows, scheduale planning, visiting gifting suites and pre LFW events, the outfit planning and sourcing items from fashion PR companies. For me, I also have to prep for the pain I am going to feel and the lack of rest etc. It's a busy time for me, but becuase I love Fashion Week so much; it's a process I am willing to do every time LFW comes around.

Here's what I wore on...

Day 1...

After recently getting my hair cut at Josh Wood Salon (they are SO great there by the way) I started to think about wearing a beret. Strange thought process I know, but I love a split fringe and how they look with a beret, so that was the starting point to my first look!

I've never really worn a hat before as I don't feel like most of them suit me, but oh my god, I'm here for how great a beret looks on me! I picked this very affordable one from ASOS, but now that I know I like the style, I might branch out and get a pricier one!

Next up, I spotted this check pinafore and fell in love! I have wanted something like this in plus sizes for soooo long! Asos Curve came through! I previewed this dress at the SS18 press day and noticed they had a matching blazer. Sadly this isn't on the site yet but as I knew I wanted to wear the dress with a matching jacket; I searched for a similar check coat. ASOS came through yet again (seriously where would us plus size girls be without ASOS?) This check jacket is from their main range and is a size 18. I am currently wearing size 20 jackets, so if you're a similar size to me; this jacket is also going to work for you.

For my accessories I wore my comfy wide fit ankle boots (similar linked below), they have a teeny tiny kitten heel and meant I could walk comfortably, all day without my feet hurting - something that is very important during LFW! As I was building the outfit up, I realised a little backpack would suit this look perfectly so yet again...I turned to ASOS. Can anyone else notice a strong theme here for this look? The red of the bag ties in with the stripe in the side of the jacket and I also grabbed my old red sunnies as I was going out the door. I love the round frames with this look.

Day 2...

For the second day at LFW, I wanted to wear a classic "Danie" outfit with a touch of sexiness... oi oiiii! Enter, the sheer bodysuit. When I recently dropped into the Pretty Little Thing HQ, I had a browse for items I could style up and noticed this bodysuit. True to size, good old poppers at the crotch and a great red stripe detail... it was an instant hit with me. I also attended a pre- LFW gifting suite at River Island and they gifted me some bomb pieces including the wide leg trousers I decided to wear. I initially wanted to wear a very on trend, all polka dot outfit but I couldn't resist pairing the bodysuit with the trousers. They're high waisted with a paper bag waist, and boy are they comfortable and fashionable - you guys need to try them out!

To keep me warm (guys can we talk about HOW COLD IT IS here in London?) I trawled online for the perfect coat to accompany this look. I always love white clothes, which I know are highly impractical, but I can't resist them. This white coat is an absolute dream, and I wore it normally (arms through the sleeves like a normal person) and in true blogger style (over the shoulders), and it gave such a chic edge to the look. The coat is again from main range ASOS, but it's oversized and would work for anyone who wears up to a 24.

The absolute STEAL of the weekend was my cheap, cheap, mega cheap sunglasses from eBay. Have you guys noticed all of the slim sunnies out at the moment? I love these as they've got a sliced cat eye look about them. You cant argue with £1.99 guys, can you?

The highlight of my LFW this season was being invited to stay at the Rosewood Hotel courtesy of IQOS. They put us up in the most gorgeous, IQOS friendly rooms – as IQOS has no ash, no smoke or lingering smell I didn’t have the fear of making my clothes and hair smell after everyone left my room – amazing! The rooms were stunning and made getting ready for shows and the evening shenanigans at an IQOS friendly bar, an absolute dream.

My love-hate relationship with dating.

Dating. Who's doing it and what do you think of it? I am currently dating, and I must say; I have a love-hate relationship with it if I'm truly honest with you. I LOVE when you're two or three dates in, but I get SO nervous before a first date, no matter how well I know the guy.

I over think everything, so I worry about EVERYTHING before I meet someone. I come across as very confident and approachable but I actually really suffer from nerves in situations where I have to put myself out there. Anyone else with me on this? I can chat utter shite on Instastories, be the loudest in the room at an event but put me in front of people on a panel, make me do public speaking or send me on a first date, and I'm a nervous wreck!

