Synopsis

Logan McCutcheon returns to colonial Virginia after seven years in the hands of Shawnee Indians. But was he really a captive, as everybody thinks? He looks and fights like a warrior, and seems eager to return to those he calls friends and family.

Kira McClure has waited for Logan all those years, passing herself off as odd to keep suitors at bay––and anyone else from getting too close. Now that he's back, he seems to be the only person capable of protecting her from the advances of Josiah Campbell and accusations of witchcraft. And to defend the settlers against a well-organized band of murderous thieves.

Excerpt

He threw back his head and laughed.

Disconcerting. Most people simply stared at her or shook their heads when she acted peculiar, not this undisguised mirth. “I can’t imagine why you’re taking on like this.”

“No?” He succumbed to another paroxysm of laughter. “I must admit you’re good.”

A lift of her chin. “At what, pray tell?”

“Play acting.”

Stiffening her reply, she said, “I haven’t the faintest notion what you mean.”

He wiped his eyes on the wide sleeve of his loosely belted shirt. “Haven’t you, now?”

Her eyes strayed to his browned chest where the earth-colored cloth gapped open at his neck. “Not at all.”

“If you truly wish me to think you tetched, dim the brightness in your gaze. Try for a more vacant expression.”

“I can manage quite well without direction from you. “ She hesitated. “I mean––”

"I know what you mean. I see you’re quite the actress.”

Shifting her gaze from the intensity in his expression to the swaying branches, she asked, “How so?”

“I could always see right through you.”

An odd flop in her stomach and she slid her gaze back to his penetrating eyes. “Always? “

“Don’t you know me, Cricket?”

“Good heavens,” she breathed out, and leaned weakly against the tree. She could have toppled to the forest floor. Only two people had ever called her by that name and this definitely wasn’t her brother. The teasing youth she’d adored had returned a man in warrior’s clothing, hardened now, tested by wind and fire. “Logan?"

What's this book about?

When soap opera star Abby Langford leaves Los Angeles for her Minnesota hometown, she’s hoping to give her nine-year-old daughter the peaceful childhood she never knew. But instead of tranquility, Abby finds an old knife hidden between the walls of her new house. Then the nightmares start: a blood-soaked victim and a killer’s arm slicing through the air, again and again.

Abby wonders if she’s having the nervous breakdown the tabloids claim she already had, especially when sexy, skeptical police chief Josh Kincaid questions her story. When menacing hate mail arrives, Josh’s professional concern for Abby soon evolves into an intense attraction, and the feeling is mutual. And now Josh wonders if her psychic visions are of crimes past—or a premonition of terrors to come.

To survive, Abby and Josh must uncover the truth and stop a killer . . . before Abby’s worst nightmares come true.

You could win...

The author will be awarding one $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour, and one $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn host. So, leave a comment.

An Excerpt

Abby rolled back the carpet, exposing the stain. “What do you think? Is this blood or just paint?”

Josh squatted beside the stain and studied it for several seconds, scratching it with his fingernail. Then he rolled the carpet back over the stain and stood. “Have you ripped up the carpet in the rest of the bedrooms?”

“I started here. This carpet’s the ugliest,” Abby said. “I also spend a lot of time writing in here.” None of that was a lie.

He nodded slowly. “So yesterday you pulled out a door, vacuumed behind it, and found a knife flecked with what could be blood. Then this morning you decide to rip up the carpet in one bedroom and coincidentally find more blood?”

It did sound a little fantastic, but Abby certainly wasn’t telling him about the dream. “You think I dumped it there myself?”

“Makes it seem more like you’ve got a mystery in your own house, doesn’t it? It looks like paint to me, but I guess it could be real blood. I’m sure it’s easy to buy the stuff in LA.”

She threw up her hands. “Do you honestly think I brought blood out here with me? Just stuck it in a carton with my dishes and had the movers load it up?”

“Or you could have ordered it on the Internet.”

“Or stolen it from the Red Cross. Look, I didn’t pretend to find the knife for publicity, and I didn’t plant this stain for publicity. I told you, I don’t want any more publicity.”

When Josh didn’t respond, Abby massaged her temples and concentrated on taking calming breaths. If she’d been able to hold her tongue the entire six weeks Vanessa Mason had guest starred on Private Affairs, she could do it now. “I was simply trying to do my civic duty by reporting it.”

“Next time don’t bother.”

Author Bio

When she was eight, Diana Miller decided she wanted to be Nancy Drew. But no matter how many garbage cans she dug through, conversations she “accidentally” overheard, and attics she searched, she never found a single cryptic letter, hidden staircase, or anything else even remotely mysterious. She worked as a lawyer, a soda jerk, a stay-at-home mom, a hospital admitting clerk, and a conference host before deciding that the best way to inject suspense into her otherwise satisfying life was by writing about it.

Diana is a five-time nominee for the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award and winner of a Golden Heart for Dangerous Affairs—a romantic suspense novel that shows not everyone in her home state is Minnesota Nice. She lives in the Twin Cities with her family.

Synopsis

Forgiving yourself is the first step, but helping others forgive may be just too hard.

Rachel Cullen grew up in Scotland with a fiddle in her hand from the age of four. She couldn't imagine life as anything but a musician. When her husband brought her to America she was immediately embraced by the Celtic and Bluegrass communities. But after her divorce, Rachel's life is a mess.

