Friday brings splendid sun and remarkable temperatures touching 50 in Southern New England, 40s into the North Country.  A powerful cold front is closing in from Canada at the same time a storm approches, though, and this should mean Saturday snow.  As of my most recent weathercast Thursday night, there was enough certainty to predict at least a few inches in Southern New England through coastal Maine - in the weathercast that followed the one in this video, I quantified a 3"-6" snowfall south/central and 2"-4" snowfall farther north, though exact timing of storm intensification is critical.  Of course, I'll be back on with all the hard and fast details Friday evening on NECN.

Temperatures warm into the 40s Thursday and Friday with a few towns touching 50 Friday, before an arctic front arrives to New England Saturday.  There is the potential for a weak and fast-moving storm center to ripple along the front, raising the potential for bursts of accumulating snow Saturday, and I'll be keeping an eye on that.  Otherwise, cold air and lots of wind arrives for the weekend.

Another storm will miss New England, save for some flurries or light snow predawn Thursday on the Massachusetts islands.  A late week warmup will ensue, preceding an arctic blast for the weekend.

A split flow continues - separation between cold, northern energy and warm, southern moisture.  If these two can't combine, big storms don't result.  There will be some phasing of the two streams Wednesday into Wednesday night, but that storm is likely to stay south of New England.  Another storm to the south of New England bears watching Saturday into Saturday night, but at this point, also looks like the brunt of the storm will remain south of the region.

A stretch of fair weather is expected in New England, save for mountain snow showers later Friday and then again Saturday night.  Across the world, however, the weather is quite different from New England and the United States - record cold is taking lives in Europe and beyond.

The clash of incoming warmth and stubborn cold results in Wednesday morning black ice and fog in Eastern New England, but, by afternoon, warmth wins out for most of Southern and Central New England.

Tuesday morning's snow is unfortunately timed at the morning commute for many, but marks the leading edge to mild air that should push many Southern New England communities into the 50s by Wednesday.

The daylight hours of both Saturday and Sunday will be pleasant and fair, though energetic upper-level disturbances will deliver scattered snow showers both Saturday and Sunday nights.
