Back in January (2013) I did a long over due trip back to my home state of Perth to visit family and to also photograph the city and fill my on line gallery.

This shot was taken early in the new year. I had been trying to get a shot of the nearby boathouse, but everytime I drove past their was someone already set up waiting for either sunrise or sunset. On this particular evening the boathouse was once again occupied and it was a blessing in disguise. I had noticed that there was a lot of cloud over the city and it was starting to colour up and I had even seen what was the makings of a light rainbow.

I headed over near narrows bridge and by now the rainbow over Perth City was in full show and to river bank started to draw spectators. Was certainly a rare opportunity for me, especially when I was only in Perth for such a shot time. Funny enough the angle the boathouse was on missed everything, totally clear skys.

On Tuesday we delivered our first Newcastle Greeting Card and Newcastle Book spinner into the Unleashed Book shop located in the Kotara Westfield Shopping Centre.

The rack holds 28 handmade custom cards each with a different unique image of Newcastle on them. The card is a beautiful big C5 size (21cm x 14.5cm) in size and are blank inside. The racks also hold my new Newcastle landscape picture book that is also C5 in size and is 64 pages in length, hard backed and make for a perfect keep sake or gift.

The card retail for $4.50 each and the book is $14. Or you can get both for $15.

I remember coming here as a kid and I must say after returning some 15 years later is was great to see that the modernisation of the island has been done in good taste. Apart of the swarm of flies the light was exceptional as you can see from the range of shots I have added to my online gallery.

I wasn’t able to get the south side of the island as I had mistakenly taken a wrong turn and went through the middle and that ate up a good chunk of my time and also energy, the seat on my bike was brutal.

The Basin was the pick of the beaches that I shot, this image here being my favorite.

After riding around for 6 hours the ferry ride home was a god send and by pure luck I got to sit right next to the boats air conditioner, was absolute bliss.

This shot was captured on the Canon 5D Mk II with the 70 – 200mm f 2.8 lens and put together as a panoramic stitch. The detail is amazing you can still see people working in their offices and having dinner in their units.

My last night on the Gold Coast and I wanted to shoot something different, so I took a trip up to the top of the Q1 building in Surfers Paradise for a quick look. Very impressive view from the top as you can see, so I headed back well before sunset to grab the best spot. Few issues with my black t shirt getting in the view of my film shots as I was a big relaxed in draping it over the lens. But I got some keepers that for sure.

Here is a shot from my overnight stay in Brisbane. I had seen this image a few times and knew I wanted one for my own collection. The problem that faced me was the construction of the new Marriot building that dominates the skyline in the city now. Even with a 72mm lens on a 617 camera a once popular angle is no longer possible.

But you dont have to look (walk far) to find an equally impressive angle that fits nicely within the view of a 90mm lens.

This is one of those shots that I love doing where you turn up to a location with very little light where your light meter wont even give you a reading yet and you start with F16 and around 8 minutes and then monitor the light during the exposure and if your light meter begins to work then you finish the exposure around the 6 min mark. This is the result

I just completed a weeks shooting in Brisbane and along the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is certainly an impressive location and the sight of the Surfers Paradise buildings along the foreshore is a real statement. While I was there we had high tides and the amount of sand loss along Surfers was compared to that of the time of the floods. There were atleast 10 foot drop offs in sections where the beach was missing. Crazy stuff.
