I,am sorry to say, but i must close this Blog for a while, as i cannot afford to go fishing for a while.
Being unemployed in this country, when social won't help you is a nightmare.
The little bit of money my wife earns, just covers the morgage, and pole tax each month.
Half our bills cannot be paid, so i have had to come up with heartbreak, and stop fishing until we our
back on our feet.
Got to sell the van this month, as the mot, and tax is due the end of this month.
So hopefully in the future when we are okay again.,i will be able to take up the sport i still love.
Thank you all for reading my Blog, i have really enjoyed it. In the future i will start it up again,
and i will let you all know. So for now, once again thanks for everything.

WATERSMEET THIRD AGGREGATE MATCH.

PRE-DRAW.

I Know through previous experience that this place is a struggle when its match fished.
One peg stood out from the rest, and we all wanted it. Peg 9 was on its own right on the point,
so you could reach the Island easy with long pole. It was a lovely peg, and i wanted it so badly.
Whoever drew this peg was on to a winner here, fish it right, and you will win off it.
Actually fish it wrong, and you would still probably win?. Peg 9 is not a permenant peg number,
it was the last peg, pegged out on our match.

DRAW.

The draw took place on time, with someone drawing the first peg out for Dickie. Dickie had to
settle for peg 5. Muggings here drew about fourth down the line, C'MON PEG 9. In went my mitt,
and out came peg 3. ERM! never mind. Did'nt really expect to draw the flier anyway.
One day it will happen. My luck it will happen on day of armegeddon, know what i mean? he he.
Anyway the title of jammy sod went to John Barnard, which was okay as John's a nice bloke,
so if i could'nt have it, then i was glad he had it. So John was fishing one match, and the rest
of us were fishing for second. All the pegs were put back in the bag, and shaken about a bit.
Then it was ready for the Golden Peg to be drawn. You ain't never going to believe what popped out,
NO! it was'nt my bloody peg, but the bloody flier peg 9. Going to have a good day then John aye!.

PRE-MATCH.

Drove to my peg, which was a good start, he he. Unloaded my kit, and started to set up.I could get
my box right on the edge of the pallet, so i was going to use my one, and only short arm for my
keepnet. Well that went out of the bleeding window when i dropped it, and it went straight through
the gap of the pallet?. Jezus! here i go again!. Anyway i decided to use my long arm for my
keepnet, he he. So now my keepnet was a little bit further out than it needed to be. Oh! well the
joys of fishing aye, he he. I started to set up the pole, i put a 0.5 gram float rig on, plumbed
up, and it totally disappeared, well at seven metres its definitely deeper than 5 foot, he he.
Fair play the match has'nt even started yet, and everything is going tits up!. So i wound this rig
back onto its winder, and got another one out of the box. (professional or what, he he). This rig
was a 1 grammer so i had at least ten foot to play with. Out it went with my plummet on the end.
I found about eight foot at seven metres, so i thought okay that will do. Set another rig up at
about two metres to my right for the paste line just in case a Carp put in an appearance. This was
about 4 feet deep. Set a cage feeder rod up, also a rod, for the method. Before hand i knocked my
groundbait up, soaked my pellets, and pumped my expanders. So with ten minutes to spare i was ready.

At this point i must point out that i was lucky to be fishing at all this weekend, being out of work,
and totally skint i had to borrow £20 for my fishing. I had £22 in my pocket, so i had to put a fiver
in my diesel tank for the van, and £16 for the match. I did'nt even have enough for half a pint of
maggots, so i had to rely on the pellets, and corn. This country is great is'nt it, it wants to help
the imigrants with everything, and its own people with nothing. I got bills coming out of my arse,
but the council won't help with the pole tax, and social won't give me anything. So me thinks its
going to get a lot worse for me, and my family, great ain't it. Anyway your not here to read about
my problems, so lets crack on.

THE MATCH.

The whistle went at 9.00am. I fed the 7 metre line by cupping kit. I fed two balls of groundbait,
and half a cupful of 2mm, with a couple of 4mm pellets, and a few pieces of corn. Fed the inside
line by hand, just a few pieces of paste now, and then. Started on the method with corn on the
hook. With 5 minutes gone John on peg 9 had his first skimmer, here we go, bye, bye golden peg
money. (boo hoo, he he). Any way after about half an hour John was bagging up on small skimmers,
while myself was on his fifth cast. While my brain was thinking shitty thoughts my rod shot
round, and i was into something big. Well the fun lasted about 2 seconds when myself, and the
fish parted company. 6LB hook length smashed, great start me thinks, not, he he. Tied a new hook
length to my method feeder, and made sure it was a tadge bit stronger, 8LB hook length this time.
Why the hell i did'nt start on a heavier hook length beggers belief, but to late to cry now aye!.
Halfway through the match John is still catching steady, Graham to my right, and Trevor to my left,
plus myself were all blanking still. There were a odd couple of fish being caught elsewhere, but
nothing to shout about. I was having indications on the float, but nothing positive. With half
hour to go i went up to Barry, and asked him if i could have a few maggots, he obliged with a good
handful. (Cheers Barry). I put double red maggot on the hook, and waited for about 5 minutes, when
my float went under, and 30 seconds later i was staring at a 2 ounce roach staring at me from the
abyss of my landing net. Oh! well at least i did'nt blank, he he. Another small roach came in quick
succession. Two small fish in as many minutes. With 10 minutes to go my float slid under, and i
lifted into a solidish thump. A minute later i was staring at a bream of about 3Lb. Three fish on
the maggot, what would have happened if i had had a pint of maggots?. Well thats life i suppose.
The whistle for the end of the match came at 2.00pm.

POST MATCH.

Well done John for blitzing the match off peg 9. Golden peg too, he he. For myself there was 3Lb
odd between me, and second, that lost Carp cost me second place, tut, tut. There were three
blanks out of nine, one either side of me, so at least i beat both sides of me, he he.

All in all, a good day for John, and crap for the rest of us. John picked up £35 for the match,

PRE-DRAW.

A good start to the day, as everyone turned up on time.(Well done lads). By the side of the
lake, a few of us were throwing floaters in just to see what would happen. Well the Carp in here
did'nt disappoint, and put on a show. The floaters were not thrown in further than about 5 foot,
and yet they were happily taking them in confidence. We just stood there, and watched them for
a bit, and our presence did not bother them at all. I have always said the fish in here are nuts.

Weather wise it was a nice pleasant day, hot with very little breeze. Another suntan day, yippee!.
To be honest with this field i was up against today, i would have had more chance shaking the pope's
hand, than winning the match. All class Anglers thats for sure. But i don't mind wasting twenty
quid to be in this company, as they say experience is everything. Problem is the only experience i
have been having lately is how to get stuffed, he he. Jeez! there was even an ex Van Den Eynde essex
star fishing today, see what i mean about a good field. There were Team Mossella Anglers, Daiwa
Gordon League Anglers just to name a few. OH! the embarrassment of being stuffed, he he.

THE DRAW.

There were no photos of the draw today, because i did'nt want to be at the back of the queue, again!.
So i sneaked in the middle of the queue, and waited my turn. When it was my turn i pulled out an
envelope, opened it, and out popped peg 19. One away from the end peg. But i did'nt mind as i have
had a second off this peg with 140lb, so i was quite happy, even though there was no wind blowing
towards this end of the lake, like the last open we had on here. But that was obvious because i
drew this end, he he. But to be honest the wind did'nt favour anyone, as there was'nt much around.
Everyone finally drew there pegs, and sauntered off to there chosen spots.

PRE-MATCH.

Arrived at my peg, and unloaded my kit. Set my box up near the waters edge. Then i placed my three
keepnets out, which is mandatory on here. Then did the usual boring things, like pump my expanders,
soak my 4mm pellets to soften them up. Today i was just going to fish two long tops, about 2 metres
out. One straight out in front of me, and the other for the margin to my left. My keepnets taking up
the rest of the space i had. (suprising how much room three keepnets take up?). Everything was set up
with about 15 minutes to spare before the whistle. Steve Chester on peg 20 to my left forgot his
bait, leaving it at home. (teach you for drinking the night before, he he). He had his feed pellets
with him, so i said to him i had plenty of expanders with me. So i gave him a good handful, and said
if he needed anymore i have plenty. Which was a good thing i said, as half way through the match he
ran out. So he needed a second batch to carry on. Which i happily obliged.

THE MATCH.

The all in was shouted at 10am. So out went a small handful of 4mm pellets fed by hand on both lines.
6mm expander on the hook, shipped out, and had my first fish in about a minute, only a small carp, but
a start non the less. In the first 10 minutes, i had 5 smallish carp in the net. Myself, and Steve on
the next peg (20) were going fish for fish for about twenty minutes, then my swim started to slow down.
Steve carried on catching at the same rate as before. Oh! well at least i stayed with a top notch Angler
for twenty minutes, he he. To my left in the corner of the lake, you could hear the big Carp splashing
around all day, where they were still spawning (randy little sods). My match was quite weird were i
would have a qiuck two or three fish, then it would go quite for a while. I was alternating between both
swims throughout, the match. I ended up with 33 Carp, all relatively small, with the odd decent one, or
two. I also lost about 15 carp throughout the match, which was a pain in the butt. But as they say, thats
fishing for you. Talking to Steve Ford after the match, and he told me he lost about twenty fish. Well
glad i ain't the only one then, he he. Problem with Steve's lost fish, they cost him some coin.
He finished 6th overall, those lost fish would have probably put him about second overall. My lost fish
might of put me up a couple of places, but still not good enough for the coin. All in all it was a good
day out, got beat both sides of me (again). Would you believe i got stuffed by my own pellets off peg 20.
Charming ain't it. Maybe the next time an Angler forgets his bait, and he's pegged next to me, i might
all of a sudden go deaf, when he's telling everybody, he he. Fair play my pellets are that good they
caught Steve Chester over a ton of fish. Nothing to do with his skills then, he he. The last open here,
i drew peg 10, and did not weigh. The Angler who drew it this time also did'nt weigh, but i hope he had
better luck getting his keepnets out of the water than i did from that peg, because when i was retrieving
the last one, it caught on a rock under water, and tore a big hole in it. But thankfully this week, no
mishaps. Still can't find my number 8 section to my tourney pro pole though. Strange that!. So if there
are any charitable people out there, who has a number 8 doing nothing, any chance of a bit of charity, he he.

Sorry about this , but i forgot to upload Dave's results from last week. So i have uploaded

RODS AND REELS.

This weeks match was the first in the Summer League Series. This series is 6 matches with the best 5
results to count. This is being run alongside the Summer Championship, and the knockout competition
starting 31/5/2010. So for the club it is all go. Anyway the match was held on the Embalse de Argos,
and paste seems to be the bait to use. John Marsh started the match off with a fish a go using paste,
however after several hours he needed to go to his car and back, one of the local wild but friendly
Dogs reached up, and took his container of paste. This ended his match!!!!. "John shouted out, who
let the Dogs out". Moral of the day, keep yours hands on your paste.

MAGGOTS END.

RODS AND REELS.

