Snake Plissken Supplemental: The Video Game and Anime

In our Escape from LA and The Adventures and Chronicles of Snake Plissken episodes, we mentioned the failed attempts to spread the franchise across multiple mediums. I haven't been able to find any more info on the video games and anime than what I mention in those episodes, but I wanted to put together a post pulling together what media is available for the two. All of these images came from a couple of posts on Ain't It Cool News by merrick, and give them a look for access to higher quality image files if you'd like.

The video game was being produced by Namco Hometek, in association with Cosmic Entertainment, a joint production company formed by Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Again, we don't have a date for when this demo appeared, but it was likely some time in 2004 given when development was first announced.

For a sense of what the game might have been like, some other Namco games from around this time which look to use a similar game engine are Breakdown, Ghosthunter, and Death by Degrees.

The anime series was being developed by Production IG, and the dates on these model sheets are right when they were in the middle of the first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Masters of Carpentry, Skipping Episode 25

A quick reminder that there's going to be a jump in the numbering with our next episode. Despite constant and continuing searches, Noel has still been unable to track down a copy of Blood River, a 1991 tv movie based on a script Carpenter wrote in the mid 70s. Well, he has found ONE copy, but it's entirely dubbed in Russian, so it would be tricky to review. Nearly all the tv movies Carpenter wrote have been officially released these days (hell, if Zuma Beach can get a dvd) so here's hoping we'll eventually see the same for Blood River. Until then, the search continues.

UPDATE: Wow, even the trailer disappeared just a couple months after it was posted. Whoever has those Blood River rights is really damned protective of it.

As a fun tie-in, over at The Super Saturday Short-Lived Showcase, Noel and his co-writer Tony are taking a look at this single season spinoff of Carpenter's classic film, where the role made famous by Jeff Bridges is now being filled by Robert Hays of the Airplane movies. As things get rolling, Starman reunites with his son, encounters woods filled with hunters, helps a catatonic Kenneth Tobey fix an airplane, fakes a UFO for Cletus Hogg, and runs into his dead body's best friend. All while being pursued by the most ineffectual government agent imaginable.
