SMRC Wins Silver and Bronze at Secret City Head Race 

Smoky Mountain Rowing Club (SMRC) earned three medals during the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge on Saturday, Oct. 4, including a silver medal in the Mixed 8+ competition with a time of 23:37.0.

The Secret City event marked the first regatta for the SMRC men’s youth crew, who finished third place in the Men’s Youth Novice 8 competition.

SMRC also took third in the Men’s Master 4+ race, fourth in the Women’s Master 8+, fifth in the Women’s Youth Novice 4 and Women’s Youth Novice 8+ and sixth in the Women’s Youth 8. 

SMRC Wins Gold at the Head of the Tennessee

Smoky Mountain Rowing Club (SMRC) won a gold medal in the Women’s Masters Double race during the Head of the Tennessee Regatta in Oak Ridge on Saturday, Oct. 25. Sarah Arms and Chelsea Pemberton earned the top position with a time of 19:48.

Other notable race day results for SMRC and its junior program, the Maryville High School Crew, included third-place finishes in the Mixed 8+ competition, the Men’s Masters 4+, and the Women’s Junior Novice 4+ race.  The Maryville Crew also earned fourth place in the Women’s Junior 8+, Women’s Junior Novice 4+ B, and the Women’s Junior Novice 8+ as well as a sixth-place finish in the Men’s Junior Novice 4+.

The next scheduled regatta for SMRC junior and master crews is the Head of the Chattahoochee on November 1, followed by the Head of the South in Augusta, GA on November 8.

SMRC, MHS Crews Among Thousands of Competitors

Approximately 1,200 boats competed in the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga on Nov. 1 and 2, representing hundreds of rowing clubs, colleges and high school crews from across the country.

Smoky Mountain Rowing Club (SMRC) and the Maryville High School (MHS) Crew competed in nine races during the regatta, which featured 81 events.  In the Women’s Youth 8+ race, MHS finished 12^th out of 36 boats. MHS also finished 12^th in the Women’s Youth Novice 8+, which featured 23 boats. The female crew also earned 10^th and 15^th place in the Women’s Youth Novice 4+ with 26 boats in the line-up, and the Men’s Youth Novice 8+ placed 13^th out of 27.

The next scheduled regatta for SMRC junior and master crews is the Head of the South in Augusta, GA on November 8. This event will wrap up the racing season for SMRC and the MHS Crew.

MHS Wins Silver and Bronze Medals

The Maryville High School Crew wrapped up a winning season at the Head of the South Regatta in Augusta, GA on Nov. 8.

MHS won a silver medal in the Women’s Junior 8+ race with a time of 17:50.22 and a bronze medal in the Mixed Open 8+, edging out a crew from Clemson University Rowing Association. The MHS Crew also placed fourth in the Mixed Junior 8+ competition with a time of 18:41.97.
