Crooked Fang is one of the best vampire books I've read in a long, long time, and Xan Marcelles is quite possibly one of the best realized vampires I've ever encountered.

With Xan, Carrie has done something so many vampire authors seem unwilling or unable to do... instead of creating a vampire, she's created a PERSON who happens to be a vampire. A small, but distinct difference, and it breathes fresh life into a concept that's been beaten to death with whiny teenagers and sparkly nonsense over the past few years.

As for the book itself, it hits hard and hits fast, and is full of sex, blood, and rock 'n roll... not to mention fast cars and motorcycles and guns, too. Well-written and with a sense of fun, it's not afraid to get dark and deadly, but Carrie skillfully keeps Crooked Fang from getting too moody 'n broody.

One of the things I love best about Crooked Fang is that while it's very much a vampire novel, it's not about the whole experience BEING a vampire and getting fixated on all the little details so many other books have pounded into the ground -- it's about the kinds of dark and nutty things that vampires get tangled up in, even when they're trying to mind their own business.

Simply put, this is a fine vampire novel, and the perfect tonic to wash away the overdone excesses of the genre. It's fun and refreshing, and well worth your time. Pick this book up and tell all your friends... Carrie should be further encouraged to write more!

Crooked Fang, by Carrie Clevenger, is, to put it bluntly, a bloody fun read.

The prose is excellent, the pace perfect, the story line engaging, and while the action isn't here in spades this kind of story doesn't need it. There's enough sex, drugs and rock n' roll in this story to keep us metal heads happy, and one of the pleasures of this read was the fact it introduced me to a couple of great songs I'd never heard before.

Despite the fact he's a self-confessed a-hole, I really liked Xan Marcelles' character--so much so that I started following him on Twitter (yes, that's right, a fictional bass player has a Twitter account).

Great original spin on the age old good v evil

This is a book that has had me curious. The blurb alone is interesting and while many a story is based on the basic premise of good v evil in this case the evil having won and are still waging the battle.

A story based on the age old good v evil played out in cyberspace was a fresh spin and one I really enjoyed. I like how out of the box it was, I really appreciated the uniqueness the author brought to the story.

It will mess with your head...in a good way.

Not many books start out with "Evil Won" So this book was deff. a diff from the normal book. With just over 200 pages for the first book and the same for the second. These two books were very fast to read! I read them in about a day and a half (I had a kid whom was sick). They were great, easy to read, small so I could take it on the go.

The story will mess with your head but in a good way! This story is VERY interesting! You should check them out!

A Book and a Dragon...

Seriously What More Do You Need?

Redheart by Jackie Gamber is a power house of a book and there is several reason's why. One of those reasons is the characters, sometimes in fantasy books it's hard to connect with dragons and this one I connected with Kallon. He's a loner, one that isn't connected with his own kind or humans either and he likes it that way.

Of course a great book isn't any good with out a little conflict and a bad guy right? The bad one in this book is like most bad guys, Jastin, who of course hates dragons and thinks he has a right to hate them.

But to my surprise this character isn't all bad, he does love and show kindness sometimes, just don't tell him I said that. (Yes I know the character is just a character, insert evil laugh here!)

Another reason I loved this book is the descriptions author Jackie Gamber has in Redheart. Descriptions that had me daydreaming I was in the world she had created and I stood there watching everything take place.

Somehow, ‘Plague of Angels’ reminds me of the film ‘Legion” or the recurring angels thread in ‘Dr Who’—but Kennedy’s book stands on its own, thanks to the author’s crisp writing, knack for believable dialogue, and an emotional gravitas that burbles just underneath the book’s entire plot.

Sorrow’s Point is an explosive read! I read this book in one sitting and could not put it down until the end. It has elements of horror as well as love and humor. This makes the book unique and gives it depth through each character.

The main characters of this book are “ex priest” and a Wiccan which caught my attention immendiately. This is an unusual pairing, but it actually creates a good synergy throughout the book and touches on what it really means to have faith. Not religion. Faith.

Jimmy Holiday is the only person that a friend turns to when his daughter begins to behave abnormally. This book goes into the many steps that it will take to be granted an exorcism as well as providing a horrific first hand glance into the world of demons and possession.

It is a must read for those of you looking for a new take on the demonic and with some interesting plot twists along the way.

Move over, Stephen King.

Danielle DeVor is on her way!

First let me say that this isn’t my usual reading genre, and that I haven’t picked up a scary book in years. My kids know better than to try to take me to a scary movie – I scream and flinch way too easily.

But as a teen, I devoured everything by Stephen King, read Edgar Allen Poe under the covers with a flashlight, and read The Amityville Horror, Jaws, and everything by V.C. Andrews over the same hot (scary) summer.

Sorrow’s Point took me back to those days. A well-crafted classic tale of horror and suspense, it reminded me of a combination of The Shining and Amityville Horror rolled together, with a protagonist ex-priest that I actually liked and rooted for, despite his personal shortcomings.

I love the interactions between Jimmy and Tabby, and found the juxtaposition of witchcraft, demonology and Catholic faith fascinating. However, I wouldn’t recommend reading this at night, or if you’re alone in the house. There are some seriously scary parts!

If you’re looking to scare yourself a bit with a well-crafted tale, pick up this book. You won’t be disappointed.