This is now a very busy time for the Anglers in the club, as we currently have 3 competitions going on
at the same time. This week started the Knockout Championship, which is 4 rounds of 6 Anglers per round.
The best 3 of each round go through to the final at the end of the month. Also there is the Summer
Championship, and the Summer League.

Firstly, the knockout. This was held on the Rio Segura at the Eden Canal Stretch. The first set of
qualifiers for the final are as follows.

2ND.MALCOLM(Scottie)SCOTT. SAME METHOD WITH 5.400 KILO'S.

The other match this week was the 2nd in the Summer League Series, and was held on the Rio Segura at
Murcia. We were a bit fortunate during the day as there was some cloud cover thus keeping the temperature
down slightly. The fishing was good throughtout, although the river is running slightly lower than normal.
There is also the standard amount of debris still rising up off the bottom of the river. This did cause
some problems later in the day, as the wind blew upstream keeping the debris in a lot of swims.

While fishing this match it had been noticed that a lot of Carp appear to be blind, ie, the eyes are
covered like a cataract. We don't know whether this is a disease or not. As a suggestion any nets used
at the river should be dried thoroughly in the sun, so if it is a disease it will not be transferred
to other venue's.

For those of you that reside on urbanization with Mick Hill, please note that Mick is alive, and well,
as he decided not to venture into the murky depths of the Rio Segura, to retrieve the top section of his
pole.

PLEASE NOTE.

Several Anglers were asked by the Soprona (Enviromental police of the Guarda Civil) for not only there
licences, but also their insurance. They did not have the insurance, and were given 7 days to acquire it,
and show it to the police. So be careful out there.

Okay back to my disasterous weekend. Saturday saw me at tirley, fishing against top notch Anglers,
you can guess the outcome of this one then, can't you. Well i will upload this one tomorrow. As for
sundays match, ERR! what Sunday match. Let me explain.

Saturday was my wifes 45th Birthday, so she was'nt over the moon about me fishing Saturdays match.
But God bless her, she was okay about it in the end. Sorry this is a family blog, so i can't explain how i
changed her mind, he he. Anyway after the match at Tirley, i had to get home, and start the Barbeque.
It was party time. My wifes work mates came round for the barby, along with my stepson, and his bit
of skirt, (Jade). So we had about 9 or 10 around for a eating, and drinking binge. Now as a rule i don't
drink, well today was an exception. We all started drinking about 7pm, and i kicked the last persons
out, about 4am Sunday morning, So you could say there was'nt a sober person by the end of it all.
Can't complain, it turned out to be a great night, missus loved it, which was what it was all about. I went
to bed about 4.30am, you know the crack, you need a couple of hours to sleep it off before fishing.
Well i never woke up until my two bloody Dogs started barking the house down, which was at 11am.
1 hour into the match, alas i did'nt make it. So i apologise to Dickie, and the lads of Permali. Who no
doubt missed my fishing talents, he he. I had one hell of an hangover, (now i remeber one of the reasons
for packing up the drink) So i would have been more useless at fishing than normal. (if thats possible, he he).
I will find out the results off Dickie, and let you know what happened. So for now Ladies, and Gentlemen,

PRE-DRAW.

I arrived at the fishery about 12.20 pm, 40 minutes before the draw. I thought i
was keen, but there was about 12 anglers already there. The rest arriving up to
the 1.00pm draw. 18 of the twenty anglers who said they were coming turned up. So
two let everybody down. I suppose if you did'nt have these kind of anglers, we
would'nt have much to moan at would we!. Surely if they can say they want to fish,
then they can also say they can't make it. But no, they just did'nt bother turning
up, without saying anything. Anyway 18 of us turned up, so we were still going to
enjoy it. The problem now being, you have got 2 sections of 5, and 2 sections
of 4, and considering Steve was paying out 1st, and 2nd in section, you can guess
which sections i want to draw in, he he.

THE DRAW.

Andy Salcombe drew first has his name was first on the list. He drew peg 1, the area
where everybody wanted to be. Steve Evans was writing down the draw, so Andy drew
again for Steve. His hand pulled out peg 3. The bloody flier, which Steve Bee broke
the match record off last week. Now let me think! the organiser having the flier
drawn for him, and Andy drawing peg 1, these two always share their winnings, and
travel together for there matches. Me thinks a stewards enquiry is needed, don't you,
he he. Steve said after they drew that no one will believe them, ERM! let me think.
To be honest there two nice blokes so a bit of ribbing about it is all in fun. (plus
they might beat me up as well he he). Anyway my turn came along, and i drew peg 10.
Dead opposite Steve, and Andy with an Island between us. So at least i can watch em
bag up all evening, how nice (not). Well the thought of me drawing in a section with
just four went out of the window. Gawd i can't even get that right. The rest of
the draw went smoothly, with a few moans, and groans, (i ain't the only bugger then,
he he).

PRE-MATCH.

Another good thing about this place is in the summer when the ground is hard, you
can drive all around the lake to your pegs, which is good otherwise there is a bit
of an hike. Which certainly ain't no good for fatties like me. Well if us fatties
liked walking then we would'nt be fat would we he he. Anyway if God wanted us to
walk he would'nt have given us cars would he.

Got to my peg, and on my left on peg 9 was Paul Jackson (no relation to Michael honest).
On my right, peg 11 was vacant, then there were a couple of pleasure Anglers, and then
Roy Davis on the other side of these two on peg 12.I decided to set up the rod for the
method, to fish against the Island. I also set up a couple of tops for the margins, and
one to fish in front of me at 3 metres. I got my groundbait ready for the method, pumped
my expanders, and wetted my micro pellets. Basically i was set up, and ready to go with
about half an hour to spare. So i decided to take some pics of the lake, and have a wander
around. I went up to Roy Davis, and annoyed him for about 10 minutes. Then went back to
my peg, and waited for the all in. Up until this point there was no major drama's to
speak about. (shame he he).

THE MATCH.

The all in went at 2.30pm. I fed a few micro, and 4mm pellets on the 3 metre line.
Fed my two margin swims by hand, the left hand margin with pellets, and my right
hand margin with sweetcorn. The idea was to fish the margins later on in the match.
Then i started fishing on the method to the island. Hook bait was 3 dead red maggots.
Had my first bite on the second chuck, a drop back bite. All i can say is, i lifted the
rod into a bloody animal, that shot off up the lake like a rocket. After about 30
seconds it was bye bye fish, and my 8lb hook length. Well thats a good start is'nt it.
Tied another hook length on, this time i went up to 10lb line, and a 14's hook. Hopefully
this will stop the buggers. Re-cast to the clip, and waited again. Waited ten minutes,
and re-cast again. This time i only waited about 2 minutes , and again a drop back bite
happened. Lifted into a nice bend in the rod, after about 5 minutes of scrapping a nice
plump Carp of about 6 pound graced my landing net. Phew! always handy to get the first
one netted, well second one, but you know what i mean?. I had to cast out a couple of
more times before i latched into my next Carp. Landed this one too. Getting good at this
ain't I, he he. The first hour mark came up, with no further bites forthcoming on the
method, so i decided to try my luck on the 3 metre line. Popped a 6mm expander on the
hook, and shipped it out, when my float settled i emptied the toss pot over the top.
Within about 30 seconds my float shot under, (don't worry i was amazed too, he he)
and i lifted into a fish. My elastic decided to do the impression of a bunjee rope,
and shot out at an alarming rate. I stuck my pole under the water, and hung on for
dear life. Luckily the fish turned, and i had it under control, landing it after a
couple of minutes. This baby went about 8lbs. The first hour i caught two Carp.
The second hour i caught six Carp, things were looking up. Believe it or not but
after this point the fishing went down hill rapidly, not just for me, but for nearly
everyone else. This was an evening match, the Carp should be going loopy. OH! no, not
on this lake, it was quite the opposite. I tried the margin swims. nothing. I tried the
method again nothing, i went back out on the 3 metre line, and again nothing. So for the
next few hours i sat, and watched Steve Evans on the flier bagging up. I would cry if
i had any tears left, he he. Anyway back to my fishing, with an hour to go i concentrated
on my left hand margin swim. Fed some pellets, and just sat there like a gnome waiting.
After about 20 minutes my float dissapeared, and i had a short scrap with a two pounder.
He went into the net with the other eight. I fed the margin again, and decided to have
a look on the method. Again after about 10 minutes my rod dropped back, and i was into
Carp number ten. A minor fight occured, but this four pounder landed up with his mates
in the net. Went back down the margins, and after a little while my float went under,
and i lifted into a maniac of a fish. When i hooked him he shot out of the water by
about a foot, and went that a way. You no what i mean, a different direction to me.
MY problem was this bugger decided to keep going, and he was'nt going to stop for no
one. Hence bye, bye rig. Yep! the lot. Well that was that, so back out on the method
until the end of the match, which was only about ten minutes to go. The only time my
rod moved was when the whistle went, and that was because i had to reel it in.
What an up, and down match this was. Lost my first, and last Carp of the day, great
or what.

POST MATCH.

All in all it was a good day, even though the fish did'nt want to play ball for myself,
and a lot of other anglers. Of course you get your exceptions, in the form of fliers,
but i wouldnt really know about that would I, he he. At the weigh in there were three
no weigher's, (bet you think i was one of them don't you, well i was'nt so there).
Actually the weights were quite tight throughout, with the exception of the top two
weights. We all new who the winner was, so the rest of us were fighting for top two in
section, and on some sections it was going to be a close run thing.

RESULTS.

The flier came good for Steve Evans who won the match quite comfortably with 90 pound odd.
Steve Evans, and Steve Bee work together in a factory, and a couple of there mates at work
decided to side with Steve Bee, and put a fiver bet on Steve Bee beating Steve Evans, well
lads if your reading this, i think you ought to cough up the money to Steve Evans. Can't
blame you if you don't speak to Steve Bee for a while as he got battered by the other Steve,
he he. So if Darren Nichols, and John Smith are reading this, come on pay up, or i will put
your names on the shame list on the Internet. Jason Wellington had a good last hour to come
second overall with 70 pound odd, but unfortunatley that was only good enough for a section
win. In Steve Evans's section, second and third in section moved up a place by default,
(jammy sods) he he.

Well it was a good day out, most enjoyed it. So if there is another open on here in the future,

then i will fish it for sure. Hope you enjoyed the write up, as much has i enjoy writing it.
For me a section 2nd, £20 in the sky rocket, can things start to look up, or will i come back
down to earth with a bump? ERM! which one will it be, he he.
Next weekend i have two matches, an open on Saturday at Tirley, another open run by Steve Ford.
On Sunday its another aggregate match for Permali, at Drummonds Dudd, how nice, ain't been there
for awhile, he he. Dave's results will be uploaded tomorrow, or friday. So for now have a good week,

PRE-DRAW.

