Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide

About a week ago, I introduced you to the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide. This power toothbrush is actually fun to use and provides me a clean feeling like I've just been to the dentist and this isn't a feeling I'm used to with my old manual toothbrush. I've been using it for about two weeks and I'm really getting the hang of it. It took me the longest to get used to the 2 minute time for a complete brushing. For some reason, I needed an extra 30 seconds the first several times to get all my teeth. I'm not sure why, but I've changed my oral care habits from brushing once a day to twice a day. I think it's the technology involved with using this toothbrush. It intrigues me and I really like the clean feeling it provides.

The Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide includes the following great features:

Pressure indicator lights when brushing too hard. This is one of my favorite features because I have sensitive gums that bleed really easy if I brush too hard. This red flashing light makes it obvious you've pressed too hard with the brush.
Brush provides 40,000 pulsations and 8,800 oscillations per minute. This helps remove up to two times more plaque than a manual toothbrush. I am pretty sure this is why my teeth feel "dentist clean" when I'm done brushing!
Using the whitening setting and Pro White Brush Head, this power toothbrush offers outstanding whitening and polishing in 3 weeks via surface stain removal.
Brush offers 5 customized brushing modes: Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whitening, Massage, and Deep Clean. I've used the Daily Clean and Deep Clean modes. I really like the extra 15 seconds in each quadrant of my mouth after I've been drinking pop or eating candy. The extra time seems to really get all the nasty stuff off my teeth.
The brush head has indicator bristles that remind you to replace your brush head every 3 months, once they've faded halfway. In addition, the SmartGuide signals when you are 10 days away from needing a replacement.
A base station with brush head storage is provided for re-charging the toothbrush. You can get about 10 days (twice a day) out of one full charge.

I recorded a video of me using the toothbrush. You'll notice the toothbrush flash red near the brush head a few times. This is the pressure indicator. You should also be able to hear the brush beep/pause in between quadrants (every 30 seconds). Forgive me for my nervousness! This is the first video I've done for my blog and I am not a good speaker.

Bicycling

Back in April, I finally got to buy my road bicycle. First, I never thought I'd ride something with wheels this narrow, but I've found it's really not much different than any other bike I've ridden. It did take a bit of getting used to as far as steering and the hard seat and all. In may, I took it in for a tune-up and they were able to tighten up my rear brakes a little which has helped immensely!

I've been a little disappointed at my average speed still being around 12 MPH. That's the same as on my old "WalMart" bike. Most of my riding has been commuting to work and back, which actually is great for relieving the stress of the day. This also saves on fill-ups in my truck, which is GREAT! Saturday, I decided to go out for a ride and suggested my wife and son meet me at an A&W restaurant near us for lunch. I took off thinking it'd take about an hour and twenty minutes at my average speed. I surprised myself, riding just over 17 MPH average over a 15 mile ride. Needless to say, I beat them to the restaurant by about 20 minutes. I guess a little motivation (A&W) is a great thing to push yourself!

I'm really enjoying getting out and riding! I'm hoping I can keep getting out and riding throughout the summer. I really need to learn to get myself well hydrated before leaving and get some great energy filled snacks to take with me to keep me going! I doubt I'll work up to it this year, but I've always wanted to ride the Little Miami Trail in Southwestern Ohio. I think it's about a 70 mile trail, so I still have a bit of work to make that ride! My longest ride so far on this bike has been 18 miles, but I'm almost at the century mark. I think I have less than 10 miles to go over the century mark in miles on this bike!

I will admit to anyone that asks that my oral care is not the best. I'm using a cheap toothbrush from WalMart, I rarely floss, and I haven't seen a dentist for at least 2 years. About the only time my toothbrush gets replaced is when the bristles are all flattened and spread out. The only time I use floss is when I know something is stuck between my teeth because it's irritating me.

Right now, my teeth feel kind of gritty from everything I've eaten today and they're rather stained from drinking coffee. We try really hard to impress upon our son proper oral care, but it's tough with a 6 year old. We make him brush his teeth twice a day, morning and night. I don't think he does the greatest job of cleaning them well, but he tries pretty hard. Soon, we'll take him to see a dentist and we'll most likely schedule appointments for ourselves at the same time.

I was given the opportunity to evaluate the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide. The Oral-B ProfessionalCare 5000 is a new power toothbrush. I've used cheap power toothbrushes in the past and never felt they did much to clean my mouth more than a manual toothbrush. Being a technology person, the Oral-B ProfessionalCare 5000 really intrigues me. Just the fact that it connects wirelessly to the SmartGuide makes me want to use it. This toothbrush will help me to be sure to clean all of my teeth thoroughly. The toothbrush and SmartGuide will even notify me if I'm brushing too hard, which is a great thing since my gums bleed easily.

My family loves to shop at our local Sam's Club store because it's quite economical to purchase items we use often in larger sizes or amounts. Happy hump day everyone! I'm riding my new bicycle to work for the first time today. It's only a 4 mile ride, but there's some logistics I have to make work. First, I sweat a lot when I exercise, so I have to find a way to get my work clothes there without wrinkling them too badly. Second, I have to take my bike inside the building because I don't trust the clientele we have coming into work to leave it be if I locked it outside. Other than that, I'm really excited to get the exercise and save on gas costs.