I am 32 this year, and I have yet to go into detail about my love life here on the blog. To be honest with you all, fashion was my primary focus here for years but as time's gone on; my confidence with writing has grown, and I love sharing more of the lifestyle-type posts with you all. I am really open, and I don't have much of a filter when I'm chatting away on Twitter or Instagram; SO why shouldn't I be more like that here on the old blog?

So here we go... here's my dating history eek!

I haven't had the best love life. I had a few, short relationships at school but that was it. Lots of snogs and fumbles (don't fancy being too graphic seeing as my Mum reads my blog) but nothing long term. I was fortunate and privileged to go to a boarding school from the ages of 13-18, and I loved it, but I was pretty much single for the whole time. I had flings with guys, but apart from being scarily obsessed with a guy there for, I'd say five years...I never really felt like any of the guys were my type. I moved to London when I was 18 and BOOM this was more like it! Guys from different countries, guys from different backgrounds, guys who weren't just public school toffs... I was like a kid in a candy shop!

In my first week of Uni, I fell for a guy in my Halls of Residence. I met him in a lift, invited myself into one of his parties later that week, and we instantly hit it off. We became best friends immediately, went out with each other and dated for a while (I think it was a year?). Fast forward to 2018, and you might know the guy...he's still my best mate and he is called Bob. Bobbi is now a fully-fledged homosexual hahaha. I know what you're thinking, and no I didn't turn him gay. I knew he was Bi when we got together, but I actually helped him to come out when we broke up, and I love him with all of my heart. Bob is THE best person I have ever met, and I am so glad he's my best friend.

After Bob, I met a guy through a friend. I fell in love with him, dated him on and off for years and then got into a relationship with him for approx 3 1/2 years. We broke up but continued to date/sleep together for years after and I'd say he was the first guy I've truly loved. I then dated different guys on and off after him (some great dates, some were awful, maybe I need to write a post on all my dating fails?) before meeting someone in 2015. I don't feel much like talking about this guy if I'm honest with you...but let's just say, I'm glad that's over with LOL.

It's 2018, and after a few nice but not-quite-right-dates as well as DISATEROUS dates since my ex, I am back feeling confident and enjoying the dating scene again, kind of.

Dating in London is tough work. Tinder and dating apps are great, and they've lead me to date some brilliant guys, but does anyone else feel like the guys/girls in London don't like to settle? I feel like because there is SO much choice here, the guys are always on the lookout for the next best thing. I have met plenty of guys over the last few years, but they've all been too young, too fucking moronic or too much of a player. I seem to have a sign above my head that says "Wankers Welcome", and that has slowly worn me down I must say!

It's not all doom and gloom guys.

I LOVE when you've had a successful first date, and you're on your way home, and you can't stop thinking about them. I like to ask my uber driver to put Magic on and look lustfully out the window like I'm in some bloody rom-com. I love when one of my faves like George Micheal comes on, and I well up and start planning my commute from my house to his...pahaha hahaha.

I love/hate the whole texting thing. My entire face lights up when the guy I like texts. I stick to imessage where possible because it is not healthy how much I check the 'read' status on WhatsApp after texting a boy I like. Stick to imessage, and you've only got to battle with watching that text bubble appear and disappear until they finally press 'send'.

I also love that online dating can lead you to meet people you wouldn't typically meet in your normal day to day life. I was stuck on meeting guys that I was getting to know via my social media lifestyle and I quickly realised this wasn't how I wanted to meet someone. Online dating does open you up to a lot more people, serious about dating and I would much prefer to meet someone like this/via a friend. Instagram is not tinder, and I have to keep reminding myself of that!

I'm not so ready to talk about where I'm at right now but let's just say I'm happily dating and I'm enjoying myself! Let's see where it goes, all I know is that I'm definitely up for finding love again. I'm surrounded by a lot of friends who are married, and in love and hell, I want that for myself.

