The department posted on social media stating that at around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Station 2 was broken into and items were stolen from Engine 2. Stolen items include a thermal imaging camera, cordless cutters and spreaders, a flashlight, and power tools.

This event is part of the National EMS Memorial Service’s annual procession across the United States.

The National EMS Memorial Service’s annual procession began on June 1 in Redding, Calif. The extensive journey covers 9,000 miles and includes 32 stops across 24 states.

Megan Haverkamp, an AMR paramedic, spoke about the profound sacrifices made by first responders. “First responders go in on someone’s worst day, and these 37 unfortunately didn’t get to come home to their families,” Haverkamp said. She highlighted that while there are permanent memorials for law enforcement and fire personnel, there is currently no permanent memorial for EMS workers, stating, “There’s a permanent memorial for law enforcement, there’s a permanent memorial for fire. Unfortunately, there’s no permanent memorial for EMS and that’s in the works.”

According to the Westfield Fire Department, crews were called around 8:20 p.m. to Mestek Corp., located at 260 North Elm Street.

When crews arrived, firefighters found smoke and fire coming from an interior office space in the center of the building. The fire was contained to the dining room and extinguished quickly, fire officials said.

Although the flames were brought under control quickly, crews spent additional time ventilating the building due to the facility’s large size and older layout. The building was unoccupied when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.

Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by combustible materials placed too close to a heating unit. Officials said damage to the building was minimal, crediting the facility’s properly functioning smoke detectors and fire alarm system with helping limit the extent of the fire.

Firefighters, military, and members of the community walked 5 miles around the island while carrying weighted backpacks to honor the legacy of fallen Boston firefighter Bobby Kilduff Jr.

Kilduff, who was a 24-year veteran of the Boston Fire Department and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was killed back in May while battling a fire in Dorchester. Sunday’s event was put on by a non-profit called Oscar Mike Ruckers, based out of Hubbardston.

According to Tom Lyon, the founder of Oscar Mike Ruckers, the heavy backpacks worn during the walk signify the fallen. All of the proceeds from the event are going directly to the Kilduff family.

The Northborough Fire Department says it responded after multiple people called 911 just before 9 p.m. to report a serious crash on the eastbound side of the highway prior to Exit 27 (Hudson Street/Solomon Pond Road).

First responders found a Subaru and a Jeep fully involved in fire and with severe front-end damage once on scene. One of the vehicles was resting on its side. Several Northborough police officers and Massachusetts State Police troopers were already attempting to extinguish the flames when firefighters arrived.

The driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles had escaped prior to emergency personnel arriving on scene, according to the fire department. They were taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle could not be rescued despite the “valiant efforts” of first responders, the fire department added, and they were pronounced dead at the scene. State police confirmed the wrong-way driver died as a result of their injuries.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes and around 2,000 gallons of water to put out the vehicle fires, according to the fire department. Following the completion of the on-scene investigation, firefighters then spent nearly one hour using hydraulic rescue tools to remove the victim’s body from their vehicle. Their name has not been released.

Instructors from the Cape Cod Center for Public Safety Training’s Fire Program Division are conducting this week’s training.

Officials say by bringing the training directly into local communities, firefighters can participate while remaining on duty and available to respond to emergencies.

The roof prop provides a realistic, controlled environment that allows firefighters to practice roof ventilation and techniques while safely simulating conditions found during actual fire operations.

When 22News crews arrived at 28 Wilcox Road at approximately 11:50 p.m., a large fire was visible inside the building, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the back porches. Nearby local crews, including the Wilbraham Fire Department, provided mutual aid.

Springfield Fire Captain Drew Piemonte told 22News that the Arson & Bomb Squad determined the fire began in the living room of Apartment 1-L and spread to the building’s rear porches.

No injuries have been reported. Displaced occupants are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. 22News will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Chief Cross brings decades of experience to his new role, having started his career with the Chicopee Fire Department in April 1996. His appointment follows a steady climb through the ranks of the department.

Cross reflected on the personal significance of the recent swearing-in ceremony. He expressed gratitude for the support shown by those present.

“The many years that I have studied, that I have worked under this department, worked my way up through the ranks,” Cross said. “To have former members of the department, current members of the department, it means the world to me to have everybody here to show their support for me and our department.”

The boat was headed from Hingham to Long Wharf when Boston Fire Deputy Chief Steven Schaffer said someone noticed smoke from the rear of the boat while it was in the Harbor.

Crews were able to bring the boat to Castle Island to unload the passengers, who were given lifejackets, and everyone got off safely.

“So right about when we hit Castle Island, we heard a boom and then seen some smoke and it smelled like electrical fire,” said Charles Freeman, a passenger on the ferry. “It took about 15 minutes to get us from the ship to the shore, onto Castle Island. The captain and the crew they wre great, they kept everyone calm and the captain did his thing.”

Schaffer said firefighters found a small fire under the deck, which did not involve the engine room, at approximately 2:30 p.m. They were able to quickly put out the flames before the boat was eventually towed away.

“I’m not sure what caused the fire, we don’t know that yet, but the commuter boat was underway in the harbor when they noticed smoke from the rear of the boat. They brought the boat in here to Castle Island, tied up to unload the passengers. Our marine unit was notified, responded, two members put out a small fire which was under the deck,” Schaffer said.

Crews responded just before 1 a.m. to the single-family home at Temi Road and found heavy fire upon arrival. The blaze quickly escalated to a second alarm.

“First arriving units on scene found heavy fire through the roof and the rear of the structure. We also had confirmed reports of two people in the home, trapped,” Bellingham Fire Department Chief Bill Miller said. “With the amount of fire that was here when we arrived, I would say, yes, it had been burning for a while.”

Two people were pulled from the home and taken to Milford Regional Medical Center, where they later died. Their names were not released; however, officials said they were sisters.

“One victim was found in the bedroom. One victim was found in the hallway,” Miller said. A cat also died in the fire. No firefighters were injured during the incident. The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to help determine what led to the fire.