Everyone that was fishing arrived on time. 5 anglers were not fishing this week,
so that cut the field down to 9. Drummonds as been having problems just recently,
with an outbreak of thick weed. All the years we've been fishing this place, we
have never seen, or heard of weed growing in this lake. So where's it come from.
Gawd knows, but what it has done, its knackered loads of pegs up. All that digging,
and building of new pegs, gone out of the window. Dick as a arranged for 5 opens
on here, 22 peggers, well thats been scuppered now. might get 16 on here if your
lucky, and thats if the weed does'nt spread. Graham decided to peg out only the
road side, and totally ignored the far bank. Can't work that one out, so peg 1
had only a small gap to fish through. 7 perfectley good pegs on the far bank gone
to waste. Might make sense to some people, but not me. Maybe the long walk had
something to do with it. Who knows. Weather wise it was'nt the ideal conditions
for skimmer bashing. The high pegs what i was on, had hardly any ripples on
the water. Mix that with sunshine, not the best. But being the brave warrior i'am,
i soldiered on, he he.

THE DRAW.

Last week a match on here was won with 28lb, from the shallow pegs, second came from
this area as well. So you can guess were i wan't to draw can't you, he he.
ANYWAY! i put my hand in the draw peg, and out popped peg 9. Farthest peg away
from last weeks winner. ERM! not a lot has changed there then, he he. So here
i'am in the deeps, which i could'nt draw for love nor money in the winter series.
I think i will cut off my draw bag hand, and replace it for a new one?.

THE MATCH.

I parked right next to my peg (suppose that was the good part), and unloaded my kit.
In fairness i still fancied my peg, has i have won a couple of matches off this one
last year. With weights of 24lb, and 28lb. So the fish do show this end in the summer.
Lets hope todays one of those days, because if not its going to be a not very
interesting day for me. Considering it has been a crap 2010 so far this season, i will
go with the no fish in peg syndrome, he he.

I set up the feeder, and clipped up for about a 25 metre chuck. Set up two top kits
for the pole, one at 7 metres in front of me, and one for the reeds to my left.
Won one of my matches fishing tight to the reeds. Fished this swim all day for the
24lb winning weight, on the pellet. So can't see why i should'nt try it again.

The whistle went at 9.00am for the all in. Fed four balls of groundbait on my 7 metre
line, laced with pellet, with a sprinkling of red maggots. My reed line was fed with
2 balls of groundbait, with a potful of micro, and 4mm pellets. Started on the feeder
line with groundbait, and pellet, with single red maggot on the hook.
The norm is to use chopped worm, but i could'nt afford to buy them, so had to go down
a different route. It took half an hour to get my first bite, which ended in a small
skimmer. After the hour mark, the skimmer was the only fish i had. Dickie on the next
peg, and Pughy on the peg next to him were in the same boat. Not a very good sign for
this place. So i thought plan B. The reeds. Placed my float by the reeds, and tipped out
my toss pot half full of micro,s, and waited. I had been flicking out about 20 maggots
on the 7 metre line about every 5 minutes or so. This would be my plan z line. (the
time to panic line, he he). Half hour on the reeds line resulted in zilch, nowt. So
i went back out on the feeder line just to see.(as i did'nt want to panic just yet, he he).
Nowt came on the feeder either, so with half the match gone, i pressed the panic button.
On went a single red maggot, and out went the pole on the 7 metre line. Now i know we
all make silly mistakes from time to time, but how silly is this?. For over an hour i
was fishing the 7 metre line, and had two small roach, and a small rudd. It took me all
that time to realise i was fishing with my reeds set up. So there i was fishing away,
two foot off bottom, instead of on the bottom (what a knob, he he). So after a little
in my head tongue bashing, i threw this rig up the bank, and put my plumbed up bottom
depth rig on, which is what i should have done an hour ago. (the pressure's of crap
anglers, sigh). For the next half hour or so, i started catching small skimmer, and
roach, which was shooting my weight up from what i had. This was good, i had an hour
to go, and maybe i might start clawing back the field. NOT SO!. There i was starting
to think good things, and then the swim died a death. Tried the reeds line again,
nothing. So finished the match on the feeder, which insidently i never caught nowt
on either. So there you go in a 5 hour match i had a mad half hour catching one after
the other.I had one hour of being a complete numpty fishing the wrong rig, and three and
a half hours just twiddling my thumbs. All in all a complete W----R!!!!!!.he he.

Fair play to Dickie on the next peg, he started to catch well on the feeder with a
couple of hours to go, and won the match. (stuffed from the next peg again, he he).
The middle pegs coming good with second, and third.

Well there you go another perfectly fished match, he he. Can't complain there's

always tomorrow. Maybe i could do okay in this one (yeah okay!) Tomorrows match,
bank holiday monday is being held at Elton Corner which is a twenty pegger. Steve
Evans has arranged this one, so its an open. Draw is at 1.00pm. Fishing from
2.30pm to 8.30pm. 6 hour evening match, so will the new match record of 157lb by
Steve Bee be broken. Steve Evans thinks so, he he. I will let you know how this

ROD AND REEL.

The match this week was the 6th in the summer championship series.(series of 9 matches best 6 count).
The match was fished on the Rio Segura at the Eden Canal Stretch. After a grim days practicing on Monday,
it was expected to be a hard days fishing on the Wednesday. Well how fortunes change, the venue fished
probably the best it as ever done, with 4 anglers breaking the 10 kilo's barrier. This was not without
its price, i broke a top section on a big fish (another lost big fish). Mick Hill lost his top section,
and was going to return the next day to go in, and retrieve it (maybe). Best of luck Mick as most anglers
had commented there are more Snakes showing there now than there are at London Zoo!!!!. If Mick's not
at the match this week it could be an epitaph in the column ???.

I have two matches this weekend, tomorrow at Drummonds Dubb for Watersmeet, and an evening
match on Bank Holiday Monday at Elton Farm. This one is to be fished from 2.30pm to 8.30pm.
Basically its an open arranged by Permali / Babcocks. Evening match, even i should catch well,
because if i don't, i'am running out of excuses, then you lot would start to think i'm really crap. YES!
you would probably be right. So PLEEEEEEEEEASE GOD let me prove everyone wrong, he he.
Will upload these disasters, i mean matches through the week, so for now you lot try not to catch

PRE-MATCH.

2 Guests fished with us today, to make up the field. Charlie Chang could'nt make
this match, as he had a baby head wetting day to go to. (can't have many excuses
left aye charlie). So we had 14 anglers to choose between 15 pegs, and they were
fairly spread out, as we booked the whole lake for the day. The weather was a
egg boiling day again, very hot with a mild breeze. The lake was like a mill pond
flat calm. The Carp had just got over their spawning activities. ERM! sounds good
don't it. he he. The best pegs are on the far bank to the car park, and up the
left hand side of the lake. The lake is shaped like the letter L, with an island
running through the whole length. Some pegs you could reach with long pole, and some
you could'nt. So its all down to the luck of the draw. Jason must be a good artist,
because he draws well. The lake match record stands at 130lb. The holder of this
record is Steve Evans. Well only until the weigh in of this match anyway?.

Just a little note to say Jason, Andy, and Steve Evans fished the whiteacres festival
last week, and Jason finished fifth overall to pick up £300. Well done Jason. Steve
Evans finished 12th overall, and Andy does'nt want to say where he finished he he.
They said they had a great time down there, and are going back next year. I have
asked to go with them next year, so Steve is going to see if there are any spare
places. It would be to there advantage, as i would be putting extra money in the pot.
I don't know why i don't just give the money to Jason, it would save me the trip he he.

Meanwhile Dickie who broke his number 6 section last week, decided to break one of his
tops today. Dickie, any more of that, and you will be catching me up as the clumsiest
bloody angler the world of angling as ever known. I did'nt break anything today myself,
but for some unknown reason i cannot find my number 8 section to my tourney pole. How
the hell can anyone misplace a one, and a half metre piece of carbon. If anyone knows
the answer could you please let this dim wit know, thanks in advance. Anyway thats
enough of praising myself for one day, so lets get on with the draw.

THE DRAW.

Jason drew guess where, YEP! on the far bank, where the decent pegs are. Muggings here
drew the car park side, i ain't going to say anything. Steve Evans drew what seemed to
be in the wilderness?. You know what i mean billy no mates, all on his todd at the furthest
end of the lake. Roy drew right where the cars were parked before the draw, where everybody
congregated, not a happy chappy. I had Dickie to my left, and John just round the bend to
my right.

THE MATCH.

With this weather i know how a micro waved dinner feels like. Talk about melting. But must
not complain, otherwise i will sound like a typical Englishman he he. Well got to my peg,
and unloaded the van with my kit. I had a nice chuck to the Island of about twenty metre's.
Nice margins either side of me. So i set up the pellet feeder for the Island swim. Set up
two tops for the margins, and one top to fish in front of me at 3 metre's. The ploy was to
fish banded pellet to the Island, pellet on the 3 metre line, and pellet in one margin,and
meat in the other. The whistle went at 10.00am for the all in. Fed a small potful of 4mm,
and micro pellet on the 3 metre line. Fed both margins by hand. Started on the feeder on
the Island, and settled down for the match. No bite came in 5 minutes, so i refilled the
feeder, and cast back out. The only angler i could see was Dickie to my left, i could'nt
see anyone else, unless i stood up, which was'nt likely. After another 10 minutes i decided
to fill the feeder, and recast again. On doing so when the feeder it the clip i sunk the
line by flicking the rod, then tightened up with the reel handle. The rod just kept tightening
up, so i lifted into my first fish of the day. 5 minutes later a nice Carp of about 4 pound
graced my net.Some of the Carp in here are shaped like football's and this one was no exception.
Filled the feeder back up, and went through the same procedure, only this time i tightened up,
and it stayed there. I gave it another half an hour with no success. So decided to try my
3 metre line. Fed some micro pellet, and a couple of 4mm pellet through the toss pot attached
to my pole, then settled my rig down over the top. All the time just topping up my margin swims.
The rig was probably in the water for 10 minutes when the float dissapeared, and i lifted into
a fish. The Carp put up a good scrap before i netted for fish number two. The fishing on this
side of the lake was pretty slow, i had two in the net to Dickie's none.( got to gloat while
it lasts he he). In the next couple of hours i managed another 6 Carp on my 3 metre line.
I tried the margins now, and then throughout, but never had one bite down the sides at all.
Unfortunatly i never had another fish on the pole lines again. Here we go a(bloody)gain.
Went down, and scrounged a cup of tea off of Roy, and sat with him for a little while. He was
struggling big time. He told me Nick to his left was catching all his fish down the margins.
Strange or what, Roy never had a bite down the margins, neither did Andy next to Roy on his
right. Anyway went back to my peg, and as i passed Andy he was playing a big Carp on the
method. So i thought sod it go back to my peg, and take my pellet feeder off my rod, and
swap to a method feeder. I knocked a bit of Groundbait up, not a lot as their was only an
hour to go.Cast it out to the Island, and waited. I had 3 casts in half an hour hoping
a fish would come along, and aye presto one did. A Fish of about 5 pounds was now with his
buddy's in the keep net. Re-cast, and sat out the rest of the match. No more fish came at
the whistle so packed up, and waited for the weigh in. Bri had Dickie's van round by his peg,
and the scales, and weigh net was in the back. So me, and \Dickie walked round to the other
side, and decided to start their. I had the important job of writing down the weight's. So
i did'nt get my hands dirty he he. The weigh started on peg 11, John's peg. He fished the
method throughout the match, and weighed in 57lb. Thats one place down the leader board
for me then he he. When we got to Jason's peg, we weighed him in, and he weighed 119lb odd.
But fair play to him he said Steve Bee's caught a lot more. We got to Steve's peg, and he
broke the match record with a weight of 157lb. Well done steve top angling mate. Terry was
the only other angler to break the ton. Billy no mates finished with a cool 90lb less than
the new record holder, still hammered me though (sigh). I ended up with 9 Carp for 42lb odd.