The importance of staying in your own lane

A conversation with a friend a few week's back inspired me to write a little something on the importance of "staying in your own lane". Obviously, this saying refers to both driving in your designated lane, as well as focusing on yourself (and not other peoples dramas/achievements/goals) and for the record, I am going to talk about the latter in this post!

It is easier said than done...'Just stay focused on yourself, Danie', 'Ignore what so and so is doing, Danie', 'Don't worry unnecessarily over things you can't control, Danie'... all of these things are so hard to do! That cliched quote of "comparison is the thief of joy" really does what it says on the tin. It is EASY to get swept along with the tide of comparison. It sucks you in and then spits you right back out again and before you know it; you're 45 weeks deep on Instagram, on someone's page and feeling like a big bag of shit cos your life ain't so great.

STOP IT! Just stop it.
Do YOU, honey. Do you.

My number one problem when it comes to staying focused on my own journey is when I let the fact I have a chronic illness consume me. In my head, I feel ok... (I mean I have anxiety, and I over worry, and I have Fibro Fog due to my chronic condition) BUT it's my body/pain that lets me down the majority of the time.

I want to achieve SO much, but I physically can't/severely struggle. When I am at my worst, I am home for days on end, lying on my bed/sofa and glued to my phone. I see fellow bloggers posting content, I see friends and family smashing work targets/life goals...and there's little old me, just lying in my four day old PJs and wondering if I'm going to be dropped by my management, forgotten in the blogging world or ever get married/have a baby. That shit eats me alive. I can get so worked up about it at times.

I need to learn to shut it out. Focus on my personal journey, and you need to do the same!

The "joy" of my condition is that I have good days and I have bad days. Even on my good days, I am still in severe pain, but I can put a front on and tackle the day. I need to remember that I do A LOT for someone with chronic pain and I should be really proud of myself and what I manage to/have accomplish/ed.

If you too are struggling with these feelings of self-doubt/jealously then I urge you to join me in attempting to put a lid on it in 2018... (as much as possible)! We need to learn to notice when we are being sucked in by those niggling feelings and we need to step away from the situation. Put the phone down, so you get off Instagram. Write a list of all the good shit you've achieved that week/month/ year. Call or text someone and just tell them straight, tell them "I'm having a confidence wobble and I need some reassurance."

Bamn! It is just what I NEEDED (I can't say at the time, it was what I WANTED) to hear. It was one of those lightbulb moments. My friend had given me a much-needed boot up the ass, and I am here to do the same for you...

Focus your energy/time spent hating on others/time spent being jealous of others, on YOU!

In 2018 (and beyond) we need to remember that we are all different and that we were all put on this bonkers planet to achieve greatness...in our own special way, at our own special pace.

5 Looks You Need from M&S Curve

If you follow me on social media you will have seen me discussing my involvement in the recent launch of the M&S Curve range. I was privileged enough to help consult on the range as well as design two LBD's to co-inside with the launch.

When I started my blog, if you would have told me I would move into consultancy work and design work; I wouldn't have believed you. I started my blog as a hobby and now look at me! I am so lucky to be able to say I absolutely love my job! Blogging has enabled me to branch off into so many different creative outlets and long may it continue. In 2018, my two main goals are that I want to do more consultancy work and more design work. I can't wait to see if I manage to achieve either/both of these goals!

M&S Curve

M&S Curve launched 33 pieces online on the 9th January and today see's the collection expand to a total of 100 pieces. Ranging from size 18-32, M&S Curve has been designed with the curve customer in mind and the attention to detail across the range is evident. The Curve collection, for instance, is designed on a size 24 block (as a posed to a size 12 for main range) and details like this mean that our plus size bodies are really taken into consideration from start to finish.

This first SS17 drop comprises of casual daywear pieces, basics, evening wear and fantastic fitting denim. You can see below my edit of favourite pieces and let's not forget the two LBD's I designed! I took my ideas to M&S and they allowed me to design a dress from scratch. We designed three styles with the aim of launching one BUT I/they liked two styles so much...they let me take two to production.

