And what could’ve been simple becomes complicated.

So today, let’s talk about how to have hard conversations the right way—so you can lead with clarity, confidence, and Christ-centered influence.

Why Hard Conversations Matter in Leadership

As a leader, your responsibility isn’t to keep everyone comfortable—it’s to lead well.

When you avoid difficult conversations:

• Problems grow instead of being solved

• Resentment builds (on both sides)

• Trust begins to erode

When there is a void in communication, negativity will fill it.

Healthy leadership requires you to speak truth in love.

Not just truth.
Not just love.
But both.

The Balance: Truth and Love

Most leaders lean one way or the other:

• They speak truth—but forget to be loving

• Or they’re kind—but avoid being honest

But real leadership—Christ-centered leadership—requires both.

Speaking truth in love is what helps you grow—and helps others grow too.

Hard conversations are not unloving—avoiding them is.

Before the Conversation: Check Your Heart

Before you say a word, pause.

Your heart posture matters just as much as your words.

Ask yourself:

• Am I trying to help… or just prove I’m right?

• Am I reacting emotionally?

• Have I prayed about this?

If you’re emotional—wait.
If your motive is off—pause.
If you haven’t prayed—start there.

Your 3-Step Preparation

1. Pray for wisdom, humility, and discernment

2. Clarify the issue (stick to facts)

3. Examine your motive

This is where leadership begins—with intentionality and self-awareness.

The CALM Framework for Hard Conversations

If you’ve ever thought, “I don’t even know what to say…”—this is for you.

Use the CALM framework to guide your conversation:

C — Communicate Clearly

Be direct and respectful.

“I wanted to talk to you about something that’s been concerning me.”

No rambling. No circling. Just clarity.

A — Active Listening

Don’t just talk—listen.

Ask:

• “Can you help me understand what happened?”

• “What’s your perspective?”

Then… actually listen.

You may discover something you didn’t expect.

L — Lead Toward Resolution

Don’t just point out the problem—move forward.

Ask:

• “What would help us avoid this moving forward?”

• “What needs to change?”

Leadership is about solutions, not just awareness.

M — Maintain the Relationship

End with encouragement and respect.

“I value you. I want us to succeed together.”

A healthy conversation should strengthen relationships—not destroy them.

Common Mistakes Leaders Make

Let’s make this practical—here’s what to avoid:

Waiting Too Long

The longer you wait, the harder it gets.

Bringing Up Too Much

Don’t stack issues. Stick to one conversation at a time.

Leading with Emotion Instead of Wisdom

If you’re heated—you’re not ready.

Talking About Them Instead of To Them

Don’t talk about people. Talk to them.

That’s integrity.
That’s leadership.

A Leadership Truth You Need to Remember

Hard conversations are not confrontations.

They are:

• Opportunities for growth

• Moments of stewardship

• Acts of leadership

You are not attacking someone—you are leading them well.

Christ-Centered Leadership in Action

Jesus modeled this perfectly.

He:

• Spoke truth

• Corrected people

• Restored people

That’s your model.

Not avoidance.
Not harshness.
But truth and love.

The Humility Required to Lead Like Jesus

Biblical Leadership for Christian Women Who Want to Make a Lasting Impact

Humility is an attribute of a strong leader.

Have you ever thought about that?

If someone asked you to list the qualities of a great leader, humility might not be the first thing that comes to mind. Many people think leadership requires boldness, confidence, or charisma.

But according to Scripture—and the example of Jesus—humility is essential for strong leadership. Without humility, you may lead for a season, but you won’t lead with lasting impact.

If you truly want to lead like Jesus and influence others for the Kingdom, humility must become part of your leadership foundation.

What Humility Really Means in Leadership

Leadership expert John Maxwell defines humility this way:

That definition changes everything.

Humility does not mean putting yourself down or believing you don’t matter. It simply means your focus shifts from yourself to others.

Let’s pause for a moment and do a little heart check.

How often do your thoughts revolve around:

• How something affected you

• Whether something felt fair

• How someone treated you

• Whether you were recognized

When our thoughts constantly circle back to ourselves, it becomes difficult to lead others well.

Humility redirects our attention outward.

It helps us see the people around us and intentionally influence them through:

• encouragement

• service

• teaching

• generosity

• leadership

That’s exactly how Jesus led.

The Biblical Model of Humility

Philippians 2:3 tells us:

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”

Many of us learned the acronym JOY as children:

J – Jesus first
O – Others next
Y – Yourself last

This doesn’t mean ignoring your needs or neglecting your health.

It simply means our leadership becomes others-focused rather than self-focused.

And that is where real influence begins.

Why Humility Is Essential for Christian Leadership

Humility Is the Catalyst for Growth

It takes humility to admit we still have room to grow.

None of us have arrived. None of us are perfect like Jesus.

Humility allows us to say:

• I need to read that book.

• I need to learn from someone else.

• I need to take that course.

Growth begins when we are humble enough to admit we still have something to learn.

Humility Balances Confidence

Confident Christian leadership requires both confidence and humility.

Confidence helps you step forward in obedience to God.

Humility helps you say:

• “That’s not my area of expertise.”

• “I don’t know the answer yet.”

• “Let me research that and get back to you.”

Strong leaders are secure enough to acknowledge their weaknesses.

Humility Requires a Teachable Spirit

A humble leader stays teachable.

Instead of believing we are the expert in every situation, we remain open to:

• new ideas

• different approaches

• feedback from others

Sometimes feedback is uncomfortable.

But often feedback is actually a form of love.

Someone cared enough to step out of their comfort zone and tell you the truth.

A humble leader reflects on that feedback and asks:

“Lord, what do you want me to learn from this?”

Humility Is the Antidote to Pride

The Bible speaks strongly about pride.

But pride doesn’t only show up as arrogance.

It can also look like:

• self-promotion

• self-obsession

• self-criticism

• believing you’re not good enough to lead

Both extremes keep our attention on ourselves.

Humility frees us to focus on God’s mission instead of our image.

Humility Doesn’t Seek Credit

One of the clearest signs of humility is this:

You don’t need recognition.

God sees your work.
God sees your service.

If our motive for leading is applause or validation, the impact will always be shallow.

True leadership serves for the glory of the Lord.

Humility Admits Mistakes

A strong leader is:

• big enough to admit mistakes

• smart enough to learn from them

• strong enough to correct them

Accountability is not weakness.

It’s leadership maturity.

A Powerful Example of Leadership Humility

Many years ago I worked at a company in Memphis called Smith & Nephew. The president at the time was leading a global organization.

One day I was struggling to transcribe a complicated medical recording.

After several people couldn’t help me, he happened to walk by.

When I explained the problem, this global company president got down on his knees beside my desk, put on the headset, and helped me finish the transcription.

I will never forget that moment.

That is humility.

And that is exactly the kind of leadership Jesus modeled.

Practical Ways to Lead with Humility

If you want to lead like Jesus, humility will show up in everyday actions.

Serve others

Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. True leaders are not above serving.

Admit when you don’t know

It takes strength to say, “I don’t have the answer yet.”

Listen more than you speak

Humble leaders value others’ ideas and perspectives.

Empower the people around you

Encourage your team and acknowledge their contributions.

Step outside your comfort zone

Humility values people more than personal comfort.

The Heart of Humble Leadership

Ultimately, humility requires surrender.

We ask God:

• What do You want me to say?

• How do You want me to lead?

• Who do You want me to influence?

When we surrender our leadership to God, something powerful happens.

Humility transforms leadership from:

self-serving power → sacrificial influence

It builds trust.
It strengthens relationships.
It creates healthy teams.

And most importantly…

It allows us to lead like Jesus.