Well at least i never came last, thank you God he he. All in all it was'nt to bad of a day.

Everybody caught, some a lot more than others, but thats fishing. Again well done Steve
for breaking the match record. Maybe you could give me some lessons he he. Next week i'am
fishing at Drummonds Dubb on Sunday for Watersmeet's second aggregate match. On Monday
we are having a Bank holiday knock up at Elton Farm, i think this one is being fished in
the afternoon. I think 2.00pm to 8.00pm, whatever it is i will let you know.

PRE-DRAW.

Everybody who put there names down to fish, all turned up. Well done on
that one lads. Anglers came from far, and wide to fish this one. Thats
dedication for you. The field was definately a strong one. So basically
i was kissing goodbye to my twenty quid before the start. But who cares,
it was nice just to be in this company. When we got there the fish were
showing well, near the stones. which is the side nearest the entrance.
This little area was left for the pleasure anglers. There was a couple
of young lads there already fishing, they were using floating bread tactics.
They were catching pretty well too. The Carp had been spawning prior to
today. Although there was still some fish splashing around. Normally on
this lake it does'nt really matter where you draw, as fish will be caught
from all areas. It still as its preferable pegs, but like i say, you can
still catch from anywhere.(NORMALLY). The wind was blowing from the far
end down to the entrance end, and this definately had an outcome on the
results.

THE DRAW.

Steve Ford had already pegged out before most had arrived. Adrian Davis had
a wander round before the draw, just to have a look. Good job he did aye!
Steve. Because somebody forgot to put in peg 15. So after a quick
re-arangement by Steve, everything was honky dorry. The pressure of organisation.
he he. I started to take pictures of the draw, realising i would be last in
the queue (again). So i made this known to everybody, and one guy let me in
front of him. (what a gent). So i was last but two to draw. Fordy was the last
(my hero) he he.
Well it came to my turn, and in went the mitt, and out came peg 10. A peg on the
far bank. No matter this is Tirley, the last time i fished this area i had
106lb for last in my section of 5. Still a good days fishing though. After
the draw everyone headed for there pegs. I was probably about five pegs up
from where i had the 106lb from, so i was'nt concerned. I set up to fish at
2 metres in front of me. Plus the margins either side of me.

THE MATCH.

The whistle went at 10.30 am. I fed the margins by hand, and the line in front of
me i fed by pot. As i was doing this Steve Ford was into his first Carp, i kid you
not, he had 4 Carp in as many minutes, not big, but a good start none the less.
My first fish was a foul hooked Gudgeon, yes you read it right, a bloody Gudgeon.
My next put in, i missed the bite, and my pellet was gone. After two more pellets
being knicked i foul hooked another Gudgeon. So i decided to feed the pellet, and
fish sweetcorn on the hook. After a couple of seconds i was into my first Carp.
He was about 5ozs. I had another three quick small ones, then i latched into a
more decent Carp.I landed it, and it went about 5lbs. Hooked another decent fish
after a couple of minutes, only for the hook to pull out at the net. This one was
about 6lbs. Then just like someone had thrown a switch, my peg along with half
the pegs on the lake just died. The wind was blowing in the opposite direction,
blowing down to the other end. The fish definately followed. So for the next
four, and a half hours we at this end just watched the other end bag up.
(i can't work my luck out, i won a tenner on the lottery, yet drew shite again).
Even Fordy was shedding a tear halfway through the match. Fair play to the lads
on the other side of the lake, they took full advantage of there pegs. At least
some had a good day. During the match a few cars drove past me with disgruntled
anglers in them. I had a couple more Gudgeon, and one more small Carp. But that
was that. I might of had about 10lb if i was lucky.The weather was boiling, at
least i topped up the tan. On the whistle i did not bother to weigh in, just
packed up, got in the van, and buggered off home. I was going to stay to take
a few pics of the winners, but considering i left my water at home in the fridge,
i really needed a drink, and there was no way i was going to hang around for an
hour with me gagging for a drink. But like i said there was a few happy guys,
but unfortunately there was a lot of disheartened lads as well. Oh! well
there's always the next one on the 5th of june.

This weeks match was held on the Embalse de Argos, the first time this year
that the club has fished this venue. The match was the 5th in the summer
Championship series. The day was warm (for some of us), and very windy. For
those that know the venue, fishing on the left hand side of the point (the
sunny side) were bathed in sunshine. For those on the over side, the wind
blew a hooley from around 1 o'clock on. In saying that, the best weights came
from this side. Paul Baxter fishing paste was into fish from the off, and if
the wind had not blown up would have doubled his weight.

As for myself , Tirley Court tomorrow. Looking forward to this one, as NORMALLY

this place is crammed from wall to wall with Carp. Probably the bloody things won't be in

my swim though, and you all know that will be down to bad luck, and not my fishing skills.

Okay now you have stopped laughing Sunday's match is at Elton Farm. There is a post on

here about this place when we fished it last time in the cold. Six of us fished. Two of us

weighed in ton plus bags, and two of us had no weigh's. ERM! i wonder which category

i fit into out of the ton plus, and the no weigher. I know you all think it was the ton plus

category,but i had bad luck (honest). he he. I will let you all know how i done after i

have fished both matches, so see you soon.

WATERSMEET 1ST AGGREGATE MATCH.

On the bottom of the last post, I said about 15lb would win this one.
I think i was being a bit optimistic on this one. As a club, we have fished
this place twice before, it was crap then, and it is crap now. Why the
organiser's pick this venue, is beyond me?. The problem with the place was
when they had the big floods in 2007, it took most of the fish with it. The
B.A.A. Who control the place won't re-stock it, just in case of future flooding.
Apparantly there is a big head of Bream in here, plus Carp, and tench. Well
a few odd fish have shown in our last couple of matches, but nothing to shout
about.

THE MATCH.

This is going to be the shortest post on here, because there's not a lot to
write about. So here goes.

Match started at 9-00am. Fed the pole line at 9 metres, and the margins either
side of me. Started on the feeder at about 40 yards. Tried everyline throughout
the match, did'nt have one single bite in 5 hours. The whistle went at 2-00pm
for the all out. YEP! Blankity blank time. (again). Told you it was going to be
short did'nt I. he he. About 11 fish caught throughout the match great innit.

Sorry there was not much to read in this post, but if i've got to suffer, and

so have you lot, he he. Well i can sum this match up in one word, but i won't
as its a family blog, he he. Anyway the good news about this weekend, is
England beat Australia in the 20/20 Cricket World Cup, and the team did'nt
even break into a sweat. Well done boys you deserved it. So come on the
Footie team, win the Cup in South Africa.

Well got two matches this weekend. Saturday at Tirley, and the third aggregate
match on Sunday for Permali at Elton Farm. The Tirley match is an open, that
Steve Ford (Daiwa Gordon League) as arranged. Its a 22 pegger, so should be good.
As always i will let you know how i get on later. Who knows i might do okay in
these two matches. YEAH! i know, and pigs can fly. I can read your minds!.he he.

RODS AND REELS.

This weeks match was the fourth in the summer Championship series. (9 matches with the best
6 results counting). The match was held on Rio Segura at Murcia. The river did'nt fish to its
potential on the day, due to a strong downstream wind, making fishing the pole very difficult.
In saying that all anglers caught. If you remember I lost my top 2 section here a fortnight
ago, and I did want to retrieve it. Stuart from the club, brought on the day a pair of chest
waders, so that after the match I thought I could wade out,and with a rake try to retrieve the
top section. Firstly the waders were a size 8, I take a size 9, and after somehow
managing to get them on with my toes near my ankles, decided to enter the river. The pole
section is some 13 metres out, and after getting out about 6-7 metres, and finding myself
slowly getting deeper in silt, common sense prevailed, and I managed just to get back out.
Don't try this at home. Anyway, the positive from this is do not fish with any heavy weights,
either float or feeder on the bottom as it will always sink into the silt very quickly. The
silt must be 9 inches + thick.

Got to clear out my van, and reorganise everything, as i'm picking up Lewis tomorrow. Thats the
problem when you only have a small van. But can't complain, i know what its like having no transport
for a couple of weeks. I will let you know how i get on later, so for now you all have a good weekends

PRE-DRAW.

Yesterday there was an open match fished here, with some 100lb+ bags being caught. Personally i don't
enjoy fishing a place thats been hammered the day before. My biggest weight before from here was 70lb
odd, so a bit of that would do nicely. Mind you that was a few years ago, when the fish were immature.
They have grown well in the last few years thats for sure. When I started fishing this place many moons
ago, there was'nt many rules, but unfortunatley the rules list is now as long as your arm . Would'nt
these commercials be better off just telling you what you can do, instead of what you can't. Save a
fortune on paper, he he. One rule is, you have got to have 6 inches of line minimum between your pole tip,
and float. Whats all that about. Whats the difference if you have 2 inches or 2 foot, ain't going to
stress the fish any different is it?

Nice place to look at though. Its got the lot, cafe, toilets, chalets, bloody long walk if you draw the
far end. What more do you want, he he. Anyway a few lads had a breakfast, and a mug of tea before the
draw. Weather wise it was a tadge cold, wind was a bit blowy. If you drew the nearest to the car park
end, the wind was quite strong, and cold. The water was fairly choppy too. If you were on the far end to
the car park, it was a different world. No wind, and flat calm. I know which end i would like to draw?.
The wind was actually blowing from far end to the car park. So the wind was blowing into the lower pegs.
Good pegs to have if the weathers warm. But it being cold today you would have thought the other end
would be the place to be?.

All this writing above, you lot are probably thinking there excuses, if i have had a bad day. Well! you
would be right, i did have a bad day, and these are excuses. But lets be honest, if we did'nt have
excuses, we would take up a different sport would'nt we.

THE DRAW.

Tell you the truth, i was hoping for a high number, so i could be out of the wind, so when it was my
turn to draw, i stuck my mitt in the bag, and pulled out permanent peg 17. The last peg on the canal,
far end. A dream draw, when you get to this peg its like having your own lake to yourself. You have a
nice chuck to the corner of the island, which leads into the next canal in front of you. You have the
end of the canal to fish up against. You have a nice depth in front of you, and good looking margins.
The entrance to the canal behind me was only about 8 metres away, so i had all this to myself as well.
You can understand why 100lb+ weights come off this area. To my left on permanent peg 16, was Andy
Salcombe, a very good angler.