My Top 5 Curve Looks

Look 1

Take one sleeveless LBD, add THE comfiest faux leather biker jacket and voila, you have a chic look suitable for a day at work or after work drinks with your friends. The hardwear fastening at the waist and fabric mix make this dress a really unique piece for plus size women.

I am wearing the M&S wide fit trainers in this look (as well as some of the below looks) and FYI they are really comfortable. I am so proud of this dress. Designing this one, along with the dress is Look 3 is one of my proudest achievements.

Look 2

This look incorporates some of my fave things. Cool grey denim, a crisp white shirt and a statement jacket. This sleeveless trench is the softest thing you'll ever feel and is so god damn cool. Style with the collar up and tie the waist belt in a chunky knot.

Look 3

My favourite look from the collection! I may be biased, but I LOVE this Little Black Dress that I designed. I especially love the mesh 3/4 sleeves, the gathered fabric at the waist and the free-flowing strip of fabric at the yoke of the dress. Fling a leather jacket over your shoulders and either style down with trainers or up, with chunky heels.

Look 4

A great fitting jumpsuit is a wardrobe essential in my opinion. They are so versatile and suit everyone no matter your age. I kept this look very simple by styling with a chunky high heel to let the jumpsuit do all the talking. This jumpsuit would also look great worn with flats/trainers.

Look 5

The perfect spring dress. I love the back-waist belt and the way this dress really pulls me in. The colour is muted and looks so good styled with monochrome accessories. I have styled this occasion wear dress for a daytime look BUT add some killer heels and this would be perfect for a wedding or fancy dinner.

Smart Works X Navabi - Workwear Wardrobe

Sometimes we quite frankly, need to be educated and when I met with the incredible organisation, Smart Works; that's just what they did. They opened my eyes to something I had honestly never thought about and made me realise just how privileged I am (in more ways than one).

Smart Works is a charity that provides out of work, on low-income women, the chance to kit themselves out with amazing quality workwear so that they are able to go to interviews appropriately dressed. The charity doesn't just dress these women though, they go a lot further than that. Smart Works provide every woman with styling advice as well as interview training so that they can face their interviews with confidence and self belief.

Many of the clothes that Smart Works receive (as donations) are straight-sized. Where does this leave plus size women you must be thinking?! Well, luckily fantastic companies like navabi help by donating clothes as well as going one step further...

No matter who you are/what background you're from, if you're plus size; looking for work wear is extremely hard. Ever get stressed trawling allllll the shops online, looking for all the components of an outfit? Sometimes you just need to get everything in one place and be done with it.

I like a little mission and I've collaborated with my faves at La Redoute and my mission was to build two looks, wearing La Redoute's own brands. If you didn't know, La Redoute also sell tonnes of popular brands like Adidas and Levis and their homeware is also banging - I've got so many items on my wishlist!

Anyway, back to the task at hand! Who wants to see the two looks I put together?

Look 1 - A Daytime Look

Need some off-duty inspiration? Look no further! I have taken the cosiest jacket of all time and styled it with some super casual pieces for the perfect daytime look.

Now, it's a little chilly at the moment BUT this puffa jacket is like stepping out in your duvet so even with the bare legs; you're good to go. I picked other casual items that you can style in heaps of different ways meaning you can optimize the amount of wear you get out of your one-shop items.

I never knew I needed a white roll neck top until it arrived and I put it with the pencil skirt and jacket! I live in my standard black one but I feel like a white one is like having a little festive revamp! No daytime look would be complete without a pair of classic trainers and the colour of these really stood out. They tie in nicely with the burgundy stripe running down the side of the skirt and for a pair trainers, you can't complain about £23.40 - such a bargain!

Look 2 - A Nighttime Look

It's officially party season and if you've got a jam-packed diary - you'll need some party appropriate togs! I've taken one navy velvet dress and given it a 'Danie twist' by adding monochrome accessories.

I read somewhere on Instagram that navy and black shouldn't be worn together and my eyes rolled so far back in my head; it's a surprise I can still write this! Of course, navy and black can be worn together - just look how great they look together in this look!