Do you ever think about it? If today was your last day, what influence would you have had in this world? I’m not talking about success or titles. I’m asking, who would stand up at your funeral and say, “Because I knew her, I know Jesus.”

Consider all the people –

• your coworkers over the years,

• your bosses,

• the people in other departments,

• your networking group

• your friends,

• all your acquaintances

• the ladies in your Bible study,

• those on the committees you have served on,

• those you encounter out in the community

• the people who have served you in any capacity

• your spouse

• your children

• your extended family

• and the thousands of others whose path you have crossed

How have you impacted each of them?

That’s uncomfortable to even consider. I apologize for being so direct. But, look around. This lost and dying world is in need of a little Christ-centered influence. I am sure you agree.

So where do we start? What do we do?

Well, here is some good news for you….

Moses – you know the one who should have been disqualified from leading, the one who had many insecurities, and the one who disobeyed God and lost the opportunity to enter the Promised Land. Yes, him. Look how God used him and his life. Look at the impact that was made through him. And although he died approximately 3,300 years ago – God is still using Moses’ life and his faithfulness today. WOW! That is the kind of influence I am talking about.

Confident Christian Influence = allowing God to work in you, so He can work through you, to influence those around you. You are to be salt and light. You are to lead. And while your time is here on earth will end, your influence will live on long after you. That is why it is important that we become intentional about it.

As Moses was commissioning Joshua to lead the Israelites into The Promised Land, this is what he told him…

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

What great advice.

These words are recorded – so God must want you to read them and apply them to your life.

The world is your mission field. There are people at your workplace, out in the community, and in your home who need you to become who you were created to become and to do what you were created to do – lead them to Jesus.

What will you do?

If you want to fulfill the plan and the purpose God has for you. If you want to answer the call on your life. If you are ready to accept your commission to lead others to the Promised Land, here is what you are to do…

1.        Do not be afraid or discouraged,

2.        for the Lord will personally go ahead of you.

3.        He will be with you;

4.        He will neither fail you nor abandon you.

I am praying for you. I see you and know you want to do what God is asking you to do. The struggle is you have things you need to release, some exchanges you need to make, and some truths you need to embrace, so you can move forward.

Like many Christian women, you feel called… called to more… called to lead.

You love God.
You want to live intentionally.
You want your life, your work, and your influence to matter, to make a difference, to point others to Jesus.

And yet—like so many, you feel stuck.

Not because you lack passion.
Not because you’re unwilling.
But because there are quiet, internal barriers that slowly hinder your leadership growth if they’re left unaddressed. It’s what the enemy is using to hold you back from stepping into your God given purpose and plan.

Over the past podcast episodes, we’ve been talking honestly about some of the most common—and most overlooked—things that hold Christian women back from stepping fully into embracing and growing into the leadership God is calling them to.

Not surface-level struggles.
Heart-level ones.

Let’s talk about them.

1. Feeling Called… but Lacking Clarity

Raise your hand if you can relate. I hear this over and over and over again from my clients, my peers, and even my friends. It’s one of the first leadership tensions women experience.

Have you said, I feel called to more… but I’m not sure what that looks like.

That lack of clarity can feel paralyzing. Instead of moving forward, you wait—thinking you need a full plan before you take a step.

But Scripture shows us that God often calls before He clarifies. Leadership doesn’t usually begin with certainty; it begins with obedience.

When we believe clarity must come before obedience, we unintentionally stall our growth. It’s true.

2. Feeling Unqualified or Inadequate

Another major leadership blocker is the belief that you are not “ready enough” yet.

You compare yourself to others.
You question your experience.
You replay your weaknesses in your mind and as you argue with God.

And eventually, insecurity convinces you to stay silent when God is inviting you to step forward.

But Scripture reminds us that calling is not based on merit—it’s rooted in God’s purpose. Competence grows as we go forward with Him, not before. He is more than enough and offers us everything we need.

When insecurity goes unchecked, it doesn’t keep us humble—it keeps us hidden. 🫣

3. Overthinking Instead of Trusting

Maybe your greatest struggle is not disobedience—but with overthinking.

You analyze.
You replay decisions.
You fear getting it wrong.

What often looks like wisdom on the surface can actually be fear-driven hesitation underneath.

Overthinking drains peace, clouds discernment, and shifts leadership from God-dependence to self-management.

At its core, overthinking isn’t a thinking problem—it’s a trust problem. A trust problem that delays our obedience. And delayed obedience is in fact disobedience. (Yikes!)

4. Worry That Undermines Leadership

Worry is one of the most subtle leadership deterrents.

It doesn’t feel rebellious.
It feels responsible.

But Jesus is clear—worry does not help you lead better. It steals peace, weakens confidence, and distracts us from Kingdom focus. We can’t live out Matthew 6:33, Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need and worry at the same time.

When we live in a constant state of anxiety about outcomes, approval, or provision, our leadership becomes reactive instead of intentional.

God never called us to lead from fear. He calls us to lead from trust.

Your Leadership Growth Begins with Inner Work

What all these leadership hindrances have in common is this:

They’re internal before they’re external.

God wants to work in us, so He can work through us. This is how He develops us into the leader He created us to become.

When clarity replaces confusion,
confidence replaces insecurity,
trust replaces overthinking,
and peace replaces worry—

Leadership becomes lighter.
Clearer.
More intentional.

And far more aligned with God’s plan.

The results? We get out of His way and He works through us to impact lives of those around us – at work, in our community, and at home.

Isn’t that what we all want? For our life to be used by God – to be salt and light in this dark world – to leave a lasting legacy of leading people to Jesus in the way we live our life and because we chose to walk in confident Christian influence.

An Invitation for You…

You were created to lead with confidence, clarity, and trust—right where God has placed you.

Don’t waste another day. Now is the time to grow into the leader God is calling you to become.

No matter what you do or where God has placed you. Regardless of your title and in spite of your mistakes, still He calls you forward. He has a plan to use you for His glory.

It’s true. You are called to lead. But know this… your leadership will not be tested in calm seasons — it will be revealed in the storms.

We don’t want to be women who lead faithfully when things are going well, but feel shaken when circumstances become uncertain, difficult, or demanding. Instead, we want to be steadfast and standing firm no matter what storm may come our way. It is in the storm where our resilience is rooted, where our trustworthiness is proven, and where God will use us the most.

Here is a truth I pray you will receive today.

To become the strong leader you are meant to be - you need both support and preparation.

Strong Leaders Still Need Support

One of the most common lies leaders believe is this: “If I’m strong, I shouldn’t need help.” But Scripture tells a very different story.

God designed leadership to be shared, supported, and strengthened through others. We were created to do life in community AND we are meant to lead in community. Consider the following stories:

• Moses, Aaron, and Hur

• Deborah and Barak

• David and Jonathan

• Nehemiah and the people

• Paul and Barnabas

• Jesus and the Twelve

See a clear pattern? We are not meant to lead alone. Jesus modeled this example for us to follow. His inner circle of 3 is one that we should work to emulate in our own life and leadership. Why? Because isolation weakens leaders, but support protects and strengthens them.

Strong leaders don’t avoid support. Instead, they find like-minded leaders who they trust to speak truth into their leadership and in return offer the same. Be intentional to find a community of leaders who love Jesus and use scripture as the standard for their leadership. This is the support every strong leader needs.

(Note: you may not have the support you need at your workplace, on the team where you serve, or even in your home. So, pray and ask God to help you find like-minded leaders who are solid and Christ-centered where you can support one another. Preparation Strengthens our Leadership

Another truth we must confront is this: some of us appear strong in calm seasons but unsteady in storms. This is what undermines our leadership. We must choose today to prepare for the storms so we can lead strong consistently.