A year of trying to prove to herself that she's woman enough for any man, and then a vicious rape while on tour with the band, leaves Rachel reeling. When she meets Noel Kershaw, an English teacher who is poetry in motion, she is definitely attracted. But he has a young child and he's suffering from his own divorce. The last thing Rachel needs in life is more baggage.

First, Rachel must reconcile who she is, what she wants, and how to get there. Maybe then she'll know how to be a part of the family she's always wanted.

Excerpt

Claire crawled onto a stool on the other side of the island and smiled. Neither of them talked for several minutes as they listened to the water in the pot heat.

“When I grow up, I’m going to play with Sweetwater Canyon all the time.”

“Are you sure you want to hang out with all us old folks?”

“You’re not all old. Well maybe a little old. But Kat isn’t old.”

Rachel smiled. “That’s true. She’s only seventeen.” And going on twenty-five it seemed sometimes.

“Oh, seventeen? That is old.” Claire put a finger to her lips and furrowed her brow. “How old do I have to be to play in the band all the time?”

“Probably at least eighteen.”

“But, you just said Kat—”

“Kat is different, because her mother plays in the band and can watch her all the time.”

“Well, you can watch me all the time. You can be my mother.”

Rachel gulped.

“Well, can’t you?”

“Can’t she what?” Noel walked in the room and lifted Claire off the chair in a big hug, swinging her around the room. “Can’t she what? She can do anything she wants.”

“See,” Claire leaned forward and looked at Rachel over Noel’s shoulder. “See, even Daddy thinks you can be my mother.”

“Whoa.” Noel set Claire back on the stool. “I’m not sure what I walked in on here.” He sent an accusing glance to Rachel. “You already have a mother, Claire.”

“I know. Not my real mother. My second mother. You know, like my friend, Megan. Her mommy and daddy got divorced and her daddy married a new mommy. So, Megan has two mommies now. See? Rachel can be my second mommy. Okay?”

Maggie Jaimeson writes romantic women’s fiction and romantic suspense with a near future twist. …love reading scary books…this story freaked me out!

And I thought my life was hell... It's got nothing on Lucy Stone's. I could not put this book down. It has great characters, crazy twists and one hell of an ending! (Pun fully intended) The only problem I have is waiting until 2013 for the next one! A Must Read.

~|~

Lucy is a likable character, spunky and self-sufficient, without suffering from the angst of some of the older teen protagonists we see. Her counterpart Peter makes a willing sidekick happy to scrutinize the magical stone she caries and track down the portals they must use to save Mikey. Jade Stone, his sister makes a perfect villain with her mean girl attitude and penchant for torturing Lucy. Overall, the characters are solid and help move the story along.

Synopsis

A criminal defense attorney is retained to represent a man accused of accessory to murder--a cold-blooded shooting. The client's family has risked everything to come up with the money for a retainer. The evidence seems damning. Nonetheless, the lawyer becomes convinced that his client is not guilty and sets out to prove his innocence at trial. The prosecutor, an ambitious and beautiful young woman in the Office of the District Attorney, presents the lead detective as her key witness. The lawyer puts his client on the stand to testify. The courtroom is charged with action and suspense. Is there justice? The ending of the story compels a shocking answer.

Ralph Shamas was born and raised in New Mexico. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1973, and first represented a citizen accused in that same year. Over the course of a 32 year career as a lawyer, he handled hundreds of cases, including several in which his clients were charged with murder and even capital murder. He was given the highest peer rating which can be awarded to a lawyer and was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.

Judge Shamas was appointed to the District Court by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson in 2005, and has since presided over scores of criminal trials. His experience in the mysteries of the law, and in participating in literally hundreds of trials, has thus passed through four decades. Judge Shamas uses that experience as his guide in portraying fascinating characters in an intriguing drama.

Check out Spencer's Face by @AutumnB17139070 — Contemporary Romance

Synopsis: Taylor is a popular cheerleader at Buckeye Union High, who has had a few boyfriends, even though she has yet to find her perfect guy.

Spencer is a boy with a huge birthmark covering one side of his face. He plays football, but tries to stay out of the limelight to hide his face. He's shunned by most of the girls at Buckeye Union High.

Luckily Taylor isn't like most girls. She sees Spencer for who he is inside. Can he be her perfect guy, even with his imperfections? She falls for him deeper than she's ever fallen for anyone. Convincing a shy, insecure Spencer that he's the boy of her dreams isn't going to be easy.

This is an emotion-packed, high school story of two teens discovering true love for the first time. This story is sexually explicit, describing sex in detail, intended for a mature audience.

"This is a very light and fun read about two high school students who fall in love. Even though my high school days are long gone, this book really took me back to my youth. The first sexual experiences between the couple felt very realistic to me. I also found it refreshing that the male protagonist is physically "imperfect" - with a a birth mark on his face. Most men in romance novels tend to be model-perfect, which gets old after awhile."

"I liked this story, it showed that not all teenagers are of the same mindset."

I live with my husband of 21 years. Our blended family of three daughters have grown and left the nest, leaving me with the extra time that has eluded me for years. For years, I have lived with characters and stories dancing in my head, but never really had the time to develop them. Now, with this precious, wonderful time that I have vowed not to take for granted, I have at last been able to let those characters live and breathe. I only pray that readers get to know them and love them as much as I have. I write teen romances, and adult romances. Some days I feel young, and some days I feel older (a little older any way). My books most often have heroines that ride motorcycles, and drive fast cars. There's a little of the real-life me in there. I hope you enjoy my books.