This midnight blue, velvet swing dress is very comfortable and flowy and I reckon it'd be a great go-to dress - it's so wearable and fuss-free. Throw on a fluffy white coat and some seriously sexy boots - you're good to go! I love wearing heeled boots in winter instead of strappy heels, it keeps your toes warm and you don't have to worry about getting your unsightly toenails out! Need a cute little party bag, La Redoute have you covered...just look at this adorable circle bag! I've already taken it out with me for a few nights out and I can tell I'm going to reach for it all winter long.

NYE Outfit Goals

As Kristen Wiig famously yells in the film Bridesmaids, "I'm ready to PAAAAAAAARTY!"

Every year I spend the festive period with my family but come New Year's Eve, I'm back in London and it's all about the bubbles and besties! I have absolutely NO idea what I am doing this year but one thing I do know is that I'm gonna look hella pretty!

Whether you're going out or staying in, I thought it might be helpful to show you what I plan on wearing and that might inspire you to dress up this NYE.

If I could put a bet on what I do this year, it'd be celebrating with a small gang of friends at one of our houses, I'll consume a lot of Aperol and we'll sing, dance and play lots of games - even just writing it makes me smile. I've not gone out-out for NYE in a long time. I love the ones where I end up at a local pub or at my friend's warehouse...wow I really am getting old now.

Whatever you end up doing, I hope you have a fab night and if you drink, don't forget to down lots of water before going to bed - it'll help that horrendous hangover!

What I'm wearing

My stunning jumpsuit is by Premme.

Premme was started by my two friends in the states, Nicolette Mason and Gabi Gregg. You will most certainly have seen them...they are the QUEENS of plus size fashion. Nicolette and Gabi were two of the bloggers I started following 5/6 years ago and I look up to and admire both of them soooo much. I want to be like them when I'm grown up haha.

5 Things to Remember this Christmas

1. Those pictures you see on social media don't tell the entire truth.

No matter what time of year it is, you're always bombarded with pictures of everyone's perfect life and I'm here to tell you half of it is a load of old phoney! No one captures the moment they had a meltdown in the supermarket or a solo cry in the car or the huge family row or the fact that even surrounded by people; they still felt really alone. Stop comparing your own life to someone else's. Every single one of us is battling our own demons, so just remember that when you think your work mate or best friend is untouched by shittiness.

2. Who gives a shit if you put on a few pounds/half a stone/skip a day or 5 of your shitty diet.

Guys, guys...life is too short. Eat, Drink and be Merry. If you're lucky enough to be able to indulge, go for it! My favourite meal of the entire year is my Christmas dinner and I just love looking over and watching my Mum cry without fail as she looks around the table at us/the food. Gravy. Pigs in Blankets. Baileys. Oh man, it's just amazing, isn't it?!

3. Take time out for yourself.

There can be a big pressure to constantly be "on" and fully engaged with everyone during the festive period. Does anyone else struggle with this? I think the reason I struggle with being in people's company 24/7 is that I have spent so many years being single that I really, really like my own space. Now don't get me wrong, you guys know I'm a bit of a social butterfly but there's actually nothing I like more than being curled up on my sofa, enjoying some "me" time! Make sure you take time out whenever you can be it an extra long bath or a walk to Tesco's to get more booze.

4. If you're single, remember...that's ok and it doesn't make you any less of a person.

I get it. I'm single and have been for mannnny of my 31 years on this planet. I can get a little sad when I look around and see couples getting Christmassy BUT it's important to remember that just because you don't have a significant other; there are still probably a lot of people that think about you and love you. Every year I watch my friends head off to Winter Wonderland with their partners and this year I thought "Fuck it" I'm going with my best mate and you know what; I had THE BEST night ever! Do things YOU want to do, in your own time and enjoy the fact you don't have to visit any problematic in-laws.