The storms reveal what has already been formed. And the reality is storms come to everyone. The difference is not whether the storm arrives, but whether the foundation is firm. Strong leadership requires preparation long before pressure hits.

3 Steps to Prepare:

Here are three principles that help Christian leaders remain grounded, courageous, and calm — even when circumstances feel overwhelming.

1. Plan Ahead

Intentional leadership begins before the storm. Preparation is not panic — it is wisdom. Leaders prepare their hearts by consistently spending time in prayer, reading scripture, and making time to worship. These are not optional spiritual disciplines; they are formative practices that anchor us in truth and make us strong and steady.

2. Stand Firm

Storms test convictions.

Standing firm doesn’t mean pretending things aren’t hard. It means braving the wind while remaining anchored to biblical principles and trusting that God is with you in the storm. My favorite illustration of this is Peter walking on the water. How terrifying it must have felt to throw his leg over the side of the boat and step out on the water. But that is where in his weakness, Jesus’ strength was made perfect. Peter walked on the water. He trusted Jesus and 2,000 years later – God is still using this story to impact lives and make a difference. How might He use you and your steadfastness?

Courage in leadership is not the absence of fear — it’s obedience in the presence of it.

3. Remain Calm

Surrender the struggle. Calm leadership flows from surrender. Remember, this is not your burden to bear, your mountain to move, or your problem to solve. It is God’s. Your role is to be faithful.

When leaders try to control outcomes, carry every burden, or manage every detail, peace disappears. But when we come before God with empty hands — surrendering expectations, outcomes, and fears — we make room to receive what only He can provide.

Strength.
Wisdom.
Peace.
Clarity.

Calm in the storm does not come from knowing how things will end. It comes from trusting the One who holds it all.

Leadership That Lasts Through Every Season

God is not calling you to be impressive in fair weather. He is asking you to remain faithful, grounded, and steady when during calm seasons and when the storms come.

This type of leadership requires preparing ahead of time, standing firm on biblical truth, receiving support instead of isolating and surrendersing control to God.

This is the kind of leadership that reflects Christ — and influences others especially in difficult seasons.

As Believers, we are all called to lead. Leadership is really just influence and as salt and light – we should be making an impact in the lives of others. That is called leadership regardless of your title.

Carrying responsibility often leaves us wrestling with second-guessing, decision fatigue, and a quiet sense of unrest. We love God. We want to honor Him. We want to do the right thing for the right reason, yet, clarity feels elusive.

On my podcast, Confident Christian Influence podcast, I’ve been sharing a truth we need to hear on repeat:

Clarity, confidence, and peace in leadership are not found by trying harder — they are found through intentional obedience.

Here are some takeaways for us all to apply.

When Leadership Feels Heavy

Leadership feels heavy when decisions affect more than just ourselves.

Whether we’re leading at work, in ministry, in your home, or in your community, responsibility has weight. And when clarity feels uncertain, that weight often turns into hesitation, overthinking, and second-guessing.

Feeling this way doesn’t mean you’re failing as a leader. Often, it means you care deeply about honoring God and people — and that matters.

But heaviness can also be a signal.

Sometimes it’s an invitation to pause and ask:

• Am I leading with intention?

• Am I aligned with God’s plan, or simply responding to pressure?

• What is shaping my decisions right now?

God is not the author of confusion, and He doesn’t lead His people through chaos. Clarity comes when leadership is rooted in alignment, not urgency.

Wisdom, Discernment, and Decision-Making

Strong leaders don’t rush decisions — they discern them.

Wisdom and discernment are not about having all the answers immediately. They are about slowing down long enough to listen to God, weigh Scripture, and respond from conviction rather than pressure.

Many Christian women feel exhausted not because they lack ability, but because they are making too many decisions without peace. Discernment requires space. It requires reflection. And it requires obedience to what God has already made clear in His Word.

Before asking God for new direction, it’s often helpful to ask:

• Am I walking faithfully in the direction He has already given?

Obedience is not restrictive — it is clarifying. When leadership decisions are grounded in biblical truth, confidence grows quietly and steadily.

Intentional Leadership and Obedience

Obedience doesn’t happen accidentally.

Intentional leadership means choosing, on purpose, to align our lives and leadership with God’s instruction. And here’s a truth that can be uncomfortable but freeing:

Not being intentional can quietly become disobedience.

Not because we are rebellious — but because we are distracted.

Busyness, expectations, and full calendars can easily crowd out what God prioritizes:

• loving Him wholeheartedly

• loving others well

• seeking wisdom

• walking humbly

• influencing others toward Christ

When we drift from these priorities, leadership often begins to feel confusing and exhausting. But when obedience becomes intentional, clarity follows.

Time Management and Proper Priorities

Many leaders believe their biggest challenge is time management.

But more often than not, the issue isn’t time — it’s priorities.

God has given us instruction for how we are to steward our lives. Scripture reminds us to walk wisely, make the most of our time, and order our lives according to what matters most.

When our schedules are driven primarily by urgency, productivity, or self-focus, we experience pressure. But when priorities are shaped by God’s Word, leadership becomes lighter.

Not because responsibilities disappear — but because life is ordered intentionally.

Time management flows naturally from proper priorities. And proper priorities require obedience.

Leadership Is Not About Self-Focus

One of the quiet traps leaders fall into is turning inward.

When leadership becomes centered on managing ourselves, protecting our energy, or simply getting through our to-do lists, clarity fades. Scripture reminds us that leadership is outward-focused.

We are called to influence others.
We are called to lead by example.
And ultimately, we are called to point people to Jesus through our words, actions, and decisions.

When leadership is aligned with God’s purpose — not personal comfort — confidence grows and confusion loses its grip.

An Invitation to Lead Intentionally

You cannot step confidently into God’s plan if you’re still battling lies that keep you stuck and second-guessing your calling.

Whether you lead at work, in your home, at church, or in your community, your leadership rises or falls on what you believe—about God, about your purpose, and about yourself.

But here’s the good news:
Personal growth + spiritual truth = unstoppable clarity, confidence, and leadership capacity.

1. The Enemy’s Strategy Is Simple: Distract You With Lies

You want to live with intention, but intentionality gets derailed when we start believing lies like:

• “I’m just too difficult.”

• “I always mess things up.”

• “Everyone else has it figured out but me.”

• “I’m not cut out for leadership.”

Most of these lies didn’t start with you. They often come from unhealthy people, hurtful experiences, or moments when someone else’s brokenness shaped how you saw yourself.

But leaders who follow Jesus must anchor themselves to…

• truth, not emotion…

• clarity, not confusion…

• God’s plan, not the opinions of others.

2. Personal Growth Is Not Optional for Leaders—It’s Essential

Many people tell me they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of their next step. The real issue is they lack clarity, confidence and capacity. All of those things can increase when we focus on personal growth.

Personal growth creates:

• Clarity — so you can see where God is leading you. When you grow intentionally, it becomes easier to discern God’s priorities over the noise around you.

• Confidence — so you can lead boldly and make decisions without fear.  Confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything—it comes from becoming who God created you to be.

• Leadership Capacity — so you can influence others with wisdom, strength, and compassion. Growth expands your capacity to serve, lead, and steward the opportunities God places in front of you. Episode 205 of the Confident Christian Influence podcast walks you through the “why” and the “how” behind personal growth so you can rise into the leader God is calling you to become.

3. Lies Keep You Small. Growth Pulls You Forward.

If the enemy can get you to believe lies, he can keep you from stepping into the influence God has assigned to you. It began in the Garden of Eden. Why is it that we don’t expect it or recognize it happening in our own life?