Synopsis: This is a scenario of the impact of an Obama second term on the media. It introduces the stress of a progressive rule on free speech and popular personalties of Fox programs.

Excerpt

By the beginning of 2016, the American people will have lost two major freedoms that are considered essential to a free society - the freedom of speech and freedom of religious expression.

Many will consider this mere speculation but it is not. Is in fact a result of the process of futuring, the same kind of futuring that enterprises from the largest corporations to economic think tanks to government entities use in order to get some kind of an idea of the future coming at us in these uncertain times. Of course no one can predict the future with certainty; futuring attempts to get the best reasoned forecast using methodologies borrowed from many fields of study in both the sciences and non-science fields such as art and design. The following is a technique of futuring called a scenario. A scenario is one of the tools of modern futuring that helps us imagine a path, to put flesh and bones in a story from the present to the future. It’s like a screenplay with real characters like Obama, Pelosi, Boehner, Romney and events like elections and the aftermath.

Futuring the Broadcasting Sector. A New Aggressive Agency.

Far more aggressive measures will be launched by both FCC and through a rather new innovation in agency control devised by the administration under the guise of "consumer protection." They will start to act at the beginning of 2013 and will become full blown by 2015.

When Obama and company came to Washington in 2009, they began what was a longstanding progressive dream- to curtail freedom of the press. It’s certainly true that other White House administrations had their problems with news organizations, but in the case of the Obama progressives it was different. They threatened the very existence of critical public expression, and the insidious strategy to bring Fox down will go a long way to accomplishing that.

Violation of broadcasting standards such as depriving community non-profits and minority groups of broadcast expression will incur criminal penalties. Hearings and trials will result. The big names of the Fox era will be happy to run from the media in exchange for whatever liberty they may enjoy in Obama Two.
The folks, as we’ll see, will shortly be looking out for themselves.

Fox Demise.

By Nov 2014, Fox will be a much changed entity. By January 2015, the former cable news source for millions will be virtually unrecognizeable.

In the United States, by the end of 2015, there will be no major organization critical of progressive agenda.

Synopsis: With more and more screenwriters attempting to beat the odds with their breakthrough screenplays and competition being at an all-time high, there is a dynamic need for more creative and lucrative ways to penetrate an almost impossible and tough business.

Enter "Publish Your Screenplay on Kindle."

This insightful book offers advice on how screenwriters can step out of the box of standard-procedure query letters and the "we don't accept unsolicited scripts" abyss, and make a name for themselves by publishing their work on Kindle.

"Publish Your Screenplay on Kindle" is for talented screenwriters who truly believe in their vision and voice and refuse to allow their works-of-art to die inside their computers, while waiting for Hollywood to come knocking.

Excerpt

In this day and age, screenwriting hopefuls are eager for different paths, which will allow them to be recognized for their hard work and talent and maybe even be discovered. And earning a little money doesn’t hurt either. With a limited number of movies produced every year, the majority of these screenwriters will probably never be discovered and are totally at the mercy of the Hollywood system, waiting for their big break. Not everyone is lucky enough to obtain a movie deal or sell a script, but Every Screenwriter can be published on Kindle.

The Emily Stone Series

Written by Jennifer Chase

Synopsis: A Serial Killer Plagues an Island Paradise

Vigilante detective Emily Stone continues her covert pursuits to find serial killers and child abductors, all under the radar while shadowing police investigations.

Emily searches for an abducted nine-year-old girl taken by ruthless and enterprising slave brokers. Following the clues from California to the garden island of Kauai, she begins to piece together the evidence and ventures deep into the jungle.

It doesn’t take long before Emily is thrown into the middle of murder, mayhem, and conspiracy. Locals aren’t talking as a serial killer now stalks the island, taking women in a brutal frenzy of ancient superstitions and folklore. Local cops are unprepared for what lies ahead. In a race against the clock, Emily and her team must identify the killer before time runs out.

“Author Jennifer Chase takes the reader into the world of black magic, sorcery, child porn, murder and the Dark Mind of a serial killer with an ending you just won’t see coming with a final twist that let’s you know that there is much more in store for Emily and Rick. Where the next case leads them only author Jennifer Chase knows and we all hope to find out soon." -Fran Lewis, Book Pleasures

“Okay, think HAWAII FIVE-O meets CRIMINAL MINDS, meets CSI. Sort of. Only much, much better because this author captivates and charms the reader with her many impressive writing skills—particularly for setting the scenes. And even as she engages the reader with vividly descriptive sights, smells and feel of the enchanting island of Kauai in Hawaii, she ratchets up terror, tension and suspense. Immediately, she hooked me by placing me into the tense atmosphere of an interrogation room—engaging all my senses with great sensory images. And then she follows up with a horrific captive scenario, some nasty crime scenes, nail-biting confrontations and plenty of well-researched police procedural action plus a corker of a plot that kept me guessing; just what I love in a crime fiction thriller. And the short chapters keep things hopping. I like that, too. I was definitely captured and seduced by the prose—very well done, and with thorough research into Hawaiian culture." -Highly Recommended by reviewer: Jan Evan Whitford, Allbooks Reviews

Whisper of a Witch

by Suza Kates

Synopsis: Biologist Shauni Miller, a beautiful as she is compassionate, harbors a secret that could alter her life forever. If she chooses to share it. Dr. Michael Black helps Shauni in her time of need, but sees more in the raven-haired temptress than she ever meant to reveal. He knows she’s hiding something, but then, so is he. Both Shauni and Michael have a role to play and decisions to make as a centuries-old prophecy has yet to be fulfilled. Only the fates know if they are meant to be together. Or if one of them has to die.