5. If you feel alone, there's always someone out there to talk to.

No matter who you are, how popular you seem to others, how many family members you have; peel away that front you put on and you might feel quite lonely. If this is the case, please remember that there are tonnes of people in your position and there are plenty of people/organisations you can reach out to. Some people aren't fortunate to have family members or loved ones and it actually breaks my heart to think of those people. If you're one of those people and you're reading this - please know that I am thinking of you and you matter.

3 Ways to supercharge an all-black outfit.

There's something about an all-black outfit that just says 'Hello, I ooze sophistication, I'm pretty damn trendy yet I've put in minimal effort.'

I think the above is an aesthetic I lean to more often than not. I like to look well put together with an air of, I don't give a f*ck. All-black outfits can be pretty bland if you stick to one fabric type or one trend BUT the real magic of a head to toe black look comes via the attention to detail.

Mix up your fabric types, play around with silhouettes and throw in some fabulous details and you have a recipe for a standout all-black look.

Here are my top tips for turning heads with your jet black look...

1) Wear different fabric types

I remember when I would wear a black jersey pencil skirt (Do you guys know the ones I'm talking about? Approx £7.99 from H&M and I livedddddd in them) black jersey leggings and black jersey tops. Looking back, I'm not sure they were my greatest looks tbh...

Keep things exciting and try pairing different materials like I have in this look. I've got a knit jumper on with cotton sleeves, a leather skirt and mesh/satin high heels. There's a lot going on...but I like it!

2) Play around with silhouettes

Big sleeves, check. Cropped jumper, check. Leather pencil skirt, check. Paper bag waistband, check. Pointed booties, check. I love how the cropped jumper allows the top of the skirt to do all the talking yet the sleeves make sure the jumper also stands out. The balloon shaped sleeves are really current and on trend right now and the tie detail on the cuffs make me one happy bunny!

3) Accessorise

Whether you add a faux fur stole, or statement tassel earrings...there will always be tonnes of black accessories out there to help jazz up an all-black outfit.

I love the mix of vinyl and matte so have a play around with accessories and remember; with black...more is more! Don't forget all the fun you can have playing around with different shoes...I love velvet heels for instance and faux fur cuffs on the end of a fine knit jumper look SO good!

Laser Eye Surgery - What Really Happens.

Just over a week ago, I underwent Laser Eye Surgery with Optical Express. It was a decision I made after much consideration and lots of umming and ahhing.

In the lead up to my surgery, I obviously googled the hell out the procedure (this has its positives and its negatives), lots of people were keen to share stories they'd heard, urban myths regarding the surgery and everyone told me I was super brave for doing it. I was nervous and worried how the day would pan out, how I would react to having my eye "sliced open" and how I would feel afterward.

I'm guessing a lot of people have the same concerns as I did, SO I thought I'd write a post talking you through the entire day, explaining the ins and outs and all the "gory" details they might not tell you in the fancy pamphlets.

*Please note, this post is written from my perspective and details are relevant to my personal experience/ type of surgery I underwent and lifestyle. You will have to discuss your options with your Surgeon and research relevant details regarding Laser Eye Surgery. (I recommend the Optical Express Youtube site for heaps of useful information)

Surgery Preparation

In the lead up to the surgery, depending on the surgery you have, if you are a lenses wearer etc; you will have a few things you need to do to make sure you are ready for the surgery.

Here's what I had to do in the lead up to surgery...

1) I stopped wearing contacts for 10 days prior to surgery - this was difficult as I loved wearing lenses on special occasions and preferred wearing my glasses for day to day life BUT I managed and it made me even more excited about finally getting my eyes "done".

2) I stopped wearing eye makeup for two days before the surgery - this wasn't great if I'm honest with you. I love my eye makeup, hell, I LOVE ALL MAKEUP so it was tricky going cold turkey and having to go to a few events/jobs without my "face on" but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and I wasn't about to go against my Surgeons advice.

3) I made sure I had someone (I obviously chose Mummy V) to come with me on the day so that they could a) hold my hand in the waiting room and b) guide me home afterward. You aren't allowed to drive after your surgery, so bear that in mind. You also have to go back the following day for a check-up, so if you live far from your place of surgery; you might want to consider staying overnight near by. Mummy was my perfect chaperone, and if you're reading this (which I know you are) - thank you, love you xx.