When you intentionally grow—spiritually, emotionally, relationally—you begin to:

• Break limiting patterns

• Replace confusion with clarity

• Lead yourself well

• Influence others with intention

• Make decisions that align with God’s plan

• Walk confidently in your calling

Leadership is not a title. It is a daily decision to lead like Jesus, steward your influence well, and refuse to stay stuck. Leading requires moving forward. Think about it. If a leader isn’t going forward, how can anyone follow?

4. Three Truths Every Christian Leader Must Remember

Here are three reminders that anchor you in God’s truth—especially when lies start whispering:

1️⃣ You are chosen and called by God.

You were created on purpose, for a purpose, with a purpose. Regardless of how you feel – you were created to lead others and make an impact in their life.

2️⃣ You don’t have to be perfect—just obedient.

Leaders don’t wait until they feel ready. That’s probably not going to happen – especially if you are humble. However, we are to be obedient. That means that we move forward and walk in obedience to God and His word. There are a lot of action words in the Bible. Go. Do. Walk. Lead. Serve. Give.

3️⃣ You are responsible to grow.

Roman’s 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

We are to be on a path to complete transformation – going from our old self and transforming into the likeness of Christ. It won’t be complete until we step into Heaven, but until then we should be growing consistently.

Invest in your personal growth. It opens the door to more influence and greater clarity.

Ask yourself:

• What lie has been limiting my leadership?

• Where is God calling me to grow right now?

• What would change if I led with clarity and confidence instead of fear or doubt?

Most of us could raise our hand high! Some of us might have a pride issue instead of true confidence. We hear a lot about self-confidence, yet as believers we know that it is not confidence in ourselves we need, but confidence in the One who said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

Have you ever considered that your lack of confidence could have to do with you believing some things about you that simply are not true. Maybe you feel inferior to others, have a critical inner voice, feel incompetent, unworthy, fearful, and even flawed. Hmmm…I cannot find the scriptures that say those things about you.

What I can find are scriptures that say…

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. John 15:16a

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! 1John 3:1

You see, our lack of belief in God’s word (I know it hurts to hear that, but we must deal with our unbelief.), our faulty thoughts, and our lack of confidence are a problem. They are what stand in the way of us walking in confident Christian influence and impacting the lives of others. Jesus says go tell others about me. Satan says, you? No you are not the one to do that. Who are you listening to?

Did you answer the question? Who are you listening to?

So, what can you do today to decide to walk in confidence – not because of who you are – but because of whose you are? You can take your eyes off yourself – your thoughts, your feelings, and your assumptions – and fix your eyes on Jesus. He is the One, the only One who will never leave you or forsake you. He is the example we are to follow. We are to rise up and lead like Jesus.

I have some resources that can help you do just that…

1.     The Truth Journal – I could never truly explain the impact it has had in my life to replace lies with the truth of God’s word. I am consistently asking myself, “who told you that?”. If I cannot answer myself that God said it – then I go find a truth to replace it with. I love reading through my Truth journals because they keep me centered on the truth of God’s word and they remind me what God has been teaching me and revealing to me for years. That is so powerful. He gives us what we need personally. (Link to Truth Journal)

2.     Take your thoughts captive. What you think determines what you feel and what you feel determines what you do. You and your thoughts are standing in the way of you fulfilling God’s plan for your life. Do an inventory of your thoughts. Did you know that when you find a faulty thought, you can replace it with the correct thought and it will change how you feel which will ultimately change what you do. It just might cause you to walk in obedience and become the leader God planned for you to become.

3.     Make the Right Decisions today. We often say things like, “I’m working on it” or “I’m trying”. Sorry – that is just an excuse to not do it. What if instead, you just made a decision? In episode 202 of the Confident Christian Influence, I share 3 decisions that will immediately boost your confidence and therefore, help you grow your influence and impact. I challenge you to listen and give it a try. Then report back to me and let me know how it’s going.

You have everything you need to become who God is calling you to become. How do I know. Because I know Him. He is more than enough. Yes, I know it is scary and uncomfortable to see yourself as a leader. I recognize it is easier to shrink back than it is to rise up. But I also know, that standing in the center of His will and doing what He has created you to do is the best place in the whole wide world to be. It is worth a little discomfort to find your way there.

Leadership is really just influence. We are all influencing others in ways we don’t even realize. Today, I want to encourage you to open your eyes and notice the people around you who look to you. They are there, watching and being influenced.

We fail to notice the way our family pays more attention to what we do than what we say. We don’t even realize the people in our community that know who we are and are watching how we live out our life. We put our head down at work and do our best to complete our tasks, never realizing the people who are being affected by the way we show up to work.

Influence = leadership and today you have a great opportunity to choose to become the leader you were created to become. What will you do?

It starts in your mind.

Before you take action…
Before you influence anyone…
Before you step boldly into God’s calling…

Your thoughts either fuel your leadership or sabotage it.

And most often?
It’s not lack of skill, credentials, or opportunity that holds us back. It’s the quiet narratives we allow to run on autopilot in our minds.

1. Your Thoughts Shape Your Leadership Capacity

Scripture tells us to take every thought captive because God knows—if we don’t discipline our minds, our lives will drift in the wrong direction. We will listen to the lies of the enemy, start to feel discouraged and then – shrink back. I hear the story over and over and over again from my clients. They have this thought, accept it as their reality, it makes them feel defeated, so they pull back. And in full disclosure, I have done this as well.

Can we all say – No MORE!

You see our thoughts ultimately determine:

• How we show up

• How we speak

• How we react

• How we lead

• How we influence the world around us

Faulty thoughts—like “I’m not enough,” “I’m not ready,” “I can’t do this,” or “What if I fail?”—don’t just stay thoughts. They determine our feelings. And we allow our feelings to determine our actions.

My beloved mentor, Andy Horner, used to say you cannot feel your way into acting. You have to act your way into feeling. For instance, maybe you don’t feel like a leader or a person who influences others. So do it anyway – over and over again - and you will begin to feel like you are making a difference… influencing… leading.

This is why building a “Truth Bank” matters.
When you intentionally stockpile 3–5 Scriptures that directly confront your most common lies, you create a way to stop the thought spiral, interrupt the emotion, and align your actions with God’s Word. (Check out the resource I have for you. Gain Access HERE.)

2. If we Don’t Name and Tame our Thoughts, We Make Excuses

What excuses do you make when it comes to rising up and leading? What have you claimed and therefore limited yourself? Which ones do you use to make you feel better about your disobedience?

Excuses like:

• I don’t feel like it.

• I fear I will fail.

• I don’t have the personality.

• It’s out of my comfort zone.

• I am not qualified

But here’s the truth:
Excuses are simply fear dressed up as logic.

Excuses help us to avoid discomfort, but it also robs us of growth. They feel safer in the moment but cost us influence in the long run. Therefore, we shrink back.

Let’s all say – No MORE!

The enemy wants to keep you stuck.
God wants to lead you forward.
And the battlefield between those two voices is always in your MIND.

God reminds us that transformation doesn’t start with action — it starts with renewing our thinking.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

When your thoughts align with truth, excuses lose their power.

3. Leaders Act Out of Truth — Not Fear

When God called Joshua to lead Israel into the promised land, He didn’t give him a strategy first.
He gave him a thought command:

“Be strong and of good courage… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

God knew Joshua’s courage wouldn’t come from:

• His résumé

• His personality

• His past experiences

It would come from what he believed.

So, here is an important question for you to ask yourself…

If your actions feel small, inconsistent, hesitant, insecure, or delayed… it’s not a behavior problem. It’s a belief problem.

That hurst, doesn’t it. But there is a way to change that. You can decide today

·      to believe what God says in His word

·      to claim it as your reality

·      to live it out every day for the rest of your life

It just might change everything!

