2012 Excellence in Teaching Award

The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Veselin Jungic (Simon Fraser University) is the recipient of the 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award. The award recognizes sustained and distinguished contributions in mathematics teaching at the undergraduate level at a Canadian post-secondary education institution.

CMS Issues 2011 Math Camp Report

The 11th annual Summer School of the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) will take place at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, from July 16 to August 10, 2012. The school, which offers courses in the mathematical sciences and their applications, is intended for graduate students from all parts of the world.

No Signficant Difference Between Boys and Girls in Grade 8 Math Skills

A new report from the Council of Ministers of Education in Canada suggests there is no significant difference between male and female students in Grade 8 when it comes to math scores. The report also found that most students performed at the expected level of achievement in math.

PIMS Announces Memorial Lecture Series

Frontier Centre study on math in Canadian public schools

Lower CMS Membership Fees for 2012

The CMS has introduced new low cost membership categories and lowered regular membership fees for individuals for 2012. The lower cost membership fees were largely made possible by moving to an electronic distribution for CMS Notes for which a print subscription will continue to be available. At the same time, the low-cost fees for student and retired or unemployed members have been maintained.
