They, and many other shows and sites, are trying to figure out whether the newest Castlevania is good or not. For me, it's immaterial. I don't have any of the new consoles.</p> <p>I <em>did love </em>the game as a kid. As a not-kid, I played Symphony of the Night. And yes, I got to the upside down castle<span style="font-family: mceinline;">.</span></p> <p>What's weird is listening to co-host Ara talk about how it's essentially a by-the-numbers <em>God of War </em>knockoff. He posited that since there are now a bunch of games with very similar qualities, that constitutes a new genre.</p> <p>But I've never played any of the games they mention. No God of War(s). No Uncharted. No other-games-I-can't-remember. Somehow I missed an entire video game genre's emergence. Oh wait, I know why: family, career, all these goddamn words I can't shove back inside.</p> <p>I wonder if I'd like Castlevania if I hadn't <em>played</em> any of those other games it's allegedly aping. It's all fresh to me. Wake me from my nap when the next video game genre comes and goes.