So, take your thoughts captive and change them so they align with the truth of God’s word. Stop making excuses. Decide today that you will believe the truth of God’s word so you can think truth, write truth, speak truth, and live truth.

And all God’s people said, “Amen!”

Do you have margin?

It may seem small, but it’s a really big deal.

If you don’t have any margin - you know, blank space - in your life, then you probably don’t have much peace, clarity, or confidence either. Without margin, you feel scattered and unsure because you are moving too fast. While you should be feeling more confident at this stage in your life - you feel insecure and maybe even a little defeated.

We look at others who are calm, confident, and exude a strong presence and we can’t imagine how they got there.

Well… it all starts with some space to make the right choices. Let’s talk through one small choice that will yield great results. Ready?

Create Margin in your life.

Restrain yourself from focusing on all the excuses for why you cannot have margin. That is simply not true. You can have margin. And it is so important that you become intentional to create it. This is one thing I love to do with my clients. We intentionally carve out some blank space. I have yet to meet anyone where we couldn’t find some margin.

Lie: I am so busy and don’t have a single second for myself.

Truth: I have the same amount of time as everyone else on this planet. Some are doing much more than me. I can steward my time and make better decisions to allow me margin.

When you make the time to get up and get in the Word, it gives God the space to prepare you for your day. When you factor in some short walks where you breathe in the fresh air and talk to God, it clears your mind and fixes your focus. When you schedule a long hot bath before bed, you let your body relax and your remember to thank God for all the blessing in your life.

There are many benefits for creating margin.

• Clarity of mind.

• Clearer direction

• Better decision making

• Perspective shifts

• Opportunity to Reflect

• Space to process

• Intentionality

• And many more

Studies show that when you create margin in your life it changes the way you view your responsibilities. Without margin our responsibilities feel like more than one can do. With margin, the same responsibilities begin to feel manageable. Why? Because we are able to think and process more clearly.

Being busy is a tactic of the enemy. He doesn’t have to make you bad, he just has to make you think you are too busy and too tired to get in the Word or to spend time focusing on what God wants you to do.

Do you know that this margin you create and use wisely can also help you grow your confidence. It’s true. First, by spending time in the word, you become more confident in who God is because you get to know Him more. You are reminded of His faithfulness. As your confidence in Him grows, you become more confident in who you are because of whose you are. You can think more clearly. You recognize the lies of the enemy and step boldly into who it is God says you are. (I’ll link an Identity sheet.)

This blank space can be used to help you become more stable as you build your day, your year, your life on a firm foundation.

It will help you fix your focus. You will take your eyes off yourself and fix your eyes on Jesus. Locking eyes with Him empowers you to take the steps He is asking you to take.

Then your stance will become consistent. You will stand firm no matter what comes your way. No more being tossed to and fro.

This works. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you may be facing. It doesn’t matter if it is a small struggle, a huge problem, or a need that needs to be met. You have everything you need in order to rise up and lead well.

Let’s break it down and make it super easy for you to remember…

STEP ONE: L = LEAN IN

The world tries to convince you to go it alone. The enemy is working double time to isolate you. You are looking inward and convincing yourself that you don’t have what it takes to lead. So what should you do? Lean in.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6

As a believer, you can lean into the truth in God’s word, you can lean into your relationship with Jesus, and you can lean into the promptings of the Holy Spirit. You certainly don’t want to lean on your own thoughts, opinions, and ideas – especially if they are not lining up with truth.

And if you have found your way here and are reading this and you just aren’t sure about all this Christian stuff. Well, this still applies to you. Lean into truth. The Bible is filled with truths. Read a chapter in Proverbs every day and your wisdom will grow.

You can also lean into the examples of others. There are leaders you admire and you want to lead like them. Then there are leaders who have failed you over and over again and this is God’s way of showing you who you do not want to be like.

There are so many other things for you to lean into – but this is a great start an we will add to the list another day.

STEP TWO: E = ELEVATE YOUR PERSPECTIVE

We tend to think in the here and now. We only see ourselves and how the situation will impact us. Then our feelings enter in and we go deeper into our hurt or disappointment. But what if we were to zoom out and see things from a higher vantage point. You know, consider how God might see this.

If we elevated our perspective , we might realize that every situation we encounter is an opportunity to lead. We get to display our inner strength and our intentions to do what is good. This is what Jesus is referring to when He tells us that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

How can we stay strong and see beyond the tip of our nose? How do we become resilient enough to consider others more than ourselves and choose to lead them through the situation. Shouldn’t we recognize that every obstacle is a page in our testimony?

My life verse applies here…

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

STEP THREE: A = ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY

Be careful. Our flesh wants to focus on our rights, what is fair, and demanding we get our way. But, as Believers, we have responsibilities. We should stay in God’s word, understand what our responsibilities are and then walk in obedience to them.

When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required. Luke 12:48

We have responsibilities to love and to serve. We must speak truth in love. We are to seek what is just and right. We should stand firm on the foundation of Jesus Christ. We aren’t to people please, but live to please one. And we aren’t to look after our own interest, but the interest of others. We could go on and on.

As a Daughter of the King, you have been commissioned. You are to live your life on purpose choosing to lead with integrity. Being intentional to influence others for the Kingdom. We are to embrace who we are because of Whose we are. That should change everything about you – what you say, what you think, and what you do.

STEP FOUR: DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THE RIGHT REASON

Doing the right thing for the wrong reason – is still wrong. Doing the wrong thing for the right reason is still wrong. We must choose to do the right thing for the right reason.

It’s a heart issue. What is our motive? What is driving our actions? What do we hope to accomplish?

Our only answer should be to obey the Lord and bring honor to His name.

My family is walking through an incredibly difficult time.

Our former youth minister committed sexual battery against one of my family members. That in itself is horrific. But we continue to see leader after leader fail miserably – the judge in this case, church leaders, school board members, teachers and other prominent people in our community. Many are mandated reporters who should be screaming the loudest over the injustice we face.

So, let me bring you up to date. We have known about the abuse – the sexual battery - for a year and this year has been long and it has been extremely difficult – especially for the victim but also for the entire family. It truly has impacted all of us in many ways. And in ways that you would never imagine. I can’t get into all of it today because we would be here for hours. I will share that we did not receive justice in that courtroom. The case was extremely strong and the judge awarded an unbelievable weak sentence - that we have now learned was an illegal sentence. Please be praying for justice of our family.

As someone who values leadership – I am so disappointed by so many leaders who have led soft when they should have led strong. I talk a lot about leadership – at women’s events, at business events, from stages, in groups, and as I work with individual clients. Leadership is my jam. And we have a problem. We need strong leaders! Will you be one?

I am in the hardest season of my life – where I must walk out what I talk about. I will lead strong in this season, I will set an example of strong leadership, and I fix my eyes on Jesus and lead like Him.

I’m always talking about some aspect of leadership. But today, I am addressing the problem with shrinking back, soft leadership, and leaders who fail.

When you are a leader – you are held to a higher standard. I believe every Christian is called to lead. During this last year – we have been directly impacted by leaders who have misled in this courtroom, in the church, in our community, and even in the marketplace. And what these leaders have failed to see – is that the hurt goes beyond our family and impacts so many lives.

When we don’t lead strong and stand firm, we fail.

Our example of leadership is Jesus. Yes, He showed compassion and mercy and sacrificial love, but He had courage and resolve. He fought for the vulnerable. He upheld the truth. He demanded a high standard. And He made an eternal impact.

Please note, Jesus was not a soft leader. He did not stay quiet about injustice. He was not prideful or arrogant. He was willing to be uncomfortable. He had hard conversations. He spoke truth in love. He sacrificed Himself in order to lead well.