THE MATCH.

I set up my pellet feeder to fish to the Island. I set up one paste line at 6 metres,
both margins either side of me, and a pellet line at 11 metres to the end of the canal.
Fed one side of the margins with meat, and the other side with pellet, and corn. Fed
the 11 metre line also with meat. On the whistle i fed the margins by hand. Paste line,
and the 11 metre line with the cup. The plan was to start on the feeder, for the first
hour, see how it went, then going onto the paste line, take a few fish on this line, then
change to the 11 metre line. Alternating between the two lines, until the last two hours.
Then down the margins for the rest of the match. THAT WAS THE PLAN?.

Cast out the pellet feeder to the clip, tight to the Island. Put my rod in the rest, and
looked around to my left. One peg past Andy, and Roy Davis was into a carp straight away.
His gear could'nt have been in the water longer than thirty seconds. I thought that was a
good sign. So while waiting for my tip to shoot round, i heard Andy say something to Roy,
so i looked round, and Roy was into his second Carp already. C'MON CARP!. So Roy had landed
two Carp in about five minutes, and that was that for the next half hour. Then Andy hooked a
Carp on his feeder line, while watching him, my rod shot forward, and it was my turn to play
a Carp. Two minutes later i had a Carp in the net for about three pound. Then everything just
went dead. Maybe just an hour later while i was on the paste line, my float buried, and i
was into my second Carp, which i landed, he was about five pounds. So how it stood Roy had
two fish, Andy had two fish, and I had two fish. That ladies, and Gentlmen was that until
the last hour. The margins did not produce on either side of me. Mind you the one on the
left was destroyed by a poxy Swan, which was up ended, and enjoying all the freebies that
lay there. The last hour saw Roy land a Bream for about five pound, and a couple of small
Carp. Andy landed another three Carp, And myself having two more bites on the pellet line,
lost one, and missed the other. So there you go two poxy fish all day, great or what.
This is the first time in ages that i could not wait for the whistle to go. That is how
depressing it was. Especially after these pegs were sacked up yesterday in the open match.

Not many of us had a good day, with a couple of exceptions of course. Well done Dale for
blitzing the match. Jason's peg springing to life in the last hour to finish a close second.

Well i don't know how to sum this up really. A lot of the Anglers in this club are very good

anglers, and most struggled. Did the open match effect todays result. Well i think so.

Next week i have my first aggregate match for Watersmeet. It is being fished at Mythe pool, near
Tewkesbury. The biggest match weight i have heard of off here for the last couple of years
has'nt been pleasent reading. So probably 15lb will win it. Jesus, really looking forward to
this one. (not). I will let you know how painful this one is next week. Dave's results will be

This weeks match was the third in the summer championship series. This being 9 matches,
with the best 6 scores to count. The match was held at the Embalse de Ojos at Blanca.
The venue well noted for not producing big weights, and everybody having to work hard
to catch fish. Bleak are reasonably abundant in all pegs, however the majority of
anglers set their stall out for the big fish. For a change there was no drama on the
day. Only highlight being a young Spanish Lady turned up, and after a brief onr sided
conversation with one of our members (no names) sat a few yards from him as he was the
end peg, and proceeded to start fishing. Our member who had only caught Bleak at this
point watched, and learned as some 20 minutes later she hooked into, and landed a
Barbel. Well was he red faced or what!!!!. After she had gone our man who had thoroughly
noted how she caught the fish, to his credit managed to catch one Barbel, but lost two.

Well its the final round today, the series outcome will be decided
today. Top spot is between Andy Salcombe, and Jason Wellington. They
have been the front runners throughout the series. As for myself, i
was up for the wooden spoon, But considering Nick willis, and Barry
Matthews could'nt make it, the wooden spoon fell to Nick. Well done
Nick he he. So today we had 10 series anglers fishing, with 4 guests
invited to make up the numbers to 14 fishing. The guest anglers were
Dale Malpas (Singapore). Roy Davis, Mark Price, and Charlie Chang.
Why Dickie invited Charlie for, is beyond me, he was one of two who
knackered up the series from the start. But i suppose thats how
forgiving Dickie is. Anyway Charlie turned up paid is £20, and
went back home, with the flu. He's half Chinese, so i suppose it was
the Asian flu, he he. So now it left 13 anglers to fish. Fair play it
was a bit complicated for the draw, as the 4 guests had to be split.
Two in one section, and two in the other. The only good thing is the
draw was done before Charlie turned up, and said he was not fishing.
So there was a draw for the guests to see which section they were in.

Neither Jason nor Andy were over happy with there draws. The good thing
for the series were, they both drew in the same section, so that meant
it could only come down to points, and not weight. As for myself i could
only fish for some coin on the day, and considering Charlie buggered off
before the start. That meant i had an end peg. With my fishing skills, that
probably does'nt mean much, He he. The overall payouts on the series was
paying the top four, so there was still plenty at stake for the top seven
anglers. For the rest of us it was just about fishing for the match payout.
Which was 1st, and 2nd in the sections, plus a bit of pride.

THE MATCH.

The lake has had plenty of cold rain in the last couple of days, so no one
was expecting great weights. Todays weather seemed not to bad, it was raining
on the drive up here, but during setting up, and the match it never rained at
all. Bloody weather forcasters need shagging, they said it was going to rain
for most of the day, so muggings here forked out 25 quid for a new bloody brolly
yesterday. Well i suppose i've got one, just in case it rains in the future.
Now i don't know about you, but i hate fishing the pole with a brolly up. I
kinda get tangled up with it. Anyway back to today's conditions, the wind was
quite strong coming from the North, so if you were on the road side in
section "A" you had the wind in your face. But if you were on the far bank,
like myself it was coming from behind, and we had a nice hedge behind us, taking
the brunt of it. It was overcast, with a nice ripple on the water, so some fish
should be caught. I set the pole up, to fish at 7 metre's, as i had about 6 foot
of water. A nice depth, and a comfortable distance for the pole. Also set up a
feeder to fish at about 30 metre's.

The whistle for the all in sounded at 10.00am. I fed four balls of Groundbait, and
one cupful of 4mm pellets on the pole line. Then i filled the feeder with Groundbait,
and 4mm pellets, then cast out to the clip. Hook bait was a 4mm ringers expander
pellet, on a size 16's mustad wide gape hook. I waited 5 minutes then recast, i done
this three times before i had my first bite, which pulled the tip all the way around.
One minute later there was a small skimmer in the net. After the first hour i had
only four skimmers, and i was starting to think the pellets were'nt going to work.
But considering i ain't got much to fish for, i decided to stick with the pellet.
I tried the pole line, and had four more quick skimmers, before this line died.
Okay! i thought decision time, so out went eight balls of groundbait, and two pot-
fuls of pellet. It was either going to work, or it was'nt. Good bit of philosophy
that, he, he. Back out on the feeder, i had four more quick skimmers with the biggest
about 14ozs, and this started to slow. Tom on the next peg came up, and asked me how
i was doing, i told him i had about 12 skimmers. He must have thought i was fibbing,
as he said he was really struggling, and this was after two hours. Ten more minutes
went by without another bite, so i thought it was time for the pole. Out went the
pole, not expecting anything, and the float dissappeared, and another skimmer graced
the net. For the next two hours i caught steady catching another seventeen skimmers.
Then the pole line totally died. I had some maggot, and worm with me so i decided
to chop some worm, and pot it out just to see. Went back out on the feeder for half
an hour, without so much as a touch. Tried the pole line again, and put double red
maggot on the hook. My next four fish resulted in three small perch, and one small
roach, and that took about an hour. So i went back out on the feeder for the rest
of the match, and added two more skimmers I finished the match with 32 skimmers,
3 tiny perch, and 1 tiny roach for 14lbs plus. During the match Mark on peg 7, the
flier for most of the series packed up with a couple of hours to go, having no fish.
Dickie struggled on the other flier peg 6, crazy venue or what. This time of year on
this venue, and for the rest of the summer you really don't know where the winners
coming from. Thats what makes this place so good. Okay in the winter you know the
winners going to come from the deeps, but thats winter fishing for you. As for me
i came second in the section, and picked up £35. With Dale Malpas winning for £50.
Why the hell did they lift the Volcano ash threat over Britian for, because if they
did'nt Dale would still be stuck in Singapore, and i would have won the £50. (bitter,
and twisted, or what). Anyway the good news is, as Dale was a guest, that means he's
not in the points, so i did win the section in the series with one point. YEE AH!
lost my virginity at last? he he.

The battle of the big guns came first, and last in the section, so it was quite an
anti climax really. Well done Jason for winning the section. Unlucky Andy for
coming last in the section. Terry finishing third in section, and third overall.
Unlucky Tommy who was in my section blowing out on the last match, and having
fourth place took off him by Brian, who finished second in his section. All in
all it was a good match, with some guys happy, and some guys blowing out. But at
the end of the day thats what fishing is all about.

No one finished on the same points, which i thought is unusual.
But at least no one can blame there overall weight for letting them
down. It was a very good series, and everyone enjoyed it. Dickie as
said he intends to run it next year, and everyone as said they will
fish it. I think Dale, and Roy will fish it next year so we can get
it back to a 14 angler series.

Congratulations to Jason for fishing a superb series, and taking top
spot. Unlucky again Andy, who knows what would have happened if you
would have been in the other section. But as you know mate, thats fishing.

I won't put down the prize money for the top 4, just in case their wives
are reading this, and they ain't told them the truth about how much they've won.
Don't want to get the boys in trouble do we, he he. As for me i finished
10th overall, thats only because the bottom two did'nt fish this match.
Maybe thats got something to do with the laxitives i put in there tea's
last night, he he. So hopefully i can improve next year, and finish in the
top half.(dream on son).

RODS,AND REELS.

This weeks match was the 2nd in the summer Championship.This is a series of 9
matches with the best 6 results being used to determine the winner. The match
was held The match was held on the Rio Segura in Murcia. A venue that is fishing
very well. Everybody caught fish, although the river on the day was pushing
through. For myself i went the hog this week, and managed to not only lose some
very big fish into the reeds, but also lost the top two sections of my pole.
If anybody is fishing at Murcia halfway between the road bridge, and the crystal
bridge, and catch a top two section, you know who to phone. Other than that the
day went very well!!!!.

