Fremont Summer Solstice

You may have noticed that I have not been posting on this blog lately – I have been way too busy with the book launch for La Figa: Visions of Food and Form and its blog/site/facebook site to keep up with my own. However I did want to share some of the photography that I did for the Fremont Solstice Parade here. This year I was shooting stills at the parade for the upcoming documentary film Beyond Naked. Grand Canyon River Rafting

I recently went on an amazing Grand Canyon river rafting trip, put together by guide Robby Pitagora. I went with a pretty light kit — Nikon D300, and three lenses: the Nikon 18-200, Sigma 10-20, and Nikon 50 1.4. It definitely would not have been worth the hassle to bring (and constantly change) the bigger professional lenses, and honestly I don’t think the photos would really have turned out noticeably better.

We are extremely pleased to announce that Tiberio will be telling his story, and presenting photographs from La Figa: Visions of Food and Form at the upcoming Seattle TEDx Rainier event on October 10th, 2010.

In the organizers’ words, TEDx Rainier is “a one-day gathering of thinkers, entrepreneurs, artists, and optimists designing better futures. This TEDx conference (an independently organized TED event) will feature Seattle’s guiding lights in global health, environmentalism, high tech, literary arts, and culture.”

2010 Seattle Erotic Art Festival

I have posted my photos from Friday night at this year’s Seattle Erotic Art Festival. After just a few years, SEAF has rapidly become one of Seattle’s premiere cultural events, as well as one of its best parties. If you missed it this year, don’t let it happen again!

A few highlights are here, and the rest have been posted as an album on my Facebook page. BTW, Facebook has finally changed their ridiculous “fan” nomenclature, so if you want to get updates on what I post there, you no longer have to become my fan — you can just “like” me.

Graffiti

I have been meaning to do a shoot at the closed and graffiti covered shell of the old Tubs in Seattle for a year. I finally got a chance to do it last weekend with metalsmith and model Mellington Cartwright (her metalwork is available at www.mellingtoncartwright.com).

Photographer’s Release Forms on the Go

mRelease, my newest iPhone app, is now available on the iTunes app store. Designed for filmmakers and photographers, mRelease makes getting releases easier than you ever thought it could be. Appearance Release (a.k.a. Model Release or Talent Release), Property Release, Location Release, and Crew Release are all included.

Once you have entered basic information about your shoot, for each release you just add some quick details about your subject, an image from the built-in camera or photo library, and get a touch-screen signature – it is that easy! La Figa: Behind the Scenes

Work on the La Figa: Visions of Food and Form project is continuing – we should have some news to report on publication of the book some time this spring. Meanwhile, Tiberio and I continue to shoot. We recently did two different shoots with two different pairs of women and two different small round fruits (grapes and cherry tomatoes). We are saving the final images for the book, but here are some fun behind the scenes shots of the process (it is a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it)…

Seattle’s Sexiest Physician and Personal Trainer/Stripper

Seattle’s alternative weekly paper, The Stranger, just announced their picks for Seattle’s Sexiest 2010 – the eight sexiest people in Seattle – and remarkably, both of our two cover models from this month’s sex issue of JUST CAUSE Magazine made the grade! A photo of mine of Lisa – now officially Seattle’s sexiest physician – is featured by The Stranger (the rest of the photos from that set have previously been featured here, and can be found on my Facebook fan page). Gabriel, Seattle’s sexiest personal trainer/stripper is also a good friend of mine, and one of my favorite models to work with.

Fremont Winter Feast

Burning Man iPhone App: Now Free!

Version 1.1 of my coffee table book for the iPhone – Burning Man 2008: A Photo Essay by Matt Freedman has now been released:

It includes post Burning Man 2009 updates to the text of my introduction, packing list, and guide to photography at Burning Man.
The app has now been gifted to the Burning Man community, and is available as a free download.

Also, if you or somebody you know may be interested in putting out your own coffee table book for the iPhone – either as a free app for promotional purposes, or as a paid app to make money – my platform is available for licensing. See my Monkfish Labs site for more information.

Stay tuned for updates about a Burning Man 2009 iPhone app. There is one coming, but it will be quite different than this one.

Maternity Nudes

Here are some samples from a recent maternity shoot in my studio. Some of these are shot with a black paper background, and some in the “dungeon” – the back storage room, which is technically part of the Seattle Underground.