 So, what can we as Believers do? Here are some practical tips. They are simple – but they are so important.

1.     Rise up. Decide today that when a situation comes your way you will not shrink back – but you will rise-up and and lead well. The question should not be, “What should we do?” The question should be,  “How do I lead well – even in this?”

2.     Take the appropriate steps. If a crime has been committed – call the authorities immediately. Have policies and procedures in place and act on them quickly. If an employee shared inaccurate numbers or misled a customer, take the appropriate steps to right the wrong. If your child misbehaves, hold them accountable and use age appropriate consequences to discourage repeated behavior.

3.     Do the right thing for the right reason. I could give so many examples here. But I’m going to be specific – not out of anger – but because it is important. Our pastor was not in the courtroom with us and it was so hurtful. They said they received legal counsel to not attend. This makes no sense to me. What legal threat was it for them to stand with the victim who was sexually battered by one of their staff? What would Jesus do? Would he value legal counsel over scripture and prayer? The point for you is – as a leader it is important to show up for those who God has entrusted you to lead. It is a heart matter. Do the right thing for the right reasons. When you do, you will honor God.

4.     Don’t let pride stop you from saying I messed up, I’m sorry, I withdraw my support or I was playing Savior. Strong leaders know how to acknowledge their failures. Doing so is the only way to fail forward – to learn and to grow and to become more like Jesus. The judge awarded an illegal sentence of house arrest. A business owner further abused us by making the predator the face of her boutique. A School Board member and a former police chief – along with others whose names have not been released yet – wrote letters to help secure leniency for the predator. A teacher took the stand to not only defend the predator but to shame the victim. And the church we attended – even after the abuse – failed to stand firm until the end. A public apology to the victim and her family would not only go along way to heal our hearts – but would make an impact in our community. I would be remiss as a strong leader to not ask those who have failed grossly – to decide today to do the right thing for the right reason – acknowledge fault, ask forgiveness, and commit to do better.

5.     Don’t grow bitter and don’t lose hope. Right now, I could have raging anger and most would support me. Right now, I could choose to hate those who failed us and most would not fault me. Right now, I could go on a crusade to destroy those who have hurt us and many would rally behind me. But instead, I will walk out Philippians 2:3-4 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

If you don’t know me, know this – Jesus is my hope. He is my Savior and my Friend. I trust Him in the midst of all of this devastation we are walking through.

I will not be selfish and seek what is best for me. For instance – I could be in a resort right now, doing red light therapy, and trying to think positive thoughts. Instead – I am choosing to fight for what is right, what is just, and do what I believe Jesus would do.

And I will look out for the interest of others. Our precious brave and strong loved one is not the first victim and won’t be the last. This case has revealed a lot of reform that needs to take place and we as Believers need to lead the charge.

Jesus mentions the vulnerable countless times. His teaching are filled with the concept of doing what is good and what is right. And His message is all about Truth – He is declares that He is Truth.

Therefore, we must fight to protect the vulnerable. We must rise up and do what is right. And we must stand firm on the truth of God’s word.

Have you ever caught yourself waiting—waiting for someone to notice your potential, invite you to lead, or give you permission to pursue what God has already placed in your heart? Honestly, I already know the answer. We have all been there… waiting… wondering… making excuses… and being distracted by all the other things happening in our life.

Can I be honest? We don’t want to believe it could be true. But we need to ask ourselves, “Who told me that?, Who told me to wait?” If we cannot say that God is asking us to wait – then it could be a tactic of the enemy. I know that is not what you want to hear. Our heart wants to obey God, but we also love our comfort zone and easily listen to these lies because it keeps up all snuggled up and comfy.

Can we chat about WHY it is so important that we start taking steps forward to become the leader God created us to be?

·      Obedience matters. (If you love me, obey my commandments. John 14:15)

·      Influence matters. (You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world. Read Matthew 5:13-16

·      Legacy matters. (Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6:7)

So, today I want to share 3 things to think about…

First, What Will your Legacy Be?

Your legacy isn’t a thing you leave behind. We tend to focus on leaving a financial inheritance or maybe some property for our children. But your legacy can be so much more than that and should impact people at work, in your community, as well as continuing beyond your children and grandchildren.

The legacy that matters will include the impact you have made on others during your life and the changes you inspired them to make. Your legacy includes your love for Jesus, the examples you set, and the wisdom you share.

Let’s be intentional about legacy building…

• Define your core values and purpose. 

• It is easy to say, not so easy to live out. What are your core values? List them. What scriptures are those values based on? It is important these are who you are and what you do no matter who you are with or even if you are alone.

• You can’t live a life of purpose – if you aren’t intentional about fulfilling your purpose. It requires prayer and focus to get on the path to your purpose.

• Make a positive impact on others. Your influence is not about position but about obedience. Ask yourself the hard questions…

• Am I exemplifying my core values and walking in purpose?

• Whose life is being impacted by the way I live?

• Share your heart, wisdom, and experiences. When you pour into others, you multiply your impact. More hard questions…

• If Christianity was a sport, would I be a spectator or a star player?

💡 Scripture Focus: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16

Your leadership legacy begins with the small daily decisions to follow Jesus’ example—serving others, walking in truth, and leaving behind a trail of faith that outlives you.

(Check out Episode 188 of the Confident Christian Influence podcast, I dive into what it looks like to build a lasting legacy of faith and influence. It will help your re-center your life as you are reminded to lead like Jesus and make an eternal impact.)

Next, you don’t need anyone’s permission.

Too many gifted, called women are waiting—waiting for clarity, approval, or perfect timing. But when God calls you, that is your permission slip.

Has our desire for comfort and fear of backlash led us to avoid confronting uncomfortable truths or challenge the status quo? Whose permission do we need to rise up and share truth? Why have we sat back and watched our nation grow darker?

We already have permission, God is calling you to step into purposeful leadership. His call is simple, follow Jesus and lead others to Him as you fulfill the calling on your life.

Now that you know your permission slip has been signed…

• Seek Clarity around WHO called you. God is calling His daughter into her next assignment. You are a Daughter of the King, but if we aren’t careful, our life looks the same as our lost neighbors.

• Release the Need to be Ready. Confidence is built in motion. It’s okay to start messy. You lean into your faith and take one step at a time. God will show up and meet you there. He will be faithful to help you. No need to figure out the future. With God, there is not a 5 or 10 year plan. There is something far better. The gift of eternity with Him.

• Respond with Obedience. Remember, God is concerned with the condition of your heart. He wants you to trust Him and when you do, you aren’t afraid to take a step forward. Even small steps of obedience will open doors and lead you forward.

It’s time to rise up and lead—not because you feel ready, but because you trust the One who called you. Your influence is needed right where you are. Stop asking, ‘Who am I to lead?’ and start declaring, “God chose me for this.”

Lastly, Leadership Leaves a Mark

Think about the leaders you have served under who were not who they pretended to be. Consider the damage they caused, the disappointment, the hurt that was inflicted. That is not the kind of mark you want to leave. Then think about the good leaders who God has used to impact your life. Consider the lessons they taught you, the inspiration, and the encouragement to do the right thing for the right reason. This is the type of mark you want to leave on others.

You are a leader – because you have influence in the lives of others. What kind of leader do you want to be? Are you intentionally being that leader?

When we combine intentional legacy-building with bold obedience, we become women who lead like Jesus—servant-hearted, Spirit-led, and courage-filled.

Your influence is on display whether you are mentoring a coworker, raising your kids in truth, or leading a team at work. Your impact multiplies when you lean into the truth of God’s word and live with intention. That’s the type of mark you want to leave on others.