Cheers Dave thanks a lot mate. Look forward to the next one,
see if you can keep all your tackle intact. he he. Well has for me,
i never went pleasure fishing in the end. Had orders from her
indoors to do the garden, so Saturday was tied up. As for Sunday,
my darling decided, (considering i had no match on) that i should
take her out for the day, as we only pass by each other once in a
while in the house. ( i say hello everytime we pass, whats wrong
with them, don't they realise fishing is a religeon). But being a
considerate husband, i caved in, and took her out for the day.
I suppose its got its advantages, i won't have to take her out again
for another decade, he he. So no fishing this week at all. Sunday
is our last match in the winter series, so looking forward to that.
Watersmeet meeting is this Sunday as well, 12 o'clock dinner
time, well done Dickie, and Graham, for organising these two
events to clash. So i wont have a clue what goes on at the meet.
Never mind the boys at the meeting are mostly piss heads, so i
won't miss much. Now come on be sensible, who in there right mind
would organise a meeting on a Sunday dinner time, When Sunday
dinner time is prime fishing time. Can only be piss heads (i rest my case).
Well i hope i draw one of the fliers on Sunday, as i have not drew one yet.
So come on peg 6 or 7 please. Still 50 quid up for grabs for winning the
section. Well i hope you all had a good fishing weekend, bet you never had

Firstly many thanks to RTN for sponsoring this series as it grows from year to year.
This weeks match was the last in the "clash of the titans", between the teams for
the ROUNDTOWNNEWS Challenge Cup.The venue as before, was the Rio Segura at the Eden
Canal Stretch.Both teams managed full teams, however we had 3 dry nets but still
managed on the day to have equal points with our opponents. Due to our 2 point deficit
we lost by the narrowest of margins. Jim Rouse in my team fished a blinder in managing
not only to win his section, but the overall match. This he achieved in the last hour,
and by catching his best fish on the whistle.

Pete Hampshire now has full permission to have his replacement hip joint, as the

have been there on a far too regular basis. Role on next year, you can get your

As for me this weekend, i've got nowt on, but the good news, is my van is back on
the road, so maybe, just maybe i might get a pleasure fishing session in. All

PERMALI'S FIRST AGGREGATE MATCH.

PRE MATCH.

I would say this place is a fantastic fishery, it's a mixed fishery.
Believe me the place is full of fish. There is an island, which you can
reach with rod, and reel. I think about 4 pegs covers the island. So
one of those pegs would be handy. i have fished this place once before,
with watersmeet ac. Young lewis winning that match with 70lb+. He had
about 40lb of Skimmers, and Bream, and the rest of the weight came
from the lakes Carp. There are bonus Roach to be had as well. Lewis
caught long on the pole, and had fish all day. As for myself on the
pole i could only fish at 7 metres, as my daiwa tournament pro was
snapped the day before on the Gloucester canal.(i have snapped it a
few more times since, and now i would be lucky if i can fish 13 metres
with it, not bad considering its a 16 metre pole. At this rate it will
only be long enough for the margins by the end of this year) he he.

11 Anglers turned up today, so only one did not turn up, but considering
Dale Malpas is stuck in Singapore, because of the Volcanic ash, it would
be pretty hard for him to fish this one eh!. Any way he's a top notch
Angler who's very hard to beat, so do i feel sorry he's not here.
Ah! let me think? he he. Nick Willis is fishing today after fishing the
fish o mania qualifier yesterday at Tunnel Barn Farm. So the majority
of the lads our ribbing him about his did not weigh. But don't worry
about it Nick at least you gave it a go, aye mate. (even though you got
your bum spanked he he). The venue supply's its own keepnets. which is
good. The only rule we have a problem with is you must weigh any Carp
over 4lb, as your not allowed to put them in the keepnets Crazy, by the
time you've walked it to the scales, weighed it, and put it back, you
could of had another fish on. Imaging that rule at a place like Larford,
You would'nt be fishing for half the match. But rules are rules, even
how stupid they are. In 40 years of fishing i have never seen a fish die
from being in the keepnets.They say it could be stressful for the fish?
Well hang on a minute, would'nt a fish with an hook in its mouth being
towed towards the bank, and is obviously thinking it is fighting for his
life be a tadge bit more stressed. I have fished venues where you have Carp
in the net, that actually still feed when bait drops in the net. you can see
them gobble it up, does that sound stressed to you?. The weather was lovely
again today, more sun rays for the arms, and face. No wind either so fishing
the pole was a dream.

THE DRAW.

Mr i draw end pegs (Steve Evans) did it again, he drew peg 1. Felt sorry
for Roy Davis who drew peg 2 in the bay, he talked himself out of the match
even before he set up. Andy Salcombe drew peg 3 on the corner of the bay,
you can never tell if he's happy about his draw or not. I drew next to
him on peg 4. Guess what one peg away from the island.(no i never won the
lottery this weekend either). On the over side of me on peg 5, right on the
corner of the Island was Adrian Davis, Mr casting accuracy himself. Never
seen anyone cast as accurate has him. Obviously there's more around, but i
ain't never seen them. Peg 6 fell to Mr fish o mania himself Nick Willis.
Next to him on peg 7 was Steve Bee, i spied on his bait before the match,
and the bait he had, i never, erm!. Not looking good is it. Peg 8 fell to
Brian Dix (my taxi for the weekend, free taxi at that, cheers bri). peg 9
fell to the ever consistant Jason Wellington, jeez if he drew a bath tub,
he would still hammer me. But then again so would most of the field i'm
fishing against. (nothing new there then). Peg 10 went to Charlie Chang,
hope he catches nowt for messing the series matches up. Nah! Charlie
is an okay guy really.Last but not least Dickie drew the end peg 11. He
was okay with that.

THE MATCH.

Set up the pole to fish at 12 metres, remembering how far Lewis fished out
the last match. I had about six feet of water at this distance. The bottom
was nice, and flat. Also set the pellet feeder to fish at distance.
My 12 metre line was set up with double number 5 elastic, just incase the
carp put in an appearance. 0.7 tuff eye float, to main line 0.14. Hook length
was 0.12, with number 18's preston hook. Bulk shotted a foot from the hook,
with a couple of droppers. My margin line was set up with 0.3 float with 0.16
line straight through to a number 14's kamasan b611 hook. This line would
hopefully be for a bonus Carp later on in the match. My pellet feeder was a
Guru pellet feeder set with a 4 inch hook length. with a chocolate hard pellet
banded on a size 16's hook. I wanted to try for a bonus Carp at the beginning.

The all in went at 10.00am, so i cupped in one small ball of groundbait, and
one cup of micro's with a few 4mm pellets on the 12 metre line. I then fed the
margin swim by hand with sweetcorn. Cast out my feeder which was clipped up,
about 20 feet to the left of the Island straight out in front of me. Adrian on
the next peg cast to the Island, and dropped it perfectly within inches of the
corner of the Island, i could only watch, and admire. My first fish came within
5 minutes, not the Carp i was praying for, but a skimmer about 6 ounces. Re-cast,
and tried again. The feeder was only in the water 30 seconds, and the tip wanged
around for me to land another skimmer which was smaller. Cast out the third time,
put the rod in its rest, looked up to see Adrian playing a much bigger fish. Yep
a bloody Carp (sigh).He had to weigh this one as it was over 4lb, Adrian was not
amused, (can't blame him really). I had my third bite, and again a small skimmer
came to the net. Well this ain't no good is it, casting forty yards for these
little bloody things, i thought i might as well go on the pole, and catch them,
at least it would be quicker. Adrian was again into another Carp, but this one
was okay to put in the net. So i went out on the pole, on the 4mm pellet, and it
got intercepted on the way down by a small roach, great here we go again. So i
stepped up to a 6mm pellet, and bulked my shot closer to the hook, at least my
pellet was getting to the bottom. Started catching skimmers on a regular basis,
so i was enjoying it. After about two hours i had a few in the net with my biggest
skimmer going about 10 ounces, meanwhile Adrian was into his tenth Carp, all smallish,
but they were weight builders. Put two more balls of grounbait in, then rested
the swim while i went back out on the feeder. Two small skimmers later, and i thought
to hell with this, so i tried the margins. Put on a piece of sweetcorn, and caught
straight away, not the Carp i was hoping for, but a small roach that had no right to
attack a bait that was bigger than his gob. Tried again, and i was missing the bites,
bloody small roach. Went back out onto my 12 metre line, and started to catch straight
away, skimmers. Adrian came in on his pole line now as his feeder line had dried up.
He like myself was catching steady. Andy to my right was starting to bag up very short,
about 3 metres out.So he was out, then back in very quickly. Unlike fishing at 12 metres
aye. Biggest fish i had was a bream about two pound, had a few around the three quarter
pound mark, but the rest were small ones.I ended up with 60 skimmers, and a handful of
small roach, and rudd. Tried the margin s a few times, but to no avail.The match ended
at 4.00pm.

POST MATCH.

Jason, Steve Bee, and, Andy all fished short, and it certainly worked for them. No way
was i going to touch these guys, the same with Adrian with those Carp he had. Jason,
Charlie, and Adrian were the only ones to have the bonus Carp. As for myself the only
thing different i could have done was using bigger baits like worm, but considering i
never had any with me that would have been difficult to do. So i think under the
circumstances i did the best i could of off this peg, never really had any quite periods.
Well thats my opinion anyway.(thats probably why i'm a shite angler he he).

Well it was an enjoyable day, everyone caught fish, i never came last, the sun was
shining, the ducks were quacking, everything went smooth with my fishing for a
change. I can actually laugh at the ones who finished behind me today. (which just
lately has been a rarity). Well are next aggregate match is at ridgeway fisheries,
at the Cotswolds Water Park near Cirencester. All Carp at last.

PERMALI'S WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 7.

PRE MATCH.
Only eleven turned up for this one, as Nick Willis had a fish o mania
qualifier at Tunnel Barn Farm. So you could say that was a good enough
reason to miss our series match, even though he blew out big time.
He had a did not weigh. (did not weigh, that sounds familiar to me).
So it was going to be 6 in one sction, and 5 in the other, there was no
other way around it. So who knows if i draw in the section with just 5,
then i won't finish sixth will I,he he. Thanks to Brian Dix who picked
me up today, and is taking me fishing tomorrow as well. My van should be
up, and running hopefully by thursday. The only problem with getting a
lift is Brian likes a pint or two after the match. Now has i have'nt had
an alcoholic drink since way before Christmas, those two pints of lager i
had went straight to my head. Felt a little tipsy. I was no angel when
it came to drinking in the past. Well to be honest you could say (and you
would be right) that i was a seven day a week piss head. But that all
changed when they brought in the smoking ban a couple of years ago. So
as i don't drink in the house, my consumption of alcohol has deminished
to zero. Which is good for my pocket, but no good to the pubs. I would
rather have a smoke than a drink, so there was no contest between the
two.

