We Have Bees!

2012-03-28T12:05:00.000-05:00

Before I went to Williamsburg with the boys, The King and I had been watching Youtube videos on beekeeping. We discovered what is called Top Bar Hives. These hives are easier on the beekeeper's back and are most economical-something we look for. By the time I got back, The King had a box ready for us. Then about one month later, I got a call from a close friend that she

Williamsburg Part 3

2012-02-25T09:17:00.000-05:00

This trip included Jamestown and Yorktown. I actually liked these places better because they were more physical: you can touch and run through history as opposed to just listening and looking. Powhatan Village Ships at Jamestown. The people that work here are VERY friendly to kids and are willing to answer all kinds of questions. Something I can't say

Williamsburg Trip Part 1

2012-02-23T10:54:00.000-05:00

In February, Williamsburg was having a special discounted price for homeschoolers. We headed up that way for about 5 days. The first day we got our bearings as best we could on the area and decided to head to the beach (about an hour and a half away) just to see and smell the ocean. It's been a while since I've been to the ocean. That is one thing I miss about Florida. &

Seed Organizing

2012-02-22T13:54:00.000-05:00

I finally did it. I finally organized my seeds. This has taken me years. I did some googling to see what methods were out there and I liked this one the best. I made a few personal adjustments but for the most part, this is what some others have done. My labels on the front of the bins are just index cards set inside the front area. That way they can be changed

Our Only Snow

2012-02-20T13:44:00.000-05:00

Pooh loves being outside with the dogs. Our littlest rascal. She's my escape artist. Adorable little pain in the butt-that's what I should have named her. Here's Chicken Little. I call him that because he's afraid of brooms, cameras, etc. Here he's afraid of the camera so he's hiding out in the doghouse. Stupid dog. Who is that cool dude?

Family Worship Night-Bible Legos

2012-02-13T13:27:00.000-05:00

Everyone made their own Lego version of Solomon's Temple. The Latin King Pooh Tigger MasterpieceMom (I am soooo not a Lego artist.) Gotta keep it interesting, right? This was a hit for most. Pooh is at the age where everything is 'lame' so I don't know if I should count his opinion.

Character Day

2012-02-10T10:52:00.000-05:00

Our homeschool group did a character day for the kids this year. They dressed up as anyone really, there was even a Disney character. The reports were no more than 5 minutes. They had fun! Can you guess who Pooh chose to be? No, it isn't a bible character. LOL Tigger chose to be a modern character. The guy is still alive. Meet Martin Kratt from the famous Kratt

Time Flies!

2012-01-23T12:00:00.001-05:00

I spent the whole first part of January sick. Bleh. I'm finally feeling like a normal human being (even considering the fact that Tigger is sobbing due to having to do his morning routine-how that's different from any other day I don't know but there you have it). This was the month that we started our drama class again. We are doing a much shorter drama this year (thank

A Catch-Up To-Do List

2011-12-27T17:52:00.000-05:00

I wish I had taken before and after pictures because it's amazing what we've done. Just saying it doesn't compare. Hub and I organized a bunch of stuff in the basement. It isn't done but it's soooo much better. Since we will be remodeling down there and had to rip out the carpet over a year ago, it has become a catch all/disaster area. Our garbage bin is full and we

Done 12/21/11

2011-12-21T23:54:00.001-05:00

I'm just going to jump back in by posting what I've done today. No explanations of why I haven't been around in a while. I've discovered that I'm here when I'm here and I'm not when I'm not. LOL Hoping that this daily checklist will help keep me inspired to get things done. It's rainy, cloudy and dark today. Not a good day for people like me who only do well

A Real Conversation

2011-07-15T07:34:00.000-05:00

My autistic son, Pooh, talks a lot. He talks a lot about movies and history. So it was a momentous occasion recently when he initiated a Real Conversation. (said with fanfare--flag waving and jesters jesting) This month I started working an evening job cleaning an office. So about a week after I started, he and I are entering Harris Teeter when I hear, "So, how's work

Math On the Sidewalk

2011-06-29T13:25:00.000-05:00

I'm saying sidewalk but technically it's the driveway. Whatever. You get the point. LOL Just for a nice change of pace, we headed outside with our chalk. I wanted to do a bit of review of addition and subtraction as far as each one knew. Pooh is more advanced than Tigger in this area (which he should be) so he got the more complex problems to do. I used

Math in the Kitchen

2011-06-28T07:56:00.000-05:00

Yesterday I brought us to the kitchen table for math. I've done this several times before but I made it a bit different this time. I took out 3 sets of items. First Set: Four different containers were brought to the table. My big Costco bottle of balsamic vinegar, a can of mushrooms, my demarara sugar and sea salt. We worked on reading the label to know what it is