Do you ever feel scattered, overwhelmed, or stuck in cycles of fear and striving? You’re not alone. We often juggle countless responsibilities — at work, in our homes, and in our communities. But here’s the truth: we don’t have to lead from chaos. Let me rephrase that – we shouldn’t be leading from a place of chaos. Why? Because we can lead from clarity, confidence, and freedom when we anchor ourselves in biblical principles.

It sounds easy. But it’s not. Distractions are everywhere — from phone notifications to shopping ads to comparison and to negative thoughts. Instead of being fixed and focused on pursing God’s plan for us and fulfilling His purposes – we are bouncing all over the place and forgetting to make the main thing the main thing. Instead, we make our busyness, our overwhelm, and our chaos the main thing.

Then there are myths we believe. Well, let’s call them what they are – lies. We have bought into the lie that we are too busy, too old, not equipped, not ready, sure to fail, not worthy, and too tired from keeping it all going to be able to consider stepping into our God-given calling. Oh the lies that we believe.

We are so distracted and disillusioned that we don’t recognize these as tactics from our enemy. You see, Satan doesn’t have to make us bad, he just keeps us busy and distracted from spending time in God’s word and choosing to walk in obedience to Him.

But there is a way off this hamster wheel.

1.     Build your faith muscle – It takes intention, practice, and repetition.

a.     Be intentional to get in the Word consistently

b.     Practice journaling and memorizing scripture

c.     Repeatedly spend time in prayer and invite Jesus into your quiet time.

2.     Fix your Focus – We need to leave distraction behind and become focused.

a.     Identify your distractions and overcome them

b.     Name where you want your focus to be.

c.     Be intentional to focus on what matters and watch your influence grow.

3.     Walk in Freedom – The Truth empowers us to live and lead in freedom.

a.     Learn to be a myth buster and stop believing the lies.

b.     Biblical truth brings clarity, confidence, and peace.(Ahhh.)

c.     Freedom empowers you to lead boldly and authentically.

Have you ever asked yourself, “Do I really make a difference?” We all wonder that from time to time. It’s normal to wrestle with this question. As a Believer, you are called to make a difference, to be different, and to lead. Whether you’re leading at work, in your home, or in your community, it can feel like your influence goes unnoticed. But here’s the truth: when you align your life with God’s purpose, your impact echoes into eternity.

In this post, I want to share three biblical ways to rise up and make an intentional impact—and a simple faith journaling method that will help you strengthen your walk with God.

1. Grow Your Faith Muscle 💪🏻

If you want to make a lasting impact as a leader, it begins with your faith. Faith is the foundation of confident Christian influence—it shapes the way you lead, love, and serve.

Like a physical muscle, your faith muscle grows through intention, practice, and repetition. That means:

• Spending daily time in God’s Word.

• Praying with boldness and consistency.

• Choosing to trust God when circumstances feel uncertain.

Every time you exercise your faith, you strengthen your influence as a servant leader who points others to Jesus.

You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. Matthew 17:21

I love the imagery of the mustard seed. It is the smallest seed the farmer plants but grows into a really big bush and produces many, many more mustard seeds. So, focus on growing your faith and your relationship with Jesus and watch it multiply in ways you never imagined.

2. Shift Your Focus from Problems to God’s Truth

One of the greatest leadership challenges we face is where we place our focus. If your mind stays on problems, struggles, and fears, they will only grow bigger. But when you shift your focus to God’s truth, your perspective transforms. Your problems pale in comparison to the greatness of God.

Scripture reminds us: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2). By fixing your focus on who God is and what He says about you, you gain clarity, peace, and renewed confidence to influence others in a positive, Christ-centered way.

Tip: Learn to keep a Truth Journal. It is life changing and will help you identify the lies you believe and replace them with the Truth of God’s word. Also, there is no my truth and your truth – there is no my story and your story – there is only truth. If it is not true it is not from God and is in fact a lie of the enemy. Be careful what you believe. Make sure it lines up with truth.

3. Walk in the Freedom Christ Offers

True Christian leadership flows out of freedom. Freedom from guilt. Freedom from fear. Freedom from the lies the enemy wants you to believe. Freedom from comparison. Freedom from people pleasing. Freedom from the thing that is holding you back. True freedom.

When you choose to walk in freedom, you step into your God-given calling with boldness. You no longer second-guess your qualifications—you embrace your identity in Christ and live with intentional impact, whether that’s in the office, around the dinner table, or in your church.

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. John 8:36

The Journal Method: A Simple Faith Practice

In Episode 185 of the podcast, I introduced a new tool to help you grow your faith with consistency. (It drops on Thursday. Be sure to listen - Ep 185.)

Here’s how it works:

1. Brain Dump – Before you read Scripture, write down everything on your mind—your worries, to-dos, distractions. This clears your mind to receive His word.

2. Read & Reflect – Open your Bible or devotional and let God’s Word speak to your heart. It helps to pray before and ask God to reveal what He has for you today. Also, open your hands as a gesture to receive.

3. Apply the Truth – Go back to your journal and apply the Scripture you read to what you previously journaled in your brain dump. Some days there will be some correlation, other days there will be a direct and clear answer to what you wrote.

This method clears your mind, centers your heart, and allows you to connect God’s truth to your everyday challenges. It’s one of the most practical ways to grow your faith muscle and lead with influence.

Have you ever wondered if you’re really called to more and felt unsure of what that “more” even is? You’re not alone. For years, I doubted myself and compared my leadership to others… until I discovered the truth about Confident Christian Influence.

CONFIDENT… Where is our confidence? I am not referring to self-confidence, but confidence that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do. Because we have confidence in God, we can be confident in doing what He is calling us to do. You see, having confidence in His word means we know that He is with us, He will not forsake us, He will strengthen us, and He will provide everything we need to continue forward.

 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

Our lack of confidence could be that we are listening to the hisses of the enemy and choosing to believe the lies that we could never lead, or have the hard conversation, or step out of our comfort zone, or rise up to make a difference. What might happen if instead you began to believe that God is who He says He is and that He is with you?

CHRISTIAN… What does it mean to be a Christian? It means that we have recognized that we could never be holy and therefore deserve hell. We realize there is nothing we can do to save ourselves, so we need the Savior. We repent and invite Jesus into our heart as our Savior and when we do - we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Becoming a Christian should change everything about our life. It should be the foundation of what we say and what we do as followers of Christ. You see God poured out His love by sending His Son to pay the penalty for our sin to adopt us into His family as Children of God.

As a child of God, we should begin to resemble our Savior. Instead of trying to act Christ-like, we should surrender our ways to His ways so we can grow to become more and more like Christ. There should be a family resemblance because we take on the attributes of God and produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Being a Christian is what defines us. It is our identity.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22

This fruit, His attributes, are what causes us to look different and behave differently from those who don’t know Him. You see, our love for Jesus should compel us to walk in obedience to God’s word. It’s choosing daily – maybe even moment by moment – to remember who we are because of Whose we are.

INFLUENCE…  Don’t believe the lie that you are not influencing anyone - because you are. People are watching you and they are affected by what you do and say, as well as by what you don’t do and don’t say. It can feel overwhelming to think about because we are human and will surely fail. So, our goal is not to be perfect. Our goal is to like salt and light.

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:13-14

How are we to be like salt? We should affect the world around us just like salt adds flavor to food. And if we aren’t, we are worthless to the Kingdom. Yikes! That should be enough motivation right there to become intentional about your influence. We should not blend in, we should be set apart. We shouldn’t isolate, because we lose the opportunity to impact others. We should influence others and make a meaningful impact, just like salt brings out the best flavor in food.