THE MATCH.
Today for this match i decided that even if i don't catch much, i was
going to use the pole, and pellet through out. Well thats a lie, i was
going to start on the feeder just to allow time for the pole line to
settle, after the initial feed. There's no way i'm going to do well
in this series, so i might as well enjoy it. Pole, and pellet is one
of my favourite's, so come rain or shine i was determined to fish it.
The tow on the water was'nt no where near as bad as it has been. Actually
it was just right. The weather was lovely, sunshine all day, a little bit
of wind.(suntan weather yeah!). The all in went at 10.00am, so i cupped in
two small balls of fish meal ground bait, with micro pellets over the top.
Went on the feeder with groundbait, and micro's in the feeder, and a 4mm
expander on the hook. Third cast i hooked, and landed a skimmer of about
four ounces, followed by another one of the same stamp. Okay any sane
angler would have stayed on this method, but like i said i wanted to enjoy
the day, so i switched to the pole. It was a struggle, but i did manage ten
skimmers on the pole, Everybody else seemed to be bagging on the feeder,
but they were in a battle, because most of them were still in with a chance
of framing overall. Me i just enjoyed the day catching rays from the sun. I
think everybody struggled in the last couple of hours, has the sun was strong,
and the wind had dropped to nothing, leaving the lake like a mill pond. Flat,
with no ripples. Not the best weather for skimmers has you know. The battle
from the two front runners in the series was going well. Andy on peg 12 was
catching steady throughout the day, same as jason was off peg 4.It is
certainly going to be close between these two at the end of the seies. They
were both in different sections, so top spot in the sections were on the
cards for both of them. Richard on peg 6 was bagging steadily, after the
crap series he was having in the first few matches, it was nice to see
him into the fish. Barry on peg 9 was fishing with a number 4 elastic in
is pole, then along came one of the lakes tench, and he had some fun with
it for 5 minutes before his self, and the tench parted company. Not an
happy chappy. Everybody caught double figures, except me. So they all had a good
match. As for me i'm as red as a Lobster from the sun, so i have no complaints.
Brian off peg 2 did'nt fair to well in is section finishing last in section A,
with 15lb odd. First time peg 7 did'nt finish in the top two, only managing
to finish fourth this time, unlucky Tommy that will teach you for drawing it
twice on the trot. Peg 6 coming out on top with 28lb odd, well done Richard,
you've managed to get off the bottom of the series table, that honour now
falls to yours truly. (good ain't i). Terry (peg 3), and Jason (peg 4) had
a ding dong battle, with Jason coming out on top by just over a pound between
them. Steve Bee on peg 5, had 19lb odd, but was only good enough for fifth.
Never mind Steve there's always tomorrow mate eh!. Back to my section, well
we know who finished last in this one, so we shall not mention that again
okay!. Barry on peg 9 finished with 12lb odd, fair play mate that lost tench
cost you a few places. Dick on peg 11 was doing well in the first half of the
match, but he struggled in the second half to finish third in section.
Steve Evans who seems to live on end pegs finished second, behind Andy by
just over a pound. Well done Andy winning the section again.

Sorry Nick i thought i was last but i just done the results, and
its you thats bottom. I will try my hardest on the last match to
finish with the wooden spoon.There's still 4 of us with a chance
of picking the wooden spoon award.

Well done Andy getting top spot back from Jason its going to be a
good last match between you two. I hope you both draw different
sections just to give it some added spice. Terry has a very long
shot of winning overall, but the top two would need to be tied up
before the match started. For Terry to win, Andy, and Jason would
need to finish last in there sections, thats of course if they draw
different sections. Terry would need to win his section with 18lb+,
and the top two blanking. I think we can say Terry has got to be happy
with third overall, and thats if the one's behind him, let him.
Five anglers could finish third, so that battle is going to be good
also. So really looking at it, its only Steve Bee who can't win
anything, can't finish in the top three, or even pick up the wooden
spoon. Never mind Steve there's always £50 up for grabs if you win
the section.

Well only one match left in the series, don't time fly when your having

a good time.(not). It will be fasinating how this one is going to end up.
Two boys at the top fighting for number 1 spot, and me fighting for the
wooden spoon.(does'nt really sound as much fun as the number 1 spot does it).

Tomorrow our first aggregate match starts. It wil be fished at Tarrington
lake, its a mixed fishery so i will let you know how we get on. As long as

MAGGOTS END
RODS, AND REELS.

This weeks match was the first in the summer championship series, and was held on
the Rio Segura at the Eden Canal stretch. This is a series of 9 matches with the
best 6 scores counting, and this will be completed by mid July. Its all like go,
every week there is one series or another. However, this does keep you on your toes
as there is always something to fish for at each match.

For me this week i had a brilliant day, in not catching any Terrapins, or breaking
my pole!!!!. The water level had dropped just over a foot, giving the majority of
anglers only about 2ft 6ins in depth, and this was reflected in the overall weights.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The fresh water angling championships this year are being held at Ciudad Real on Lake
Vicario. This is approx 4 hours from Murcia, and is just south of Madrid. The
Championship matches are held over 2 days, a 3 hour match on each day. The dates are
26/27 June. There are a few of us going from the club for the weekend, so if you
fancy a weekend away to watch the good guys fish, see you there.

Well once again Cheers Dave, you started this series off okay.

Finishing third keeps you well in it. Try, and win this series Dave, so

at least one of us can keep the flag flying for us writers.

Now as for me this week, well my matches are like the buses, you don't

see one for awhile, then you get two turn up at once. YEP! two matches

this weekend YIPEE!. Vans still in a coma though, but thank heavens for

mates aye.

I would like to tell you a little story. Well the story goes like this.

Once upon a time there was this match organiser named Dickie. This man

organises the matches for Permali. Before Christmas Dickie arranged 8 matches

for our winters league. Got all the dates for Sundays. Well you think, whats

odd about that. Well here's the strange bit, Dickie being the organiser has also

organised our Aggregate matches for this year. Dickie checked, and re-checked

both fixture lists so no matches clash. He even got one of his daughters to check.

Well done Dickie for all that checking you may say. WHAT a knob i say!. Fair

play Dick if you were a Doctor your patients would all be dead in a week.

Why so harsh you say. Well all the checking he did, and he never noticed that

our 7th winters league match is dated for this Sunday 18th april, and our FIRST

aggregate match is dated for, wait for it! Yep, Sunday 18th April. So now he's had

to arrange the series match for this Saturday, lucky for Dickie no one else has booked

the place. You lucky person you. The good news is, it is all sorted out now. Phew got

a way with that Dickie aye mate, and we all lived happily ever after.

On a more serious note Dickie does a good job all round, and mistakes happen.

(well thats what his mum, and dad said anyway) he he. Keep up the good work

Dickie, you are an angel mate.(plus i need a lift for both days).

So Saturday is our winters league match, the seventh round at Drummonds Dubb. and

Sunday is our first aggregate match, which is at The Mill Pond, Tarrington. I will

keep you informed of how i do in both matches in future posts, so its bye for now,and

keep those rods bent this weekend.

MAGGOTS END.

RODS, AND REELS.

The match this week was the last in the winter championship.
This has been a series of 11 matches with the best 8 to count.
The river was flowing through nicely, and the day was nice, and warm.
However, for me i had a nightmare. In the first three hours i caught
5 terrapins with an estimated weight of 15 Kilo's (30lb+). If it had
been a terrapin only match, i would have walked it!!!!!.
Then to add insult to injury at 3 oclock with 30 minutes to go, i
started to catch some fish.I hooked into a good fish which took me to
the reeds, and on pulling my pole it parted company in the 6th section.

Pete Kerr next to me quickly cast his feeder rod over the sections slowly
moving to the far bank. This was to no avail, so very kindly, Pete drove
me round to the other side of the river, and i managed to cut the line to
free the pole. Again another kind angler Derek Swann, stopped fishing, and
came up, cast his feeder rod over the pole, and managed to bring it to
safety. That was 3.30pm, and my match was over. Everybody else had a nice
day.

TOP ANGLERS ON THE DAY.

1st. Bill(the master)Reade fishing the pole using maggot with 10.98 Kilo's.
2nd. Paul(poco loco)Baxter fishing the pole using maggot with 7.96 Kilo's.
3rd. Mick(the arsenal)Hill fishing the pole using corn with 5.26 Kilo's.

The only good thing of the day for me was (only just) winning the winter
championship.

OVERALL POINTS WITH THE 3 WORST MATCH RESULTS TAKEN OFF.

1st. Dave Hoare with 32 points.
2nd. Paul Baxter with 33 points.
3rd. Bill Reade with 45 points.

Again this week the club has been down to the floaded areas where there
are fish stuck in the drying out fields, and have rescued another 50 odd.
This brings the overall amount to around 250.

This is a picture of the renovated Sweetwater, as can be seen, the banks
are at an angle of circa 45 degrees, and when the workers have finished
then maybe some swims can be cut in.

Congratulations Dave for winning the series mate. At last a writer has won
something. I'm afraid this writer is bottom but one of our winter series.
Never mind at least one of us came good. Fair play to you mate 15 kilo's
of terrapins, that would do me at the moment. I would even struggle
catching a cold at the moment. Well done for saving all those fish
as well mate. You could'nt put them in my keepnet for my next match
could you he he. But saying that with my luck lately, i would know doubt
have an hole in the bottom of my net?. Thanks again for your reports
Dave, keep them coming buddy. Well, as for me this weekend, i have got
no match on, can't even go pleasure fishing, because my van is still
in a coma. So looks like a shite weekend in front of the telly (sob).

Before we start, yesterday i told you all that i lost my camera.
Well the missus came home from work, and i told her i lost it, or
left it in Brians van. She went straight to it, and said i put it
there when i came home from fishing on Monday. Dickie i swear if
your reading this i will never call you senile again, because its
bleeding me who's senile. I can't remember bringing the camera in,
let alone putting it anywhere. Fair play lads we would be lost
without the wifes would'nt we.

ROVER MATCH.

Why do i let myself get talked into these matches, must be that
i'm easy money for them. But then again i suppose its experience.
(don't think i can take much more of these experience's). Well
i do like the crack, plus it gives the other guys something to
laugh about. I mean if it was'nt for people like me (pools fodder)
who would they have to top there wallets up. Thats why God put me
on this planet for, to help others. I should become a saint really.
Imagine me walking around with an halo above my swede. Look bloody
cool would'nt I.

The seven anglers fishing today are myself, Brian Dix, Steve Evans,
Jason Wellington, Andy Salcombe, Steve Bee, and Nick Willis. I would
like to say thanks to Bri for picking me up for this match, cheers
mate, your a gem. It was a rover match today so we put 7 numbers in the
hat, and drew to see who had first choice of what peg they wanted.
Everyone was saying bet Jason draws number one, and he bloody well
did too. Fair play mate i thought they were joking when they said
you were Mr draw bag. But now i guess they was'nt. Steve Evans holds
the match record on this lake. All of them know this place as well as
if it was in there own back gardens. See told you i was pools fodder.
Well i suppose with the exception of Brian who has only fished the place
about 10 times!. I drew number three, and considering i don't know much
about the place i might as well have drawn number seven.
Anyway i looked at the peg straight in front of me, and thought that would do,
as i ain't a keen walker at the best of times. Jason said don't have that
one mate fish by the outlet, that should be okay. So taking his advice i strolled
the 40 yards to the peg, and settled down on this one. Jason disappearing in
the distance to the other side of the lake. Now anyone with half a brain would
have watched where he went, and headed in the same direction. No not me aye!.

Steve Evans actually settled down about 6 pegs away from me on the
bend, so i thought it can't be that bad. I mean the match weight holder
should know where to go should'nt he?. The peg i was going to go too
was now in the hands of Nick. Apparently the peg that Andy picked was
a peg he has won off quite a few times, so he was very happy.
Steve Bee was dead opposite me, with just the island between us.
Brian parked is arse in between Steve Evans, and Jason, they still
had about 9 or 10 pegs vacant between them. Not bad 7 anglers on a
65 peg fishery. So you could say we were well spaced out.
Saying that the pegs are quite close to one another, if you fished the margins
at 6 metres, the tip of your pole could pick the noses of the anglers either
side of you. Which probably would'nt go down to well with them.