Excerpt

“Oh, no you don’t,” she said with a shake of her finger. “I’m not being derailed again.”

“What?” His gaze lingered on her shoulders and the curve of her neck. He wasn’t halfway finished with her, yet. “Yeah. You were going to tell me something.”

“Now you’re catching on. And you were going to tell me how you found me out in those woods.” She looked at the large, golden lump of dog snoring in the foyer. “And don’t tell me it was all him.”

Michael felt his previous mellow aura zipping up tight. She’d relaxed him to the point of pre-catatonia then after one look at her, he’d been aroused again and gunning for round two.

Now he felt neither level of satisfaction. He was back to agonizing over how she would react to his dirty little secret. Hell, she might consider it a breach of privacy, the way he perceived what people were feeling, especially his ability to tune in to her so well. It was like he had a direct line to channel Shauni. All day. All night.

So he did what any fearless man would do. “You go first.”

Suza Kates can’t remember a time when she didn’t love books, but two particular memories stay with her. “As a young girl I picked up Little Women, read it straight through, and promptly turned to page one to start all over again. The next book I did that with was Mind Hunter by John Douglas, tales about profiling serial killers.”

Thus a twisted romantic was born.

Throughout her teenage and young adult years, she read everything from horror to historical romance yet never imagined writing anything of her own.

It was during a long, cold winter in a tiny apartment in Germany that Suza picked up a pen and notebook to entertain herself. “The apartment was so tiny, my bed also served as my living room couch. Plus, I shared it with three cats.”

Missing the warmth, the hospitality, and the food of the South, she wrote about those things with a huge dose of family thrown in. She says she still has a sweet spot in her heart for her first book, Southern Moon, but to date, she hasn’t revisited it for submission to her publisher.

Suza followed her heart to Savannah, Georgia, and it was the gorgeous city with its moss-covered oaks and secrets of history that inspired her to consider paranormal romance. “I had an idea about sisters and magic, so I went to work on the first book of The Savannah Coven Series, Whisper of a Witch. The series is still going strong, and I am grateful every day that I took a chance on paranormal romance, a genre I wasn’t very familiar with and had never actually read before writing it.”

Suza has since joined RWA and can’t say enough about this organization. “The education and support are unparalleled. I am so grateful to all of my fellow writers who have offered advice.”

Suza still resides in Savannah and is currently working on her next book. She considers it a perfect day when she can sit at the keyboard with coffee in her cup and one of her cats purring in her lap.

The Homicide Chronicle

Defending the Citizen Accused

Written by Ralph Shamas

Synopsis: The brutal murder of a young woman in a small Arizona border town leads to a trial distinguished by unexplained evidence and chilling surprise. The Homicide Chronicle will take you through an investigation and jury trial like no other. The murder weapon, bloody clothing, candle wax, blood splatter, and other evidence from the crime scene, when analyzed and then presented to a jury, compel a frightening dilemma and true suspense.

Written by a jurist who represented hundreds of clients in criminal cases over the course of more than 30 years practicing law, and who now presides over dozens of criminal trials every year as a District Judge, the story will graphically expose the many conflicts and emotions which beset those lawyers who are called upon to defend the citizen accused. Ultimately, the absorbing conclusion will confirm that the pursuit of truth and justice is often complicated and unpredictable.

Reviews

"I've always wondered how an attorney can defend a client accused of a horrifying crime and still maintain a clear conscience. We all feel certain that our moral compass will always lead us down the right path, but what do you do when that faith is shaken?"

"I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what happened next. And I will never forget the ending."

"The novel is full of interesting twists and turns that keep you involved. You mustn't cheat and look at the ending. It ties the story together perfectly but it will make you gasp. This is an excellent read and I can't wait for the author's next work."

Reviews

"This book is beyond refreshing - a great story about kids who still play outside, know people in their town and have an adventure that makes a difference in their lives."

"This is a charming story about a time and place that may no longer exist. The author seems to draw not only from his vivid imagination but from memories of a small town where people proudly stood up to help one another."

"It's perfect for preteens and younger children alike and gives them a valuable life lesson."

Maggie's Fall

By Ricki Wilson

Genre: Contemporary Western

Synopsis: Maggie McClellan lived the best of two worlds: her corporate profession as a PR director for a world renowned boot maker, and her frequent escapes to the serenity of the West Texas ranch where she was raised - until her parents were killed in a car wreck. Selling the ranch seemed the obvious choice, but when Maggie learned that she was pregnant, she could not imagine raising her child anywhere but on the M-Bar Ranch.

Ten years later, Maggie is back on her feet, but someone is threatening to take it all away. Maggie is not just fighting to save a ranch, she is fighting to save a home, a way of life, and not just for herself, but for her son and the makeshift family who has stood beside her through all storms.

Maggie is that literary character whom readers cheer for. Taking little and giving all, Maggie's story inspires hope and reminds us of the sheer satisfaction of just following through, of fighting a battle to its final outcome, when, win or lose, we can know that we put up the good fight.

Synopsis: At 3.10pm every weekday, parents gather at Featherstone Primary in Denbury to collect their children.

