Help Needed:
1. A friend of someone in our church lost his house to fire early Monday morning. He pastors a small group of
poor folks in this county. He has 10 kids. Everyone got out safely and there are no injuries, but now they are homeless and have no possessions. The Red Cross has fixed him up with lodging and food for a couple of days or more. We are not sure what will happen after that and neither is he according to his daughter. They can use gift cards (since they have no place to put items right now) and housing ideas and help.

2. A family needs $400 for their rent for May.

3. Someone in our church needs $78 for their utility bill.

4. A friend in the community needs a bike to get to and from work. He doesn’t have other transportation.

Needs Met:
1. We helped a family in our church with groceries this month.

The last Sunday of every month is “Finish Line Sunday”.  Every class reviews the lessons that they have learned for the entire month.  Andeach student is encouraged to recite their Scripture Memory Verses for the month.  When the kidsrecite their memory verse, they receive lots of high fives and yummy candy (smarties).  Parents, help your kids commit these verses to memory all month long.  We highly value the practice of hiding God’s word in your heart.

Each of our classes have a weekly take-home sheet that you can do as a family throughout the week.  It includes what we are learning on Sundays as well as ideas on how you can study even more as a family.  It also includes the Monthly Scripture Memory verse for each class.

May 2012 Scripture Memory Verses:

Pathfinders Class (ages 3-4)

Psalm 139:14, “I praise You because You made me wonderful!”

Voyagers Class (ages 5-2nd grade)

John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Explorers Class (ages 3rd-5th grade)

Mark 12:30, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

Students finishing 5th grade are invited to join youth group this summer. We are having a cookout Sunday May 27th from 5 to 7 at Pastor Aaron and Sharon’s house. We have a lot of activities planned for the summer plus our weekly meetings on Sunday night from 6:30 to 8. Contact cory@maryvillevineyard.com if you have any questions. Sunday morning Kids Church will remain the same for the rest of the grades until the first week in August.

It’s our kick off to summer break! Join us Sunday May 27th at Pastor Aaron and Sharon’s house from 5 to 7 for burgers, dogs, and games. All students going into the 6th grade next fall to up coming Seniors are welcome. So if you have been thinking about coming to youth group, now is a great time.

Support Vineyard artists at Maryville’s Last Friday Artwalk on May 25 from 5-9pm. Our artists are hosting a show called “Disarrangement” at the old Habitat store at 212 S College Street.

We’ll have refreshments, live DJ, and of course some outstanding artwork. Hope to see you there!

Hey parents!! It’s not too late to register for Camp Vineyard 2012. We have 18 registered  and I would love to add to this number. Camp provides a great opportunity to meet new friends and build a close bond with those who are already in your youth group. To culminate our 40-day Easter celebration, Maryville Vineyard Church is hosting a special Ascension Thursday worship service on May 17 from 7:00-8:00pm. Childcare will be provided for kids ages 0-4.

Can you imagine the scene?

Jesus had just delivered his final instructions:

“Go and make disciples…”

Then he ascended out of sight. The Apostles just stood there slackjawed, staring into the clouds that obstructed their view of the Christ. Straining for just one more glimpse. Wondering if they could believe what they had just seen. Hoping he wasn’t really gone.

And then, a heavenly reminder:

“Why do you stand here looking into the sky?”

And so their gaze lowered back to earth. Those first few steps away from the last footprints Jesus left must’ve been lonely. But it wasn’t long before the disciples realized that Jesus had not left them alone.