How are we to be like light? Living for Jesus means we glow like lights shining brightly with His love. Those who are living in spiritual darkness will be attracted to the light. Don’t believe the lie that your light is not impacting others. Keep showing up and shining brightly. Do not hide it by being afraid to share Him, by going along with the crowd when you know you shouldn’t, denying the truth of His word, by not giving Him glory, or by ignoring the needs of others. Love well. Speak Truth. Keep showing up.

As a Believer, you are called to lead with purpose and walk in confident Christian influence all day everyday – at work, in your community, and at home. You have been commissioned. Now, what will you do?

You may not feel like a leader every day.

You might feel like a mom holding it all together.
A business owner juggling a dozen decisions.
A woman showing up, day after day, doing what needs to be done.

But here’s the truth: you are leading someone.

Leadership is influence and how you lead matters more than you think.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” — Colossians 3:23

You may not stand on a stage or carry a title, but your influence is being carried into the hearts of your coworkers, your children, your team, your clients, your friends — every single day.

And the good news? You don’t have to lead perfectly or loudly. You just have to be intentional and quietly choose to lead well.

Leading well looks like:

• Being rooted in God’s presence before rushing into your plans

• Choosing compassion over control when you’re frustrated (this can be challenging 😳)

• Speaking truth with grace, even when it’s hard

• Making decisions through the lens of eternity, not urgency (write this one down!)

You don't need the approval of the world. You don’t even need the approval of those that are the closest to you. You only need to allow your relationship with Jesus to shape the way you lead. Why?

Because when you lead well, you leave a legacy.

Not one built on performance — but on purpose.

Leading well and leaving a legacy of purpose driven impact matters. It matters to God, it matters to those in your sphere of influence, therefore it should matter to you.

Let’s choose to lead well. Remember, we are called to follow Jesus and to lead others to Him. (Salt and Light = influence. Influence = Leadership)

Because we are called to lead. (Need a reminder? You are the “salt of the earth”, the “light of the world”. Go read Matthew 5.

Because how we lead will echo far beyond today and even far beyond us.

I used to pack my suitcase with all the “must-haves” — sunscreen, sunglasses, flip-flops, a good book, snacks for the road, and of course, all the cute outfits. But for years, I left behind one of the most essential things: my Bible.

Vacation was meant to be a break — a time to unwind, unplug, and rest. But somewhere along the way, I had separated rest from the One who gives it. I thought vacation was a pause from the routine, but I didn’t realize I was pausing the very thing that replenished me most.

That’s changed now.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:28-29

These days, my Bible and devotional are the first things I pack. They’re not an afterthought — they’re essentials. My husband and I have discovered something sweet in the stillness of vacation mornings. We wake up unrushed. We pour a cup of coffee, open the Word, and we linger. We read together, reflect, and talk about what God is teaching us. There’s no deadline, no alarm, no hurry. Just peace and God’s presence.

There’s something sacred about slowing down with scripture. I love the way God meets us when we’re finally still enough to listen. And something powerful happens when we share that space with our spouse — when we grow in our faith together. We’ve laughed, cried, and prayed side by side on beach chairs, cabin porches, and piled up in the center of the hotel bed. Those moments have knit our hearts closer to God and to each other.

So if you're planning a getaway — whether it’s to the mountains, the beach, or just a cozy staycation — don’t forget the true essentials. Bring your Bible, pack your devotional, and make space to rest not just from your life, but in the presence of the One who gives it. And if you have children - teens, tweens, or tots with you - nothing better to do together than read God’s word. Read a few scriptures and talk about what they mean, then read a few more.

Because the most refreshing thing you’ll encounter on vacation… is Him.

As Christian women called to lead (yes, I’m talking about you) — whether in the boardroom, at home, or in ministry — it's easy to slip into leading from pressure, performance, or even pride. But Jesus calls us to a different way — one anchored in surrender, humility, and truth.

Before you step into your next decision, meeting, or moment of influence, pause and ask yourself these five questions:

1. Where in my leadership am I relying more on myself than on Jesus?
   Self-reliance feels efficient, but it often leads to burnout. Jesus invites us to walk with Him — not just for Him. When we surrender our leadership to Him, He shows up to lead through us.

2. How can I practice servant leadership this week — especially when it’s inconvenient?
   Real leadership looks like kneeling before it climbs. Who around you needs your presence more than your performance? Remember to consider those at work, those in your community, and those at home.

3. Which fruit of the Spirit do I need more of in my leadership?
   Is it patience in hard conversations? Joy in dry seasons? Self-control when you're stretched thin? Let the Holy Spirit lead you and He will provide what you need.

4. Are my decisions being shaped more by external pressure or eternal truth?
   Culture will push you to impress. Christ calls you to obey. Choose the lasting over the loud. (Stay centered on truth. I want to type that 1,000 times because we so easily start to believe, think, and say things that are not truth. We must stop it. If it doesn’t line up with God’s word, it’s not true.)

5. Who in my circle is watching how I lead — and what are they seeing about Jesus through me?
   Your leadership is a witness. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be present and intentional. In Matthew 5:14 Jesus is speaking and says, You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. This means that those who are living in spiritual darkness will be attracted by our light and want to step into it. Jesus’ light always reveals truth. Let your light shine. God will use it to change lives.

Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking the right questions and inviting Jesus to lead through you — moment by moment, day by day, conversation by conversation. Be present and see the opportunities God is bringing into your life to lead others to Him.

Have you ever stopped to consider the power of your presence? Whether you’re leading a team of executives, having coffee with a peer, or playing on the floor with your grandchild, you are influencing someone. The question isn’t if you are influencing others — the question is how.

Scripture reminds us that influence is not about position or popularity. It’s about presence, purpose, and intentionality.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.”— Matthew 5:14 (NLT)

Jesus didn’t say, “You might be” or “You could be” the light. He said, you are. As a follower of Christ, your life is meant to shine — in boardrooms, breakrooms, and living rooms. Wherever you go, you carry the light of Christ with you, and that light has the power to push back darkness in others’ lives.

Influence Starts with Intentionality

Too often, we get caught up in the rush of daily life and miss the opportunities right in front of us. But when we pause and ask, “Who has God placed in my path today?” our eyes begin to open. Influence isn’t always loud or public. It’s often quiet and personal — a word of encouragement, a listening ear, or a helping hand.

“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” — Ephesians 5:15-16 (NLT)

Every conversation is a chance to plant a seed. Every meeting is an opportunity to model grace. Every moment with a child or grandchild is a time to build legacy. When we choose to walk wisely and use our time with intention, we begin to live out our influence on purpose.

Influence Isn’t Always Instant

It’s easy to grow discouraged when we don’t see immediate results. But Kingdom influence is often slow-growing and long-lasting. Think about Paul, who discipled Timothy, a young leader in the faith. Or Lois and Eunice, whose faith helped shape Timothy’s heart long before Paul ever came along (2 Timothy 1:5). Their influence wasn’t flashy — it was faithful.

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” — Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

Whether you’re mentoring future leaders at work or pouring into the next generation at home, your impact matters. Keep planting. Keep pouring. Keep showing up.

Influence That Reflects Christ

At the heart of intentional influence is this: we reflect Jesus. We lead like Him. Love like Him. Serve like Him. And when people encounter us, they get a glimpse of the One who gave His life for them.

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father..” — Matthew 5:16 (NLT)

That’s the goal of godly influence — not to build our own name, but to point others to His.

Who’s in Your Circle?

Today, take a moment and look around. Who has God placed in your circle? A coworker wrestling with anxiety? A friend who needs prayer? A child who needs your attention?

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be available. Show up. Speak life. Be present. And trust God to do what only He can — transform hearts through your obedience.

You were made to make a difference. So lead intentionally. Love boldly. Influence with purpose. Because you’re not just impacting lives today — you’re shaping legacies for tomorrow.