For a special few, the friendships forged at the school gates will see them through lives filled with drama, secrets and sorrows. Ex Czech au-pair Earth Mummy Dana finds happiness in her secret sideline, but really all she longs for is another child. Slummy Mummy Mo's wife-beating husband leads her down a path she never thought possible, and Supper Mummy Joan has to cope when life deals her a devastating blow.

During my 'travels' as a writer, as a follower of mythical marvels, a dreamer who shapes words, and a believer in making dreams come true, I have met unicorns.

I met them long ago, when I was a girl... a girl whom animals followed through the streets, who sat under shady trees and talked to the ethers, sending out her thoughts in happy, floating imaginings; who deliberately touched trees as she passed them and climbed rocky, red soiled and sun-struck hills, barefoot. A girl who cradled her pet chicken for hours at a time, stroking the red feathers and telling her things about the magical ministries of nature and fairies, which chickens must already know as they scratch in the yard and roll in the dirt after a day of dozing in the sun.

There was so much to understand and learn about places unseen - hidden places - places where beauty unravelled as naturally as a mountain stream, where waterfalls of galloping horses would masquerade as drops of water, vibrating with essences invisible to the mortal eye. Hanging fig trees with grand canopies hid the music-halls of fairies and, in the tumbling sun-slants of thick forest undergrowth, there walked elves and their consorts, stately beings with watchful eyes.

Humans played no part in these places; they were the scratch that soured the day; muttering and grumbling about the inconvenience of passing thunder storms, moaning about the things they needed or didn't need, telling a small child what she could, and could not do.

But I knew something then which I lost for a while, and yet, in the blink of an eye, in later life, reclaimed.

I knew that if I closed my eyes and drifted with morning mists or walked barefoot in streams or on dew, if I held a cricket in my hand and listened to its chirp - all the time my eyes shut tight - then suddenly, when the moment chose, the whole world would entangle in a web of perfect silence and, in that moment, it would happen. A brush upon my brow or on my bare-skinned arm and the sigh of a gentle breath… the softest most intangible fleeting gossamer touch would send tingles up my spine. And I knew, I knew for certain, that I had felt the unicorn's kiss.

‘What is that?’ you ask, almost believing me. Well, I will tell you this: A unicorn's kiss is the brush of their forelock or mane upon those lucky humans still unsullied by the mortal world - a child of pure heart – and the merest sensation of their breath accompanies the stroke of their silken touch. Yet in the second that you open your eyes to catch a glimpse, there may only be one thing which, captive in your mortal shell, you may or may not hear - the swish of a step as they leave.

It's rarer now. Even for the pure of heart, the earth is filled with noise and harsh battering. Fences patch the planet far and wide and trees and forests dwindle from man’s harsh hand, whilst the gentle spirits that care for them are fleeing, eradicated by terror from the human smell and touch.

However, there is still a unicorn forest. It is the last place that immortality reigns and can be shown to us in our frail human lifespan. But I cannot tell you where that is ... for you must find it for yourself.

'Be careful where you tread
On a misty winter’s night
For stories tell of things we dread
But they may not be right
Be careful where you tip-toe
On a morning kissed with spring
For you may see the unicorn
As she stops to breathe dew in
Be careful where you stand and sing
Should you do so near a mountain stream
For you may lose your heart my friend
To the mysteries of a dream…’ © ‘UnicornKisses’

ILLUMINATE-ALIVE, SHE CRIED

By Jamie Haden

Synopsis: Some say the concept of rebirth is simply a metaphor for living a better life, a holier life. For seventeen-year old Talisa Santiago, such a resurrection is anything but a metaphor. It is her reality.

Talisa knows she can communicate with the spiritual world. She is the granddaughter of a shaman and going between two different worldly dimensions is something she realizes she is destined to do. However, what she doesn’t count on is what fate has in store for her.

After surviving the first hurricane of the season on the island where she lives, Talisa learns that her life is in grave danger. She must leave immediately and retreat to live with a secretive clan of Indians on a remote reservation deep within the Great Smokey Mountains.

Her blood brothers, three shifters who have the desires of both man and animal surround her, promising everlasting friendship and protection. Now, Talisa will put her life in their hands, depart from her mother, and begin the journey of a lifetime. However, the majestic mountains hold many secrets and danger lurks in the night. There are evil tricksters everywhere that want her dead. As Talisa falls prey to the confusion of her own sexuality, she unleashes an untamed passion that may get them all killed.

Who is Talisa Santiago?

This is never an easy question to answer because who we are changes, sometimes on a daily basis. It is often customary to hear a person say, "I'm not the same as I was back then," or "I'm different now." Although this may be the case, what I have come to learn is, our thoughts about ourselves, and our thoughts towards others, can certainly change, yet, in the end, our essence remains true. That is what I tap into, to fully understand and appreciate Talisa. I had to get her essence.

Just as the spirit of the soul lies hidden, so were the secrets of Talisa's childhood. She was born in the Mexican desert, the granddaughter of a shaman, yet she fled with her mother at the age of seven and escaped to America in hopes of finding a new, safer life. In an attempt to shield her daughter from her past, Talisa's mother refused to speak of their history in the desert, her ancestry, and all things Native American. Only bits and pieces remained in the young girl's memory. Horrific as well as enchanting recollections consumed her, but dissolved through time with no explanation. Life proved to be difficult, and Talisa found herself isolated and alone.

She was different from other kids.

Indeed, the very core of her being separated her most because she was born, not just the granddaughter of a shaman, but with a direct connection to the spirit worlds. Even though some would argue her gifts were hereditary, it would still prove to be a long and arduous crossing simply because her childhood, where she came from, was a mystery.

