52 award-winnin...g emerging artists from 11 countries converging in Osaka for one week at the prestigious Osaka Contemporary Art Center.

The goal of this exhibition is to present the public with a comprehensive collection of unique new works addressing issues in contemporary art by artists working or living in a transnational context. This special exhibition features new graphic, painting, sculpture, installation, multimedia, photography and new genres art work by 52 emerging and established artists from Australia; Belgium; Brazil; Canada; France; Italy; Japan; Mongolia; Spain; The United Kingdom and The United States; who are living and working between their home countries and Osaka. Transnational Art is a non-commercial and non-profit exhibition carefully curated to include some of the brightest and most talented artists active in our region.

Transnational Art 2011 presents a unique opportunity for people in Osaka and Kansai to discover talented artists enriching the art landscape in the region. These artists come from within and outside of Japan and through their unique visions, act as both mirrors and windows; allowing us to see ourselves and at the same time see through their works into other worlds. These artists find themselves working and living between different countries, cultures and ideas, and this is reflected in the work they produce.
The exhibition is curated by SoHo Art Gallery owners Celio H. Barreto (Canada) and Yachiyo Nakao (Japan), and it is independently produced with the participating artists, the cooperation of The Flanders Center and Osaka Arts Planning; is endorsed by the Kansai "Bunkaryou" Power of Culture project and has the participation of AVA Galleria of Helsinki, Finland and Taigado Garow of Kyoto, Japan.

'Kyoto, Geisha' is a simplified snapshot of an intricate sequence of events, a section of reality which pinpoints elements in a static present only alluding to a blurry history and an uncertain future. It is a setting for an infinite drama borrowing stylistically from American Photorealism of the Sixtes and Seventies, and more closely, from Richard Hamilton's work such as 'Swinging London'. The artist doesn't pursue a visual format with obvious historical references, he details his intrinsic knowledge to be revealed as a 'fait accompli' after the event. The fruition of this commodity is undertaken at many different levels, but ultimately its immediacy prevails over intellectual disquisition and presents the viewer with an image from contemporary storytelling.

「Kyoto, Geisha（京都、芸者）」は複雑な出来事の連続をシンプルなスナップショットに
収めた作品である。それは現実の断片であり、様々な要素をぼやけた過去と不確実な未来
をほのめかす静的な現在の中に釘付けている。それはアメリカの60～70年代のフォトレア
リズム－より正確に言えば「スウィンギング・ロンドン」のようなリチャード・ハミルト
ン作品－のスタイルを借りた無限のドラマへのセッティングだ。この写真家はわかりやす
く歴史に言及した視覚的形式を追ってはいない。彼は自身に本来備わっている知識を具現
化し、出来事の後の “既成事実” として露呈している。この商品の成果は様々なレベルで保
証されているが、究極的にはその即時性が知的論考を押しのけ、現代的ストーリーテリン
グのイメージを観客に提供するのである。