The match kicked off at 9am, i fed the pole line at 7 metres with micro pellet.
Then cast out the pellet feeder to the island, it was only about a 20 metre chuck.
The peg i was going to have, which now Nick was fishing, was like a mill pond, the
water was flat calm. Where i was now, and Steve Evans peg the wind was blowing
a gale. Stayed on the feeder for about 45 minutes never had a touch. So went on
the pole line. Within 5 minutes of changing to the pole, i had my first Carp, a
fish of around 4 pounds. The wind was really strong, and it was whipping my pole
around even though i was only fishing at 7 metres, the presentation was going out
of the window big time. Had another carp of around 4 pounds, and that ladies, and
gentlemen was that. One more bite, which i missed was what i had for the rest of
the match. I did have some fun watching Nick, and Steve Bee bag up, so it was'nt
all that bad.(sob). Steve Evans to my left on the bend had the same amount as me.
Two fish. He had the same problem with the wind. Nick fished is pole at 16 metres,
with no wind problem at all. Why oh why did i listen to Jason, should've gone
straight to that peg. But i should'nt whinge, because lately i have been total
crap at fishing, so no doubt i would have screwed that peg up anyway. So by
now you would have guessed the two no weighers. Do you know at Christmas i
thought 2010 might be my year. You know, pick some coin up at matches, pick even
a hell of a lot more coin up with winning the lottery. Stop smoking so i could
preserve a few more years of my life. Lose weight, so when i look in the mirror
i don't feel sick. Well so far the year 2010 as gone tits up, and its only bloody
April. If i did'nt laugh about it, i would cry for weeks on end. Who knows maybe
2011 might be better. he he. Right i suppose you want to know the results,
so i will tell you even though it breaks my heart. Okay here we go.

RESULTS.

1st. A.Salcombe. with 117-9-0.

Catching most on the pole, with luncheon meat.

2nd. S.Bee. with 102-5-0. again mostly on the pole,

ain't sure what bait, forgot to ask.

3rd. J.Wellington with 80-3-0.

Did'nt have a bite for last two hours.(breaks my heart).

4th. N.Willis. (my peg really). with 56-1-0.

Fishing pole at 16 metres,with pellet. Also never had a

bite for the last two hours.

5th. B.Dix. with 51-2-0.

Alternating between the method, and the pole.

TWO DID NOT WEIGH'S.

Steve Evans. 0-0-0. The reigning match record holder,

thats a distant memory now steve Eh!.

ROUND 6, PERMALI'S WINTER LEAGUE.

PRE-MATCH.

The last series match started with some nogging ripping my wing mirror
off my van a day before. This week it's a dead van. Great isn't it.
Need to get a new battery, but can't afford it just yet. Was meant to
have fished a charity match Friday, but no transport. So if matt the
organisor is reading this, sorry mate, i was looking forward to it.

Dick Lewis picked me up this morning at 7.30am. As Dick needs to get
there early, so he can organise everything. Lost half hours kip
because of that poxy battery. All 12 Anglers turned up on time for
the draw, good bunch of blokes, except they all keep stuffing me at
fishing. (hate you bleeding lot really, he he). Well they say things
come in three's, so with my van, it's two down,and one to go.
First the mirror, then the battery, number three will probably be
the van going up in smoke. So if you see an ex BT grey van driving on
the Gloucester to Ross road in two weeks billowing with smoke, and
some fat bugger hanging out of the window, you know it will be me.

THE DRAW.

Jason (nelly) Wellington drew Dicks peg first, he pulled out peg 8,same peg
drawn for him last week, so he was'nt to happy about it. Nelly!, sorry i
mean Jason, drew is own peg out next, and drew the same peg he had last
match which was peg 11. Crazy , first two drawn, drew the same pegs as
last match. I drew next, and preceded to draw peg 12, one peg away from last
time. Andy drew this peg last match, and had 16lb, so i should get half of
that hopefully. Terry vacated his normal residence, and moved from peg 9, to
peg 7, YES the bloody flier on the road side. Thats like moving from a two
bed terrace, to a 14 bed mansion, luck of some bloody people is amazing.
Peg 7 as never been out of the top two in section all series. No wonder
he was all happy like. Bri Dix drew peg 3, which has'nt really performed
this series, with just the odd reasonable weight coming off it. Barry had
is favourite peg again, peg 2, not very amusing aye Barry (unless your
writing this blog that is) he he. Nick Willis again drew peg 6, unbelievable
really ain't it. He thought it was quite amusing, i wonder if thats got
anything to do with it being as good as peg 7. Peg 9 (Terry's house) went
to Steve Bee, he was kinda chuffed too. Series leader Andy drew peg 5, i
think he was hoping for a better draw, so he could stay top of the series.
He sure had his work cut out for himself today. Tommy drew peg 4, and nobody
fancied this peg, as even in the summer it never seems to win. Richard drew
peg 10, he was okay with that. Steve Evans fancied an end peg, and got it,
he drew peg 13. Smiles all around again from Steve.

THE ALL IN.

Fed the pole line first with two small balls of groundbait, with micro pellet
over the top. Then casted out the feeder with chopped worm, and groundbait.
On my third cast the tip moved, and a minute later a skimmer graced the net.
My match started brilliantly, with 18 skimmers coming to the feeder in the
first hour, and a half of the match. Then it just slowed right down. As i
have said before, my feeder fishing skills are limited, so i really did'nt
have a clue what to try next. I gave it half an hour, with nothing, so i
changed to the pole. Fed a little feed through the pole pot, and used a
4mm expander on the hook. I managed one skimmer. The tow on the water
was unbelievable, my 0.75 gram float was actually lying almost flat, so
the presentation was terrible. The tow stayed strong for the remainder
of the match, as i kept trying it in periods. The rest of the match
i fished the feeder. I managed another 9 skimmers, and a handful of
Roach. I finished the match with 28 skimmers, and like i said a few
Roach for 13lb dead. Steve Evans to my left weighed 20lb odd, catching
most of his fish in the last hour, and an half. Jason to my right, again
preformed well to win the section with 25lb+. So again i was hammered
both sides of me. I was talking to Jason after the match, about what
happened with my swim, and how it slowed right down. He asked what length,
hook length i was using, and i stated about 6 inches. He then explained to me
that when i was catching well the fish were having it on the bottom, when
it slowed down there was a possibiltiy the fish were coming up in the water,
and intercepting the bait. He said he was using a 3 foot hooklength, and
caught all day. To be honest i never even thought about the fish coming up
in the water, did'nt think they did when feeder fishing. But compare his
weight with mine, and i know who a beginner would listen too.. I must admit
a couple of times when i did'nt have a bite for a while, i struck the rod,
and ended up hitting a fish. So yeah in hindsite they were up in the water.
Well you learn something new everyday. That one will stay in the brain
from now on. Simple when you think about it, is'nt it. But i did'nt realize
the fish came off the bottom when feeder fishing. What an IDIOT i'am.
Oh! well put it down to experience. Well done anyway Jason for winning
the section, after you gave me the tips you deserved it. Steve Evans coming second
in section just in front of Richard by a couple of ounces (1 skimmer).

In "A" section, the section was won by terry, YEP! peg bloody 7 again.
Andy fished a blinder to come second off his dodgy peg, well done Andy.
Brian finishing third just behind Andy with 18lb+. All roach, and 1 tench,
well done Brian, good weight that, considering you never had a skimmer.
It was a good day, no rain, everybody weighed in fish. Even with my limited
feeder skills i still enjoyed the day. I said at the beginning of the series,
that i would finish last overall, it looks like my prediction is going to
come true (sob). Still can't predict those bloody lottery numbers though.
(sob a bloody gain).

So thats 15 aggregate matches, with permali. I would guess its probably

So maybe about 40 matches. Should keep me busy for a while. Hoping to fish
a few opens this year as well, so it will keep the blog going, thats for sure.
Kingsholm Angling Cllub is i'm afraid, no longer. Its a shame, as its been running
for just over 15 years. They used to fish some great waters, like Hawford Bridge,
Willow lake, at the 3 counties fishery just outside ledbury. Manor farm, middle lake,
Evesham, and a few more. Feel sorry for Andy Cook who ran it from the begining.
He done an excellent job. But last year we only had 4 Anglers turning up on a
regular basis, and theres no way the club could exist. Well another good club
bites the dust. RIP.

I'am meant to be fishing a charity match at Larford this Friday (tomorrow),
but my van as died, and at the moment can't afford to get it going.
Just hoping i can get a lift for this one. Sundays match at Drummonds Dubb
should'nt be a problem, as all the anglers fishing this series come from
Gloucester, plus there mates as well. So should get a lift for this no problem.
Matt the guy who is running the charity match at Larford, as gone out of is
way so i can fish it, and it looks like i'am going to let him down. There's nothing
worse than letting a fishing organiser down, and i feel bad about it, but theres
nothing i can do about it. So please if anyone is fishing it, where Gloucester is not

ROUNDTOWN NEWS CHALLENGE CUP.

This weeks match was the third round in the RNT Challenge cup series.
This is a series of 4 matches with the points from each match totaled
up to give the winning teams.As said before, each team comprises of 12
anglers.(if they all turn up). All the matches are held on the Rio Segura
at Eden Canal. As has happened in previous weeks, we still had some dry
nets.(me being one of them). Again the noted pegs produced as can be seen
from the winning weights.

OVERALL WINNERS ON THE DAY.

1st. Dave(the sweetie man) Hutchinson fishing the pole using maggot with
10.400 kilo's.

2nd. Pete (the essex boy) Hutchinson fishing the pole using bread with
6.080 kilo's.

3rd.Pete (the peg) Hampshire fishing the pole using maggot with 5.680 kilo's.

With just the last match to go, it is all to fish for "Clash of the Titans.

After the tumultuous amount of rain lately causing the rivers to flood
their banks, a lot fish get pushed downstream to low lying area's which
slowly dry out. Intrepid members of the club manage to find, and net some
of these fish, and replace them back into the river.

Imagine, if you don't "BLANK" next time, you could win it overall. (he he).
But it happens to all of us, "me more than most" (sob). All you have had is
rain, looking at the news tonight, Scotland, and Northern Ireland have had
blizzards. I think, i'm not sure, but it is heading down this way. Great, so
much for winter being over. I have got two matches this week, Friday, and
Sunday, looks like the winter thermals are coming back out. Just started to
get my Carp head on, an all. Anyway less of my crying, thanks again for sending

This evening (Wednesday) we have got a meeting on down the boozer.
Which considering i don't drink anymore since the smoking ban,
it's going to be a swell evening?.
But saying that its basically just to pick up our fixture list for this years matches
with permali. Plus some of us got some winnings to pick up from last season.
When i say some of us, i mean some of them?. Great aye, once skint always skint.
I will put a post on the fixtures thursday, so i can share with you,