Nevertheless, the obscurity of it all was enticing. It kept Talisa lost, yet hoping, wondering, if maybe one day, she would be found.

From the very beginning, when I first began to think about Talisa, I knew I wanted a strong female protagonist. Not necessarily physically powerful, although I do appreciate the girl who can kick some serious butt, I am talking internally so, awakened. Such a state of being in a seventeen year old is rare, a treasure to be adored.

This was also an end. A place Talisa had to get to, after she walked a very long and winding road, for the desire to become aware of our inner selves is a journey most of us inevitably take at some stage of life.

To fulfill this goal, this end, I wanted to develop the character of a girl who wasn't consumed with materialism. I envisioned a world of seclusion—first a barrier island of the coast of North Carolina, and then, a remote Indian reservation deep within the Great Smokey Mountains. Yet, throughout it all, Talisa, as well as all the other characters, had to be relatable. They had to go through being teenagers, the hell of it all; they had to be real.

Ultimately, Talisa would have great burdens to bear, feel tremendous heartache, go against all odds, fall, be betrayed, betray, and face the dark night of her soul. There was no other way around it. She had to lose it all in order to know what losing it all felt like; then and only then would she be able to rise.

In the end, I admire the person who can honestly say they live with no regrets, because the choices they made, even the ones they regret, made them stronger in the end. They are the ones who transform through change. By living in the present, they aren't captive to the past. They reclaim their spirit and inspire others. People such as this are worth writing for, and that is Talisa.

One Major Mistake

By Starr Gardineier Reina

Genre: Suspense

Synopsis: Despite having brought down two major crime families, Pavel’s life is still filled with problems. The two bright things in his world: Teresa Mancini, his fiancée, who, on a good day, has the ability to bring him to his knees and his daughter Rita Grace, a result of a whirlwind affair before he fell in love with Teresa.

Once again, murder is the prime evil propelling Pavel into his latest case. After the murder of his partner and friend Nick Haxton’s ex-wife Brenda, Pavel leads a team to dethrone Guillermo Diaz, the leader of a drug gang believed to be responsible for Brenda’s death. Detective Danni Stone joins the local agency. Stone knows Diaz on the most intimate of levels, and wants to be present at his demise.

During the investigations, not only does the team grieve with Nick over Brenda’s death, they also deal with the loss of their long-time Assistant Director in Charge Steven Lazlo, who was gunned down in their own backyard. Pavel has a particularly hard time dealing with Lazlo’s death and is determined to hold everyone involved responsible.

As if Pavel can take anymore, Teresa receives a substantially large check from an anonymous benefactor, and insists that Pavel deal with it while she decides how to spend it. But not before she uses her iron-willed determination to find out who the benefactor is even if it means breaking into her attorney’s office looking for answers. Being thrown in jail would stop any ordinary woman, but apparently not Teresa.

Join Pavel as he wades through harrowing situations, suspects aplenty and suspense in this third thrilling installment of the Ivanovich Series.

Definition of an Empty Net: When a team pulls the goalie for an extra attacker, desperately seeking a goal.

Audrey Parker was in a horrible place. She hated her job, her sister was getting married and moving out, but worst of all, she was in love with a total jerk. No matter what she did, every guy she met hurt her. All she wanted was her happily ever after. Her Prince Charming. Her Lucas Brooks! She didn’t know how to change her life but she knew she needed too.Feeling like she was about to hit rock bottom, Audrey wakes up next to Tate Odder.

Tate Odder had lost everything. After being brought up from the Assassins’ farm team, the Florida Rays to the Nashville Assassins, Tate hopes he’ll forget everything he has lost. He doesn’t. Each day gets harder to live in a place he doesn’t know. Even being the first rookie goalie to shut out an opposing team three times during the Lord Stanly Cup Finals, he still felt empty. With the loss of his parents and sister still heavy on his heart, Tate isn’t sure how to live like everything is okay.

But when he wakes up beside Audrey Parker, things start to change. She turns his life upside down with her kooky sense of humor and her bright clothing. She is intelligent and beautiful, and for once, he doesn’t feel empty. Will Audrey be the person to fill the holes in Tate’s heart, making him whole again? Or will another player ruin everything, leaving him feeling forever like an empty net?

I am a wife, mother, and hopeless romantic.

I have been told I have anger issues, but I think it’s cause of my intense love for hockey!

I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!

When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughters dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, and reading the latest romance novel.

I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, and did I mention I love hockey?

Synopsis: It’s the last day of the summer holiday in The Hague when Leah Koopmans’s carefree life as a teen is brutally flipped upside down. Her pale skin turns a dazzling gold, her senses heighten, and her muscles possess an uncanny strength. But with these exhilarating new powers comes a thirst that can only be quenched by one thing: human blood.

While her body craves for fresh victims and her heart drowns in guilt, she meets inhumanly handsome Max Machiavelli, who claims that Leah is immortal like him. Infatuation ignites into blistering passion when she joins his coven in Amsterdam. But as the mysteries shrouding her sudden change to immortality unravel, Leah quickly learns that her aversion to taking life isn’t the only thing that sets her apart from this group of herculean strangers.

From the picturesque canals of Amsterdam to Corsica’s limestone cliffs and the untamed Siberian wilderness; from first loves to fierce battles, The Fire of Dawn is an extraordinary tale packed with romance, betrayal, and bloodsucking suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very last page.