4) Made sure I read EVERYTHING Optical Express gave to me in my little information pack. I wanted to make sure I was totally in the know and I ended up reading everything a million times because my Fibromyalgia makes me anxious and before undergoing things like surgery, the more I know, the more I feel reassured and can focus on looking after myself/keeping my chronic pain to a minimum.

5) This isn't essential BUT it made total sense to me ahaha...I bought myself a new, fabulous pair of cheapo sunglasses (thankfully they are all on sale currently) as they advise you to bring along a pair, as your little old eyes will be feeling sensitive post surgery. *Please note, you dont have to buy new sunnies...I'm just extra and addicted to shopping sooooooo.

6) Do not get your nails done in the run-up to surgery...this includes false nails/nail varnish. You aren't allowed to wear nail varnish for your surgery and I just want to give you a heads up, as it'd be such a waste of money getting fresh nails done and then having to take them off the day before/day of surgery!

The Day of your Procedure.

I was first on the list (I chose to have it done at the Shaftesbury Avenue branch in London) and this meant an early start for Mum and I.

Here's what I had to do on the day of my surgery...

Pre-treatment

1) I had to eat normally before going in and make sure a had a sweet cup of tea to wake me up.

2) I washed my face as normal BUT wasn't allowed to wear any face cream/moisturiser/eye cream. My face felt dry, I'm not going to lie haha.

3) I wore a cotton top and a loose skirt as they advise you to wear comfy clothes and the advise you against wearing sweaters or any materials that are made from loose fibers.

4) I didn't wear any perfume - I actually don't know why I wasn't allowed to but the rules said so, so I followed suit!

5) I made sure we got there in plenty of time. This is something that is obvious but for those of you reading this with chronic pain, it makes sense. More time to chill when you're there, get your thoughts together and have some water/tea whilst you're waiting.

6) I took all my consent documents to reception and signed all the relevant parts. I made sure I had thoroughly read through everything before signing my life away!

7) I underwent some repeat tests in order for them to check my suitability for treatment and to check the treatment I was about to undergo was the right one (there are a few variations of Laser Eye Surgery). These were the same tests I had had in one of my initial consultations and nothing to be scared about. I was then taken back into the waiting room so I could sit with Mum.

8) I met my Surgeon, pre-treatment and this was really, really assuring. He made me feel at ease, we had a little joke around and he settled my nerves. I was able to ask him anything else regarding the surgery and to ~~double~~ triple check a few concerns.

9) I was then shown into the laser suite - where a lovely Nurse explained the procedure to me and prepared my eyes for surgery. The Nurse dropped anesthetic drops into my eyes and this completely numbed my eyes... ready for surgery.

10) I met a Surgical Team Associate - who again, made me feel at ease, reviewed my care notes, eye drops and ensured all my final questions had been answered.

The treatment procedure

1) I was taken into the treatment room - The nurses checked my details (D.O.B etc) ran through the procedure with me and I was able to ask any last minute questions. I was asked to lie down on the treatment bed and my head was lightly secured in a molded rest. My head wasn't clapped to anything, it didn't feel invasive and the only thing that was uncomfortable was having to lie flat on my back with no pillow (again, for people with chronic pain, this is something to factor in)

2) The Surgeon will then place a little clear, eyelid holder over your eye. This is what keeps your eye open and prevents you from blinking. There are no scary clamps, your eyes are very gently held open and it doesn't feel too invasive at all! The natural sensation to blink is almost totally eliminated by the anesthetic drops previously dropped into your eyes.

