Making its world debut at the North American International Auto Show this past January, the 2012 Hyundai Veloster showcased a host of innovative features, from leading-edge infotainment technology designed to keep you safe and connected to an all-new hyper-fuel-efficient engine that returns up to 40 mpg without the added weight, cost and complexity of a hybrid system. The new 2012 Hyundai Veloster dropped many a jaw at its Detroit debut, and that response seemed appropriate given the car’s revolutionary, motorcycle-inspired styling. Possessing the fluid, raked lines of a sport coupe, the Veloster delivers hatchback functionality along with forward-hinged third-door accessibility to the backseat. Throw in its superior gas mileage, sophisticated engineering and bounty of standard content, and the Veloster is guaranteed to send competitive front-wheel drive coupes like the MINI Clubman and Honda CR-Z Hybrid slinking off into the shadows. Motivating this mold-breaker is the all-new Gamma 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, the smallest engine in Hyundai’s lineup to benefit from Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI). Making 138 hp and 123 lb/ft of torque, the Gamma four’s specific output of 86.3 horsepower per liter is best in this segment. Additional high-efficiency hardware – such as Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, variable induction and electronic throttle control – all contribute to the Veloster’s Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle certification. A six-speed manual gearbox comes standard, and a new, Hyundai-designed six-speed dual-clutch unit (DCT) with paddleshifters is also available. The DCT performs like a traditional automatic transmission while eliminating the efficiency losses caused by torque converters. The DCT also features an Active Eco mode that delivers a seven-percent improvement in fuel economy, helping the Veloster return an estimated 40 mpg on the highway – a rating that bests the mileage of smaller coupes like the Honda Fit and Mazda2. Another significant contributor to greater fuel economy is the Veloster’s light weight. It tips the scales at 2,584 pounds, more than 400 pounds lighter than the Scion tC. Ensuring the dynamic ride and handling buyers demand of sporty coupes, Hyundai outfitted the Veloster with quick-ratio electric power steering, an independent front suspension with a lightweight V torsion beam in back and Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control. The four-wheel antilock brake system (ABS) includes Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Along with crisp driving dynamics, buyers want to stay connected, whether they’re in park or on the go.

