As the Bayou Bengals had done four other times this season, LSU fell behind early 10-0 only to take control and hammer the Buckeyes 38-24 to claim their second BCS title in the past five years.

Ohio State, LSU Head the Master Coaches Poll

Ohio State reclaimed the top spot in the final Master Coaches Poll released before the BCS Championship Game. LSU rebounded into the No. 2 spot as the previous No. 1 and 2 teams, Missouri and West Virginia faltered in their bid to play in the BCS Championship Game. Improbably, it was the second week in a row that both top teams lost. LSU and Kansas accomplished that feat last week.

Mizzou the Latest No. 1

Missouri is the No. 1 team in the Master Coaches Poll for the first time ever. The Tigers became the fourth team to occupy the No. 1 spot this season after defeating then-No. 2 Kansas 36-28 on Saturday night. Quarterback Chase Daniel led the way for Mizzou, completing 40-of-49 passes for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns. Daniel strengthened his Heisman campaign with another outstanding effort against the Jayhawks and helped Mizzou climb to the top of this week's poll.

Kansas Takes Over the No. 2 Ranking

Undefeated Kansas moved into the No. 2 spot after notching their eleventh win, the most in school history. The Jayhawks blasted Iowa State 45-7 in Lawrence, setting up their match-up with Missouri that will decide the winner of the Big XII North. Mizzou did their job as well and moved up a spot to No. 4 with a 49-32 win over Kansas State.

No. 1 Ohio State Goes Down

Ohio State became the latest victim in the year of the upset this weekend, falling to Illinois 28-21. The Buckeyes' reign at No. 1 was short-lived; they held the spot for just four weeks. After losing to the Fighting Illini in Columbus, Ohio State is almost certainly out of the national championship discussion.

Three Unbeaten Teams Remain

Ohio State, Kansas and Hawaii are the only undefeated teams left in this wild 2007 college football season. The Buckeyes retained their No. 1 ranking after scoring 28 unanswered points in a 38-17 win over Wisconsin. No. 5 Kansas was equally impressive in their win over Nebraska. The Jayhawks put 76 points on the board in Lawrence, hanging the most points ever on the Cornhuskers' Black Shirt defense. Hawaii was idle this weekend.

Six Teams Remain Unbeaten; Ohio State is No. 1

Ohio State has assumed a familiar position in this week's Master Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes held the top spot in the poll every week of the regular season last year and have taken over at No. 1 for the first time this season, following a 48-3 victory over Kent State.

The Upsets Keep Coming

Parity remains the story of the 2007 college football season. Two more giants were slain this weekend, causing another shift in the Top 5 of the Master Coaches Poll. In possibly the biggest upset in college football history, Stanford (2-4, 1-3 Pac-10) defeated then No. 2 Southern Cal in the Coliseum, snapping a Pac-10 record 35-game home winning streak. USC fell out of the Top 5 to No. 6 in the poll.

LSU edges past USC for No. 1

The Master Coaches moved LSU back to No. 1 in their poll, this time the Tigers stand alone. Last week's top team USC managed to squeak past Washington 27-24 in Seattle on Saturday. But their lackluster performance provided LSU the opportunity to regain their No. 1 ranking. After a sloppy first half, the top-ranked Tigers shut out Tulane in the second half of the game and LSU defeated their in-state rival 34-9.