Author Bio

V.V. Aku has always believed in beautiful stories. She found the man of her dreams and her way in complex China, and wrote a fairytale of her own: The Fire of Dawn－a scintillating tale about strength, self-discovery, and a girl who dared to follow her heart.

Born and raised in The Netherlands, V.V. Aku (Veerle Ackerstaff) soon discovered that the world was a place worth exploring. After graduating high school, she set out to travel the globe until she finally touched down in China. On the border of Tibet she met Anzi Aku, a wild Black-Yi man who lives at the foot of the Himalayas. She has joined his clan and tries to find her place among the tribe and its shamans. When she’s not researching the clan’s mythology on vampires, she shamelessly gives in to the compulsion to write about the countless characters that haunt her dreams.

V.V. Aku is the author of The Fire of Dawn and Black Dusk. She has been the creator of stories since the age of three, and has a Post-Graduate Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults from The University of Cambridge ESOL. After nearly a decade of working as an English language teacher and TEFL trainer in China, Thailand, The Netherlands, and the UK, she now devotes all her time to writing, her family, and practicing Kung Fu. The Fire of Dawn is her debut novel.

Author: Christina Tetreault

Genre: Romance

Synopsis: Callie Taylor's life is turned upside down when she learns the truth about her birth following the death of her mother. Not only is her father alive, but he's none other than presidential candidate Senator Warren Sherbrooke.

Billionaire and confirmed bachelor, Dylan Talbot, is devoted to his family. When his stepfather Warren Sherbrooke receives a letter from a past love telling him they have a daughter together, Dylan is instantly suspicious. In order to keep the media vultures away and protect Warren's political aspirations, Dylan convinces Warren to let him handle the situation.

As Callie and Dylan spend time together, they can't resist the feelings that blossom between them. However, when Callie learns the real reason he has been spending time with her their fledgling romance is put in jeopardy and only complete honesty can save it.

Excerpt One

Slowly she dropped her arm back down and turned around expecting Dylan to step back. He didn't move. Rather he reached out to brush a stray piece of hair off her face.

As if on autopilot Callie closed her eyes as his fingers skimmed down her check and neck to her shoulder. With the weight of his hand resting on her shoulder, she waited not sure what to expect. And then she felt just the slightest bit of pressure as his lips settled over hers. Everything seemed to stop. The only things she was aware of were his callused hand on her shoulder and his lips on hers. The kiss was gentle. Tender.

This shouldn't be happening. Not with this man.

Even as her brain protested, Callie's body responded. She wanted to feel his hard-muscled body pressed up against hers. Even though she knew she should break contact, she took a step closer and rested her hands on his wide shoulders.

Excerpt Two

Dylan was still staring out the window twenty minutes later when he heard Callie enter the room. Turning to watch her, an unfamiliar feeling of contentment settled over him. Having her here in his apartment just felt natural. Reaching for her hand he tugged her close. “Have a nice nap?”

Callie nodded. “You should have woken me,” she replied just before yawning.

“Obviously you needed the rest.” He pointed out laughing. “Besides I plan on keeping you up tonight so I figured letting you sleep now was in my best interest.”

She blushed at his comment, and he couldn't resist the urge to kiss her. Dylan forced himself to pull away before they ended up in his bedroom again.

Damn. He'd only intended a quick kiss. Yet once again he got carried away. It happened so easily with her. It wasn't something he was used to. He always remained in control, no matter who he was with. Yet with Callie all his control went not only out the window but down the street to the next block, and Dylan kept forcing himself to not think about why.
I wrote my first story with characters similar to those in the Sweet Valley Twins books at the age of 10
on my grandmother's manual typewriter. As I got older my stories and characters became more mature.
During my freshman year at UMass Dartmouth, I read my first romance novel and fell in love with the
genre. I have been writing romance ever since.

Today I live with my husband, three beautiful daughters and two dogs in Massachusetts. Whenever I
have a free moment you'll find me either reading a romance novel or working on my most current story.

Telesa - The Covenant Keeper

Synopsis: Leila returns to the land of her birth in search of family and instead discovers she is heir to a fiery elemental birthright...all while navigating through the drama of a new high school with the help of her new best friend "Simone daahling" - a boy with flawless makeup and the catwalk style of Kate Moss.

She is introduced to the national sport of rugby and meets an irritating boy that would be much easier to hate if he didn't have chipped emerald eyes that are always laughing at her and a glorious golden smile. (The glistening, bronzed abs and Pacific warrior tattoos don't help either.)

There's hate, love, jealousy, volcanoes and lots of delicious Samoan food in Leila's coming-of-age journey as she realizes that ancient Pacific myths of elemental spirit women Telesa, contain more truth than fiction. Secrets are revealed and things get blown up as Leila must choose between sisterhood and the boy she loves. Can their love stand against the Covenant Keeper?

There are many different kinds of love. All of them require sacrifice. Who will give everything for the one they love?

A thriller-romance with a difference. If you enjoyed Twilight, then you will be enthralled by Telesa as it blends the richness (and humor) of Pacific mythology into a contemporary young adult love story that will stay with you long after you have turned the final page.

Excerpt

“No … please … how to stop it? How can I stop it?”