Hyundai outfitted the Veloster with an array of state-of-the-art technology that puts the whole world at your beckon call, the highlight of which is the new Blue Link® system. Hyundai’s Blue Link safety, service and infotainment system is an all-encompassing range of telematics, from remote start and hands-free, voice text messaging to roadside assistance, automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle location and turn-by-turn navigation (touchscreen navigation is optional). Items like Bluetooth with Voice Recognition and iPod/USB auxiliary jacks are also included. Metallic trim and available alloy pedals and an available leather-wrapped steering wheel and shiftknob round out the outlaw effect. Highlights on the options list include a chrome grille surround, fog lamps, a panoramic sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels with painted inserts (17-inch alloy rims are standard). There’s even a Rearview Camera available for added safety when you’re parking or backing out of the driveway. In 1998, a group of New England-area Hyundai dealers launched a local initiative to raise funds to support pediatric cancer through the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. What started as a small contribution in a local market has evolved into Hyundai Hope On Wheels®, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Hope On Wheels is the united effort of Hyundai Motor America and its more than 800 dealers across the U.S. to raise awareness about childhood cancer and to celebrate the lives of the children battling the disease. Every time a new Hyundai vehicle is sold in the U.S., Hyundai customers join Hyundai and its dealers in funding important life-saving research through the organization's signature Hyundai Scholar Grant and Hyundai Hope Grant programs. Since its inception 14 years ago, Hope On Wheels has donated more than $45 million to pediatric cancer research at institutions nationwide. The Hope On Wheels Scholar Grant program began in 2006 and each year visits children's hospitals across the U.S. to donate funds and raise awareness for childhood cancer research. All stops during this program include a Hope On Wheels "Handprint Ceremony," the program's signature event which celebrates the lives of the brave children battling the disease by capturing their colorful handprints on a white Hyundai Santa Fe. For its 2nd annual National Childhood Cancer Awareness program in 2011, Hope On Wheels awarded seventy one $100,000 Hope Grants to nonprofit institutions, totaling $7.1 million in donations for the month of September alone. Additionally, in 2011, Hope On Wheels made its single largest research grant award in the amount of $10 million to CHOC Children's Hospital of Orange County. The Hyundai Genesis has been taking home awards since its introduction, but 2012 is the year that this sedan favorite shatters the competition with stunning new styling, direct injection technology developing one of the world’s most powerful V6 engines and a new eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s a package you’d spend tens of thousands more to try to match elsewhere.
Let’s start with the V6 in the Genesis 3.8 four-door (MSRP $34,200). The Genesis 3.8-liter Lambda engine receives a staggering 15 percent boost in horsepower thanks to Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology that boosts its output from 290 to 333 hp. The 3.8-liter also provides that down low passing torque with an increase from 264 lb/ft to 291 lb/ft. For an apples-to-apples comparison, take a look at the Genesis and its specific output, measured in horsepower per liter of engine displacement: The Genesis V6 delivers 87.6 hp/liter while the BMW 528i only offers 80 hp/per liter, and the much more expensive Mercedes-Benz E350 can only provide 76.6 hp/liter. This all comes with a highway fuel economy increase from 27 mpg to 29 mpg.
Next up, in the Genesis 4.6 is the 4.6-liter Tau® V8 engine, which underwent significant revision recently including induction and tuning enhancements that increased peak output from 375 to 385 hp. A variable intake system, iridium-tipped sparkplugs, anti-knock control and multi-port fuel injection further add to the sophistication of this engine. Round One – Specifications The objective tale of the tape shows which competitor is the most likely to suit your daily driving needs. Both the Hyundai Accent GLS and the Ford Fiesta SEL carry 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engines, but the Accent does a lot more with that displacement, featuring 138 hp to the Ford Focus’ 120, and 123 lb/ft of torque to the Ford’s 112. With more power, the Accent is also 220 pounds lighter, at 2,396 pounds with the manual transmission. The Accent GLS has a 101.2-inch wheelbase, compared to the Fiesta’s 98 inches, translating into greater interior volume in almost every measure. Overall, the Accent offers a five-cubic-foot advantage over the Fiesta in passenger volume, and a two-cubic-foot advantage in cargo volume. The Ford Fiesta SEL Sedan has an MSRP of $16,600. The Accent GLS? More than $4,000 less at $12,545. Even the entry-level Fiesta S Sedan, at $13,200, costs more than the Accent GLS. Round Two – Safety Hyundai is committed to the safety of you and your loved ones when you drive one of its products. 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Preview

The redesigned 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, which goes on sale here in the fall, was teased ahead of its world debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

Hyundai said the new Santa Fe embodies its "Storm Edge" design concept, which hints at the Korean automaker's future SUV designs. It "captures the strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of a storm," Hyundai said.

The redone Santa Fe gets a hexagonal grille, a two-tone body and wider front and rear bumpers.

Hyundai did not disclose technical specifications on the 2013 Santa Fe — a key element, given that the Korean automaker has been a high-profile participant in vying for the fuel-efficiency crown in the U.S.

The 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe returns 20 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. Presumably, Hyundai will attempt to outdo those numbers with the 2013 Santa Fe, especially as gas prices creep toward the $4-per-gallon mark.

Hyundai and Kia tied for the highest fleetwide adjusted composite fuel economy value, beating Toyota, in an EPA fuel-economy report issued last Thursday. Hyundai had an overall adjusted fuel economy rating of 27.0 mpg, according to 2010 statistics, said the EPA. The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is an original looking hatchback aimed at capturing the younger drivers. Hyudnai made sure to add to the 2012 Hyundai Veloster that will appeal to the busy lifestyle that the younger crowd can appreciate. One of the unusual features is a trick third door that dove tails into the front-hinged rear door on the passenger’s side of the car.