3) Time for treatment! - I underwent LASIK surgery and here's what happened...
Firstly, they need to produce the "LASIK flap". A little ring is placed on the eye (which helps keep the eye in position) and this is where you feel some pressure. NO PAIN, just pressure. The pressure increases slightly and then your vision appears pretty dark...black I'd say. This happens for about 20 seconds. This part is slightly odd as you know it's light in the room but everything is pretty dark. The pressure increases slightly on the eye and then a little vibration almost, for approx 4-5 seconds. NO PAIN. Your vision then returns and you are able to see a blurry red light. The Surgeon at this point has created the corneal flap. Each eye took approx 12 seconds to laser. An eye tracking system is then activated and this allows the laser to follow even the slightest eye movement during the laser treatment.

You are moved gently to a second laser, called the Excimer Laser and each eye is then treated again approx 10 seconds per eye. During this treatment, the laser produces a loud clicking noise, almost like the noise a taser makes and you also smell some pretty funky smells coming from the machine. These are the gases from the laser I am told.

You are able to breathe normally throughout the entire procedure and the nurse had to keep telling me to do so! Your natural reaction is to hold your breath so it was really reassuring to hear that your breathing isn't compromised.

The surgeon/nurses drip some drops into your eyes, release the ring holding your eye open and you're ready to go to the rest area!

I could tell instantly that I could see BUT your vision is really cloudy, you can see where you're going but things are blurry. I was looking round the room excitedly but I also didnt want to strain my eyes and you are told to rest them immediatly after the treatment so I was keen to do as I was told!

Treatment time - approx 15 mins in total and NO PAIN.

Post treatment

1) You are taken to the rest area ( a dark, quiet room) - time to sit with your eyes closed and time to relax! Mum came to see me and she wanted to know everything that had gone on.

2) You are left to rest for 15-30mins and even though your eyes do not hurt, they do feel slightly irritated and they are definitely light sensitive. You are given goggles to wear and they have dark lenses which make looking around, a lot easier.

3) The Surgeon comes to check on you, checks your eyes with a microscope and checks everything is a-ok. My surgeon put some more anesthetic drops in my eyes and then I went back into the rest area.
A Nurse then came and talked through my aftercare with me, showed me the drops I would need to use for a week after and I was able to ask any final questions. I was told I was not allowed to wear makeup for a week and seeing as I love wearing makeup, I was a little worried how I'd get on cosidering I had a trip to Manchester, gigs, work and social things to attend. I was told I couldn't wash my face for a week and I was told I would have to wear my goggles at night for a week - to stop me from rubbing my eyes in my sleep (no eye rubbing for a week!)

4) You are discharged, given your aftercare leaflets and off Mum and I went! We took a cab home and I sat with my eyes closed, sunnies on, drifting in and out of sleep.

5) Throughout the day - you are advised to keep your eyes closed and you are not able to read, look at the tv, look at your phone, drive etc. As the anesthetic drops wore off, you do notice a slightly gritty feeling in your eyes and they do feel tender. Your vision is blurry like there's a mist over your eyes and I did have a tension headache for the remainder of the day BUT nothing too dramatic and nothing to worry about. Your eyes are also a little bloodshot (my right eye a little more than the left) but this is all totally normal. I took paracetamol throughout the day, my Mum helped me put my drops in and I just lay on the sofa snoozing and listening to the tv.

The Day After

1) I woke - still feeling a little hazy/cloudy but my vision was returning to normal and I could tell that my sight had changed forever! My eyes were a little more bloodshot compared to the previous day but I assume this is just like bruising, it gets worse before it gets better.

2) Time for your Post-Operative Appointment - Shades on (you have to wear your sunglasses/goggles out and about and this is advised as your eyes are super sensitive) and Mum and I headed back to Optical Express. The staff were sooooo friendly, welcomed me back, kept on asking how I was etc and one of the staff checked my eyes, checked my vision and gave me the all clear!

I had to read from a chart which had three lines of letters on. If you can read the first line clearly, you have 20/20 vision and if you can read any of the lines below, you have better than 20/20 vision. I could read all three lines (the last row not so clearly) so, it appears I have better than 20/20 vision! Hurrayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!

I can't quite believe I've had Laser Eye Surgery, to be honest! I know I am pretty extra and love to exaggerate things BUT I do feel like my life has completely changed! Fingers crossed for the better!