I burst into useless tears. Tears that fizzed and hissed in a heartbeat of heat. No amount of crying would help now. I wrung my hands, no way out of it. It was hopeless. In a few minutes I would be a mass murderer. A killer. In my mind’s eye, I could see it now. People on fire running in circles, frantically beating at the hungry flames. The smell of flesh scorching, peeling off ashy bone. Screams. Pleas for help. I sank to my knees, drained dry of strength. Unwilling to watch the carnage but unable to take my eyes away. I was drowning in a sea of fiery despair. Suffocating in a red night of terror.

A clear, calm voice spoke from beside me. “Leila. Call it back. You can do it. Call it back. Call it back NOW.”

I looked up, eyes glistening with molten tears. He stood as close to me as he dared, shielding his face from the heat with his hands, the edges of his clothes singed and charred.

“I can’t.” Abject despair in my voice. “I don’t know how.”

“Yes you can. You have the power. You know you do. You spoke to it before. It listens to you. Call it back now before it’s too late. Please.”

It was the ‘please’ that did it. That snapped me out of the depths. He wanted me to call the fire. He believed that I could. And I wanted him to believe in me. Slowly, I raised myself from the ground, closed my eyes and willed that fiery beast to come home.

To listen to me – its mistress. To return and feed instead on my molten core. I trembled at the very thought of the blaze finding its way back. How could I possibly summon it all when it had grown so exponentially as it fed? But this was my fault. I had to find the strength from somewhere. I opened my eyes and shuddered at the majesty of the sight before me.

Directly ahead of me was a massive wall of fire. It had stopped advancing across the field and now it stood waiting; the beast waited for my command. Now – it asked – what would you have me do? Opening my arms, every ounce of my being quivering with fear, I summoned it home.

I burned. Inside and out. I burned. There was indescribable pain and the knife edge of pleasure. It was ecstasy and hell all at once. Then, as swiftly as it had begun, it stopped.

I was empty. A dried husk scorched beyond belief. Withered and dead. I fell.

I was born and raised in Samoa. I went to university in the USA and New Zealand, studying English Literature, Women's Studies and Education. Back in Samoa I worked as a secondary school English teacher for 7 years and did lots of writing in between for the local newspaper and for myself. My short fiction has been published in Samoa, NZ, Australia and the UK. My collection of short stories "Sleepless in Samoa" won the 2011 USP Press Fiction Award. I also write stories for children that are used in primary school reading programs.

In 2009 I was commissioned by Hans Joe Keil to research and write the narrative non-fiction book 'Pacific Tsunami Galu Afi'. The book was funded by the Australian Govt Aid program and all book sale profits go back to tsunami survivors who were interviewed for the record. My book 'TELESA The Covenant Keeper' is the first in a YA urban fantasy series and it was launched in Oct 2011.

I'm married to Darren Young (who is probably the most patient and most hottest man alive) and we have five children ranging in age from 4 to 16yrs. We are now based in New Zealand but get to go home to Samoa enough to keep me brown. (and broke.) I blog about the misadventures of a (slightly demented) Domestic Goddess over at Sleepless in Samoa.

Excerpt

My parents’ deaths had been quick. One cold metal bullet to the side of my father’s head was all it took to steal the life of the man whose lap I curled up in every night before bed so he could tell me a story; the man who brought me cold milk and warm cinnamon sugar cookies when I had nightmares; the man whose warm, dark brown eyes and toothy smile lit up the room every time my mother walked in.

My poor mother, she never stood a chance. Before she could even reach my father, a man in black grabbed her from behind. With one flick of his wrist, a gaping wound appeared across her throat. The man in black tossed her carelessly next to my father’s crumpled form, like she was trash.

I was murderous. The feelings overwhelmed me, stirring in my stomach and rising like bile in my throat; overwhelmed me. Then the horrible, high-pitched shrieking started; it filled my ears, suffocating all of the coherent thoughts in my brain.

I am still not sure if it was the cold, calculated murder of my father, or the careless disposal of my mother – probably both – but I felt something inside of me snap. One minute, I was hiding in the closet with the silk of my mother’s long dresses pulled tight around my face, like curtains trying to block out the brutal scene in the bedroom. The next, I was sitting in the outer room of our hotel suite, surrounded by broken furniture, shattered glass, and the bodies of the men in black. They were all dead.

The blonde man carried a large gun slung over one shoulder, and several smaller ones were tucked at his waist. An entire team of men clamored through the doorway after him. He held up one of his hands, indicating for the men to stay back. He approached me slowly, hesitantly. He was greater than an arms distance away when he tentatively extended one of his large, gloved hands toward me; I had seen people do the same thing with wounded animals.

“Natalia?” he asked in a soft voice. I couldn’t find the energy to even nod my head, I just stared blankly. “Natalia,” he repeated. “My name is Danbury McDonough. Do you remember me? I’m friends with your daddy.” I rewarded him with another of my blank stares. “Natalia, are you hurt?” He took my silence as an indication that I was not.

He placed me in the back seat of the waiting vehicle. I curled into a ball as he covered me with dry blankets. My body and mind were numb, impervious to the rain and cold. He tucked the red and black fabric under my chin. I was vaguely aware that the material was itchy against my skin, but I didn’t move it away.

I could hear the soft ping of the raindrops hitting the metal roof of the car, keeping perfect time with the tears leaking on to the soft leather seat and pooling underneath my cheek. I tried to concentrate on the noise instead of the slideshow of my parents’ deaths playing on the inside of my eyelids. I was convinced that the images, now seared into my conscious, would never fade. The feelings I’d had in the closet were now gone, leaving me empty and hollow and tired – so tired. I closed my swollen eyes and willed my own mind blank.