Dreaming of a Keurig Brewer

Now that we are debt free and able to make a few purchases we wouldn't have made before, I'm seriously dreaming of a Keurig Platinum Brewer. Ok, I'll be honest. I've been wanting one for several years now and just haven't had the money to buy one. I sat and watched them brew way too many cups of coffee on QVC last night, thinking I should buy it at the price they were offering, but talked myself out of it.

Around Thanksgiving time last year, Green Mountain's Cafe Express offered me a Keurig Brewer and a platinum membership in their Cafe Express Savings Club. Now, it's April and I still haven't received a brewer from them. I've had contact with them a couple times and they just say they'll look into it.

Now, I'm seeing a lot of bloggers giving away Keurig Brewers on their blogs. I'm trying my hardest to win one, but I've tried in the past, so I don't have a lot of hope to actually win one. I wish one of the companies sponsoring the reviews and giveaways would contact me! That'd be so cool! In the meantime, I'll keep entering giveaways and see if I can purchase one later on this year if I don't win.

SpermCheck Fertility Review & Giveaway

My wife and I have been trying for several years to get pregnant again. Our son turned 6 at the beginning of March. We've had no luck getting pregnant a second time. Good morning everyone. I'm very tired this morning. My son had surgery yesterday to remove his tonsils and adenoids. They also put tubes in his ears. It was a long day yesterday and last night was long too, waking every three and a half hours to give him pain medication. It was one of those nights that every noise from his room wakes you just enough to make it not worth much as far as sleep/rest. I'd like to think I'm like Tim the Tool Man, but I'm probably not quite that bad.

Kahlua, Cream, and Coke because most people have not had it. Of course, I'm never at a pub where we're buying rounds. I'm pretty much a one drink person.

A video about Bibles being distributed in a local language for the first time in Africa.

10) They say that you learn something new every day. What was the last thing you have learned?

A 2"x12"x8' board is pretty heavy. I bought it to lay across my garden to keep from compacting the soil. It didn't seem heavy until I tried to hold it up laying it across the garden.

I think this means something about books and I'm not a reader.

I don't read, but if I did, it'd probably be an electronic format because I like everything to be easy to carry around. Books are just too thick and bulky to travel with.

Brother P-Touch Labels Wrap-Up

Well, I've been using and testing Brother P-Touch labels since August of last year. I started out with the P-Touch Extreme Test Kit. This included scrubbing the labels with brushes, scrubbing pads, bleach powder, nail polish remover, and more. None of these things damaged the labels except for minor scratching or peeling at the corners. The plexi-glass had more damage than the label from all this abuse.

Following the Extreme Test Kit, I received the PT-1290 labeler and went to work organizing my garage. My primary goal was to get my tools and fasteners into an organized area where even my wife could find them if she needed them. I've always hated when I go to the garage and can't find what I'm looking for. Even worse is when I go to get the weed killer container and I don't know if it is the one that's safe for the yard or the one that kills all vegetation. Using the labels, I labeled gas cans, shelves, tool chests, fastener drawers, and more. These labels have all held up to the test of my garage. Even with the saw dust and dirt build up, there's not a single label peeling away.

I also decided to test these labels out in some situations at work, but I don't have any pictures of that. We bought new computers and I'd tried several other kinds of labels to mark the computers with names/locations. All the other labels peeled right off within an hour of putting them on. These P-Touch labels have been there for weeks now without any sign of peeling away from the computers plastic face. I think I'll be purchasing a labeler just like this one for work.

I also tried out some of the decorative labels that can be made using the labeler. These are actually pretty cool, but I think I'll let my wife use the cutesy stuff when she organizes her craft stuff. There are still a lot of features that I haven't explored, but I'm sure I will with time!

I'm Debt Free

In October, 2006, I attend Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University at our church. This is a program that helps people find freedom from debt and plan for their financial futures! We calculated that we were spending $400 more than we were making some months at that point.

The first step was to build up a $1000 emergency fund. We did this fairly quickly and there were several times over the past 6 years that we had to use part of that and rebuild it to $1000. I believe we started with $56,000 in debt at that point (not including our mortgage). Much of this was credit card debt, student loans, and a truck payment. Dave Ramsey's plan is called Debt Snowballing. That means you start with the smallest debt first, pay it off, and then roll that payment amount into the next smallest debt. As you go, this payment amount grows, making much larger payments on the bigger debts.

In that past several months, we've been working on our final debt...my Sallie Mae student loans. I'm proud to say that I made the final payment this morning. We are officially debt free (not including our mortgage)! This is HUGE! I have to admit, though, that this would not have been possible without God's provision in our lives. My family's every need was provided for in these past five and a half years! Were there times when it was tough? Absolutely! But God provided! During these years, I was even able to go on two missions trips to Africa because God provided funds for this.

Dave's plan has further steps like building the emergency fund to 3-6 months income, investing, college planning for kids, etc. We will eventually get there, but with out vehicle being 10 and 11 years old, we want to start putting money aside for a future vehicle purchase. The biggest thing we're going to do now...Tithe 10% back to God. We've been tithing about 4-5%. We're in a position now to give back the full 10% God has required of us!

Good morning to you all! March is a great month. Barring any serious setback, I should have my student loan paid off by the end of March. That means we will be Debt Free by Dave Ramsey's standards. We'll still have the mortgage, but doesn't everyone?
